Eddie Yoon breaks down the latest data on the consumer, citing flat PCE and disposable income growth despite inflation headwinds. He believes the 2% inflation rate is "far behind us," and 3% will become the new normal, driven in part by surging energy costs and AI-driven demand. Yoon also notes the potential for a consumer backlash against big tech companies like Microsoft (MSFT), which are driving up energy costs while cutting high-paying jobs. He sees a generational shift in spending habits, with younger consumers favoring experiences and sustainable living over traditional categories like alcohol, which could spell trouble for companies like Boston Beer Company (SAM) and Brown Forman (BF/B).======== Schwab Network ========Empowering every investor and trader, every market day. Austin Lyons says the Mag 7 continue to dominate market leadership, though it's becoming more fragmented. As companies like Apple (AAPL) and Tesla (TSLA) play catch up, Austin poses the question to investors, "is there anywhere else that's better to put your money in the A.I. trade?" While he like Apple's tech ecosystem and Tesla's future prospects, he favors Microsoft (MSFT) currently as Azure cloud growth accelerates. On the chip trade, he talks about Intel (INTC) "getting back to their roots" and AMD Inc.'s (AMD) recent comeback as both companies vie for a piece of Nvidia's (NVDA) market share.

In today's Cloud Wars Minute, I discuss Satya Nadella's bold Q4 claim that Microsoft is the #1 cloud provider, leaving rivals to fight for second place.Highlights00:12 — Microsoft laid out a very clear, unmistakable story in Q4 that it is the biggest and right now certainly the most powerful, most influential cloud provider. CEO Satya Nadella used the opportunity of these unprecedented financial results to spread the word that, “We're number one, and all of the other hyperscalers — Google, Oracle, and AWS — can fight for the number two spot.”01:06 — Q4 cloud revenue was up 27% to 46.7 billion. Full year cloud revenue was $168 billion, up 23%. One that really blows me away, its RPO for Q4 was $368 billion up 37%, so that is remaining performance, obligation, contracted business not yet recognized as revenue. Then for Azure, for the full year, $75 billion and a 39% growth rate in Q4. So pretty powerful stuff.02:04 — Nadella said, "We're the leaders in breadth of AI products and AI infrastructure." He said, "In our overall tech stack, nobody can touch us, and that's how we're able to deliver at this scale." He said, "We have more data centers than anybody else does," cutting against some claims that have been made by Oracle and others. "We are outperforming everybody else."03:16 — I thought it was interesting that, without identifying those specific companies, he referred to our competitors and that we're doing more than them. Now, I think this was a smart move by Nadella, right? Because we're not talking about some technical features — these are the technological foundations that business leaders will be betting the future of their companies on.03:55 — So, the hyperscalers with the best overall capabilities are going to be the ones that those business leaders tend to go with. I think it's a smart move by Nadella here to say, in my view, here's where we stand. We're out ahead of the others on all this. Now, I'm sure Google Cloud, Oracle, and AWS will have their own points of view on this, and I would encourage all of them to speak up.04:20 — I'm not talking about name-calling, but a very clear and well-articulated, reasoned, customer-oriented set of here's where I stand versus competitors here. I was glad to see this from Microsoft. I hope everybody does it, and later this morning on Cloud Wars, I'll have a detailed article offering the verbatim comments that Nadella made about these different subjects. Visit Cloud Wars for more.

He talks about how the report shows the importance of A.I. and its role for Salesforce's (CRM) Agentforce platform. Informatica was acquired by Salesforce in May for $8 billion. Earnings season has been great so far, but “uneven,” Howard Chan notes, “Most of the growth is actually coming from large, technology-focused companies.” He likes “consumer-forward tech” companies like Netflix (NFLX) and Uber (UBER) and AI infrastructure companies like semiconductor maker Nvidia (NVDA) and cloud service providers such as Microsoft (MSFT), where “demand outstrips supply.” While some are worried about market concentration in only a few names, he argues that big tech are global companies with global demand. He's also bullish on smaller chipmakers.======== Schwab Network ========Empowering every investor and trader, every market day. Alexandra Ebert covers AI and global business, reflecting on Mag 7 earnings and the race between the U.S. and China. She compares Microsoft's (MSFT) AI investments, which she calls more vertically aligned, to Meta (META), which is more consumer and ad focused. She thinks MSFT is “more stable in its current business model.” However, she thinks many businesses are “overhyping” AI benefits and uses, and productivity gains are unclear. In this episode, we provide a recap on earnings so far in Q2, which, so far, have been good enough for the market to remain near all-time highs. We also delve a little deeper into some of the megacap earnings, especially as it relates to whether accounting rules are optically improving earnings while cash flow is shrinking as spending on capital expenditures, specifically AI chips, is draining corporate coffers. To wit, free cash flow versus capex for the four biggest spenders (GOOG, META, AMZN, and MSFT) is as follows (in billions): 2024 FCF - $233 Capex - $226 2025 FCF - $207 Capex - $351 2026 FCF - $240 Capex - $445 2027 FCF - $289 Capex - $512 In other words, these businesses, which once generated massive amounts of free cash flow for things like buybacks, are becoming much more capital intensive. However, since 2021, it has been only the 10 biggest stocks that have had earnings that have exceeded inflation; the other 490 have barely kept pace with overall price increases. We also talk about inflation, specifically the shift toward the greater use of estimates versus actual inflation data, as well as the smoke signals from the economic intelligentsia hinting at a shift away from the fed's long-standing 2% inflation target. In the spirit of government estimates, we also review the recent (abysmal) jobs data, and revisions, and connect that with the demise of certain professions, which ties into the massive AI spending driving corporate earnings and capital expenditures. We close with a look at the strong recent performance of speculative stocks, the historically large nature of the volume in that trading, and why that has historically boded poorly going forward. Of particular note is the recent record flow into the Ark Innovation ETF. Learn more about Formidable Asset Management, Will Brown, and Adam Eagleston by visiting www.formidableam.com.

Marley Kayden takes investors through the morning's biggest movers, which included Hims & Hers (HIMS) sliding more than 10% after its earnings. Its revenue miss led to the selling action despite the company expanding its footprint overseas. Meanwhile, Pfizer (PFE) rallied after it beat and raised EPS guidance for 2025. Marley explains how Microsoft (MSFT) and Meta Platforms (META) played a role in Bank of America's big price target raise on Oracle (ORCL).======== Schwab Network ========Empowering every investor and trader, every market day.Subscribe to the Market Minute newsletter - https://schwabnetwork.com/subscribeDownload the iOS app - https://apps.apple.com/us/app/schwab-network/id1460719185Download the Amazon Fire Tv App - https://www.amazon.com/TD-Ameritrade-Network/dp/B07KRD76C7Watch on Sling - https://watch.sling.com/1/asset/191928615bd8d47686f94682aefaa007/watchWatch on Vizio - https://www.vizio.com/en/watchfreeplus-exploreWatch on DistroTV - https://www.distro.tv/live/schwab-network/Follow us on X – https://twitter.com/schwabnetworkFollow us on Facebook – https://www.facebook.com/schwabnetworkFollow us on LinkedIn - https://www.linkedin.com/company/schwab-network/About Schwab Network - https://schwabnetwork.com/about
F1 Racing and the markets. Earnings, economics and the Fed. The casino - zero date options. Thomas Thornton, Hedge Fund Telemetry is this week's guest. NEW! DOWNLOAD THE AI GENERATED SHOW NOTES (Guest Segment) Stay Updated Thomas Thornton is a former portfolio manager, senior trader, and technical analyst with Level Global Investors and Galileo Capital. Tom has written a daily market note for a select group of hedge fund managers for years and now has offered it for all investors with Hedge Fund Telemetry. His long term focus on sentiment indicators borders on the obsessive. Our growing team at Hedge Fund Telemetry is comprised of current and former buy and sell side individuals. Hedge Fund Telemetry was first conceived with inspiration from Tom's lifelong passion following Formula 1 racing. In the early 90's, Formula 1 teams started to equip cars with sensors on every imaginable component and data was relayed wirelessly through telemetry to the pits to analyze and then instructions from the pits were relayed back to the driver so he could make changes to find the optimal balance for the car. It has always been the same way for Tom, as a senior trader at his hedge fund, he would get in early, collect data from many sources, analyze that data, and then communicate information out to his firm so his team could properly balance the firm's portfolio. It's now our goal to relay that same type of information so that one can also gain that edge. Daniel Rubino dives into this week's big tech earnings and says Microsoft (MSFT) displayed a strong position for future A.I. growth. He says the breakout Azure numbers show "confidence" from the company's leadership as it attempts to gain market share against Amazon's AWS. For Apple (AAPL), he says a "foldable" phone might be in the works as he points to higher adoption in competing Samsung devices. One reason he thinks Apple could hesitate is potentially eating into iPad sales. Daniel discusses tariffs impact for big tech companies and doesn't forecast a $2000 iPhone this fall.======== Schwab Network ========Empowering every investor and trader, every market day.Subscribe to the Market Minute newsletter - https://schwabnetwork.com/subscribeDownload the iOS app - https://apps.apple.com/us/app/schwab-network/id1460719185Download the Amazon Fire Tv App - https://www.amazon.com/TD-Ameritrade-Network/dp/B07KRD76C7Watch on Sling - https://watch.sling.com/1/asset/191928615bd8d47686f94682aefaa007/watchWatch on Vizio - https://www.vizio.com/en/watchfreeplus-exploreWatch on DistroTV - https://www.distro.tv/live/schwab-network/Follow us on X – https://twitter.com/schwabnetworkFollow us on Facebook – https://www.facebook.com/schwabnetworkFollow us on LinkedIn - https://www.linkedin.com/company/schwab-network/About Schwab Network - https://schwabnetwork.com/about

S&P Futures are showing strong gains this morning after outstanding earnings from Microsoft (MSFT) and Meta (META), both of which delivered results that surpassed expectations. Outside of tech, a majority of companies have delivered mixed or disappointing results. Fed Chairman Jerome Powell came across as hawkish in his press conference yesterday and indicated that the Fed is looking past the tariff situation by not raising rates. President Trump announced a trade deal with S. Korea. An agreement with Mexico remains fluid while an agreement with Canada appears unlikely. A federal appeal court will begin hearing oral arguments today on President Trumps claim that economic emergencies allow him the right to impose tariffs. The key economic data point for today will be the PCE report due out in the pre-market. On the earnings front, MSFT, META, WDC, EBAY & CVNA are higher after announcements. RACE, ARM, LRCX, WCOM, BUD, F, & HOOD are lower. After the bell today are earnings reports from AAPL, AMZN, KLAC, COIN, NET, ROKU, and RDDT.
Amazon's (AMZN) earnings came in mixed, with cloud growth underwhelming and capacity issues weighing on the stock. Meanwhile, advertising revenue growth of over 20% was a bright spot, aligning with strong digital ad numbers from Meta (META) and Alphabet (GOOGL). Ali Mogharabi discusses this, as well as how Apple (AAPL) crushed iPhone sales expectations. Microsoft (MSFT) also impressed with 39% cloud growth, thanks to Azure.======== Schwab Network ========Empowering every investor and trader, every market day.Subscribe to the Market Minute newsletter - https://schwabnetwork.com/subscribeDownload the iOS app - https://apps.apple.com/us/app/schwab-network/id1460719185Download the Amazon Fire Tv App - https://www.amazon.com/TD-Ameritrade-Network/dp/B07KRD76C7Watch on Sling - https://watch.sling.com/1/asset/191928615bd8d47686f94682aefaa007/watchWatch on Vizio - https://www.vizio.com/en/watchfreeplus-exploreWatch on DistroTV - https://www.distro.tv/live/schwab-network/Follow us on X – https://twitter.com/schwabnetworkFollow us on Facebook – https://www.facebook.com/schwabnetworkFollow us on LinkedIn - https://www.linkedin.com/company/schwab-network/About Schwab Network - https://schwabnetwork.com/about

Microsoft's surge has the company on track to surpass a $4 trillion market cap valuation. Sam adds that ongoing trade deals taking shape, plus better-than-expected economic data and Jerome Powell's commentary after the FOMC decision to keep rates unchanged have investors weighing a lot this week.======== Schwab Network ========Empowering every investor and trader, every market day.Subscribe to the Market Minute newsletter - https://schwabnetwork.com/subscribeDownload the iOS app - https://apps.apple.com/us/app/schwab-...Download the Amazon Fire Tv App - https://www.amazon.com/TD-Ameritrade-...Watch on Sling - https://watch.sling.com/1/asset/19192...Watch on Vizio - https://www.vizio.com/en/watchfreeplu...Watch on DistroTV - https://www.distro.tv/live/schwab-net...Follow us on X – / schwabnetwork Follow us on Facebook – / schwabnetwork Follow us on LinkedIn - / schwab-network About Schwab Network - https://schwabnetwork.com/about

S&P Futures are displaying gains this morning with earnings and economic data being the key themes for today. On the economic front, the first reading of U.S. Q2 GDP will be released this morning and is expected to display growth. In the afternoon, the Fed will release a monetary policy statement. Fed Chairman Powell will likely display a dovish tone in his press conference. The U.S. and China concluded their recent two-day trade talks in Stockholm without reaching a definitive agreement to extend the tariff truce currently set to expire on August 12, 2025. Both sides described the meetings as "constructive,". The responsibility now lies with President Trump to decide whether to approve an extension of the tariff pause. PANW is said to be close to acquiring CYBR in a $20B deal. Figma (FIG) IPO is said to be 40x oversubscribed. On the earnings front, QRVO, HUM, STNG, SBUXVRT & GEHC are higher after announcements. MSFT, META, QCOM, ARM, LRCX & HOOD are all releasing earnings after the bell today.
Commentary from Fed chair Jerome Powell sent most stocks into the red after the FOMC voted 9-2 to keep interest rates unchanged in its July meeting. If the session wasn't busy enough, Microsoft (MSFT) and Meta Platforms (META) reported earnings after hours. Both stocks surged with A.I. being credited for soaring revenue and guidance. Outside the Mag 7, Qualcomm (QCOM) posted a beat but traded lower on the report. Marley Kayden carries investors through a very busy Wednesday on Wall Street.======== Schwab Network ========Empowering every investor and trader, every market day. The Mag 7 continued to show their magnificence in earnings. Microsoft's (MSFT) massive Azure cloud revenue beat and Meta Platforms' (META) dominance in ads and A.I. opened the door to rallies for both companies after hours. Qualcomm (QCOM), however, couldn't do the same despite its beat. Marley Kayden, Alex Coffey, and Jeff Pierce break down the numbers driving trading action.======== Schwab Network ========Empowering every investor and trader, every market day. Today's jam-packed Wednesday started with a very strong GDP print. Kevin Hincks largely attributes the bounce back to imports. As for the big stories today, Kevin talks about his expectations for the FOMC interest rate decision. He also mentions Microsoft (MSFT) and Meta Platforms (META) earnings after the bell, pointing to capex as the number all investors will watch.======== Schwab Network ========Empowering every investor and trader, every market day. There's a lot of metrics to watch between Meta Platforms (META) and Microsoft (MSFT) in their earnings Wednesday. Dan Morgan will focus on data centers, CapEx, and Llama for Meta, believing future success lies in how the company utilizes its A.I. spend. As for Microsoft, Dan says it's all about Azure cloud and proving A.I. monetization will accelerate growth. Tom White offers example options trades for both Mag 7 giants ahead of their reports after the closing bell.======== Schwab Network ========Empowering every investor and trader, every market day.Options involve risks and are not suitable for all investors. Microsoft (MSFT) and Meta Platforms (META) both report earnings on Wednesday, and Angelo Zino offers in-depth coverage on both Mag 7 companies. For Microsoft, he says its report will be "all about Azure," as he expects the company to become one of the group's new leaders in a reversal from 2024's lagging performance. Angelo will watch capex spending on Meta Platforms (META) closely after its "aggressive" A.I. spending push. He later talks about why he's "afraid" of Apple's (AAPL) earnings this quarter. Tom White turns to example options trades for Microsoft and Meta.======== Schwab Network ========Empowering every investor and trader, every market day.Options involve risks and are not suitable for all investors.
