Good Girls Get Rich Podcast

Welcome back to Good Girls Get Rich. I'm your host, Karen Yankovich, and today, I want you to really hear this: It is time for women to stop playing small. This episode is not just another conversation about business growth or personal branding. This is about power. This is about financial independence. And this is about finally stepping up and taking what is already meant for you. Women are still earning half a trillion dollars less than men for the same work. Let that sink in for a minute. It's an infuriating statistic, but here's the thing—I don't waste my energy being frustrated. Instead, I see it as half a trillion dollars in opportunity. It's time for more women to claim their share of that wealth and use it to create impact, build legacies, and change the world. But here's the hard truth: We are holding ourselves back. Too many women hesitate to charge what they're worth. Too many women wait until they check every box before applying for that leadership role or pitching themselves for that major opportunity. Too many women undervalue their expertise and downplay their skills. That stops today. What You'll Learn in This Episode: Why the wealth gap is really a power gap – and why women need to get comfortable with the idea of power How visibility equals opportunity – and why getting featured in the media, being active on LinkedIn, and leveraging PR are game-changers The real reason high-ticket offers are your fast track to financial freedom – and why it's actually easier to sell one $25,000 offer than ten $2,500 offers The magnetic power of personal branding – and how to position yourself as the go-to expert in your industry How to step into a wealth mindset in 2025 – and finally break free from the cycles of burnout, undercharging, and second-guessing The Visibility Factor: Why You Need to Be Seen to Be Hired One of the biggest challenges I see among brilliant, successful women is their lack of visibility. They are experts, leaders, and thought pioneers, but no one knows who they are. And in today's world, if people don't see you, they can't hire you. Think about the most influential people in your industry. Chances are, you've seen them in Forbes, Entrepreneur, on top podcasts, or speaking on major stages. That didn't happen by accident. They positioned themselves for those opportunities. They put themselves in rooms where their expertise was recognized. I've had clients land six-figure consulting deals just from a single podcast interview because that interview positioned them as the go-to expert in their field. I've seen women struggling to attract clients suddenly start closing $20,000 deals because a media feature gave them credibility. I've had my own business explode from the power of visibility and credibility. And here's the key: It's not about being more qualified. It's about being seen. You already have the expertise. Now, it's time to make sure the right people know about it. The Truth About High-Ticket Offers and Why You Need One Another major shift women need to make is elevating their pricing and positioning. Selling low-cost services or charging hourly rates keeps you stuck in a cycle of exhaustion. The reality is, it is no harder to sell a $25,000 offer than it is to sell ten $2,500 offers. In fact, it's often easier. When you position yourself at a premium level, you attract clients who immediately see your value. You stop convincing people to hire you and start stepping into a space where people already trust your expertise and are willing to invest in it. And let's be clear: This is not about overcharging. This is about creating an offer that massively over-delivers on value. I live by a simple rule in my business: If I charge someone $1, I need to know that the value they're getting is worth at least $10. If I charge $1,000, I need to know they'll walk away with at least $10,000 in impact. If I charge $100,000, I need to know they'll gain a million dollars in value from it. This is the mindset shift that will take you from struggling to thriving. It's Time to Step Into the Wealth You Deserve If you are feeling that pull inside of you—the knowing that you are meant for more—this is your sign to step up. We are in a world where the only thing we can truly count on is ourselves. If you're not making the kind of money that will change your life and your family's future, it's time to change the way you approach visibility, authority, and pricing. That's why I created She's LinkedUp – Reignite & Rise Up. This program is built for women who are ready to be seen, respected, and paid like the experts they are. The doors are officially open, and if you're ready to take that next step, here's what to do next: DM me “READY” on LinkedIn or Instagram. Let's have a conversation about how you can finally break through and start making more money with ease. Check out the program details at She's LinkedUp. This new version is the most powerful we've ever created, and I can't wait for you to experience it. Share this episode with a woman who needs to hear it. If this resonated with you, chances are you know someone else who needs this wake-up call too. If you tag me when you share it, I'll make sure to amplify your voice and get you more visibility in the process. Because that's how we rise—together. This is your time. This is your year. Let's make 2025 the year you finally claim the wealth, influence, and impact you deserve. I'll see you on the inside.   Magical Quotes From the Episode: "Women are still earning half a trillion dollars less than men for the same work. But instead of getting frustrated, I see that as half a trillion dollars in opportunity. It's time to claim our share." – Karen Yankovich "If people don't see you, they can't hire you. Visibility isn't about ego—it's about positioning yourself for the opportunities that will change your life." – Karen Yankovich "It is no harder to sell a $25,000 offer than it is to sell ten $2,500 offers. When you elevate your pricing and positioning, you attract clients who already see your value." – Karen Yankovich "Women hesitate to use the word ‘power,' but here's the truth—when we have wealth, we have influence. And when women have influence, the world changes for the better." – Karen Yankovich

927: LEADERSHIP STRATEGIES: 6 Steps to Be More Seen as a Woman Leader

"I see you pulling a Beyoncé here,” I said to my client who was really tapping into her own inner Bey.   I'm referring to how Beyoncé broke the mold and rewrote the rules for herself—without anyone's invitation or permission—to win her recent Grammy for Album of the Year. I saw the same thing with this client: breaking the mold and rewriting the rules for herself, without waiting for anyone's invitation or permission. In fact, a number of the women leaders I work with are doing incredible work to figure out how to create new leadership opportunities for themselves because old-school systems and structures have kept them confined in their current roles for far too long.  In the work I'm doing with these women leaders, there are a few key steps I designed for them to take as part of a larger leadership growth strategy.  These are steps anyone can take when they are ready to forge a new path in leadership development - without waiting for an invitation or permission: 1. Define your top 5 leadership values. 2. Actively embrace your leadership values to amplify your leadership brand. 3. Advance your thought leadership to think more expansively about what is possible outside of your current role. 4. Identify opportunities to BE SEEN in places and spaces outside your current role. 5. Start making connections with leaders who openly embrace the same leadership values you do. 6. Position yourself for invitations to show up as a subject matter expert in your field. This is how Beyonce was able to rewrite the rules and forge a new path to her Grammy success – and how you can do the same thing. In this episode, I share with you exactly how to integrate these strategic steps into your current work.  When you are stuck inside a system that doesn't work for you, it can be really challenging to see outside of the system. There are often multiple concentric circles of power (if not systems of oppression) that put a massive buffer between you and new opportunities. To cut through the junk (old school systems), you must take strategic steps over time to circumvent the systems that are holding you back. Of course, you can do this with a coach (Hi, that's me!). Or, you can start on your own by following the steps above to channel YOUR inner Beyoncé! Not only am I kicking off Black History Month by celebrating an incredible woman leader, but I also get to shine a spotlight on one of my clients—the phenomenal Summa Simmons. Summa is the Associate Vice President of Treasury at Victoria's Secret & Co., where she makes sure the company's financial strategies align with its growth and success. But here's what I love most about her: She didn't just climb the corporate ladder—she built her own leadership brand, put herself out there, and created opportunities where there weren't any before. And now? She's stepping fully into her voice, owning her impact, and helping other women do the same. On this episode of Women Changing Leadership with Stacy Mayer, Summa is breaking down the three pillars of success that transformed her career, the mindset shifts that helped her go from behind the scenes to thought leader, and why branding yourself as a leader isn't about demanding more—it's about showing up like someone people already assume is getting promoted. We also get into what it's really like to navigate leadership as a Black woman, why documenting your impact is everything, and how to make career moves that actually feel good to you (not just what you think you should do).Unlock the missing piece in your leadership development. Do you ever feel like you're doing so much for everyone in your life—managing relationships, fixing problems, carrying the emotional load—only to end up completely burned out? Today, I sit down with the incredible Terri Cole, psychotherapist and author of Boundary Boss, to uncover why so many of us fall into this cycle and, most importantly, how to break free.  Terri dives deep into what high-functioning codependency really looks like, and trust me, it's not the old-school definition you might have in mind. This conversation hit home for me in a big way, and I got super vulnerable about my own recovery journey. Are you finding it harder and harder these days to stick to your boundaries? Whether it's a lack of physical space at your house (hello, homeschooling)… or a lack of breathing room and space in your calendar, causing you to overwork, strive, and feel flustered with it all. Or maybe it's a Boundary Destroyer in your life, which is a whole other ball of wax.   My all-star special guest today is psychotherapist Terri Cole and she's simplifying how to stick to your boundaries. In her book, Boundary Boss: The Essential Guide to Talk True, Be Seen, and (Finally) Live Free is a must-read for me and so many girlfriends of mine as we are looking to break free from the nonsense. And more importantly, live a more authentic, fulfilled life by mastering how we create and maintain healthy boundaries. Here's how.  My all-star special guest today is Terri Cole and she's simplifying how to stick to your boundaries. We tackle and simplify all aspects of it, including: Through her research, what she found are some common myths that women believe when setting boundaries  What the psychological aspect is behind why we DON'T set boundaries for ourselves? What's happening, really? How to understand what your internal ‘Boundary Blueprint' is and how to communicate our desired (more positive) boundaries are to other people In a work setting, what to do if you're afraid you'll be seen as a “bitch” or if you fear being fired by your client after you state your boundaries And ultimately, at home… what you must do when it's a family member (a parent, spouse or child) who you cannot remove from your life entirely and you're having to constantly state and restate your boundaries all the time? Terri is a brilliant bright light in this field of study and she's going to show us a better way of sticking to our boundaries. In our conversation today, you'll gain a glimmer into her work, teaching each of us how to stop abandoning ourselves for the sake of others without guilt or drama. But rather, she shows us a way that healthy boundaries can help us gain better communication and better relationships… more satisfaction, abundance, and success. All of it is a result of doing the work, gaining clarity on our subconscious beliefs, and sticking to our boundaries. Q: Are you ready to learn how to stick to your boundaries better? If yes, this one is for you. It's time to #DoTheThing! ---- Show notes available with all links mentioned here:https://www.thesimplifiers.com/posts/369-how-to-stick-to-your-boundaries---with-terri-cole-all-star

What an episode we have for you today, listeners. Today on the show we have the phenomenal Terri Cole, whose work about boundaries I have so resonated with in the past. She has a new book out on October 15 called Too Much: A Guide to Breaking the Cycle of High-Functioning Codependency, and it examines what we thought we knew about codependency. We have had the godmother of codependency, Melody Beattie, on the show, and Melody introduced the concept to the world. Now, in Too Much, Terri is taking the concept to the next level, introducing us to high-functioning codependency. In today's conversation we define what high-functioning codependency, or HFC, is, what it looks like, some common behaviors exhibited by those who have it, and how those with HFC got to this place. You also might have heard this called “overfunctioning.” You'll hear me say this many times throughout this episode, but I identify as a recovering HFC, and Terri writes that these behaviors are “highly programmed and largely unconscious.” Terri, too, is a recovering HFC, and writes in Too Much that “prioritizing the wants, needs, and outcomes of others over my own well-being was my default setting.” She talks about the moment she knew she couldn't go on this way, and the book is a deeply personal one to her. We also talk about how we draw the line from being caring and a high-functioning codependent — and when we know, as the book's title suggests, that it's too much. By the way, when it comes to romantic relationships, codependents are attracted to narcissists, and the reverse is true, as well. The book talks about how we can prevent this deeply unhealthy combination. In our conversation today, we talk about the cost to a life if one doesn't address their high-functioning codependency, and how the key to getting to the other side is boundaries. Now, Terri is an expert in boundaries; her book prior to Too Much, which I also highly recommend, is called Boundary Boss: The Essential Guide to Talk True, Be Seen, and (Finally) Live Free. I do think it's important to note that reversing high-functioning codependency is absolutely possible, but it isn't a linear path or a straight line, and that those working through this should expect setbacks. You know what? People could probably live their whole lives with high-functioning codependency, but because of Terri's book, they won't want to, and they don't have to. Terri Cole, MSW, LCSW, is a licensed psychotherapist and global relationship and empowerment expert and has been doing this work for over 25 years. She is the host of a podcast I love, “The Terri Cole Show,” and inspires over 600,000 people weekly. She has a deep gift for making complex psychological concepts actionable and accessible so that clients achieve sustainable change. This conversation with Terri meant a lot to me, and I bet it will to you, too. Does your signature reveal anything about you? Does it send a message to those who see it? I start this episode by sharing some insight into how others may make assumptions about you based on how you sign your name. https://graciousliving.typepad.com/the_write_event/2003/11/what_does_your_.html One reason to spend money is to buy things that make you feel good – and happy. But does a fancier car or another pair of shoes really make you happy? Usually not. After a while, that fancy car is just your car and that pair of shoes you had to have just sit in the closet with all the others. Maybe, if we were more deliberate about what we choose to spend money on, it might really make an impact on our overall happiness. That seems to be the case according to research by my guest Michael Norton who has been investigating how and why people spend their money and what it does and doesn't do for them. Michael is a professor at Harvard Business school and author of the book Happy Money: The Science of Happier Spending (https://amzn.to/3iFzDOq) It can be difficult to set boundaries that other people honor. But if you don't set boundaries people can take advantage of you and make you feel resentful. So how do you create boundaries people will respect while not being perceived as cold and inflexible? Joining me with some really great advice on this is Terri Cole. She is a licensed therapist, relationship expert and author of the book Boundary Boss: The Essential Guide to Talk True, Be Seen, and (Finally) Live Free (https://amzn.to/3AhKXwz).
