SORCHA is a 23 year old singer, songwriter and musician based in Melbourne, Australia. Music has been a huge part of her life from a young age. She was always writing her own music and putting on performances for family and friends growing up, until eventually she started performing at open mic nights, in musical theatre and busking. Actually pursuing music only became a reality in her late teens when she started getting live show gigs and recording her own music. It was a long but exciting journey leading up to the release of her first EP. So many life experiences/lessons, love encounters and heartbreaks have led up to that moment and made it all worthwhile. SORCHA describes her style of music as indie pop. Her story telling is emotional and descriptive of her personal and love life. Her inspirations growing up were Taylor Swift, Delta Goodrem, Dixie Chicks, Ed Sheeran, and John Mayer. Today she is influenced by artists such as Vera Blue, Odette, Holly Humberstone, Maggie Rogers, still Taylor Swift and Jess Day. She taught herself how to use Garage Band at age 16 and quickly started recording and making her own music. Her process is usually to produce a basic draft idea of her song to then send to her producers who elevate the performance and quality. She has worked in both established and home studios, gaining knowledge and an understanding for the production and recording process of making music. Backing and vocal harmonies are a major focus throughout SORCHA's music. She builds the melodies of her songs from a simple vocal hook, gradually adding more layers and instruments as the song evolves. She has a unique tone and style that separates herself from other current artists. Having lived a part of her childhood in Ireland, she obtained a twang in her voice identifying her long lost Irish and current Australian accents. Over the years SORCHA has developed many looks/brand images trying to find herself and what corresponds with her music. Pastels, groovy alternative clothes, constantly changing hair colours, a strong winged liner, tattoos, piercings and glitter pretty much sum up her look and make her easily identifiable to her audiences. Her performances and gigs are always colourful, fun and captivating. While you can bop your head to some tunes, there is also lots of room to immerse yourself in her emotional lyrics and relate to similar experiences. Gigs range from solo performances with either a guitar or piano, to a full band show. SORCHA was born to make music. You can really see how her passion, love and creativity thrives on the stage. Her aspiration is to perform, record and write for a living, sharing her stories and experiences through her voice. Music is a powerful tool and she intends to use it to make a positive impact on the lives of many.

This is Draw The Line Radio Show with Jacki-E, presenting the best music from female producers and DJs. Helping me Draw The Line,, with her guest mix in the second hour, it's Rebecca Gough who's from Manchester in the UK and is now based in London. She's also inspired by Dixon and his 10/12 hour sets which incorporate dance, deep melodic, afro and techno in ways that inform Rebecca's own DJ sets. She's done DJ mixes for many radio shows & podcasts and played at London clubs such as Orange Yard, Egg and many others. At the end of July, Jack River dropped an open letter calling for more Aussie music airplay at the Olympics. A slew of Aussie artists have backed calls by Jack River for Channel 7 to play Australian music during the network's coverage of the Olympics, as the country's artists continue to endure yet another wave of gig cancellations and postponements due to the pandemic and subsequent lockdowns, restrictions and border closures. “How great would it be if you played all Australian music in your coverage of the Olympics? These are Australian moments, they deserve Australian music,” said Jack River. “And while we're here, how good would it be to hear Aussie music in Coles, Woolies, Aldi, in banks, on hold, in stores and on ads being shown to Australian for the next few months?” she added. “We need you more than ever. We wanna be your soundtrack.” River's call was met with support from artists like Lime Cordiale, Annie Hamilton, B Wise, Vera Blue, Cub Sport and Jaguar Jonze, who wrote, “HELL YES. Our domestic music quota is so low compared to other countries supporting their own artists.” Unveiled Thursday (Aug. 5), Our Soundtrack Our Stories is a cross-industry project which calls on corporations, media and “anyone willing to listen” to soundtrack Australian lives with homegrown music. The indie artist and entrepreneur's words didn't fall on deaf ears. Channel 7, Channel 9, Coles, 7-Eleven and Bank Australia listened and have taken action. Last week, River launched the Our Soundtrack Our Stories campaign, which invites the wider business community and beyond to discover, champion, share, and consume more local music, which, in short time, will generate essential streaming and sales royalties for struggling artists. The gameplan is a simple one. Play more Australian music, more of the time. A factsheet shared by the pool of partners recommends business owners play local music in their stores and business (and, of course, obtain the right license by visiting OneMusic), spin a radio station that champions local artists, and share the campaign social assets. To join the movement, artists are encouraged to work their social accounts, push the assets, tag businesses that should do more (and give a shout-out to the supporters), create and share themed playlists, and get creative. The industry's hardship is brought into sharp focus in a new report from I Lost My Gig, which found artists and professionals had lost $64 million in revenue lost since July 1, with almost the entire sum uninsurable. The real figure is likely significantly higher. To play a part in Our Soundtrack Our Stories, use the hashtag #OurSoundtrackOurStories on Facebook, Instagram, TikTok and Twitter. Michael Parisi has spent 30 years working in the music industry. He started at Warner Music as a Promotions Manager before moving into marketing and A&R (Artists and repertoire) roles. His time in the industry has seen him put in charge of artist rosters including the likes of Dr Dre, Snoop Dogg, Nine Inch Nails, Green Day in his marketing role at Warner and AC/DC, Garbage and Kylie Minogue in his role at Mushroom Records. His first band he signed, a then-unknown UK three-piece at the time, becoming a band you may know as MUSE, Michael’s instinct for what works in the industry is second to none, having more #1 albums than any managing director or A&R around this time. His career has also seen him contribute to the success of artists such as Red Hot Chili Peppers, K.D Lang and REM. Michael is one of the most well-known music managers in Australia. He is the mastermind behind some of Australia’s most successful musicians and currently looks after Vera Blue, Dan Sultan, Owl Eyes, Polish Club, and Disco Faith. There is so much to learn from Michael. I know this episode will bring you so much knowledge. Together with American Songwriter, we had the pleasure of interviewing Xoe Wise over Zoom video! Xoe Wise is a singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer originally from a small town in NC, now based in Chicago. Her releases have spanned from folk to rock, to electronic. Her forthcoming (3rd) release Air features Xoe’s folk repertoire with lush yet intimate horns by Martin Wenk (Calexico, Nada Surf), string and synth arrangements and production by Wise and Minterm. The record includes love songs like “Park too Close” exploring the difficulties of paralleling parking while finding solace in the kindness of your partner. The first single Cross-Eyed Rose” tells an emotional story of wanderlust and finding out that you are not alone. Her debut record Echo was produced by Ethan Stoller and released in 2010 to critical acclaim. Chicago Innerview recognized Wise as “easily the singer/songwriter and pop counterpart to Columbia native Chaz Bundick’s (a.k.a. Toro Y Moi) laconic chill-wave synth ballads.” The Chicago Tribune’s Redeye described her next single “Dear Sendai” as “spiritual.”Wise's sophomore album Archive of Illusions was written on the road with co-producer and friend Matt Ryd in 2011. The record attracted a sold-out crowd to Schubas. TuneCore called the record "new and noteworthy". Xoe has also been seen and heard in Netflix shows such as Sense8, and Showtimes Work in Progress. Wise was also a NPR Newsong finalist.Wise released the Breakfast EP in 2013 and RacecarO in 2015. She was featured on HuffPost for her single "Doctor" and in 2016 101WKQX featured her rock single "Dollhouse" produced by Howie Beno on air. 101 recruited her as a QUED Up Artist to perform for a sold-out Metro show supporting Wild Belle. She has shared the stage with artists Lisa Loeb, Guster, The Verve Pipe, Daley, St. Etienne, Greg Laswell, Andrew Belle, Tyrone Wells, Vera Blue, Verité (as Kinky Love), and Meg Myers. Based on the ethos that when we transform ourselves, we transform the world around us, film maker and business owner Ella Gibbins notes when we are in harmony with ourselves, we attract harmonious circumstances, situations, and business relationships. In this podcast, Ella and I discuss the benefits of harmonising with your environment rather than controlling it. We explore: •The Economy of Harmony and how productivity comes from having a deep connection to your subconscious •The emergence of her business 'the Atlas of Consciousness' •The value of meditation in finding clarity Ella Gibbins has been a professional film-maker, producer, and cinematographer for 10 years, with a passion for bringing to life unique and extraordinary projects. Three years ago she moved through the mental illness Psychosis which opened her to meditation, a deeper spirituality and creativity. She was inspired to create the production and multi-media company the Atlas of Consciousness which produces purpose-driven videos, podcasts, and books which help us all to 'see ourselves and our world in a new way.' Ella has made videos for companies such as Down Syndrome Australia, the United Nations, as well as for Conscious and New Movement Leaders, with one of her videos being viewed over 60,000 times. Behind every great solo performer, there is a killer session musician bringing their work to life. Just ask Dave Jenkins, Jr. - after all, he's made a career out of it. From Andy Bull to Reece Mastin, Vera Blue to Kirin J. Callinan all the way up to childhood hero Daniel Johns, the multi-instrumentalist has found himself either behind the kit or serving as the musical director for an impressive bevvy of names. In 2019, he's officially stepping out on his own under the moniker of Not A Boy's Name. So, how did we get here? With nearly a decade of history between us, we sat down with Dave at Forbes Street Studios in Woolloomooloo (AKA Sheep Dunny Cow Dunny) to see how an ambitious kid from the central coast dropped out of music and almost quit the game entirely before bouncing back in the most unexpected way. Special thanks to Forbes Street Studios, Universal Music Group and Maree Nordone. "Not A Boy’s Name" is the latest indie pop solo project from Sydney’s Dave Jenkins Jr.It is the culmination of several years of artistic refinement, much of which has been happening in the shadows while Jenkins Jr performedand collaborated with the likes of Daniel Johns, Kirin J Callinan and Vera Blue.Jenkins Jr has a fiercely independent creative edge and multi-instrumentalist capacity, which bringsus to "Hazard Perception Test"
Vera Blue's roots as a singer-songwriter lie in acoustic and folk, but a collaboration on her breakthrough single brought her over to the electronic side.
