Erica started High Five Ceramics just over a year ago and in her first year in business, she went from “brand new” to booked out fast. She hit her revenue goal, booked 560 appointments and was highly visible in her community through pop-up shops and markets. This created the kind of local demand that forced her to hire help and expand her space sooner than she expected. In this episode, Erica breaks down what actually drove that momentum (spoiler: it wasn't doing it alone), and the behind-the-scenes lessons that helped her grow fast without burning out.In this episode you'll learn:How Erica managed the fear of growing too fast and the simple ways she controls demand locally so her calendar stays full without becoming overwhelmed. The collaboration strategy that helped her tap into other local businesses' audiences and get seen by thousands of people in her city. The market learning curve that took her from zero sales at her first market to booking 40 appointments... plus what she changed in her setup, messaging, and offer to make events actually convert.Mentioned in this episode:Work with me inside The Localpreneur AcademyFollow me on Instagram @lesliepresnallDownload my Free Guide: How To Grow Your Local Instagram FollowingFollow Erica on Instagram at @highfive_ceramics and Facebook at High Five CeramicsVisit High Five Ceramics' WebsiteIf you're ready to grow your local business and bring in a steady stream of clients, you need to check out The Localpreneur Academy. #784 Show Notes: https://wetflyswing.com/784 Presented By: Mountain Waters Resort, FishHound Expeditions, Pescador on the Fly Sponsors: https://wetflyswing.com/sponsors Today's guest takes us where technology meets the river. By the end of this episode, you'll walk away with fresh tools and inspiration for planning your next fly fishing adventure. You'll find out what big species you can find in the bays of California and why the Hoi kayak is a must-have if you're heading down there. You're also going to get a few tips on fishing the Golden Trout wilderness, and what you can do if you're planning a trip down in that area. He knows it very well. Plus, we're going to find out what good AI and what bad AI looks like in the outdoors, coming from the man who's creating it. A very interesting conversation. So let's get this one going. Dive into a one-of-a-kind episode this week as I sit down with software industry leader and passionate fly fisherman, Tim Huckaby. Tim's career has led him to work with tech giants like Microsoft and hop on stage with legends like Bill Gates and Steve Ballmer, but it's his adventures on the river and in the wild that truly inspire him. Facebook Twitter Instagram Love the show? Subscribe, rate, review, and share! Sign up for my Newsletter HERE I'd love to hear your feedback about the show! You can contact me here: rick@ricksaez.com Show Notes What Happened: I didn't mean to create a world-famous fly. Honestly, I just wanted something that wouldn't fall apart mid-float. It started with a cheat. I jacked a foam-folding technique from Charlie Craven (legendary fly tier) and started riffing. I was fishing the Upper Kern, and those trout were demolishing grasshoppers. Like full-on buffet mode. So I tied up something massive—ugly from the top, perfect from below—and boom. The Kern River rainbows went nuts. I named it the Huck Hopper. Fast forward a few years: I'm fishing around the world. Behind guides' backs, I quietly swap in my Frankenfly. Next thing you know, they're demanding to know what it is. And I'm FedExing Huck Hoppers at 3 a.m. because some poor guy “needs ‘em for Patagonia.” I even spun up an e-comm site. “Nobody will buy them,” I thought. Wrong. Principle: Sometimes, what sets you apart isn't how polished your idea is—it's how deeply it solves a problem only insiders truly understand. Real traction often comes from obsession and imperfection—not slick branding or mass appeal. Transition: A lot of outdoor entrepreneurs and creators make the same mistake I almost did: thinking your thing has to be perfect or pretty before it's worth sharing. Or worse—waiting for permission. The truth? Your “ugly” prototype might be someone else's holy grail. That's why so many talented people stall out: they're waiting to be validated, to be “ready,” or for some guru to give them the green light. That's Why: That's why we brought Tim Huckabee onto the podcast—he's proof that your passion project doesn't have to be fancy to make waves. Whether you're into fly fishing, side-hustling, or building gear people actually want, this episode shows how relentless curiosity, a bit of rebellion, and a lot of river time can create something unforgettable. Call to Action (PAS-style): If you've been second-guessing your scrappy idea, overthinking every detail, or stuck in “not good enough” mode—this one's for you. Listen now to hear how Tim turned a back-of-the-boat experiment into a globally loved gear essential. Follow up with Tim: https://www.timhuckaby.com/

Detroit might be synonymous with techno, but it also has a rich house tradition. And Rick Wade—FKA Big Daddy Rick—is one of Detroit house's key players. Along with the likes of Keith Worthy, Theo Parrish and the late Mike Huckaby (who Wade had a lifelong friendship and friendly rivalry with), he created a hybrid sound that is both techno and house, effortlessly soulful, sculpted and glowing—and Midwest to the core. As Tajh Morris said in a retrospective review of one of his classic records, "growing up in Buchanan, Michigan, meant that Wade was much closer to Chicago than he was to Detroit." Many of Wade's best records were released on Harmonie Park, his era-defining label that also featured plenty of work from Huckaby. Those EPs still sound fresh and timeless today, qualities that extend to Wade's RA Podcast, which features 90 minutes of smooth-as-butter house old and new. Over the years he's kept the flame burning for the smouldering sounds of Detroit house, working in sounds from younger producers like Folamour along the way. Enjoy listening to a master at work. @rick-wade Read more at https://ra.co/podcast/923
This week, I will be interviewing a representative from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers about volunteer opportunities to work near Tulsa, Okla. Tanner Huckaby is natural resources specialist for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. It's a job he has held for three years. Tanner works at the Keystone Lake project, just west of Tulsa. It is a sprawling lake spanning 26,000 water acres, and is well known for fishing. He is looking for a variety of volunteers who like working outdoors to help with beautification and improvement projects. They do things like make garden beds, help maintain trails and even install fish habitats in addition to routine work, like picking up trash and trimming trees. Army Corp of Engineers projects are a hidden gem in the outdoor recreation industry. The parks are always beautiful and often built on or near lakes and rivers, which makes a plethora of outdoor recreation opportunities possible. The Keystone Lake project is no different. In fact, that U.S. Army Corps of Engineers district also includes Heyburn Lake and Arcadia Lake as well. Tanner said Keystone Lake emphasizes the quality of campsites over quantity. It is something I have witnessed at U.S. Army Corps of Engineers campgrounds I have visited. A unique aspect of volunteering at the Keystone Lake project is that work schedules are completely flexible. Workampers commit to volunteering 24 hours a week in exchange for a free full-hookup RV site. But, they can determine how and when they schedule those hours. They can work a few hours every day, or pack all the hours in over a few days in order to have more time to explore the region. Another unique thing about Keystone Lake is the project contracts with third-party companies to clean the bathrooms and mow the grass, which means Workampers don't do that. There are not many administrative jobs for volunteers to do at the project, so Tanner wants people to know they will be involved in activities to enhance the quality and beauty of the project. Tanner said Workampers can commit to volunteering for a few weeks, a few months, an entire season or all year, if they wish. The project accepts singles, couples and families. He would like to work with volunteers who have integrity and a good work ethic. There is plenty to do in that area. Tulsa is only a few minutes away, and Oklahoma City is about 90 minutes away. The project is located four hours from Dallas, and about three hours from Springfield, Mo., and 90 minutes from Arkansas. Visitors can still enjoy remnants of the original Route 66, and scenic beauty is prevalent in the area. That means there is plenty of opportunity for hiking and biking in addition to visiting museums and many state parks. For more information on the project, people can visit the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers website or call Tanner directly at 918-340-9754. The project also has a page on Facebook at www.facebook.com/usacetulsa. Today's episode is brought to you by the featured employers at Workamper.com. These Workamper employers have taken an extra step to share some photos and detailed information about their Workamper programs. Opportunities exist for solos, couples and families, whether they are full-time, part-time, seasonal and even long-term jobs. Some are income opportunities and others involve volunteering at locations throughout the United States. Go to workamper.com/fe to meet the featured employers today. Employers who are seeking to hire Workampers can learn about the benefits of year-round recruiting by becoming a featured employer. More information about featured employers is available at workamper.com/fedetails. That's all I have for this week's show. Please tune in again next week for another fun interview. Thanks for listening to the Workamper Show.
There are not many administrative jobs for volunteers to do at the project, so Tanner wants people to know they will be involved in activities to enhance the quality and beauty of the project.

I want to understand, meet people, see them for what they really are, and get rid of these stories. Because part of the performance is that you're trying to fit into a story, and you're writing both of them. You're just in this misery cycle.” – Dr Cassie Huckaby “What's going to change this for you? Do you have what it takes? Do you have that grit? Maybe in you to start taking a step in the direction even if the whole world says it's not the right way to go.” – Dr Cassie Huckaby “It's the most beautiful cosmic dance in the most beautiful romance. If we could only acknowledge it. Even just with the creation of human life. It is so absolutely mindblowing-ly magnificent.” – Dr Cassie Huckaby Key Takeaways: Don't wait for the time when you can no longer see, hear, and function as a human before opening your heart and mind to things that people had led you to believe are untrue. Assess your stories every single day. Re-assess what you do because we are in a confused world without a streamlined action. Everyone is confused and overwhelmed. You don't want to be in a misery cycle—trying to fit in a story supposed to be written by other people and insert your own perspective in that story. Living our life to the fullest potential allows us to be the “magic bullet” for ourselves and others. Highlights/Timeline: [8:34] – How did Dr Cassie's healing journey go through? [21:50] – Is there a catalyst that led Dr Cassie to where she is today? [29:34] – The time Dr Cassie realized she needed change [41:11] – Dr Cassie shares her frustrations towards people who propagate sham solutions to people who genuinely seek help [46:57] – Dr Cassie's desire to explore the world of the unseen as a health practitioner [52:55] – Why did Dr Cassie's purpose shift? [58:13] – Dr Cassie expresses her awe at the beauty of life [1:03:54] – What does Dr Cassie compel you to do? Conclusion: Life might be finite, but discovering its mysteries is infinite. Dr Cassie believes that life must be lived to its fullest potential, but with the current state of the world, people are living a life of frustration, misery, and confusion. Trying to fit yourself in a narrative where you don't belong, to satisfy your craving of being recognized, is a huge disservice to what life has to offer. Dr Cassie believes that living your life with grit, persistence, and authenticity is the starting point of becoming a healing influence on others. I Like Your Work: Conversations with Artists, Curators & Collectors
Texas based photographer and artist Letitia Huckaby joins me today to talk about her multimedia artwork that combines both photography and textiles to depict family narratives and African American history. Letitia Huckaby has a degree in Journalism from the University of Oklahoma, a BFA from the Art Institute of Boston in photography and her Master's degree from the University of North Texas in Denton. Huckaby has exhibited as an emerging artist at Phillips New York, the Tyler Museum of Art, The Studio School of Harlem, Renaissance Fine Art in Harlem curated by Deborah Willis, PhD, The McKenna Museum in New Orleans, the Camden Palace Hotel in Cork City, Ireland, and the Texas Biennial at Blue Star Contemporary Art Museum. Her work is included in several prestigious collections; the Library of Congress, the McNay Art Museum, the Art Museum of Southeast Texas, the Brandywine Workshop in Philadelphia, and the Samella Lewis Contemporary Art Collection at Scripps College in Claremont, California. Huckaby was a featured artist in MAP2020: The Further We Roll, The More We Gain at the Amon Carter Museum and State of the Art 2020 at Crystal Bridges Museum. Ms. Huckaby was a Fall 2020 Art Pace Artist in Residence and is represented by the Talley Dunn Gallery in Dallas. Ms. Huckaby is the Co-Founder of Kinfolk House, a collaborative project space that inhabits a 100-year-old historic home, where community and art converge in the predominantly Black and Latina/e/o neighborhood of Polytechnic in Fort Worth, Texas and she is Texas Artist of the Year 2022. “This project documents two residential blocks. One block is located in Tulsa, Oklahoma on Haskell Place in a neighborhood adjoining historic Greenwood. The 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre desecrated the Greenwood neighborhood—one of the most prosperous African American communities in the early 20th century. The other residential block is located on St. Charles Street in the town of Greenwood, Mississippi—the namesake of the district in Tulsa and the birthplace of my father. For this project I traveled to both locations, documented these city blocks, and framed them together as a way to visually tie the two locations together. The images are printed onto cotton fabric and framed in embroidery hoops hinged together, to speak to the bifold frames people displayed of loved ones in their homes. At its most basic level, this project is about home and connectedness. The work speaks to the desire for a people to build a home of their own, the struggles that hinder the “American Dream” for far too many of its citizens, and a present nostalgia (living in a state that is linked heavily to the past).” LINKS: www.huckabystudios.com Instagram: @Huckabystudios https://talleydunn.com/project/letitia-huckaby/ Sponsors: https://www.artworkarchive.com/ilikeyourwork https://www.sunlighttax.com/ilyw Artist Shoutout: Lauren Cross https://www.laurenecross.com Dornith Doherty https://www.dornithdoherty.com I Like Your Work Links: Submit Your Work Check out our Catalogs! Episode 13. Your Life Is Your Medicine. In this episode, I had the pleasure of chatting with Dr. Huckaby about her hard-earned philosophy and belief that your life is your medicine. She also points out the simple and undeniable truth that your body is always healing. I hope you enjoy our conversation. I resonate with her views of our amazing human body, as I have experienced firsthand my life as my medicine. A lot of my medicine was not adding in but simplifying and stopping behaviors that interfered with my body's ability to do the work it was already doing- healing. You can learn more about Dr. Cassie Huckaby here: gritnaturalmedicine.comConnect with Unique on Instagram - IG: @uniquehammondWork with Uniquehttps://www.youregreat.com/oneonone-consultsThe Bean Protocol -E-course - https://www.youregreat.com/the-bean-protocol
