Ep53: All About R&B pt.1  我和老林不仅会分享一些传统意义上的 R&B/Soul,也有与这类风格和文化互相影响渗透的Dance, UK Street Soul 等 UK 特色的音乐。*我们聊的大部分音乐是1980s 之后的,1980s 之前UK R&B 有几个阶段也会提及:1960s: British InvasionLate 1960s: Northern Soul Late 1970s: Lovers RockMid 1980s - Early 1990s:  UK Street Soul (Discogs 关于 UK Street Soul 的介绍https://www.discogs.com/style/uk%20street%20soul)Episode Playlist:M People - “Inner City Cruise”Cymande - “Dove”Loose Ends - “Hangin' On A String”Loose Ends - “Don't You Ever (Try To Change Me)”Soul Ⅱ Soul - “Move Me No Mountain”M People - “Colour My lIfe” Sade - “Tar Baby”The Style Council - “Shout To The Top (USA Remix)”Julia Fordham - “Porcelain” Seal - “Crazy” Seal - “Don't Cry”Seal - “Human Beings” Ocean - “Don't Stand There” Lisa Stansfield - “Mighty Love”Lisa Stansfield - “All Around The World” All Saints - “Rock Steady (Satrip)”Tasmin Archer -“Sleeping Satellite”Mark Morrison - “Return of the Mack”Damage - “Ghetto Romance”Shola Ama - “You Might Need Somebody”Floetry - “Say Yes” Floetry  ft. Today on Too Opinionated we sit down with LA's rising R&B/Soul star Nicollette. Nicollette's soulful voice harks back to the days of the great women that inspire her such as Billie Holiday and Nina Simone. Nicollette's soothing style finds its home next to Sade, Amy Winehouse and Lana Del Ray.  Nicollette  released her velvety smooth Neo soul single “Broken" on Friday April 12th. “Broken” is the lead single from Nicollette's forthcoming album release slated for Friday August 16th.  Nicollette has been surrounded by music her entire life. Both of her parents are singers; her dad was the lead singer in a hard rock band and her mom sang back up for various bands. Exposed to hard rock and metal from dad and Soul, R&B, Classical, and Funk from mom, Nicollette had a diverse musical experience growing up. Meanwhile, with her mom and grandmother, she was steeped in classic, black and white films, and period pieces. It was watching these films that led to Nicollette's discovery of some of the artists that influenced her musical development. Through musicals and singing in choir while in school, Nicollette began developing her voice by pursuing singing professionally after high school. It was then that the writing for her debut album began. Over the next few years Nicollette's "voice" and brand developed. Today she is working on her sophomore album and continuing to evolve and develop as an artist.

Hello everyone, Billy Amendola here on Drum Channel with my long-time friend and R&B/Soul legend Earl Young.    Earl, known as the founder and singer of the group The Trammps, (and recording drummer) took the disco world to the mainstream pop charts with their smash hit “Disco Inferno” among others.    Always having success as both a vocalist as well as a drummer, many didn't realize that Earl, along with the rhythm section, of the late, Ronnie Baker and Norman Harris, created what's known as TSOP (The Sound of Philadelphia)   Along with producers/songwriters Gamble & Huff, the trio went on to record classic R&B/Soul hits throughout the 70s. Creating a sound all their own.    When the Baker, Harris, and Young hit-making machine stretched out to form MFSB and Salsoul Orchestra, the trio took their trademark sound with them.    Let's listen in on how Earl's career started from his early childhood to his teens, to an adult, to a now young 84-year-old, who's still out playing and touring with his version of Earl Young and The Trammps. This show is a history lesson for sure. Enjoy!

R&B singer & producer Reeny Smith joins the show to discuss her new Christmas EP "Where You At Santa"!    Three years in the making and written at various times of year, Reeny Smith's “Where You At Santa?” was first inspired by Hallmark's annual “Christmas in July” movie series. The heartfelt, compelling, and at times satirical collection of Christmas classics and originals showcase the artists' profound talent, with the majority of the songs written, performed, and produced by Smith herself.    With a modern take on some of her Christmas favourites and brand new songs that are sure to be contemporary classics, “Where You At Santa?” is a musical celebration of the holiday season and offers a delightful, modern, and memorable soundtrack for the upcoming holiday season and those beyond it.   With her remarkable talents as a singer, songwriter, and producer, Reeny Smith has swiftly been making a name for herself as one of the top artists in the R&B/Soul genre in Canada today. Combining her roots as a choir singer in the Baptist church with her love of 90's R&B and Soul, Smith's powerful, rich vocals, musical craftsmanship, and captivating live performances have led her to become one of the most notable artists in her field.   Connect w/ Reeny Smith —       —   Support Colton Gee and Desert Tiger ----- Check out our webstore @ Follow the Desert Tiger Podcast @   Follow Colton Gee @   —
