Pastor James Powell from The House Vegas reminds us of Paul's instruction in Philippians 3:13. It comes from a place of lived experience, not theory. Writing from prison, Paul reflects on a life marked by both great success and deep failure. Rather than allowing either to define him, he makes a conscious decision to forget what is behind him so he can faithfully pursue what God has ahead. Selective amnesia is the discipline of releasing what no longer has authority so we can walk fully in God's purpose.
Episode Summary:In the first episode of 2026, Nick embarks on a year-long exploration of Eric Hobsbawm's monumental work, The Age of Extremes: The Short Twentieth Century, 1914–1991.We begin by examining Hobsbawm's premise: that the 20th century was defined by a binary struggle between ideologies that mutually excluded one another—capitalism vs. communism, democracy vs. fascism. But as Nick argues, this Western-centric view often simplifies the complex realities of national liberation struggles in China, Vietnam, and the Global South. The episode also delves into one of the most pressing issues for modern historians: "historical amnesia." Why, despite living in an age of information saturation, do we feel increasingly disconnected from the past? Drawing on Tony Judt and Hobsbawm, we explore how the breakdown of intergenerational storytelling and the allure of the "endless now" have created a society adrift in a permanent present.Plus: Important announcements about our upcoming live masterclasses for history students launching later this month!Key Topics:The Short 20th Century: Hobsbawm's definition of the era from 1914 to 1991.Historical Amnesia: Why the destruction of social memory is the eerie hallmark of the late 20th century. The Problem of Judgment: Why understanding the context of atrocities like the Holocaust does not mean forgiving them. The Binary Trap: Moving beyond the simple "Good vs. Evil" narrative of the Cold War.Books Mentioned:The Age of Extremes by Eric HobsbawmPostwar by Tony JudtExplaining History helps you understand the 20th Century through critical conversations and expert interviews. Send us a textIn this episode of The Book Fix, Yajaira and Cheli dive into Alchemised, Senlinyu's dark, atmospheric debut about memory loss, necromancy, and the lies people build a world on. They break down Helena Marino's story: once a talented alchemist, now a war prisoner with a suspiciously blank mind and enemies convinced she's hiding something crucial. Paladia has fallen to corrupt guild families and necromancers, and Helena's supposed “insignificance” doesn't add up—especially when no one can explain the missing months before her capture. Lionel challenges listeners to abandon the "United States of Amnesia" and engage in critical thinking about everything from declassified CIA Dispatch 1035-960 to the forensic realities of the Epstein case. Whether dissecting the "Mockingbird media" or revealing why Israel Bissell—not Paul Revere—is the true hero of the midnight ride, Lionel cuts through the "distorted" narratives of both political parties. If you're tired of being "habituated" to misinformation and want to know who is really running the show, this is the intellectual revolution you've been waiting for. Learn more about your ad choices. Step into The Conspiratorium, a masterclass in critical thinking where Lionel dismantles the "mockingbird media" and wipes the "fishbowl" of mainstream reality clean. From the forensic mysteries of the Jeffrey Epstein case to the true story of Israel Bissell's midnight ride, this show challenges listeners to escape the "United States of Amnesia" and question every "repeater" on cable news. Whether he is dissecting complex legal defenses, exposing massive welfare fraud, or navigating the "surreal" landscape of human egg farms and AI, Lionel offers a selection of topics as diverse and unpredictable as a Cheesecake Factory menu. Already a household name in his home country of Brazil, Wagner Moura (Narcos, Civil War) is building an international profile as a politically engaged actor who's drawn to movies with a message. Most recently, he won best actor at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival for “The Secret Agent.” Set during the waning days of Brazil's repressive military dictatorship, the movie is a deeply personal one for Wagner who was born at the tail end of the regime. He joins Tom Power to talk about “The Secret Agent,” how movies can help the self-esteem of a country, and why some politicians are afraid of artists.

In light of the recent legal troubles surrounding Sean "Diddy" Combs, a growing number of celebrities are actively distancing themselves from him and his infamous parties. The fallout stems from a series of disturbing allegations, including sex trafficking and violent misconduct at Diddy's so-called "Freak Off" parties, where many high-profile individuals were once regular attendees.Celebrities like Leonardo DiCaprio and Megan Fox have been notably swift in creating distance, with DiCaprio's camp emphasizing that he hasn't been involved with Diddy for years, despite old photos resurfacing from parties they both attended. Megan Fox, meanwhile, deleted posts featuring Diddy across her social media platforms. Others, like Kim Kardashian and Justin Bieber, who were previously seen at Diddy's high-profile gatherings, have remained silent but have quietly distanced themselves as well. Some stars, such as Damon Dash, have gone on record to clarify that they only attended one or two events many years ago, often framing their association as minimal.PR experts suggest that this silence is part of a calculated strategy, as discussing Diddy's legal issues publicly could lead to unwanted scrutiny. Celebrities are now avoiding the topic entirely, trying to remove themselves from the narrative to protect their personal and professional reputations as Diddy's legal battles continue to unfold.Meanwhile, the public outcry demanding answers from these people continues to grow. to contact me:bobbycapucci@protonmail.comsource:TOM LEONARD: Which A-Listers will be dragged into P Diddy's drugs and orgies scandal next? Send us a textA glass of nostalgia, a splash of danger, and a valley full of secrets—this Falcon Crest recap is loaded. We kick off with canned screwdriver memories before diving straight into the vineyard's new tempo: grief turning to heat as Lance and Terry find solace by the lake, Richard reeling from news that Leather Pants Pam is “gone,” and a blacked-out Bronco shoving him toward another near-death mystery. The pace is tighter, the stakes are higher, and every smile hides an angle. Angela does what Angela does best—listen, learn, and leverage. After overhearing Anna and Cassandra's budget blowup, she weaponizes restraint and reputation, from a brutal San Francisco office visit to a quiet threat at home. Meanwhile, Melissa tries to toe the line between growth and fury as Robin undercuts her in her own house. A weary priest calls out her legendary sins with unvarnished honesty, and Cole steps up to defend boundaries—finally—before the next crack forms. The sharpest blade belongs to Maggie. Amnesia can't mute instinct, and every mention of Richard lands like static. Angela arrives in soft colors and sharp intent, dropping a whisper of an affair that Chase refuses to confront head-on. The result? A single glass on the table, a note underneath, and a choice that rewrites the power map of the valley. Add in Father Christopher's arrival—an earnest smile covering a secret that could split the family—and this hour becomes a study in how truth, money, and memory are traded in Tuscany Valley. If you love 80s prime-time soaps, high-stakes family politics, and plot twists that actually pay off, you'll feel right at home. Hit play, then tell us: is Maggie safer with Chase or Richard—and did Angela finally go too far? Subscribe, share with a fellow soap lover, and leave a review with your boldest theory.

Every Saturday, we revisit a story from the archives. This originally aired on September 13, 2021. None of the dates, titles, or other references from that time have been changed. Iraq’s Abu Ghraib prison was once a front-page headline in the “war on terror”. Today, public knowledge of the torture that made it infamous is starting to fade – but 17 years later, one US lawsuit for its victims is still going on. It centres on private contractors: companies that became an integral part of the US military efforts post-9/11 attacks, which changed the way war is fought – and accountability is sought. In this episode: Rafael Shimunov (@rafaelshimunov), human rights activist Katherine Gallagher (@katherga1), senior staff attorney at the Center for Constitutional Rights Majid, Abu Ghraib plaintiffs’ legal team member in Iraq Episode credits: This episode was updated by Haleema Shah. On MSNBC this week, host Joe Scarborough gave a familiar speech about the dangers of Donald Trump wielding government power against his political opponents. With figures like Letitia James, James Comey, and John Bolton finally facing charges, the Left has quickly rediscovered its love for judicial restraint. Scarborough delivered his tirade with nods of approval from other journalists, and he warned that Trump and his administration officials would face a similar set of politically motivated prosecutions once they are out of power — the obvious problem being that the Democrats already brought those charges against Trump and his staff. The Left is attempting to engage in political amnesia in hopes of selling a program of political de-escalation that they have no intention of taking part in. There's a lot to think about when playing an early set for such an iconic old clubbing brand like Godskitchen, especially when it's a 25th anniversary show at Amnesia in Ibiza. I need to make sure I stay true to my current sound, while throwing in memorable tracks and moments from back in the day. I need to make sure those classics I do play aren't obvious ones that are peak time and the ones everyone else will think of playing on the night. I need to place those records carefully, depending on how long it takes for the room to fill up (the club was packed on this occasion!), and how the energy is going. And I need to be considerate of which DJ is following me, and also the general flow of the night on a whole, while marrying the expectations of the people on the dancefloor. This is what I went for, and I think it's worked out ok :) Tracklist: 1. Paul Thomas - Resistance [UV] 2. Way Out West - The Fall (Simos Tagias Remix) 3.
