This episode is me trying to figure out what it really means to belong, especially in a world that rewards performance and perfection. I talk about loneliness (the quiet kind that sneaks up on you even when you’re surrounded by people), the difference between being visible and being known, and why showing up for yourself, flaws and all, is the real act of connection. There’s some philosophy (Simone Weil, Viktor Frankl, Kierkegaard, you know… casual), some internet culture unpacking, and a Tamagotchi that desperately needs discipline in the middle of it all. If you’ve been feeling kind of off, kind of disconnected, or just want to feel a little less alone in the mess of figuring it all out: this one’s for you. Thanks for being here. In this special bonus episode I casually share the unfiltered truth about my ongoing battle with consistency. From the highs that kept me going to the lows that usually made me give up, I'll lay it all out there. This episode is a fun hang out where I share how I am no longer identifying as the girl who is consistently inconsistent, but rather simply the girl I want to know myself as: consistent. This concept has been an eye opener for me in how I show up for my family, friends, work, and relaxation. We aren't guaranteed ANYTHING in life except for the moment now and eventual death. This doesn't give us permission to throw everything away because you could die tomorrow, although if that's what you choose to do that's on you! But what it does do is give us permission to enjoy our lives right now as it is. That's so powerful and I am thankful for the opportunity to bounce that idea off you and into the ether! I interviewed my mom for this week's Gold Medal Mindset Podcast episode. Many people asked me why I chose to interview my mom, how did this fit into my brand? Uhhhh to me it's a no-brainer. She had not only an inside view into the hardest parts of my journey, but she was a major force in getting me to where I am today. Lemme tell ya something about my mama. She is the force behind the person I am today. She is a badass and she is opening up to share her heart, her truth, and her story of my battle through cancer. In this episode, we talk about what little Brenna was like growing up, what her perspective of my cancer diagnosis, amputation, and life ending journey was like. We dive into what she relied on so she could be strong for me, what it took to uproot her life to move to Utah so she could support my snowboarding dreams, and the lessons she learned during the journey. This episode is heavy. My mom endured, in my opinion, one of the hardest things a person can go through seeing your child sick with cancer. I am so honored to have the opportunity to share her story, for the first time ever. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/brenna-huckaby/support

I (Brenna Huckaby) have never shared my mental health journey from the Paralympics (where I won2 gold medals) like this before (completely unfiltered). I live in a bubble where everyone in my circle is very open with their mental struggles, so I forget there are people who still stigmatize and mystify mental illness. That is not something I want to endorse on my platform. So I am sharing one part of my mental health journey. I have been open with my struggles from depression during cancer and amputation, postpartum anxiety, and other situational mental battles, but what makes this story unique to me is I was struggling during the mot "successful" time of the athletic career. You cant judge a book by its cover. Thank you for holding space today. You are not alone in your struggles. I encourage you to seek help and support and know that so so so many people have been where you are and see the other side. You're worthy, capable, and deserving. Thank you to those who shared before me, and I'm proud of those who share after me. May is mental health awareness month. Why did I choose to jump into the mindset arena? I realized yesterday that I had never shared why or how I decided to switch gears into the mindset space. To me it's a no-brainer because I share my thoughts, feelings, and thinking with my friends and family.. well pretty much anyone who will listen... but I've noticed that there is a gap between my “real” life and my “virtual” life. I haven't been sharing my reasonings, my why, and my purpose for switching focus, so let's do that today. After the Paralympics, I became obsessed with understanding what makes people resilient, empowered, and constantly achieving. I wanted to know what it was exactly that made people grow. I firmly believe that no one is special. I don't believe that anybody is unique, I believe they just have different tools and ways of using those tools to develop and strengthen themselves to work at a higher level. During this time I found the benefits of mindset work and the benefits of working through limiting beliefs. I discovered the benefits of mindfulness, meditation, wellness, spirituality and all of these buzzwords in today's world. I finally had a way to put words to what I had been doing my entire life. The reason I'm sharing this with you guys is because just like I had said before, who am I to hoard this information? Who am I to take what I've learned and only use it for myself? I believe in this process, I believe in the power of mindset, mindfulness, and a wellness lifestyle; so who am I to not share it and to teach people to do the same within their own life? I believe in a lot of ways, sports gave me a privilege and the leg up (hehe) in this world and I want to share those tools with everyone. I want you to have the ability to implement the same in your life. I do want to pause here to acknowledge that I had to do a lot of healing before I could solely focus on this work. I had to heal my childhood, from cancer, and other trauma. I had to do a lot of healing before I could get to a place of empowerment in my mindset, so if you were dealing with trauma I highly recommend seeking a psychologist or psychiatrist to help you with your trauma. Now, if you are just having negative thoughts, negative beliefs, and negative patterns and you're struggling to get out of it, this is where limiting belief work can really be beneficial to you. I am excited to share with you all I have learned about what it takes to be and stay a high achiever, how to avoid burnout, strive for greatness and growth when things are hard, and how to see yourself through the lens of confidence and not the lens of lack. I look forward to showing you the benefits of mindset work, meditation, and wellness practices. I firmly believe that we all have the potential to be at the top of the podium in our goals. I firmly believe that we all have the potential to live a life of peace, love, and happiness. I am tired of seeing so many people waiting for the bad things that happen in life to show them what they're capable of. You don't have to wait for the pain to start practicing and implementing these tools that will help you move through the experience. You can start living a life worth fighting for now. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/brenna-huckaby/support
Parent guilt is unnecessary, but so so so many of us struggle with it. Your children benefit from seeing you working outside the home, from being in daycare or with a babysitter, and from you taking care of yourself financially, emotionally, and physically. Being guilty for taking care of yourself and family does nothing for yourself nor your children, it only causes pain. In this episode I share tools I used to get out of feeling guilty for travel .The mindset shift I use on the road and how you can apply it to your life as well. SMART Goal series, T. for timely. We are diving into the reason to set SMART goals. I used to absolutely HATE SMART goals, but that was before I understood the science behind them. I have had a fascination for the mind for as long as I can remember. So much so, I have undergone my NLP (Neuro linguistic programming) certification and I am currently getting my EFT tapping certification as well. In NLP, the conscious mind is known as the goal setter, and the subconscious is known as the goal getter, which is why it's important to set goals for your subconscious mind to take over the task of mapping out how to achieve your goals. This week we are learning about the T in SMART goals. The T stands for TIMELY. In order to have the motivation for your goal, you have to set a date to accomplish your goal by. This keeps you in constant pursuit for your goals. Last week, we learned about the R which is realistic. This used to be a personal struggle for me. As an amputee I have been limited by so many people. All of my goals have been deemed unrealistic by one person or another, which is why this episode is so important to me. I share with you my process for designing REALISTIC goals and how you can use this in your life, too. During this season, we talked about the M in the SMART goal stands for MEASURABLE. How are you documenting your progress? Are you setting sub goals? Are you relying on emotional feedback? Are you tracking your progress at all? It is incredibly important to be in tune with how you're feeling during your goal achieving process. To avoid burnout and fear of failure it's always a good idea to have a method to stay on track and a method to celebrate your wins and successes. This is especially important in those long term, hard to reach goals. In this episode I share the specific tools I use to document my goal setting progress. The episode before M, we talked about S( SPECIFIC) we talked about about how you can't run a race without a finish line, just like you can't achieve your dreams without a goal. Your goal needs to be so specific you can imagine yourself in the future moment achieving your goal. You know what it looks, feels, smells, and sounds like. You've already experienced it in your mind time and time again so that the act of achieving your goal is easy peasy. Here's The thing: your mind doesn't know the difference between a visualization and reality. You can actually train your mind into thinking it has already achieved your goal before... How cool is that? The nightly journal prompt: I am a firm believer in EFFECTIVE goal setting that aligns with your heart, purpose, and passion. This may take lots of self reflection to master, but I AM HERE to help you begin the process.
