Everything’s (not) Fine is a podcast for every mom, dad, and (dangerously close to) middle-aged person that is just tired of faking it when the proverbial shit hits the fan. Improperly Forward’s Keli Budinich and co-host Nicole Gonzalez dive into every-day topics with their hilarious wit and no BS candor. The trenches of adulting, parenting teens and somehow holding onto that last shred of our own identity is an emotionally exhausting and sometimes lonely place. At some point, we just need a little judgement-free help from our friends. Whether you’re squeezing in 30 minutes on the treadmill (god bless your soul,) escaping to the car during another rainy soccer practice or hiding out in the back of your closet with smuggled Twinkies, we’re here for you. Ground your kid from their AirPods so you can pop them in and get 30 minutes of sanity and maybe a little comic relief. We’re excited to tackle the tough topics like teen mental health and suicide, parenting kids with ADHD and learning disabilities, functioning with depression and rekindling a sexless marriage. In the midst of the hard stuff, there will be plenty of important chats about which Netflix shows to binge, how to break your husband from watching idiotic YouTube videos at full volume (we still don’t know. HELP) and why on earth did we think being a sports mom would be fun!? We might even have an expert or two on hand to give us some real answers to the hard stuff. We live in a world where our lives are on display pretty much all the time. Even if you’re not big into social media, people know your business more now than ever. There’s a lot of pressure to keep up appearances and sugar coat the crap. We’re here to say, you don’t have to do that anymore. It’s okay to stop everything, look Karen square in the eye and say “you know what? Everything is NOT fine. This shit is hard. So keep it to yourself, Karen.”Let’s do this.(Also, I’m really sorry if your name is Karen. I’m sure you’re actually lovely.)
In this episode, Kel talks about the highlights of what the podcast has given her these past three years and why she's calling this one her last one... It's bittersweet and I'm going to miss so many things, but I'm so ready to see what lies ahead both for me and whatever Nicole does with this show.

Nicole and Keli spent the weekend in the woods with their Coven! This episode covers some of the shenanigans that ensued along with some of the challenges Keli was feeling during the weekend. Listen in to hear about the quest to keep ourselves on the priority list and also the challenges in deepening the feminine bonds between us. If you're not into hearing us talk about line dancing at a good ol fashioned honkey tonk skip to about the 30 minute mark. Nicole and Keli chat about their favorite Glennon Doyle quote, "...there's no such thing as one way liberation," and all it means to them at this stage of life. Last week Kel turned 46 and celebrated in some unconventional ways. She shares why it was so important for her to do it and how this past year led to this point. Keli Budinich and Nicole Allen introduce the revamped show and return to the roots of this podcast: eavesdropping on friends as they discuss their lives and all the ways it's fine but also totally not fine and the beauty of just keeping it real.

It is our privilege to share the love story of one Mama and her LGBTQ kiddos. Mama Kait kindly invites our curiosity and bravely shares a bit of the story of her family's experiences in the LGBTQ community. Kait is the mom to eight children, thriving all over the spectrum of neurodivergence, medically complex, and just downright awesome. This episode is not one of political agenda, it's just an invitation to open your heart to curiosity and love. In the episode we discuss resources. A couple of places to get started are: PFLAG - A national is a community working to create a caring, just, and affirming world for LGBTQ+ people and those who love them. For WA residents: Seattle Children's Mental Health Referral Service - A resource for all Mental Health needs

Sometimes we draw a line to delineate a boundary - this is what I need/can't do for my personal health. And sometimes we draw a line saying "Nope. No more. I won't go on. I won't be vulnerable in this area. I'm good here no matter what. I will die on this hill." Nicole tells the story of an old friend who recently talked about that "not crossing this line of vulnerability" experience and how it played out in their life. Keli talks about her struggle with financial stubbornness and her recent decision to cross her imaginary line into more financial responsibility. The ladies also tell about their most recent "Coven Weekend" and what they were up to.

In this special episode, Keli shares a significant part of her story. During the past couple of years on the podcast, she has mentioned her estranged relationship with her mother, and today she shares how that decision evolved over time. She tells about when she realized that in order to have a healthy relationship with her own daughter, she would need to take a step back from her mother so they could both heal. It is a raw and vulnerable story that most people will relate to in some way, even if life circumstances are vastly different. Nicole provides incredible insight and support for her friend as she truly sees her right where she in her story. We are learning that the absolute gift of Being Seen in our relationships can be life changing. One of the most crucial areas of life that we can be seen in is motherhood. Whether that is being seen by our partner/co-parent, our children, fellow mothers... it all makes a huge impact. One of the most challenging things that has happened in the evolution of modern, western mothers is losing the Ethels to our Lucys. We dive into that and a lot more in this episode. Join Keli and Nicole as they tell hilarious (and painful!) stories of beauty treatments in the salon and at home that didn't go quite as expected. And while we're on the subject...An Open Letter to Women's Beauty Standards:What's up with these impossible things we women are expected to do for the sake of "beauty?" Wax this, curl that, shave these. What's so wrong with the hair god gave us anyway?? Whether we're adding to our eyebrows or removing our mustaches, it's a full time job just keeping up with self grooming, and not everyone is interested in this crap.So take your standards and shove them where the sun don't shine. We only shave what we WANT to shave now, and if you don't like it, you can just move on.
