In this episode of iOS Today, Mikah Sargent and Rosemary Orchard discuss their experiences with Apple's newly released M4 iPad Pros and accessories. They cover the new features and improvements, including the OLED display, updated design, Magic Keyboard with function keys, and the new Apple Pencil Pro. Rosemary also addresses a listener's question about creating a shortcut to quickly access downtime settings on a Mac. M4 iPad Pros: • The new iPad Pros have an OLED display, offering improved contrast and color reproduction • Storage options include 256GB, 512GB, 1TB, and 2TB, with higher-tier models having more RAM and an extra performance core. • The Magic Keyboard has been updated with a function row, haptic trackpad, and all-new hardware design. • The Apple Pencil Pro introduces haptic feedback, a programmable squeeze gesture, and a "barrel roll" feature for adjusting brush/tool shape based on pencil orientation • Apps like Freeform and GoodNotes are being updated to support the new Apple Pencil Pro capabilities • Availability varies by model, and waiting for refurbished units or discounts may be beneficial Shortcuts Corner: • A listener asks for a way to quickly access downtime settings on their children's Macs • Rosemary creates a shortcut using the Mac's System Preferences URL scheme to open the downtime settings directly • She recommends adding the shortcut to the Mac's menu bar for easy access • While it's not possible to toggle downtime automatically with a shortcut due to security concerns, this method still streamlines the process of adjusting the settings Hosts: Mikah Sargent and Rosemary Orchard Want access to the video version and exclusive features? Benjamin and Chance react to all the announcements out of the spring ‘Let Loose' event, including the radically thin new iPad Pro, the new 11-inch and 13-inch iPad Air lineup, what to expect from the M4 chip, and how the event compared to their expectations going in overall. And in Happy Hour Plus, Benjamin and Chance reflect on how they feel the video event format is performing for Apple, and whether it makes sense for the company to return to the live keynote style, sometimes. On this week's episode of The MacRumors Show, we discuss the possibility of the next-generation iPad Pro featuring the M4 chip and what else to expect at Apple's "Let loose event." While Apple's upcoming iPad Pro models have been expected to feature the M3 chip for over a year, recent reports have unexpectedly suggested that the new devices will instead contain the as-yet-unannounced M4 chip and that a key new feature of the processor will be an upgraded Neural Engine optimized for AI tasks. Introducing the M4 chip in an iPad and only six months after the previous chip generation would be unprecedented moves, but there is evidence to suggest that it is a plausible possibility. Apple's "Let loose" event is expected to focus on the unveiling of redesigned iPad Pro models with OLED displays, two new iPad Air models, a high-end Magic Keyboard accessory, and a new Apple Pencil. We also talk through the three other announcements that Apple could have in store for the event. The special event will take place on Tuesday, May 7 at 7 a.m. Pacific Time (10 a.m. Eastern Time), with a live stream to be available on Apple.com and on YouTube as usual.

This week's stories 2022 iPad Pro gets speed boost from M2 chip but no new ports Apple unveiled new iPad Pro models with the M2 processor, which brings a 15% speed boost to the tablets. But Tuesday's announcement was a disappointment for those hoping for wireless charging or more ports. New entry-level iPad 10 looks more Pro than ever Apple gave the 2022 version of the basic iPad a larger screen, USB-C, a faster processor and other enhancements. And the Home button is gone. But along with the new features comes a huge 36% price increase. Enter to win a rugged Apple Watch accessory bundle [Cult of Mac giveaway] If you want a tactical-looking Apple Watch band that doesn't skimp on comfort, the Mifa Nylon Sports Leather Band is for you. In this week's giveaway, you can win one — along with an Elkson Quattro Bumper Case that will protect your Apple Watch from whatever mayhem you might get into. New $249 Magic Keyboard Folio goes with iPad 10 While the iPad 10 costs much more than previous versions, starting at $449 instead of $329, if you want the detachable keyboard and stand Apple now makes for it, you have to add another $249. Absurd Apple Pencil dongle sends fans into spiral of grief The decision to make the all-new iPad compatible with the original Apple Pencil looks likely to go down as one of Apple's most ridiculous design decisions. Logitech Crayon offers kid-friendly USB-C active stylus for iPad 10 The latest version of the Logitech Crayon iPad stylus charges via USB-C, just like the new iPad 10. That makes it a simpler option than the Apple Pencil 1 that still uses Lightning. And the stylus is designed with children in mind. New Apple TV 4K is faster and cheaper Apple has unveiled the 2022 Apple TV 4K with significantly faster internals and a lower price. It features the same A15 Bionic chip found inside the iPhone 13 and iPhone 14 series. macOS Ventura and iPadOS 16 are coming on October 24 After months of beta testing, Apple is finally ready to release iPadOS 16 and macOS Ventura to the public. Both OSes will release on October 24.
