Bruce Bouton is an accomplished pedal steel guitarist who has played on an extensive string of massive country albums and singles from the 80's onward. From his multi-year stint backing up Ricky Skaggs, playing some of the most memorable steel licks of the era, to most of Garth Brooks' musical output all through the 90's, Bruce has also appeared on records for Emmylou Harris, Brooks & Dunn, The Mavericks, Shania Twain, Keith Urban, Taylor Swift, Reba McEntire, and many more. Bruce has incredible skill on the instrument and has found a way to come up with hooky, accessible yet technically skillful parts and solos that have contributed to the success of so many of those recordings. He's been at this a long time and brings a wealth of experience to sessions and gigs still today. Bruce also made an instructional pedal steel video that is well worth seeking out - I sure found it enlightening when I was starting to play steel. Bruce is still very active around Nashville and we had a chance to hang out at the Henhouse and spend an hour or so talking about lots of his history and path to where he is today. You can get all the current info on Bruce at his website:www.rockinlapsteel.comEnjoy my conversation with Bruce Bouton! This season is brought to you by our main sponsors Larivée Guitars, Audeze, Izotope, FabFilter, and Chase Bliss. ABOUT DAN WILSONSongwriter, singer, musician, producer and acclaimed visual artist Dan Wilson is a Minnesota native and Harvard graduate who launched his music career with the band Trip Shakespeare, which was signed to A&M Records. He went on to reinvent himself as a behind-the-scenes hitmaker, earning a Song of the Year Grammy for co-writing “Not Ready to Make Nice” with the group then known as The Dixie Chicks, and writing three songs on Adele's multiplatinum 21 album: “Don't You Remember,” “One and Only,” and “Someone Like You,” which became an international hit and earned Dan an Album of the Year Grammy for his production work. Wilson has also found success in Nashville, co-writing Dierks Bentley's number one hit “Home” and earning yet another Album of the Year Grammy nomination for Taylor Swift's Red LP, for which he co-wrote and produced the song “Treacherous.” Dan's long list of collaborators includes Carole King, Rachel Yamagata, Jason Mraz, Gabe Dixon, Weezer, Keith Urban, Josh Groban, James Morrison, P!nk, Leann Rimes, John Legend, Chris Stapleton, Panic! The series, which focuses on “forging collaborative relationships, seeking a community, testing out ideas in front of an audience, and writing better songs,” was turned into a deck of 75 cards, designed by Dan, that distill his insights from nearly three decades of writing, performing, and collaborating with the world's greatest musical artists. Ep 224 | This week on Discover Ag, Natalie and Tara dig into the latest food tech controversies, celebrity collabs, and policy changes shaping agriculture — with their usual dose of skepticism and ranch wisdom. First up: Bill Gates-backed lab-grown butter made from carbon hits the headlines. The hosts tear apart the sustainability claims, question who's actually asking for this tech, and explain why consumers aren't buying what Silicon Valley is selling. Spoiler alert: it's giving major Beyond Meat bankruptcy vibes. Then, Molly Yeh teams up with Tractor Supply for a clothing line that actually makes sense. Unlike the butter debacle, this collaboration taps into real market demand for functional women's workwear that doesn't look like hand-me-downs from your husband's closet. Plus, Keith Urban's new reality show "The Road" promises to shake up the singing competition format with real concerts and audience voting. The hosts break down why this tour-meets-TV concept could be the next big hit. BUT WAIT — there's more! The FDA is finally fixing a 1963 regulation that's been blocking Florida oranges from juice production. With citrus greening threatening the industry and two-thirds of orange juice coming from imports, this bricks content change could be a game-changer for domestic production. "I really think this album beats the last album, and I didn't think I was going to be able to say that," Jones confesses with genuine excitement. Unlike her debut where she wrote just two of ten songs, Jones proudly reveals she's written or co-written ten of the twelve tracks on this new project, showcasing her growth as a songwriter and artist.Jones offers fascinating insights into her collaborative process, discussing partnerships with established writers like Bobby E Boyd (who penned "God Bless the Broken Road" for Rascal Flatts) and her special writing chemistry with manager Lin Snow. "We write really well together," she explains, describing how they can craft entire songs even while in different states. The conversation delves into the vulnerability required for effective co-writing and how Jones draws from personal experiences to create authentic music that resonates with listeners. The interview takes an exciting turn when Jones announces her participation as one of twelve finalists on "The Road" – a new music competition show premiering October 19th on CBS and Paramount Plus. Produced by Taylor Sheridan and Blake Shelton, the series follows artists traveling on a tour bus from venue to venue, with audiences voting for their favorites. Jason Hollis is a visual artist, entrepreneur, music producer, trailblazer, and now the owner of one of Nashville's historic and legendary music venues, formerly known as Douglas Corner, and now The Eighth Room. The Eighth Room is a hybrid of historical charm and modern flamboyance, thanks to Erin's incredible design vision. From vintage chandeliers to Versace wallpaper, licensed Andy Warhol prints as well as Hollis' original rock n' roll artwork, the venue is a visual masterpiece, making it the go-to venue in Nashville. Hollis is in the early stages of developing his own vodka, American lager as well as a branded room scent spray. On any given night, customers can expect celeb sightings and random pop-up shows with legendary bands, including Queen. Known simply as ‘Hollis'; he has collaborated with legends like Justin Timberlake and Pharrell, and played a significant role in pioneering and directing the music TV series, "Motown Magic" (Netflix) as well as YouTube's first branded music show, "Best Cover, Ever" (featuring Katy Perry, Keith Urban). (Airdate: 7.2.25) The jury in Diddy's federal trial has reached verdicts on four out of five counts—including the major sex trafficking charges—but they're deadlocked on the racketeering charge, and the judge says deliberations must continue. Then we jet to Rome, where Al Pacino was spotted dining at Il Bolognese with NBC freelancer Caterina Di Terlizzi. The two shared a cheek kiss, a warm hug, and what looked like deep conversation. Pacino's in Italy filming Maserati: The Brothers. Finally, Keith Urban didn't storm off during a recent Zoom interview—his team ended the call after a touchy question about wife Nicole Kidman's steamy scenes. His rep called it a “nothingburger.” As always—Hollywood does what Hollywood does… and we're here for it.

Nothing can beat a charismatic frontman. Then again, there are some Side Players that give them a run for their money. I mean… who is Bono without Edge? Freddie Mercury without Brian May? Roth or Haggar without Eddie Van Halen? Robert Plant without Jimmy Page? Anthony Kiedis without John Frusciante? Bon Scott or Brian Johnson without Angus & Malcolm? Or Mick Jagger without Keith Richards.Of course I would be remiss not to mention the few charismatic Frontmen that are also ripping guitarists. Like Brad Paisley, Keith Urban, John Mayer, Jimi Hendrix, Either of the Vaughn Brothers, Derek Trucks, Prince, Eric Clapton, Chet Atkins, Mark Knopfler, Vince Gill… and lets just say ALL of the Kings. But which is it better to be, a Frontman or a Side Player? Can you be both? Which carries more stress? Which carries more fame? Does one roll have more significance than the other? Who has the bigger influence on the sound? If we could give some advice, what would it be? When I think of a band, which member comes to mind? And… job security… did I just get fired?Well we will discuss this, and more on this group therapy session with Lloyd, on the Tweed Couch.
