A few recent media pieces have us wondering if the GLP-1 backlash is finally beginning, and if so, why is all of the coverage still so anti-fat?VirginiaWe're going to use two primary texts for this conversation, but I also want us to talk more generally about how we're seeing the conversation shift, because I feel like there's been an amorphous shift.CorinneI think the initial craze has died down and we're starting to see a more nuanced conversation.VirginiaWhich in many ways is good. There's more nuance on both sides, but there's still a lot of harm being done in the way the media is framing this conversation.CorinneFor sure. VirginiaExhibit A on that front is a piece by Dani Blum that ran on January 15 in the New York Times. The headline is The Hard Truth of Weight-Loss Drugs: You Probably Need Them Forever. Corinne what is your immediate first reaction to that headline?CorinneNo shit, Sherlock. Why were people confused about this?VirginiaI guess people were. It seemed obvious that if a drug makes you lose weight, and you go off the drug, you won't continue to lose the weight.CorinneUnfortunately, except for maybe antibiotics, that seems to be how drugs work. You have to stay on them.VirginiaThere's a lot that comes up for me in this piece. It's looking at new research, bringing to light the fact that when people go off the weight loss drugs, which many people do because they can't tolerate the side effects and it's too expensive, they just get tired of it. There are lots of reasons that people fatigue about being on a weekly injection drug. They're seeing now that people regain the weight. This is being framed as a grave disappointment and a surprise in the article.CorinneNot to me, but to Oprah.VirginiaOprah particularly. Oprah was surprised. They referenced the fact that even Oprah said that she had stopped taking a weight loss drug cold-turkey for a year and then gained back 20 pounds. "I tried to beat the medication," she told People Magazine. It was then she realized it's going to be a lifetime thing. Brilliant marketing for Weight Watchers, Oprah. She thought she could go off it, but you can't. You should be on it forever. So buy your GLP-1s from Weight Watchers. Of course she wants us to be on it forever. She has a business incentive to make that work. It gets into ableism. Why is it problematic to be on a medication for the rest of your life? I have asthma. I expect to use an inhaler to manage that for the rest of my life. I have sleep apnea. I expect to use a CPAP for the rest of my life. Most people with mental health conditions expect to be on an SSRI for the rest of their life. Why is that a problem?CorinneI think there's something about human nature where people think, I don't want to be on a medication for the rest of my life. I've heard so many people say that.VirginiaOften it's the main resistance to starting a medication. Why? What is it about that that makes us sad?CorinneWe want to believe that we're strong and independent and don't need pills to make us ok.VirginiaYou and I are going to wear glasses for the rest of our lives.CorinneI am extremely screwed. So many medications, so many glasses.VirginiaIf the zombie apocalypse comes, I'm out in the first week because if they break my glasses or I lose an inhaler, I'm sorry, I'm not going to try that hard to survive. Even my acid reflux medication - I don't have debilitating acid reflux - but it's irritating. I would be out.CorinneSame. VirginiaTake me now. CorinneI take multiple medications every single day that I would be lost, if not dead, without.VirginiaI don't understand the aversion to that because it's great that I get to breathe through the help of medication. I'm a big fan.CorinneI think what you're hinting at is it's ableism.VirginiaIt's ableism. We want to believe we can overcome these challenges. We see it especially in conditions that are weight linked in any way. This is why people get told to diet before starting a blood pressure or cholesterol medication when those drugs work really well to manage those conditions ... Corinne... and diets don't.VirginiaAnd diets tend to not do so. Is it such a moral failing to have to go on a statin? I don't think so.CorinneThe other thing they're not talking about directly is - and we've talked about this before - that studies show people who take these drugs for conditions like diabetes and/or insulin resistance, don't tend to stay on them long-term because they're hard drugs to be on. VirginiaYeah.CorinneThis article is so sad for people who got to lose weight on these because they will have to be on them forever if they want to "keep the weight off." It's also sad for people who need to take them to manage chronic conditions. These drugs suck in a lot of ways and people don't want to be on them.VirginiaThat's a valid reason to think, I don't want to be on a drug for the rest of my life if it's giving me terrible side effects. My inhalers don't give me terrible side effects. I just like breathing and want to do it all the time. I'm an oxygen addict. If it's a medication that's giving you side effects, I understand not wanting to be on it for life. For folks who are pursuing this just for weight loss, independent of metabolic health, maybe that's a reason to reflect on whether you need to do that. It is a depressing thing to say, "I will be on a medication that gives me diarrhea, fatigue or whatever side effects, but at least I can be a smaller size." That feels like something to reflect on. That reflection is nowhere in this article, however.CorinneThe article doesn't mention side effects at all, does it? VirginiaIt mentions that it's why a lot of people in the studies are going off the drugs. It's this Catch-22 where they're saying, Oh, people are saying, wow, it's so expensive, or, wow, I have terrible side effects, so I go off it. Then they're framing it like those people were quitters. That they gave up. On the other hand, some of this aversion around "you wouldn't want to be on this medication for the rest of your life" is another layer of anti-fatness. The message is we shouldn't let fat people get away with thinness this way. We don't want them passing for thin because they can stay on a GLP-1 forever. We want them to do the "real work" of weight loss. The idea that you could only achieve weight loss by staying on the medication forever makes the weight loss feel fake to people. It's interesting because all intentional weight loss is fake to some extent. It's all manipulating your body in a direction it doesn't naturally want to go in. So why do we penalize medication-based weight loss versus excessive-running-based weight loss? There's also a nice shout-out to RFK, Jr., who also thought the drugs would just be a short-term fix for people and then we'd go back to eating beef tallow to stay thin. Turns out that's not science, but I don't think we're surprised he's not science. Another flavor of anti-fatness in this piece is the casual normalization that you could do this the old fashioned way. In talking about folks who are able to lose the weight even after they go off, the article says:It's not impossible, but it is extremely difficult. Dr Hauser estimates that fewer than 10% of her patients have successfully kept off 75% or more of the weight they lost after going on a GLP-1 without turning to another weight loss medication or undergoing bariatric surgery. "Those are the people that are working out two hours a day, tracking what they eat. They're working really hard," she said. "I haven't had anyone that just tapers off and isn't really putting that much thought into it and just keeps the weight off. I've never seen that happen."That's just casual normalization of eating disorder behavior. Working out two hours a day and tracking what you eat is not a normal way to live.CorinneThe choice is either drugs or an eating disorder.VirginiaThat's not interrogated by this piece, or in any of the discourse I've seen around the whole idea that you have to be on it forever. It's either you have to be on it forever, or we expect you to do this the old fashioned way, like a good fat person would.CorinneIt's also getting into the Rosey Beeme of it all. She lost some weight with a GLP-1 and then was like, Well, I guess weight loss surgery is the way to go here.VirginiaRight, to continue her health journey. I haven't checked on her in a while. Do you know how that's all going?CorinneNo, I don't and I don't honestly want to know. I just think that will become a more common storyline where people are saying, I didn't want to stay on this drug. It didn't lead to permanent weight loss, but maybe bariatric surgery will.VirginiaWell, that's depressing.CorinneSpeaking of influencers, the second article that we wanted to discuss today ran at the beginning of January in Vulture. It's titled ‘Less People Click If You're a Size 16' How plus-size influencers are faring in a GLP-1 world.VirginiaThis one is paywalled. CorinneI'm glad we're talking about this article because I saw so many people whispering about it on social media before I saw it, and then I saw a lot of folks sharing it. The gist of it is that plus-size influencers are not making as much money as before. They're not getting as many brand deals, etc.VirginiaThey're not getting brand deals from fashion brands and other lifestyle brands, which was interesting to me. The plus-size mom influencers, brands don't want them to show the car seat or the stroller anymore.CorinneI think a lot of plus-size influencers would make money from beauty skincare deals. That seems to be where a lot of the marketing money is. Even that area is slowing.VirginiaThe article talks about how one explanation, in addition to the rise of GLP-1s, is the rise of the tradwife aesthetic. An influencer named Joanna Spicer is interviewed quite a bit in the piece. She says:People in the industry, according to Spicer, are “afraid to say anything. It's being danced around. I've been told that I don't fit the criteria to work with the brand because they're more into the tradwife aesthetic. I'm like, ‘Got it.'”With the tradwife aesthetic, a baseline of thin is a given, right? They're all willowy thin blondes like Ballerina Farm. It's interesting that it's not just thin, but the whole Little House On the Prairie conservative fundamentalist perspective. That's what is trending right now. CorinneIt's very depressing. I like Joanna Spicer and that is not her aesthetic. There are plus-size influencers that lean more in that direction who are also suffering.VirginiaBecause they're not leaning enough in that direction.CorinneThey're not living on farms in Utah. I also thought an interesting part of this was her saying that it's being danced around, that no one's straight up saying what's going on.VirginiaOn the flip side, we've also seen (and reported on) a lot of plus-size influencers becoming not plus-size, or attempting to become not plus-size by sharing their GLP-1 journey. While we've had valid criticisms of the way Rosey Beeme and others have articulated those journeys by using a lot of anti-fat rhetoric, I do understand that when you've made your body your business, and now the business is changing, you feel a lot of pressure to change your body to keep up with things.CorinneThis article doesn't mention it, but there have been a couple of brands recently announcing they're not going to make plus sizes anymore, one of which is Christy Dawn, which is a big tradwife aesthetic brand.VirginiaI never did get a Christy Dawn prairie dress while they made them in my size. Now I guess I never will.CorinneI did try one once. It's really not my aesthetic, but it didn't seem nice.VirginiaI kind of wish you had photos. I really can't picture you in a tradwife dress.CorinneI put it on and was horrified.VirginiaYou had a reaction to that like I have to those boiler suit jumpsuits where I feel trapped, have a panic attack and I can't get them off.CorinneThere was too much shoulder. I didn't like it.VirginiaIt's the whole milkmaid thing.CorinneI like my shoulders covered.VirginiaYeah, not your aesthetic. All of this tradwife aesthetic taking over influencer culture and who's getting brand deals also very much ties into how much this is driven by the political climate right now, which is obviously a dumpster fire. Here is another excerpt from the piece:One vice president and an influencer marketing agency who asked to remain anonymous, said that while they haven't seen brands explicitly push back against working with plus-size creators. They are far more hesitant to sponsor any creator who gets even remotely political. What is acceptable now politically may not be in the future, and to avoid any issues, they don't want any voices that are not controlled internally from their side, he said. That made me wonder if fat influencers are more likely to be left wing and progressive than thin influencers. We don't have any data, but my instinct is yes.CorinneThey're probably more likely to be outspoken about size inclusivity, at least.VirginiaPeople think fat liberation is not political or it's not considered part of political action, and it is part of it. They also wrote:"The trend to move away from plus-size clothing aligns with the trend to move away from DEI. It's all related,” says Monica Corbin, a stylist at a plus-size fashion brand. “We had this big explosion during COVID around inclusivity, and I just think there's been the biggest backlash."So what's happening in influencer culture is just a microcosm of our whole country right now?CorinneThere is a part of this article that was so sad. Joanna Spicer was talking about how not being able to get work in your area of expertise makes you feel like a loser. That it's demoralizing and you feel like you've done something wrong. And you don't want to speak out about it because you don't want to screw yourself over in the future. It sounds so isolating.VirginiaThere's often a lot of pressure on influencers not to be transparent about the business model and the money, which is something we see in almost every female dominated industry. Anytime you have an industry that's majority women, people tend to be underpaid and you're encouraged not to talk about money, which is why all of my writer friends know I am extremely transparent about money. Because I feel like this is how any of us make any. It doesn't surprise me that people were so hesitant to go on record for this story because they think they have so much to risk if they say these brands are paying them less. But it also enrages me because these brands are treating you terribly. How else do we put pressure on them to do something different and make different choices?CorinneI don't know, but it's scary to do that now, especially when it feels like there's fear of political retaliation.VirginiaMaybe this is me grasping at a strand of hope, but I do wonder if the fact that Vulture did this story is a positive sign. Will this kind of media coverage put pressure on brands to be more inclusive again? You could read this piece and think, What is Virginia talking about? There's no GLP-1 backlash. The fact that the piece exists feels like a tiny bit of backlash. Or am I just grasping?CorinneWe'll see. It's probably going to take eight years, but I think at least some of the shine is off.VirginiaIt's hard to say that we're definitively in a backlash, or in a moment of change. I don't think we are. I think we are in a moment of increased nuance, and that's where we've landed. There's value in that. There's value in the conversations becoming more nuanced. The last piece we wanted to talk about was Amanda Richard's recent essay about her own experience taking GLP-1s and her take on where we are in this moment. It's called The return of thinness, without the reckoning. What are your thoughts on this piece?CorinneI thought it was really interesting. I read it this morning and haven't fully digested it. The most interesting part to me was this part near the end where she says:What this moment reveals isn't hypocrisy, it's preference, preference for ease over effort, relief over reckoning, for changing bodies instead of changing the rules that they're judged by. Fat acceptance faltered not because it was wrong, but because it asked more of people than a weight loss transformation ever could. She's getting at this moment in culture where people have lower tolerance than ever for friction. We want everything to be as easy as possible, myself included. That's not always what's best for the world, or even ourselves.VirginiaShe's arguing that we're not in a backlash, but that the rise of GLP-1s has legitimized the pursuit of thinness in new ways. She wrote:What's changed isn't the desire to be thin, but the way that desire is explained. It no longer has to pass through shame, discipline or denial, instead arriving framed as care, responsibility and common sense. we've had moral alibis for thinness before diets, program, supplements, lifestyle changes, but they were always imperfect because they still smelled like wanting. They required visible discipline. They demanded effort. They asked people to accept failure when their bodies didn't cooperate. Medicine is a better alibi.I thought that was pretty dead on.CorinneThat's interesting, although we had health as an alibi before.VirginiaWe definitely did. But she's right that making it something that doctors prescribe, that you have to do, and you have to do in very specific ways in order to adhere correctly to it, does feel different from when doctors say, Try to lose some weight and, you know, walk more. It's vague and nebulous and pushes people over to diet culture.Because you're accessing it through consumerism it feels more like something you want, like a choice you're making. There's aesthetic components. I'm doing this celebrity's plan, you know. It feels legitimate now that you're doing it as a responsible choice for yourself because a doctor prescribed it. It's not to say that the medical choices people are making to do these drugs are always wrong, or that it's a bad choice for everybody. Again, it's a great medication for managing diabetes. Because all of the research dollars in the world go towards these drugs, they are discovering other new benefits of them, and that's great if we don't want people to not have those benefits. CorinneWe didn't mention that the whole premise of the piece is that she's taking a GLP-1 for a condition, and it has helped tremendously.VirginiaShe's had some weight loss as a side effect, but that wasn't the primary goal. Fat acceptance needs to keep making more space for those stories and that reality. That is why we added the Anti-Diet Ozempic Life chat room on Burnt Toast, because I was hearing from readers ashamed and confessing to me that they were on a GLP-1 and not having a place to talk about how to do that with integrity and in alignment with their fat liberation values. I was thought, Well, we're doing something wrong if we're making people feel bad about their own individual choices. That's what the other guys do. That's not what we're about. The conversations there have been fascinating and super instructive to me. I've learned a lot. Everybody who's navigating this, if you've identified that fat liberation is one of your values, you have a responsibility to interrogate this thing that Amanda's articulating, how much of this is a moral alibi for thinness, and what does that mean if you're using medicine as your alibi to achieve thinness because of all the other reasons that thinness is valued.CorinneAlthough, in our culture, how can you not? There's always some element of "Being thin is good? Being thinner Is better?"VirginiaBeing prettier? I'll have better access to things. I don't think wanting that for yourself is "wrong" because how could you not want it?CorinneIt's the water we're swimming in. It's hard to make a neutral choice.VirginiaThere is no neutral choice. Articulating that tension to yourself is valuable versus just dressing it up in "I am doing this for x, y and z health reason. I don't care about being thin." Let's be honest. Of course we all care about that a little bit. We're in an interesting place with this stuff. I'm curious to hear what folks think. How you resonated with these articles and what else you're seeing in the discourse. I am glad for the increasing nuance and I wish mainstream media could spot its anti-fat bias even sometimes.

#332: If you've been waiting for permission, validation, or a sign to make a change, this is it.In this episode of the “How to Get What You Want” series, I'm sitting down with psychic medium, spiritual teacher, and author Aycee Brown for a conversation about the one thing standing between you and the life you want: telling yourself the truth.Because most of the time when you feel stuck, it's a sign of self-rejection, not confusion.Together, we unpack why clarity is the real catalyst for manifestation, how many of us unconsciously abandon our desires to be more palatable, and what it looks like to trust your body, your intuition, and your inner knowing. If luck is created through alignment, then honesty is where it begins.Aycee also shares how spiritual frameworks like astrology, numerology, and human design can deepen your self-understanding, why success can feel more threatening than failure, and how small acts of self-trust build the life you've been envisioning.Consider this your reminder: you don't need to become someone else to have the life you want. You need to embody who you already are. This episode is for you if…You know you want more and you're done pretending you don't.You're ready to be honest about what you want. You've outgrown who you used to be.You're learning that self-trust is the real strategy. You want clarity — not confusion — guiding your next chapter. You're done waiting for luck to knock on your door and are ready to create it.Episode Links:Follow Aycee on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/ayceebrown/Follow Aycee on TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@ayceebrownListen to Aycee's podcast “Is My Aura on Straight?” https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/is-my-aura-on-straight/id1459927270Order Aycee's new book “Embody Your Magic” out February 17: https://bookshop.org/a/55347/9780063360327Sponsors:IM8: if you're ready to feel more like your best self, go to IM8HEALTH.com/lucky and use code LUCKY. “Can I go back to how I was before this started?” If you're living with male pelvic pain, you've probably asked that question a hundred times. In this episode of Pelvic Pain Matters, Karl Monahan begins a mini-series on time — and why the desire to “go back” can quietly keep you stuck in blame, fear, and constant comparison to the old you. Karl shares his own story (including a serious infection and long-term fear about relationships, sex, fertility, and identity), then brings in real examples from recent calls with younger men dealing with distressing changes and the same burning question: “Will this ever go back to normal?” This is an honest, compassionate conversation about: why we can't turn back time what that means emotionally (guilt, shame, regret, fear) and how acceptance (not resignation) can become the first real shift toward recovery. You're not broken. You're not alone. And even if things don't return exactly to “before,” you can move forward and reclaim your life. In this episode, we cover: ✅ Why “I just want my old life back” is so common (and so heavy) ✅ The role of guilt, shame, and regret in pelvic pain loops ✅ A crucial distinction: Acceptance vs Resignation ✅ Why waiting to feel “100% better” can keep life on pause ✅ How to take the smallest step forward when everything feels impossible ✅ The invitation: growth, adaptation, self-compassion, and momentum Chapters / Timestamps 00:00 – Intro: Pelvic Pain Matters + why this topic matters 00:52 – The “Time” mini-series: how long will this take? 01:31 – Today's question: “Can I go back to how it was?” 03:54 – The first truth: we can't turn back time 05:06 – Blame, shame, guilt: the “if only I hadn't…” loop 06:07 – Karl's story: what happened + why it shaped everything 08:29 – Fast forward: life after pelvic pain fear 10:00 – Real examples: young men asking “will it go back?” 11:54 – Perspective: we can't undo life events, but we can learn 12:52 – The shift: Acceptance (and why it's misunderstood) 15:09 – Acceptance vs resignation: an invitation to change 16:01 – Small steps toward big life goals 17:33 – CTA: connect, share, review + what's next in the series Comment below: What are you wishing you could “go back” to? In this powerful, unfiltered conversation, Coach Frank Rich sits down with Keith Yackey, founder of The Married Game, to unpack the real reasons intimacy, attraction, and connection fade inside modern marriages — and how men can take ownership, rebuild polarity, and transform their identity from the inside out. Keith shares his personal story of losing his marriage despite financial success, confronting painful truths about his own passivity, and discovering that if he was the problem, he could also become the solution. Together, Frank and Keith explore masculinity, leadership, emotional safety, discipline, trust, self-respect, and why becoming the strongest version of yourself is the foundation for a thriving relationship. This is not a "relationship advice" episode. It's a wake-up call for men who are ready to stop blaming, stop hiding, and start becoming the man they were created to be. What You'll Learn in This Episode Why most men silently feel disconnected from their wife — and why shame keeps them stuck The hard truth about attraction: why it fades and how it's rebuilt How passivity, people-pleasing, and validation-seeking kill polarity in marriage Why doing what you say you'll do builds trust — and trust fuels desire The connection between identity, discipline, and intimacy How porn, secrecy, and self-betrayal erode masculine presence Why real transformation must be done for yourself, not for approval The difference between chasing validation and embodying leadership How men can begin rebuilding confidence, playfulness, and connection What it truly means to raise your standards and live congruently When a man has cleaned up his side of the street — and what happens next How honesty about desire, truth, and self-respect leads to freedom Key Takeaways from the Episode If you're the problem, you can also be the solution. Ownership creates hope. Attraction isn't negotiated — it's embodied. Trust is built by doing what you say you'll do, consistently. Men must stop living for validation and start living by standards. Identity transformation changes everything — body, mindset, marriage, purpose. Safety fuels desire. Emotional stability creates polarity. Self-discipline builds self-trust, and self-trust builds masculine presence. You don't change to save your marriage. You change because that's who you are. The healthiest relationships are chosen, not negotiated. Honesty about what you truly want is the starting point of transformation. About Keith Yackey Keith Yackey is the founder of The Married Game, a coaching company dedicated to helping men rebuild attraction, intimacy, and polarity in their marriages by becoming the strongest version of themselves. His work focuses on masculine identity, leadership, emotional mastery, and self-respect as the foundation for connection and desire. After nearly losing his own marriage despite outward success, Keith committed himself to understanding attraction dynamics, masculine embodiment, and relational polarity. Today, he coaches men around the world through programs, books, and media that challenge men to confront uncomfortable truths and rise to higher standards in every area of life. Keith is also the host of The Married Game Podcast, where he explores marriage, masculinity, sexuality, and personal responsibility with raw honesty and depth. We're talking about Physical and Mental fitness with Army combat veteran entrepreneur, speaker, and Founder of Soldier Fit, training centers, Danny Farrar. He achieved success as a business owner, MMA fighter and endured events like the Pentagon on 9/11 and combat in Iraq. But we open with one of Farrar's most challenging chapters- his childhood. Like he's done for thousands of fitness clients over the years, Farrar preached lessons he learned from his past, the military and one vivid memory of almost getting choked-out during a mixed martial arts match. However, whether it's a lesson from his life or an observation of society today, Farrar consistently helps people believe they can achieve anything. From fitness to career goals to just wanting to live a better life, Farrar gives the hard truth and often surprising advice. Farrar also shared how the ongoing wave of polarizing news stories; ICE, immigration, social media anger and political unrest, actually reveals a deeper issue within ourselves. And once we conquer it, “anything is possible”. Leadership is one of the most complicated and uncomfortable responsibilities a business owner will ever carry, and in this episode of Torsion Talk, Ryan Lucia goes deep into a realization that's reshaping how he views leadership, culture, and decision-making. Ryan unpacks the tension every leader faces between trying to keep people happy and doing what's actually best for the business, and why confusing the two can slowly destroy results, profitability, and trust.Ryan reflects on his own leadership journey, including times where he overcorrected in response to bad bosses from his past and leaned too far into pleasing people at the expense of the business. He explains why some of the most impactful leaders he's ever had were difficult, demanding, and unapologetically focused on excellence, and why those leaders ultimately pulled the best out of him. As owners, Ryan argues, the responsibility isn't just to lead people, but to lead a company, and when results fall short, that accountability lands squarely on the leader. The episode takes a raw turn as Ryan shares lessons learned from letting go of one of the most toxic employees he's ever had, the warning signs he missed, and the ripple effects toxic leadership can have on an entire team. He challenges business owners to ask whether fear, friendships, or past baggage are preventing them from making necessary decisions, including firing underperformers, enforcing standards, or driving change their teams may resist.Ryan also addresses the reality of onboarding, ownership, and expectations in the garage door and home service industries, emphasizing the importance of honesty, accountability, and mutual effort. He openly admits his own flaws, mistakes, and limits as a leader, while reinforcing that growth requires decisiveness, clarity, and the courage to deliver bad news when it's needed. This episode is a direct challenge to leaders who feel stuck, stressed, or torn between culture and results. Ryan asks listeners to reflect on how they're making decisions, who they're protecting, and whether fear is quietly dictating their leadership. He closes with encouragement, gratitude, and a reminder that great leadership isn't about being liked, it's about doing the hard work that builds something better for everyone.Find Ryan at:https://garagedooru.comhttps://aaronoverheaddoors.comhttps://markinuity.com/Check out our sponsors!Sommer USA - http://sommer-usa.comSurewinder - https://surewinder.comStealth Hardware - https://quietmydoor.com/

The Functional Nurse Podcast - Nursing in Functional Medicine
Sponsored by the Institute for Functional Nursing. Learn more about our programs at fxnursing.com Functional Medicine is meant to be about healing the root cause, not just managing symptoms—but not every provider or clinic claiming to practice “FM” is truly doing it. In this powerful episode, I share a personal (and fully permitted) story about a loved one who finally sought Functional Medicine help—only to end up in a clinic focused more on selling expensive labs and supplements than offering real clinical strategy, support, or individualized care. This isn't about calling out individuals. It's about protecting patients—especially those who are vulnerable, overwhelmed, or desperate for answers. I've had this same type of conversation with hundreds of RNs and NPs, and its an all too common problem. Whether you're navigating chronic illness, searching for integrative support, or trying to help a loved one who's struggling, this conversation will help you understand how to identify red flags, ask the right questions, and recognize when a provider isn't truly practicing root-cause Functional Medicine. Learn how to vet Functional Medicine providers Discover the red flags of “brand-based” FM vs. process-based FM Understand why supplement-heavy protocols often miss the mark Explore the importance of patient readiness before starting care See why IFM training is a valuable (but not foolproof) signal If you're looking for ethical, effective, and personalized root-cause care—this episode is for you. In This Episode: Signs a clinic may be using "Functional Medicine" as a sales tactic Why supplement-first protocols often backfire How to ask better questions before spending thousands The role of readiness in healing (and how to support someone who's not ready yet) The value of proper Functional Medicine training (like IFM) If this episode resonates with you, share it with someone who needs to hear it.
Trim Healthy Podcast w/Serene & Pearl (and some guy named Danny)
What if nothing is “wrong”… it's just not finished yet? If you've been showing up, doing the right things, choosing wisdom—and still wondering why the results feel invisible—this episode is for you. Today's Patient Potty is all about patience as a skill, not a personality trait. We talk about why real, lasting change often looks painfully slow at first—and how God, nature, and even our own bodies are wired for long games, not instant wins. We open with Scripture on endurance and hope, then zoom out to powerful reminders from history and nature: bamboo that grows roots for years before shooting up overnight, sequoias that take centuries to tower, fruit trees that refuse to be rushed. Along the way, we share real-life “slow mastery” stories—strength training that finally pays off in real moments, metabolism changes you can't see day-to-day, learning singular focus, navigating the fine line between help and control in marriage, and the quiet confidence that comes from staying planted. And yes… we also have huge news in a small package:Seven Skills to Lasting Health is officially available for pre-order—a short, doable THM primer designed to make consistency feel possible again. What actually separates leaders who scale from those who stall? Why do some teams take ownership… while others crumble under pressure? And what happens when YOU are the bottleneck and don't even know it? In Part 2 of the Level Up + Live Entrepreneur Panel, host Sean Meyers sits down with powerhouse operators Michael David Reilly (The MD Brand Doctor), Cody Schneider (Aquarium Maintenance), and Micah Haarhoff (Revolution Power Sports) for a no-fluff, no-ego conversation that cuts straight through the noise. You know what to do. Do you turn away or step forward? Sometimes the easiest choice is to stay comfortable. This teaching explores two responses to being guided—one shaped by avoidance, the other by attention—and how choosing comfort can quietly cost us more than we expect. POD 283 1 Samuel 3. In this episode of the Elevate Media Podcast, Chris Anderson welcomes Jeremy Vest, a veteran YouTube strategist. With two decades of experience, Jeremy provides a no-nonsense guide to achieving sustainable growth, moving past the common pitfalls that keep over 90% of creators from even reaching 1,000 subscribers. This is a crucial conversation for anyone looking to build a media company, from aspiring creators to small business owners. In this episode, you will learn:Why you must create content for the viewer, not for yourself, and why being a "generalist" on YouTube is a "very dangerous thing."The critical importance of narrowing down your niche, using the example of the world's most famous plumber, and why specificity (e.g., "skaters over 40") is essential to stand out from AI-generated content. The "Purpose, Passion, Profit" three-circle alignment necessary to sustain creativity over the long haul. The power of defining your value and mission in a six-word phrase to maintain focus and belief. The "Click, Watch, Like" algorithm framework and how to set the first two seconds of your video with high stakes to match your title and thumbnail intent. How Jeremy's company uses AI to find the titles, hooks, and scripts from the world's top-performing videos to create winning formulas. Why creators must have a "growth mindset" to improve by 1% every week, instead of quitting with a "fixed mindset."The smart way to monetize: never make more than 10% of your revenue from ads, prioritizing your own products/services, affiliate marketing, and brand partnerships. The "hard truth" most creators are not ready to hear about their journey to success. In this episode of the Wine and Gold Talk Podcast, Ethan Sands and Chris Fedor dive into the reality that the Cavs can no longer ignore when facing the Detroit Pistons. Following Cleveland's 114-110 loss in Detroit, they break down what's gone wrong, from the team's ongoing identity struggles to inconsistent defense, abysmal second-quarter stretches, and a bench hampered by injuries and constant lineup shifts. The conversation dives into the challenge of building a physical, defense-first mentality without the right personnel, and how Coach Kenny Atkinson is still tinkering to find solutions. With the Eastern Conference standings tightening, the hosts explore why the window for experimentation is closing and why the Cavs must confront these realities head-on if they hope to climb the playoff ladder. This is our 100th episode, and it's an extra special one. Ashley looks back on all of the moments that have shaped her 7-Figure business Inside this episode, she reflects on:
What if the biggest threat to your restaurant's success isn't a lack of ideas—but too many of them?Chris Gannon built BOLAY with the DNA of a legacy brand—his father helped launch Outback Steakhouse. But unlike the bloomin' days of casual dining, fast-casual success demands ruthless focus. In this episode, Chris shares how over-innovation almost broke his business, why the need to be creative can kill consistency, and the real lesson behind scaling a scratch-made concept. We get into why most founders outgrow their own systems, how a background in marketing helped him build culture from day one, and the power of saying no to the next shiny object. If you're trying to grow without losing your soul—or your sanity—this one's for you.To learn more about BOLAY and their mission to make bold, fresh food fast, visit bolay.com_________________________________________________________Free 5-Day Restaurant Marketing Masterclass – This is a live training where you'll learn the exact campaigns Josh has built and tested in real restaurants to attract new guests, increase visit frequency, and generate sales on demand. Thanks to our Partners, NAPA Auto Care and NAPA TRACS Watch Full Video Episode Becca Zanders, Certified Exit Planning Advisor, explains why most auto repair shop owners are unprepared for an exit—and how to change that. Only 20–30% of businesses that go to market actually sell, and nearly half of those sales are forced by the “Five Ds”: Death, Divorce, Disability, Disagreement, or Distress. Becca introduces the Value Acceleration Methodology, which reframes exit planning into three stages: Discover the business's true value and the owner's readiness, Prepare the leader, finances, and organization to accelerate value, and Decide whether to grow or sell. A key distinction is the difference between a profitable lifestyle business and a business built for value. The conversation stresses the importance of closing the “wealth gap,” as most owners underestimate retirement needs and have the majority of their net worth trapped in their business. Personal readiness is equally critical, with many sellers regretting the sale because they failed to define their purpose beyond ownership. Advice to shop owners: build the right advisory team and start advancing your business today, long before a sale is forced. This episode of Uncommon Sense with Ginny Robinson takes a hard look at the growing contradictions surrounding Erika Kirk and the direction of TPUSA's AmFest (or should I say IsFest). From Charlie Kirk's own recorded warnings about bad cultural role models to TPUSA turning around and platforming those very same celebrities (Nicki Minaj included) whose lifestyles openly contradict Christian teaching, the hypocrisy is no longer ignorable. We're breaking down how moral inconsistency, pop-culture appeasement, and ideological confusion are rotting the conservative movement from the inside out. America First cannot exist without Christianity first—not as a buzzword, not as branding, but as the moral and cultural foundation of who we are. And right now, we are watching our spiritual and national identity slip away in real time. When so-called Christian leaders blur lines, excuse the very behavior they once condemned, and choose influence over truth, they don't just lose credibility, they lose the plot (and they lose the people who trusted them). This episode is a call for honesty, consistency, and real conservative leadership rooted in the Christian values they claim to stand for. Not clout, not platforms, and not sinful worldliness. We don't need people playing leaders. We need actual leadership.—https://www.bible.com/
Send us a textThis episode of The Anthony Amen Show is different — Anthony is the one in the hot seat.In a raw, unfiltered interview, Anthony breaks down what it actually takes to move from coach to entrepreneur, and why most fitness professionals never make the jump. We talk about the unglamorous realities behind building a real business: learning to love numbers and systems, deciding whether you're an operator or a hobbyist, and using long-term thinking to design a life that doesn't collapse under success.Anthony shares how his passion for coaching evolved into building scalable machines that help more people — and how that shift demanded emotional regulation, better habits, and uncomfortable risk. The conversation covers season-of-life decisions, including when to keep a 9–5 while building at night, when asymmetric upside justifies going all-in, and how to apply “gym logic” to business growth. It gets personal. Anthony opens up about losing friendships, rebuilding his relationship with the woman who became his wife, and learning how proximity, environment, and ownership shape outcomes — in business and in life. This episode is for:Fitness professionals who want more than trading hours for dollarsEntrepreneurs balancing ambition with relationshipsAnyone building something meaningful who feels the weight of responsibilityIf you're trying to scale without burning out — or wondering what the real cost of growth looks like — this conversation gives you frameworks, not fluff.Subscribe to The Anthony Amen Show for grounded conversations on fitness, business, leadership, and life. Keith Nester spent more than two decades as a Protestant pastor. Preaching, leading, counseling, and absolutely certain he would never become Catholic. Yet his actual conversion story is long, often humorous, at times painful, and far deeper than a simple change of denomination. In this episode, John Heinen and Devin Schadt sit down with @KeithNester to uncover what really happened behind the scenes: the fears he carried, the pride he had to confront, the moments of grace that broke him open, and the unexpected ways God used marriage, suffering, and friendship to draw him home. But this isn't just a conversion story, the show quickly turns to truths every man needs to hear. Truths about how to lead, love, and live the faith with integrity. Keith shares the “hard truth” he believes all men must face: that authority without humility collapses, that evangelization begins long before words are spoken, but we still must speak, and that the quiet witness of fatherhood, sacrifice, and joy can transform more hearts than arguments ever will.

We lie to ourselves when we say, “I deserve to be rich,” “I deserve to be wealthy,” but the work don't match the words. In this episode, I'm challenging that whole mindset and walking you into what I call “The Last 30” – the final stretch where we stop capping to ourselves, fix our heart posture, and get aligned for 2026 for real, not just on Instagram. In this season right here, I'm not talking to the version of you that wants more motivation. I'm talking to the version of you that's finally ready to take full accountability – no excuses, no blame, no “they did me wrong.” We talk about why pressure is a privilege, why most people are playing life on defense instead of offense, and why your life right now is a reflection of your inner world, not the outer circumstances you keep pointing at.Join our Exclusive Patreon!!!
