Tania Doko become a pop sensation in 1998 as one half of Melbourne duo ‘Bachelor Girl'. Their 1998 debut single, "Buses and Trains", was a top-10 hit in Australia and New Zealand; it peaked in the top 30 in Sweden and charted in the UK. The follow-up single, "Treat Me Good", reached the top 40 in Australia and New Zealand and their debut studio album, Waiting for the Day, was released in 1998 and reached the top 20 on the ARIA Albums Chart and achieved platinum certification. A successful songwriter in her own right, Tania went on to write hit records with The Veronicas, Jessica Mauboy, Eric Bazilian, Delta Goodrem, Sheppard, and Tina Arena, to name a few. She was also a judge on Channel 7's Popstars. In 2012, Tania moved to Sweden where she worked as a singer/songwriter and vocal coach and is now an official APRA AMCOS Ambassador for the Nordic region. Bachelor Girl had already sold a total of more than 500,000 albums and singles worldwide when they reformed in 2017. In 2018 they released “Speak”, exactly 20 years to the day of their debut single. In February 2023, Bachelor Girl released "Calling Out Your Name", and in July this year she released “Harder Now”, her first single from her upcoming EP.

After crossing paths in 1992, singer Tania Doko and musician James Roche realised they shared a creative spark that would quickly evolve into pop/rock duo Bachelor Girl. The pair tell us about the road to getting signed with Ross Fraser and John Farnham's label, Gotham Records, and how their top 5 debut single, "Buses And Trains" was part of that journey. Tania and James reflect on the success of that song and how it led to being signed by US industry heavyweight Clive Davis and a revised version of debut album Waiting For The Day. 2019 has been a massive year at Coach Music Academy. Celebrating the opening of our official studio in Frankston, located within a beautifully designed warehouse. Our coaching expanded to include Musical Theatre training, alongside our strong foundations in artist development, songwriting, and industry pathways. We were host to four workshops including 'How to Start Busking and Gigging' featuring 'The Buskers Guide' Founders, 'Harmonies' with Ash Kennedy, Elle Murphy and Hayley Noy,  'Acting' with Channel 9 star Riley Nottingham, and a 2-hour special guest workshop from Bachelor Girl’s, Tania Doko.   Our students continued to shine this year and we were proud to celebrate the success of long-time student ‘Tulliah’ as a finalist in Triple J's Unearthed High. Her first single 'Company' gained recognition, and she finished the year by supporting superstar Amy Shark. The Coach Music Podcast has garnered a loyal following of listeners and we can’t thank you guys enough for tuning in! We will be back in early 2020 to start the year with a bang and continue sharing the stories of people pursuing careers in the entertainment industry! Provider of the greatest "Hey Mum!" in Australian history, Tania Doko is a songwriting powerhouse. In songwriting partnership with James Roche, Bachelor Girl had 3 top 50 singles, 5 ARIA nominations and a Songwriter of the Year award over 1998 and 1999. This freaks me out but we're approaching the twentieth anniversary of this period. Crazy.So after years of writing songs based in Stockholm, I've managed to catch Tania during a three week Melbourne trip, where she's creating a new Bachelor Girl album with James to mark this occasion. Tania Doko shot to stardom in 1998 as part of Australian duo Bachelor Girl. Alongside James Roche, the pair had a string of hits including "Buses & Trains", "Permission To Shine" and "I'm Just A Girl". These days, Tania lives in Sweden but still writes hits and helps upcoming artists develop their sound and style. We caught up with Tania on a brief trip home to Melbourne.
