One-Act Play Collections - Book 15, Part 1 Title: One-Act Play Collections - Volume 15 Overview: Here, in our 15th collection, are 10 One-Act Plays for your enjoyment. They range from the mid-1600s to the early 1900s, from outright farce to bittersweet relationships, all short gems to make you laugh, cry, think, or all three. A one-act play is a play that has only one act and is distinct from plays that occur over several acts. One-act plays may consist of one or more scenes. The 20-40 minute play has emerged as a popular subgenre of the one-act play, especially in writing competitions. One-act plays make up the overwhelming majority of Fringe Festival shows including at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. The origin of the one-act play may be traced to the very beginning of recorded Western drama: in ancient Greece, Cyclops, a satyr play by Euripides, is an early example. The satyr play was a farcical short work that came after a trilogy of multi-act serious drama plays. A few notable examples of one-act plays emerged before the 19th century including various versions of the Everyman play and works by Moliere and Calderon. One act plays became more common in the 19th century and is now a standard part of repertory theatre and fringe festivals. Vanessa shares the profound impact of expression beyond the bounds of perfection, weaving in themes of creativity, ancestral healing, and community through improv. She touches on her extensive experience in the spiritual domain, revealing how these artistic endeavors are intertwined with personal and collective healing.   Drawing from her adventures at the Fringe Festival, Vanessa underscores the importance of embracing imperfection and making bold choices in any creative or life endeavor. She calls attention to the power of presence over polish in performance, emphasizing the emotional and community value of authentic self-expression.   Vanessa extends these lessons to everyday life and business, encouraging listeners to allow creativity to lead and rejecting the constraints of societal expectations. Through anecdotes and reflections, she highlights how creativity serves as both a spiritual and personal outlet for growth and authenticity. Hello and welcome to a special summer bonus episode of YXE Underground. I hope you are having a wonderful summer! One of the highlights of my summer is always enjoying the Saskatoon Fringe Festival. It is put on by Saskatoon's 25th Street Theatre and features artists not only from Saskatoon and Canada, but from around the world as well. The Fringe Festival attracts amazing live theatre productions to our community and brings people together in very unique ways that Philippa Williams explains in this episode of the podcast. Philippa Williams has been with 25th Street Theatre for years, and this year is one of the leaders who is ensuring the festival runs smoothly. I met with Philippa at the Fringe Festival site in W.E. Graham Park in the Broadway neighbourhood to learn more about this year's festival and discover why fringe performers continue to choose Saskatoon as a place to share their talents. Philippa also shares her passion for ensuring the Fringe continues to make a difference in our community. I think you will love our conversation and hopefully it sparks an interest in checking out this year's Saskatoon Fringe Festival!Click here to learn more about the shows being performed at this year's festival and to purchase tickets. They range from a 1659 farce by Moliere to an 1896 play by Fuller with early LGBT content; a Gilbert play without Sullivan's music, and many other short gems to make you laugh, cry, think, or all three. One-Act Play Collections - Book 4, Part 1 Title: One-Act Play Collections - Volume 4 Overview: This collection of twelve one-act dramas features plays by James Allen, John Kendrick Bangs, Gordon Bottomley, Charles Dickens, Lord Dunsany, Susan Glaspell, George Bernard Shaw, August Strindberg, Marion Craig Wentworth, and William Butler Yeats.
