Michael Parisi has spent 30 years working in the music industry. He started at Warner Music as a Promotions Manager before moving into marketing and A&R (Artists and repertoire) roles. His time in the industry has seen him put in charge of artist rosters including the likes of Dr Dre, Snoop Dogg, Nine Inch Nails, Green Day in his marketing role at Warner and AC/DC, Garbage and Kylie Minogue in his role at Mushroom Records. Woodlock are a Melbourne based Alt-folk Trio who found success busking all over Australia. New Zealand-born brothers Zech and Eze Walters struck up a friendship with Bowen Purcell (drums) after moving to Australia. In search of adventure, the three traveled around the country busking, before eventually settling in Melbourne. Now signed to Nettwerk Records, the trio has been recording new music over nine months in a variety of locations – from Bowen’s garage to Homesurgery Recordings in Melbourne – and working with producers Hayden Calnin (Didirri, Harrison Storm, and a solo artist in his own right) and Jackson Barclay (Vera Blue, Winterbourne, Timberwolf). Their new music – a dynamic mix of organic, acoustic elements and electronic flourishes – is a breathtakingly candid collection of songs about heartbreak, trauma and hope. In this episode they shared how it all began, the lessons they have learnt along the way, the CRAZY success stories and the beautiful adventure they have been on together. Indie-folk singer-songwriter Harrison Storm has already amassed 160+ million combined streams on Spotify. He has made a name for himself on the road as an honest and charismatic performer with crowd-pleasing confidence, playing alongside artists such as Snow Patrol, The Paper Kites, Ziggy Alberts, and Hollow Coves. Diligently chasing his musical dream with a sense of urgency, he dropped out of university to solely devote his days to busking for tourists in Melbourne, eventually making enough to finance his 2015 debut EP Sense of Home, produced by friend Hayden Calnin. Harrison caught the attention of Nettwerk Records co-founder Terry McBride, who personally signed him after sending him a message on Facebook. Tania Doko is the front woman for ARIA award winning pop duo, ‘Bachelor Girl’. Their hit song ‘Buses And Trains’ released in 1998 won ‘Song Of The Year’. 2018 marked the 20th anniversary of the ‘Buses and Trains’ release and was acknowledged by APRA as the most played Australian composition on Australian radio in the last 20 years! Tania’s songwriting and music has taken her all around the globe, she is still performing and is now a full time songwriter in Sweden. Jay is an absolute legend and hearing the story of how Sheppard came to be, how their hit music was created and also how they remain to be independent musicians in Australia was eye opening. 2019 has been a massive year at Coach Music Academy. Celebrating the opening of our official studio in Frankston, located within a beautifully designed warehouse. Our coaching expanded to include Musical Theatre training, alongside our strong foundations in artist development, songwriting, and industry pathways. We were host to four workshops including 'How to Start Busking and Gigging' featuring 'The Buskers Guide' Founders, 'Harmonies' with Ash Kennedy, Elle Murphy and Hayley Noy, 'Acting' with Channel 9 star Riley Nottingham, and a 2-hour special guest workshop from Bachelor Girl’s, Tania Doko. Our students continued to shine this year and we were proud to celebrate the success of long-time student ‘Tulliah’ as a finalist in Triple J's Unearthed High. Her first single 'Company' gained recognition, and she finished the year by supporting superstar Amy Shark. The Coach Music Podcast has garnered a loyal following of listeners and we can’t thank you guys enough for tuning in! We will be back in early 2020 to start the year with a bang and continue sharing the stories of people pursuing careers in the entertainment industry! Maverick Newman is an award-winning Actor/Writer from Melbourne, Australia. He graduated from the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts better known as WAAPA in 2018 with a B.A. in Music Theatre. Maverick has already garnered 4 Green Room Award nominations for his debut one-man musical comedy “Finding Felix: A Memoir” of which he toured nationally in 2017-18. The cabaret also led to a Viceland Documentary on SBS. In 2018, after winning the ‘Julie Michael Cabaret Award’ with his so-written and co-starring cabaret ’Tis The Season…, toured the show again around Australia to sell-out crowds.
