Fáilte ar ais chuig eagrán nua de Ar An Lá Seo ar an 1ú lá de mí Dheireadh Fómhair, liomsa Lauren Ní Loingsigh. I 1976 thug daoine comhairle chuig múinteoirí agus tuismitheoirí chun seiceáil a dhéanamh leis na foilsitheoirí an raibh an praghas ró-ard do leabhair don scoil. Dúradh go raibh na foilsitheoirí ábalta an praghas a ardú go dleathach mar ní raibh aon phraghas socraithe ann. I 1993 tháinig na Gardaí amach ag rá go raibh pléascóg thine nua agus dainséarach ann agus go mbeadh pléasc mhór ann. Bhí siad iompórtáilte chuig an tír agus tháinig sé amach go mbeadh páistí ábalta iad a fháil roimh Oíche Shamhna. I 2003 tháinig Lowry amach go raibh sé ag tabhairt suas a shuíochán I gComhairle Chontae Thiobraid Árann chun géill leis an chealú den dé-mandáid. Bhí Seán Fogarty chun a bheith ann in ionad. I 2010 tháinig sé amach go raibh nach mór 70 teach tábhairne chun dúnadh sa chontae mar nach raibh ceadúnas nua acu. Ag an am bhí an chontae an tríú chontae tuaithe is airde a raibh ag fulaingt sa tír. Rinne a lán dóibh an cinneadh chun dúnadh agus gan oscailt arís. Sin Jazzy Jeff & Fresh Prince le Boom! Shake The Room – an t-amhrán is mó ar an lá seo I 1993. Ag lean ar aghaidh le nuacht cheoil ar an lá seo I 1983 tharla comhdháil David Bowie I Londain. Bhí an méid is mó earraí David Bowie riamh ag an imeacht. I 2007 dhíol cheolchoirm The Spice Girls amach 38 soicind tar éis a chuaigh siad ar dhíol. Agus ar deireadh breithlá daoine cáiliúla ar an lá seo rugadh aisteoir agus amhránaí Julie Andrews sa Bhreatain I 1935 agus rugadh aisteoir Sarah Drew I Meiriceá ar an lá seo I 1980 agus seo chuid de na rudaí a rinne sí. Beidh mé ar ais libh amárach le heagrán nua de Ar An Lá Seo. Welcome back to another edition of Ar An Lá Seo on the 1st of October, with me Lauren Ní Loingsigh 1976: Parents and teachers were advised to check with publishers if they think they are being overcharged for school books. Overcharging could legally occur as there was no maximum price order fixed on school books. 1993: Gardai fear that a new and dangerous type of firecracker, capable of creaiting powerful explosions, were imported to Ireland andw ill be offered to kids in the run up to halloween. 2003 - Lowry announced was relinquishing his seat on North Tipperary County Council in order to comply with the abolition of the dual mandate. Sean Fogarty, Moyne. was selected to replace him on the County Council. 2010 - Almost seventy public houses in County Tipperary were looking like they would close permanently if they didn't renew their licences. Tipperary was the third-highest suffering rural county in the country and comes in sixth in the overall list. Many have already decided to fold up the tent and walk away from the industry. That was Jazzy Jeff & Fresh Prince with Boom! Shake The Room – the biggest song on this day in 1993 Onto music news on this day In 1983 A David Bowie world convention was held at The Cunard Hotel in London. The event had the largest collection of Bowie merchandise ever assembled. 2007 The Spice Girls London reunion concert sold out in 38 seconds after fans were notified tickets had gone on sale. And finally celebrity birthdays on this day – singer and actress Julie Andrews was born in the UK in 1935 and actress Sarah Drew was born in America on this day in 1980 and this is some of the stuff she has done. I'll be back with you tomorrow with another edition of Ar An Lá Seo.

“So tell me what you want, what you really, really want,” exclaimed the Spice Girls back in '96, and sadly, almost thirty years later, many of still us suddenly get shy when it comes to telling someone what we really, really want, especially when it comes to BDSM, D/S, and kink. Perhaps it is because we think those things we really, really want are so unique that others would not want them. We fill our minds with worry, wondering if we shared it, the answer would be “no”. Plus the fear that this no would also lead to possibly having the person we shared it with no longer see us as desirable. The truth is fetishes, sexual fantasies, and all things kinktastic that we might hesitate to share are shared by thousands who never speak about them. Discover just how common our naughty sides are, and next time you look around at your co-workers, you will be wondering which ones are into this too!

On this episode, Damian Cole sits down with Jamie Lewis and Drew Fleming from Kiki Lounge — the award-winning bar bringing tropical escapism to the windswept Isle of Man. The pair share how a pandemic pivot turned a small-island nightclub into one of the UK's most talked-about cocktail destinations, and why they chose to drop the word tiki in favour of something more authentic and inclusive. They talk origin stories, supply-chain nightmares, and the creative freedom that comes with isolation. With only 80 thousand residents and every delivery arriving by boat, Kiki's team have learned to plan months ahead, reuse everything, and turn scarcity into a design principle. From fermenting pineapple trim into milk punch to developing house “super-juice” for consistency, they prove sustainability can be both pragmatic and profitable.Jamie traces his path from McDonald's in Sheffield to running Bath & Bottle and opening his first pop-up in a hotel basement. Drew recalls starting as a 17-year-old glass-washer before discovering hospitality's addictive rhythm and rising to co-founder. Together they explain how Kiki Lounge began mid-COVID as a one-room experiment and evolved into a purpose-built venue mixing neon, pop culture, and tongue-in-cheek tropical style. The conversation dives deep into:Island hospitality: how intimacy, consistency, and humour define service in a close-knit community.Cultural awareness: moving beyond tiki stereotypes to celebrate joy and colour without caricature.Sustainability by necessity: waste-free prep, local-first sourcing, and ingredient life-cycles that make sense on a small island. The zine menu: an ever-changing printed magazine that educates guests (“What the **** is Kiki?”) and keeps the team inspired.Hospitality outside the glass: the energy, soundtrack, and sense of fun that make a night at Kiki feel like an event.Expect plenty of stories — from trading bar tabs for furniture in the early days to guest-shifts aboard the island's heritage steam train. They also name their dream Kiki soundtrack (Spice Girls, Anderson .Paak, Madonna), confess the most Isle-of-Man thing that's ever happened during service, and share their picks for overrated and underrated cocktails (spoiler: flavour-blaster bubbles out, 20th Century in).Key takeaways for bar owners and bartenders:You don't need a big city to build a world-class bar; you need a clear identity.Sustainability works best when it's built into the workflow, not bolted on for PR.Fun and professionalism can coexist — “we take what we do seriously, but not ourselves.”Print menus can educate, entertain, and evolve with your guests. Why it matters:Kiki Lounge has redefined what island hospitality can be — proving that creativity, community, and a little irony can turn 36 miles of rock in the Irish Sea into a global cocktail destination.Connect & Follow:Kiki Lounge @kikis.loungeJamie Lewis @jamielewislewisDrew Fleming @drewfleming00The Cocktail Academy @welovecocktails | @welovecocktailsxsayhello@thecocktailacademy.comIf you enjoyed this episode: share it with a hospitality friend, rate & review on Spotify or Apple Podcasts, and subscribe for weekly conversations with the bartenders, owners, and authors shaping modern cocktail culture. Escuchar audio

This week on the TV Gold podcast with Andrew Mercado and James Manning there are reviews of:King and Conqueror (SBS)The Chair Company (HBO Max)The Woman in Cabin 10 (Netflix movie)Victoria Beckham (Netflix) King and Conqueror (SBS On Demand, 8 episodes, two on launch and then weekly)King & Conqueror epic eight-part series was filmed in Iceland and features James Norton (Happy Valley) as Harold, Earl of Wessex, and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Game of Thrones) as William, Duke of Normandy, two allies with no designs on the British throne who find themselves forced by circumstance to take up arms against each other. The Chair Company (HBO Max, 8 episodes)Cringe comedy – not a genre we enjoy a lot. After an embarrassing incident at work, a man (Tim Robinson) finds himself investigating a far-reaching conspiracy. The embarrassing incident is a chair collapsing on him while onstage at a work function in front of a handful of people. The Woman in Cabin 10 (Netflix movie)While on a luxury yacht for a travel assignment, a journalist (Keira Knightly) witnesses a passenger tossed overboard late one night, only to be told that she must have dreamed it, as all passengers are accounted for. Despite not being believed by anyone onboard, she continues to look for answers, putting her own life in danger. Also co-stars Guy Pearce and Hannah Waddingham. No show has caused so much debate this year about the merits of this movie. Andrew and James both enjoyed it because it was all over in 90 minutes, but there’s not much else they agree on about this shipboard thriller. Victoria Beckham (Netflix, 3 episodes)A three-part documentary that follows Victoria Beckham's career, from her rise to fame as Posh Spice to her current status as a fashion designer and businesswoman. The docuseries was produced by Studio 99, the production company founded by her husband, David Beckham. It was made following the success of his own 2023 Netflix documentary, Beckham, which featured some of Victoria's own viral moments. Not a lot of insights about the Spice Girls, but a fascinating glimpse inside Victoria’s business empire.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Victoria Beckham’s new docu-series has landed, and while it teases bombshells, it mostly confirms what we thought we already knew. Amelia, Jessie and Holly dive into the nostalgia, the PR spin, and what we really learnt that made watching so uncomfortable.. Plus, Princess Kate Middleton has published an essay underlining our worst fears, that mobile phones are bad for us. But this isn't exactly new information, so why has it ruffled our feathers so much? Plus, comedian Julia Morris is calling for women-only seating on flights. Is it about safety, comfort—or something bigger? We open up the debate. And in the ‘things we didn’t expect to care about’ category: why not making your bed might actually be good for you, Jessie learns dust mites are not, in fact, akin to butterflies plus, the pelvic floor tip that’s weirdly simple—and weirdly effective. It covers her early days and the beginning of the Spice Girls and her pop star era, through to her 27 year relationship with David Beckham, and the meaty part of the doco - which is her love of fashion and just how much of a fashion business mogul she is. But before we get into Victoria Becks we celebrate the wonderful life of Diane Keaton who tragically passed away today at the age of 79. We love you Diane you absolute icon. Also apologies for our audio, we are trialling a new set up so just bear with us please! We will sort it out before next week. x__We would be forever grateful if you could follow us on TikTok @reality.notes.pod and Instagram @realitynotespod, or send us notes over at realitynotespod@gmail.comWe are a tiny independent podcast so please remember to subscribe, rate, comment and share with your loved ones

LOOK OUT! It's only Films To Be Buried With! A REWIND CLASSIC! Join your host Brett Goldstein as he talks life, death, love and the universe (again) with movie critic, writer, journalist and presenter MARK KERMODE! The RESURRECTION! Mark is always welcome on the podcast, and this Resurrection was a lovely return visit back in the days of 2022. So much life has happened in the interviening years, and also in listening back and giving it a little brush and polish, it became clear that some items may need a little explaining for newer listeners. So here's a quick list of things that might benefit some addressing: • Mark's current podcast is a movie (and film-adjacent TV) review show he co-hosts with Simon Mayo called 'Take', available in free with ads (1 weekly ep) / subscribe for a fee with no ads (2 weekly eps) models. • Referring to someone "Getting off their bike" about something, basically means ranting. • This was recorded before the White Lotus with Jason Isaacs in, and he gets a mention, but Mark went to school with him and he's a friend of all things Kermode podcast related. • The 'Linda' he makes reference to is his wife, Professor Linda Ruth Williams. • Up top he references 'Benjamin' and Simon Amstell. Mark had a brief cameo in the film Benjamin, directed by comic, host and writer Simon Amstell. Otherwise, we hear about Mark's ever-growing love for his family, the mechanics of rewatching films, the idea of writing being like a 'journal of record', the niceness of horror film folks (even Leatherface) and making films with love, and so much more awesome behind the scenes movie goodies. Very, very much worthy of your time even if you listened first time round, there's so much to catch that may have been missed first time. Oh and Jeremy is a really sweet film, which you'll have to acquaints yourself with if you want to be his friend (to quote the Spice Girls classic). Zig a zig ahh. Enjoy! In which The Curmudgeons wrap up their five-part lookback at the British rock of the 1990s. It was a decade that started with the demised of dance-rock and shoegazer scenes but then saw an absolute cultural revolution explode in their wake via Britpop. By the end of the decade, though, things were dying down a bit and bubblegum pop acts like Robbie Williams and The Spice Girls. Yet there was quite a lot of good Britpop-influenced rock emerging from the U.K. streets in 1998 and 1999. Bands like Belle and Sebastian and The Beta Band scored critical-carling status if not overwhelming commercial success. Bands like Coldplay and Muse, both of whom would dominate the next British decade, made their debut. And Britpop stalwarts Pulp and Blur were still hanging on and producing some grand tunes. We cover it with aplomb during this episode. Fáilte ar ais chuig eagrán nua de Ar An Lá Seo ar an 1ú lá de mí Dheireadh Fómhair, liomsa Lauren Ní Loingsigh. I 1976 thug daoine comhairle chuig múinteoirí agus tuismitheoirí chun seiceáil a dhéanamh leis na foilsitheoirí an raibh an praghas ró-ard do leabhair don scoil. Dúradh go raibh na foilsitheoirí ábalta an praghas a ardú go dleathach mar ní raibh aon phraghas socraithe ann. I 1993 tháinig na Gardaí amach ag rá go raibh pléascóg thine nua agus dainséarach ann agus go mbeadh pléasc mhór ann. Bhí siad iompórtáilte chuig an tír agus tháinig sé amach go mbeadh páistí ábalta iad a fháil roimh Oíche Shamhna. I 1982 bhí aiféala ann sa chontae de bharr go bhfuair iománaí a raibh 17 bliain d'aois bás ó Droichead Abhann Ó gCearnaigh. I 1993 chuaigh dornálaí ó Inis, Brian Crowley chuig an bhabhta ceathrú ceannais den chraobh na sóisear na hEorpa. Sin Jazzy Jeff & Fresh Prince le Boom! Bhí an méid is mó earraí David Bowie riamh ag an imeacht. I 2007 dhíol cheolchoirm The Spice Girls amach 38 soicind tar éis a chuaigh siad ar dhíol. Agus ar deireadh breithlá daoine cáiliúla ar an lá seo rugadh aisteoir agus amhránaí Julie Andrews sa Bhreatain I 1935 agus rugadh aisteoir Sarah Drew I Meiriceá ar an lá seo I 1980 agus seo chuid de na rudaí a rinne sí. Overcharging could legally occur as there was no maximum price order fixed on school books. 1993: Gardai fear that a new and dangerous type of firecracker, capable of creating powerful explosions, were imported to Ireland and will be offered to kids in the run up to Halloween. 1982: Widespread regret was caused in the south east clare area as a result of the death of a 17 year old sixmilebridge hurler. 1993: Ennis boxer Brian Crowley advanced to the quarter finals of the European junior championships. In this episode of the Mo News Podcast, producer Sari Soffer Sukenik sits down with Sophie Gilbert, staff writer at The Atlantic and author of her new book, Girl on Girl: How Pop Culture Turned a Generation of Women Against Themselves. Sophie reflects on the pop culture of the '90s and 2000s — the rom-com boom, the teen sex comedies, the rise of the “cool girl,” and the commercialization of “girl power” — and how these cultural touchstones shaped millennial women's self-image, relationships, and ambitions. The conversation ranges from Spice Girls to American Pie, from rom-com nostalgia to the cultural legacy of #MeToo, and from Janet Jackson's Superbowl wardrobe malfunction to Instagram's double-edged impact. Sophie argues for a more mindful relationship with the media we consume—and what it means to raise the next generation with awareness of how culture shapes us all.

Stop, slow down, take a deep breath, pop fans! Before you go Out of Your Mind, we can confirm that what you see is what you get. We are finally doing a whole episode dedicated to Victoria Beckham's solo debut era, which launched 25 years ago this year. Your not-so-innocent pop explorers Joel and David are kicking off in the summer of 2000 with the monumental cultural shift that was Vicky B's UK Garage collab with Truesteppers and Dane Bowers, 'Out of Your Mind'. The whirlwind media saga, a nail-biting chart battle with Sophie Ellis-Bextor and Spiller ('Groovejet'), and a string of outstanding live performances from Party In The Park in Hyde Park to MTV in Mallorca... this set the bar extremely high for Posh Spice's solo debut in a midst of duelling Solo Spice releases and an actual Spice Girls comeback on the horizon! The episode also dives into the underrated 2001 "Victoria Beckham" album. A classy pop and R&B body of work made with some of the world's best songwriters and producers; the album gave us the Top 10 singles 'Not Such An Innocent Girl' and 'A Mind of Its Own'. We revisit the album tracks, music videos, visuals, live performances (hello, G-A-Y), photo shoot and b-sides! We look back at this incredibly intense period in David and Victoria Beckham's public lives - with TV documentaries, Victoria's memoir "Learning To Fly" and more keeping the public, media and pop fans fed. Dare we say, this is the most thorough and celebratory podcast episode dedicated to VB's solo career!Follow Right Back At Ya!https://www.instagram.com/rightbackpod/https://twitter.com/rightbackpodhttps://www.facebook.com/rightbackpodFollow Joelhttps://www.instagram.com/dr_joelb/https://twitter.com/DR_JoelBFollow Davidhttps://www.instagram.com/lovelimmy/https://twitter.com/lovelimmyEmail us rightbackpod@gmail.comSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

To tell us how we can seize this moment, Nish and Coco are joined by leftwing royalty - Zarah Sultana MP and Bimini Bon-Boulash - live at the London Podcast Festival. Zarah shares why she feels liberated from Labour, has zero sympathy for Angela Rayner and zero tolerance for colleagues who don't agree on trans rights.
