This week, we're scratching The Itch to reach new heights! Halestorm's new album Everest arrives on August 8th, and drummer Arejay Hale stopped by to become a three-time guest and talk about it! This album was a growth experience for him as a writer, as he took a more prominent role as a lyricist as the band pivoted to a more internal approach with fewer co-writers than on previous records. Of course, it wouldn't be a proper Arejay conversation without bouncing around to a few other topics (and bands!), including his hopes and plans for KemikalFire (his band with Lit drummer Taylor Carroll), newlywed life with his bride Emily Watson, and the surreal experience of playing Ozzy Osbourne's final show. This one has its share of insight and introspection, but it still includes at least one movie quote for the savvy listener. Enjoy. If you like what you hear, you can hear more of us every Sunday night broadcasting rock to the masses from 6-9pm CST on KCLC-FM. In this special episode of Unwritten Chapters, I'm sharing a powerful conversation from the archives — my guest interview on The Last Show with David Cooper. As I take some time off to recover from illness, I wanted to bring you a previously aired episode that explores themes central to this podcast: mental health, PTSD, addiction recovery, grief, trauma, healing, and life after service. We talk candidly about post-traumatic stress, the challenges of living with anxiety and depression, and how storytelling has become a tool for connection, reflection, and survival. Whether you're a veteran, first responder, or someone navigating personal loss, this conversation offers insight, support, and shared experience. If you're looking for a podcast about mental health journeys, recovery after trauma, or simply need to hear an honest, human story — this episode is for you. Please consider sharing it with someone who might benefit from these words.
This week we sadly announce that we are ending IMTalk next week. We also share some of the history of the show.

Aint nobody laughing Bahhaha Those aint bells but sirens ringing Everybody tensing Making spirits tight Put your hands in the 10 and 2 Case B Fyfe gon' fire anyway…. Ohh Girl those are sirens, those are sirens pull over right away 5-0 noticed too many of us In this low rider any way, hey those are sirens those are sirens 5-0 on the way Put your hands in the 10 and 2 Case B Fyfe gon' fire anyway…. Contrary to Kanye belief, that slavery is a state of mind, his rant was on the line of maybe a little antipsychotic or ECT would set him right, but in Parable of the Sower, Octavia Butler was making parallels to debtors prison, work houses of 18th and 19th century, sharecropping and the loss of free and agency in modern day. This is the last episode of Notes from America with Kai Wright. If you've been with the show through its multi-year history and iterations as a NYC-based narrative podcast and local call-in show called The United States of Anxiety before becoming a nationally distributed program, then you may remember the conversation in this finale. It's with cultural historian, Columbia University professor and MacArthur fellow Saidiya Hartman, who introduces host Kai Wright to young women whose lives were obscured by respectability politics. Hartman is the author of "Wayward Lives, Beautiful Experiments: Intimate Histories of Riotous Black Girls, Troublesome Women, and Queer Radicals," which offers an intimate look into some of the Black people that have been seemingly erased from the history books. Through a series of readings, they explore the complicated role of Black intellectuals like W.E.B DuBois, the Black family and how a damaging moralism continues to inform the policing of marginalized communities, public space and American cultural politics today. This episode was originally published as “The ‘Beautiful Experiments' Left Out of Black History” on February 8, 2021.Find Notes From America's archive of episodes here, including the following companion listening for this episode:“Faith Ringgold Creates Space for Black Americans” (1/5/2023)Faith Ringgold's art is an intimate dialogue and debate between generations of Black women, stretching from the formerly enslaved to today.
