Disney's Polynesian Village Resort opened at Walt Disney World on October 1, 1971, making it only one of two opening day hotels on property (the other is Disney's Contemporary Resort; Fort Wilderness Campground opened at a month later). Inspired by the South Pacific, Disney's Polynesian Village Resort feels like its own tropical oasis on Seven Seas Lagoon (a short monorail or boat ride away from Magic Kingdom). With world-class restaurants and lounges ('Ohana, Kona Cafe, Trader Sam's and more), iconic pools, breathtaking views, a wide range of unique room options (including honeymoon suites and Bora Bora Bungalows), and a rich history at Walt Disney World, Polynesian is a fan-favorite resort.   In this episode, we discuss everything you need to know about staying at this deluxe-level resort, share reasons why you might want to stay here, and offer suggestions about how to make the most of your stay. The Five Best Places for Fashion Outfit Photos at Walt Disney World

If you want to take great photos of your Disney outfits at Walt Disney World, there are five great spots that will consistently deliver exceptional photos for your social media feed or personal photo album. Want to be Disney fashion influencer? Here's how to get started with great Disney style photos. The Five Best Photo Spots at Walt Disney World to Show Off an Outfit What to Consider to Get the Best Photos of Your Disney Outfits at Disney WorldThe best time for photos under natural light is first thing in the morning or later in the afternoon (which generally will provide softer golden lighting. Overcast days and shaded areas are also great for providing picture perfect diffused and muted light. So if you are serious about getting a great photo for your social feed or to become a fashion/style influencer, get to your photo spot first thing in the morning. This will provide the best lighting and the lowest crowds. By going early, the lower crowds mean that, at worst, you can use AI great to remove one or two errant people in the photo. But beyond one or two people, it can get trickier. Unless you are going for the blurred crowd effect (which is something to try if you find yourself in that situation). Focal length, aperture and the distance to your subject can all affect how the final photo turns out. Plus, for scenic views you need to consider whether the background will be busy or uniform, and whether it will be blurred or more in focus. All of this makes a difference in your final photo. You can adjust much of this in post production using apps, but the more that you consider up front, the less work you will have to do later. Five of the Best Outdoor Scenic Photo Locations for Disney Style 1. Cinderella Castle As a classic icon, Cinderella Castle has several vantage points that are perfect for unique and stylized fashion shots. This does not include the standard head-on shot from Main Street (where the PhotoPass photographers are positioned). Look for a unique angle on either side of the castle, with some good spots towards the back.  2. Grand Floridian Resort Disney's Grand Floridian Resort offers a ton of first rate outdoor photo spots. From sprawling green lawns, to great florals and tropical gardens, to beach photos and backgrounds of Seven Seas Lagoon, you can always find a great photo spot here. Of course, the white and red color palette of the majestic buildings are also picture perfect. 3. Disney Boardwalk The Walt Disney World Boardwalk has a number of options for unique and interesting fashion and style photos. From benches on the wooden boardwalk, to vistas of the Crescent Lake and the Yacht and Beach Club hotels in the distance, you will have the potential to get a ton of great shots here. If you are looking for that magical late afternoon golden hour sunlight, the Boardwalk area is perfect for that photo-friendly natural lighting. 4. EPCOT: Morocco Pavilion, France Pavilion, By the fence around to World Showcase LagoonWhile EPCOT has no shortage of first-rate photo opp locations for fashion and style photos, there are two or three that stand out as top picks to explore. At the very back of the Morocco Pavilion, you will find a wonderful location with great lighting, interesting backdrops and few crowds. Nearby in the France Pavilion is another great area where you can capture some fashion and style photos featuring the charm of old Europe. For the France area, you will need to go early in the day for the optimal nature light and the lowest crowds. Also in EPCOT, the blue water of World Showcase Lagoon can make a nice blurred background. Finding a location along the black iron rails next to the water can make for some excellent photos, assuming you time it right with the sun low in the sky or on an overcast day.  5. Animal Kingdom: Harambe Marketplace area, Animal Kingdom (Fichwa Fellow Wall, with Mickey Mouse, You are Most Beautiful wall) Over at Disney's Animal Kingdom Park, the Harambe Marketplace are is filled with colorful backdrops and unique textures that can make for some excellent photo opps. The great thing about this area is that unlike some of the other popular Disney photo wall locations (which don't have enough room to create distance between the camera, subject and backdrop), the Harambe area provides the perfect opportunity to set up for some great fashion photos. Planning Your Disney Fashion Photos in Advance is Worth the Effort Putting some thought into the photos before you take them will make a difference in the end result. If you are aiming to get some like-worthy fashion photos for your Instagram or social feed, then the extra effort and thought will pay off.Thank You for Listening to the Disney Travel Style PodcastThank you very much for listening to this episode, we that you enjoyed it. Episode 331: Jim MacPhee talks about navigating life, pushing a wet noodle, and emotional & relational intelligence

AttractionPros Podcast

Jim MacPhee is a retired Disney legend and renowned author of the book Engage, Inspire, Lead. Starting in the watercraft department on the Seven Seas Lagoon, Jim started with an hourly position and grew with the company, and through mentorship and personal growth, became one of the greatest leaders in Disney history. Jim spent 43 years with the Walt Disney Company, serving the company on both coasts as a Vice President of several parks. Later in his career, Jim led the Next Generation Experience movement, leading to the birth of MyMagic+ and other technology that reshaped the attractions industry. In this interview, Jim talks about navigating life, pushing a wet noodle, and emotional and relational intelligence.   Navigating Life "Define your destination and go. And be nimble and agile along the way." Jim took many lessons from his first position with Disney and used them throughout his entire career. Reflecting on his experiences in the watercraft department, Jim emphasizes the parallels between navigating watercraft and effective leadership, such as finding the fastest path of travel and working together to create forward momentum.  The most profound lesson Jim learned from his time in watercraft was the skill of navigating life itself. With its various ties to leadership and great lessons in responsibility, Jim's first position provided a strong foundation for the rest of his career. Watercraft provided a sense of community and allowed Jim to bond with guests and develop a real understanding of the scope and size of the new Disney property.   Pushing A Wet Noodle "If you don't have great relationships, you've got a tough battle ahead." Jim compares “horizontal work” to pushing a wet noodle, stating that you can't get anywhere unless everybody is on the same page. The team dynamic and leadership system is critical to the success of a project, and it's one of the biggest takeaways Jim found in his time with the Next Generation Experience team.  One of the key elements of a successful project is top box sponsorship and great relationships. Jim compares poor leadership to the Liberty Bell, where a little crack in the top can lead to a massive fissure and disconnect in the rest of the team. Jim knows that with strong relationships and clear leadership, those fissures are avoidable.   Emotional and Relational Intelligence "We had to lead with clarity, unity, and agility." Jim shares that great leaders are built on their emotional and relational intelligence. Being open and vulnerable to feedback contributes not only to the improvement of one's self, but also to the improvement of the team. Jim also shares that leadership is everywhere, and that leadership can't exist without the relationships that we build. Jim shares that much of his success came from the fact that he would get to know people on a granular level, and not just when he needed them to put out fires. By investing in your team and providing an engaging and feedback-based environment, leaders won't have to worry when they ring the fire bell. Jim boldly shares that good leaders engage and inspire, whereas bad leaders read off the pages and direct, and shares that the four cornerstones to great leadership are relationships, influence, knowledge, and credibility.   You can find Jim's book Engage, Inspire, Lead on Amazon or at bookstores nationwide. WDW Radio # 729 - Lost Resorts of the Magic Kingdom: The Asian, Persian, and Venetian - From the WDW Radio Archives Since on our last episode of the show, we imagined Walt Disney World resort concepts that could be and we'd like to see, this week, we go back in time not just on the show to 2008 and Show # 91, but way back to a time before Walt Disney World had even opened. Our hosts are none other than off-duty Jungle Cruise Skippers, serving up tropical drinks and their signature blend of jokes! We come Here this evening in search of both respite AND revelry. One without the other would make for a far less memorable experience, and being Here With the Magic is, after all, all about finding moments of joy in sometimes undiscovered places. We begin on the terrace where the gentle strum of a ukulele and the distant sound of ferryboats crossing Seven Seas Lagoon are all that disrupt our oasis.  But inside the dimly lit, mysterious Grog Grotto, a cacophony of sounds meet our ears, each as mysterious and amusing as the next. It would not be out of the ordinary to see a zombie dragging itself by its...are those limbs? Or perhaps a diver in an inner tube, newly escaped from the mighty Nautilus. You never know; we might even be enlisted to help, ummm, dispatch hippopotamuses from trees or appease the tiki gods with sacrifices of cinnamony flames.  Anything goes in this ballyhoo of fun and whimsy, and we're Here for it all. From the idyllic sunset views along the sprawling Tiki Terrace to the eruption of lights and sounds within, Trader Sam has certainly offered the best of both sides of the proverbial coin; the buried treasure we are constantly pursuing. Magic, in moments of chaos and moments of calm, in spaces bursting with life or idle with serenity. We find it all Here, in the heart of an island paradise.  I hope you're ready for an unforgettable adventure! So, welcome aboard…ashore…or wherever you are. Miranda sent us some new ephemera which is a 'Vacation Kingdom' brochure from 1984. Take a look at these! Our next write-in was Daniel, who discusses the talking elevator at The Contemporary Resort. He sent us a photo of the elevator and Daniel also has one at his office building. Jared wrote us a touching story about his father and attending RetroMagic. We love hearing those stories and Jared has some great memories to remember. We heard from Gary regarding Tomorrowland and an area just past DreamFlight. We have the picture here and think you should take a look. Joe Barlow, our turnstile inspector, wrote in about the radio loops asking where they transmitted from. The group explains all of this and how everything worked years ago. BONUS: We had a tweet about the AAA Comfort Lounge! Interesting area we don't know much about.. Audio Rewind Our audio rewind this month is from Voyage of the Little Mermaid at Hollywood Studios - Thank you for all the guesses and emails! We have a winner! Congratulations Jason! All entries are due 11/17/2020 and a random winner will be selected. Main Topic This month...what can we say. Hulk Hogan is in the building. Well not yet, but hopefully soon. Instead, we are taking you to Paradise - Thunder in Paradise! Our crew takes a deep dive into this show that was almost entirely filmed on the property at Walt Disney World. The idea behind this show was a takeoff on Baywatch and various other 90s action stylized tv shows. We love watching these episodes though and trying to analyze where they filmed the show. We get into the reason behind the show, production, storylines and so much more. Each member of the group has seen this show at various stages and years, so we all have a little bit to add. As we progress into this main topic, we get into the various episodes and discuss locations.  Some are absurd and others are cleverly done. The production team really had free rein to go wherever they needed including the Magic Kingdom, all over the Seven Seas Lagoon, The Grand Floridian and so much more. The one thing we are all curious about though, who was vacationing at WDW during the filming? We would love to see some behind the scenes footage of Thunder driving around the Rivers of America... Enjoy this super random but super topical episode all about one of the more major film/tv productions that occurred at Walt Disney World. 2020: The Year of Film To make sure you are the first to know when items are released, subscribe to us on YouTube. The next evolution in that plan is appointing the company's first ever “head creator liaison” to help keep the peace. http://www.attractionchecklist.com - It's time to experience and review one of the oldest shows currently running at Walt Disney World, the Electrical Water Pageant! Recorded on May 26, 2017. Bonus content for this episode is available to the Saturday Morning Media Patreon Patrons.  Support the show and get fun Bonus content over at http://www.patreon.com/saturdaymorningmedia Intro Bumper by Paul of Window to the Magic - http://www.windowtothemagic.com INTRO TRANSCRIPT   We've got something a little different this episode as we take a look at a classic Walt Disney World attraction that is not inside one of the four parks but on the waters of Bay Lake and the Seven Seas Lagoon!  It is the Electrical Water Pageant!  It’s not listed in any guide maps, but it is described on the Walt Disney World website in the following manner: Great sea creatures and twinkling flags cross the lagoon to electronic tunes in this playful nighttime water parade. Before we experience this nighttime classic, here are five fast facts about Walt Disney World’s Electrical Water Pageant. 1. The 15 Minute Long Electrical Water Pageant debuted on Monday, October 25, 1971 making it one of the few original opening year shows that is still running at Walt Disney World. 2. The Electrical Water Pageant consists of 14 floats which contain over 50,000 light bulbs to light up the parade’s turtles, whales, octopus and sea serpent!  It is said that crews replace anywhere from 100 to 1500 bulbs a week to keep the floats in tip top shape. 3. Guests today can see the same floats in the same order dating back to 1977 4. The Electrical Water Pageant runs up to six times a night at various locations on the Seven Seas Lagoon and Bay Lake.  Guests can watch from locations including the Polyneasian resort, Fort Wilderness Campground and Disney’s contemporary hotel. 5. The electrical Water Pageant was the inspiration behind the Main Street Electrical Parade!  The music piece Baroque Hoedown which is commonly associated with the Main Street Electrical Parade was originally featured in the Electrical Water Pageant! Now it’s time to light up the night with the the Electrical Water Pageant.  If you have headphones, put them on now as this is a binaural recording.  And stay tuned after the audio to hear my thoughts on this attraction as you’ll be hearing my first time experiencing Walt Disney World’s Electrical Water Pageant. This time we’ve got something every special for you, the return of the Main Street Electrical Parade to Disneyland park!  This audio was recorded on January 19, 2017 as the parade made it’s return to it’s birthplace at a special premiere event.  The parade is currently describe in the guide by saying Catch this classic nighttime parade filled with fanciful floats and toe-tappin’ tunes for a limited time―it fades away June 18, 2017!  As this is a parade, it is open to all ages and there is no height requirement, though if you want to see the parade up front you’ll want to snag a viewing spot along the parade route early. Before we experience this spectacular festival pagent of nighttime magic and imagination. 1. The Main Street Electrical Parade debuted at Disneyland on June 17, 1972 and it ran at the park until November 25, 1996. 2.  The parade was created to be a West Coast version of the Electrical Water Pageant that has run at Walt Disney World in Florida since October 26, 1971.  The Water Pagent features barges with light up screens depicting a sea serpent, jumping dolphins, a turtle and more.  Instead of traveling down Main Street, these floats travel on barges on the Seven Seas Lagoon. 3.  According to then director of show development  Ronald Miziker, all 500,000 light bulbs in the original parade needed to be hand-tinted which required dipping each on in the appropriate colored paint. 4. The Main Street Electrical parade is known for its iconic music.  The underlying theme is called Baroque Hoedown and was originally created by early synthesizer pioneers Jean-Jaques Perrey and Gershon Kingsley. 5.  The Main Street Electrical parade was the firs tin Disney Park history to use an automated parade show control program that allowed the parade route to have different radio activated zones that allowed for float specific music and sound to be triggered as the floats passed by.  This si a technique still used in Disney parks today. Now it’s time to sit back and enjoy the return of the Main Street Electrical parade as it returns to Disneyland for the first time in over 20 years.  Watching the parade with me is the man who inspired this very podcast you’re listening to, Window To the Magic’s Paul Barrie and after the parade we will discuss out thoughts on this returning attraction.  Once again, this is a binaural recording so if you have headphones put them in as we enjoy the Main Street Electrical Parade! Welcome to Episode #15 of the DizFanatic "Ears On Ears" podcast! This is our "Lovey Dovey" episode. Thinking of popping the big question in Disney? Well some special friends have joined us to discuss getting engaged in Walt Disney World. We share their experiences and some advice on this magical subject. Of course we also talk a bit about some recent exciting Disney news. As promised, our guests sent in a brief overview of their stories. Of course it's more fun to hear all of the details, but here are some quick notations:   Kristin & Cory: My fiance Cory is everything in a man that I always hoped I would have – he's smart, he's funny, he's always there for me, he's just amazing.  We've been together for four years now – and we're a great team.  On our vacation to Disney World in July 2010, Cory proposed to me on the beach of the Polynesian Resort, right before the fireworks.  He was so nervous!  He got down on one knee, and told me that he wanted to spend the rest of his life with me.  It had to be the most magical night of my life.  Standing there, watching the fireworks surround the Magic Kingdom, with a brand new ring on my finger and a future to look forward to, was like a dream.  It's like we were in another world and the fireworks were just for us!   When Cory proposed I was so surprised, and so so happy!  Disney is such a special place for us.  My parents brought my sister and I to Disney every year as kids, and we have continued to go every year as adults.  It has always been a special place to me and my family, even more so since my father passed away unexpectedly 2 years ago.  It was his favorite place in the world and we feel like a piece of him is there on the Seven Seas Lagoon by the Magic Kingdom.  This made the proposal location that much more meaningful.  Cory wanted to propose in Disney because it was a special place to us, but knew that that particular location meant even more to me.  It's as if my dad was there with us, giving us his approval (and a pat on the back to Cory for choosing to propose in Disney) We are now planning our wedding in Disney World for November 2011.  It is so very exciting and we just can't wait.   Thanks to Mike and Anna for having us on their amazing Disney podcast!  We had a great time!  See ya real soon! =) Kristen & Dave: Dave, his family, and I were in Disney World December 29-January 2. We went to Yachtsman Steakhouse for a New Years Eve/birthday dinner (his dad's birthday was December 31st and my 21st birthday was January 1). After dinner, we went to the Magic Kingdom for the fireworks. After the fireworks, we walked up closer to Cinderella's Castle. I had wanted to get our picture taken the entire time we were in Disney in front of Cinderella's Castle. Dave kept putting it off... until that night. He took me to a place on the side of the castle where there was a Photopass photographer. We were standing there around 12:10am. I was getting so frustrated because Dave wouldn't look towards the camera to have our picture taken. He kept looking at me and trying to get me to face him. Finally, I turned towards him. Out of nowhere, he grabbed my hand and dropped to one knee. I was completely speechless and started crying. The Magic Kingdom was loud that night with a DJ playing in the background. I don't remember the music or the people around. I just remember looking down at him on one knee. It felt as if it was just Dave and I. Everything around me completely disappeared. It was the most magical moment of my life. I'm so happy I found my prince charming. And, dreams really do come true. And, the link to the video :) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cUd0EO0xaAY   And finally, Adam & Denise who were unable to be with us: We got engaged in January 2008. We were both in college working part time retail jobs, so we weren't making very much money. We had to drive down, because there was no way we could afford a flight, a car, park tickets, meals, gas, and the rest. So we decided to drive straight through overnight because we just wanted to get down there ASAP. We were absolutely exhausted the next day, and spent most of it sleeping. We stayed with my aunt and uncle who live about 45 minutes from the parks. We went to the Magic Kingdom a few days later, and we went with my aunt and uncle who knew what was about to happen. Before we got to the Magic Kingdom, we stopped for a big breakfast. It was a nice way to start the day, but I was already jittery and stopping to eat just made me more anxious! When we got to the park, we spent some time walking down Main Street and even got our picture with Daisy Duck. Denise said later that she thought I was going to pop the question that day, but I kind of threw her off by stopping to take pictures and such on the way to the castle. Also, she said she was looking for a ring box but couldn't find one so that confused her, too. The truth was that I was carrying the ring around in my pants pocket, which made me extremely nervous. I was checking my pocket about every 30 seconds to make sure it was still there! When we got to the Castle, there was already a small crowd of people taking pictures, so we had to wait for a little bit to get our chance in front of the Castle. It finally came down to Denise and I and another family. The gentleman from the other family asked us if we wanted to go next, and I'm usually always courteous in this situation and allow the other person to go first, but in this case I said "Yes, thank you." So we gave our camera to my aunt who said she would take the picture, and took our place in front of the castle. When we were up there, I dropped to one knee and asked her to be my princess. She said yes, of course. When it was over, we walked back to my aunt and uncle and the gentleman from the other family told us he was really glad he let us go first! There were also more people there that came as the whole thing happened, and one lady was even crying! It was a pretty awesome thing, and it's a memory we'll share forever. What was the first thing we did after getting engaged? We hopped on the newly refurbed Haunted Mansion! Nothing starts off a life of togetherness like the Haunted Mansion! We spent most of the rest of the day enjoying the Magic Kingdom. At dinnertime, my aunt and uncle treated us to a meal at the Kona Cafe in the Polynesian. It was a wonderful meal, and it's made that restaurant one of my personal favorites ever since. While we were eating, it rained pretty hard outside. That was perfect, because we missed all the weather and by the time dinner was over a lot of people had actually cleared out of the park. After dinner, we decided to take the monorail over to Epcot (we had a Park Hopper option on our tickets). Denise had never been to Epcot, and I wanted to take some time and show her some of the countries. We had a really romantic stroll around World Showcase and had a blast walking through some of the shops. After that, we went back over to the Magic Kingdom for SpectroMagic and Wishes. It was a wonderful day full of memories and magic, and it was special that we got to spend some of it with family also. If I have one piece of advice to give for someone planning on doing this, I'd have to say that you need to pick something special. The Castle may not be the perfect spot to do this, even though it might be tempting to do it there. WDW is full of romantic and fun things, so you have to pick the one thing that you and your special someone relate to. I can't really recommend one particular spot because there are so many, but I'm sure there has to be one that fits just right. Do some research and see what WDW has to offer. I'm sure you'll find the right place! This episode of the DizFanatic Podcast is sponsored by WDWTravels.com which is a full service travel company specializing in Disney vacations.
