For the construction of the Polish club in Bankstown, Mr. Stanisław Ejsak, together with other Poles, collected money to buy a plot of land. There were many who mortgaged their own homes as guarantees for the loan needed to build it. After the club was opened in 1972, he became one of the directors of the board of what he calls a 'Little Poland'. As the European Union has evolved over the past 20 years into a more cohesive social, economic, and political entity, one area of integration has lagged behind the others: defense. This is due to the extensive overlap in membership between the European Union and NATO, and to the reluctance of European governments to spend large sums on their militaries. In this week's episode of Horns of a Dilemma, a former Polish defense minister, foreign minister, and speaker of the Polish parliament who is currently serving as a member of the European Parliament argues that Europe should develop its own military force. Radoslaw Sikorski makes the case that a European army, independent of NATO, would be valuable in responding to and deterring Russian aggression, as well as dealing with other distinctly European challenges--such as migration--that do not directly implicate American security interests. This event was recorded at an event sponsored by the Polish Club at the University of Texas, Austin, and co-sponsored in part by the Clements Center for National Security.
Cosigner joined The Building Downtown (@TheBuildingDT) hosts Jason Kelly (@JayKellyMMA) and Kirill Kasatskiy (@KrilRaps) to discuss the Undeniable Tour happening in Canada and the US, the Undeniable album series, how he assembles teams on the ground in different regions, the difference between throwing events in Canada vs. the states, the possibility and desire of getting into the European market, how hip hop changed when Wall Street saw opportunity and got involved, share stories of rap acts being blackballed from radio and shows by big corporations and politicians with agendas, and dropped a wealth of knowledge for artists and anyone involved in the hip hop music business. Along with Cosigner, the hosts welcomed Jimmy Magnum (@JimmyMagnum1), who is performing on the Undeniable Tour on Aug. 6, at the Polish Club in Cambridge, Ontario, Canada. Magnum is a reggae artist form Ontario, with a unique story, and he gave insight on his background, his career, challenges of creating music in a genre that doesn't offer many similar artists in the same region -or country for that matter- and spoke on his new single "Go Go," and newest project. Michael Parisi has spent 30 years working in the music industry. He started at Warner Music as a Promotions Manager before moving into marketing and A&R (Artists and repertoire) roles. His time in the industry has seen him put in charge of artist rosters including the likes of Dr Dre, Snoop Dogg, Nine Inch Nails, Green Day in his marketing role at Warner and AC/DC, Garbage and Kylie Minogue in his role at Mushroom Records. His first band he signed, a then-unknown UK three-piece at the time, becoming a band you may know as MUSE, Michael’s instinct for what works in the industry is second to none, having more #1 albums than any managing director or A&R around this time. His career has also seen him contribute to the success of artists such as Red Hot Chili Peppers, K.D Lang and REM. Michael is one of the most well-known music managers in Australia. He is the mastermind behind some of Australia’s most successful musicians and currently looks after Vera Blue, Dan Sultan, Owl Eyes, Polish Club, and Disco Faith. Polish Club talks to someone who is actually stoked about releasing a second album; Montaigne. After getting out all their anxiety about touring and having a relationship with your audience, the conversation naturally bends towards John Mayer. Then, in an attempt to reframe the meaning behind the album 'Iguana', Tom gets Novak and JH face-to-face with an actual iguana. Things are... nice. || Visit www.Montaignemusic.com.au for links to Montaigne's album, 'Complex', where you can hear the song 'READY' from this episode. Huge thanks to Taronga Zoo! King was a champ. ||

David Novak and John-Henry Pajak are Polish Club. They're born entertainers, leather-jacket-cool rockstars and purveyors of hip-swinging, soulful garage rock. They've also served time in punk bands (contrary to Daniel Johns' opinion), smashed more McNuggets than they'd care to mention and travelled extensively to perform for a whole slew of punters along the way. Today's chat is loose, highly informal and occasionally explicit. It's also funny and insightful, as one would expect from two such characters as Novak and JH. So, get around these recent Hottest 100 entrants and get some clarity. Neighbour: First up is Brisbane singer songwriter Ryan Nebauer who performs under the name Neighbour. Ryan formerly fronted local rock band Fushia, who had lots of success including national tours, and two nominations for Queensland Music Awards. But for the past two years he’s been writing songs solo and has stripped it down to a low key folk pop style. His recordings and live performances feature members of the medics, cheap fakes, pigeon, and sometimes he even gets his dad to jump on the double bass. Recorded & Mixed by Branko Cosic. Recorded at The Triffid, Brisbane, 23rd of August 2015. Polish Club: Polish club describe themselves as the spirit of Motown’s finest with the rock scuzz of Detroit. Their sound is a mix of brash blues guitar riffs over up tempo drums, and a howling voice to top it off. The band has only released four songs so far but has gained enough attention to attract national interest which saw them land a spot on 2015’s Big Sound Live lineup. Recorded by Harvey O’Sullivan and Hugh Fasher Mixed by Hugh Fasher Mastered by Andrew Edgson Recorded at The Metro, Sydney, 9th of May 2015. Airing details: Originally via Zed Digital, 8-9pm, Friday 18th September 2015. Show production and engineering: Branko Cosic.
