In missing person cases, the first 48 hours is the most important window for the beginning of the investigation. However, complications between state and local police can be an obstacle to bringing federal agencies onto the case. Former Secret Service Special Agent and Liason to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children Jeffrey James explains the function and purpose of NCMEC, how the federal government is activated when a missing persons case occurs, and the challenges he's faced throughout his career working on these types of crimes. In 1996, Jeffrey James was sworn in as a United States Secret Service Special Agent, beginning his 22-year-long career within the federal government. During his time in the Secret Service, he was promoted to Assistant Special Agent in Charge and also served as the Liason to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. Now, he works as the President of Capitol Security Consultants, as well as the Chief of Police at Robert Morris University. There are so many people pulling in the right direction to improve our health care system. And some of the actions announced today can help. But there's one thing in particular that I think is desperately needed: information.

On this episode of Cut to the Chase: podcast, one of the lead counsel in the 3M Combat Earplug litigation cases representating the veterans, Mike Burns, discusses where things stand in the largest mass tort ever with over 230,000 veterans trying to get fair compensation from 3M after wearing defective earplugs that caused widespread hearing loss and tinnitus on our soldiers.   3M tried to get bankruptcy protection after losing against 13 of 19 veterans, but the bankruptcy court rejected that petition.   Meanwhile 3M has taken an appeal on that denial and against the 13 victorious veterans.    So not one soldier has been compensated.   The Judge ended the year by issuing an Order establishing that 3M was the sole party responsible for any of these 230000 cases.   Listen to Mike explain what all this means for the 230000 cases pending in front of Judge Rogers from the Northern District of Florida and the appellate courts.

Safaricom today announced that it is part of a consortium bidding for the telecommunications licences in Ethiopia, a high risk, high reward move since it only targets the telecommunication market. The move could drive its earnings in the short and mid-term, extrapolating Safaricom's growth in other markets.  Athi River Mining Cement is calling it quits, following its debt-fueled expansion and miscalculations in Tanzania. Its downfall is likely going to hurt many retail investors, calling for understanding of what it means to be a shareholder, the liability that comes with it and the necessary safety nets for investors. Liaison Group listing is a test of the NSE's power to raise funds for companies, as Liason is looking to raise funds for Africa's expansion through the IPO. Investors await the company's prospectus.
