More money does not necessarily buy more happiness, but less money is associated with emotional pain. $75,000 may be a threshold beyond which further increases in income no longer improve individuals' ability to do what matters most to their emotional well-being, such as spending time with people they like, avoiding pain and disease, and enjoying leisure. Data speaks only to differences; it doesn't imply that people will not be happy with a raise from $100,000 to $150,000, or that they will be indifferent to an equivalent drop in income. Changes of income in the high range certainly have emotional consequences. #1 Tip for Setting Goals/Resolutions Focus on one major thing at a time! S.M.A.R.T. Goals Specific: Your goals must be specific. They must outline precisely what it is that you would like to achieve. The more detail, the better. Specifically, focus on what you want and not on how you will accomplish these things. Measurable: Your goals must be measurable. Spend some time developing a process that you will use to measure your progress as you work toward your goals. How will you know you are making progress? Attainable: Your goals must be attainable. This effectively means that you must wholeheartedly believe that you can achieve your goals. Realistic: Your goals must be realistic. Your goals are realistic when you have the time, money, resources, and skills needed to achieve the goal. If you lack in any of these areas, then you need to get to work or set a different objective. Timed: Your goals must be timed. You must set a deadline for the achievement of your goal. Without clear deadlines, you will likely succumb to procrastination and instant gratification.   S – Specific (or Significant). M – Measurable (or Meaningful). A – Attainable (or Action-Oriented). R – Relevant (or Rewarding). T – Time-bound (or Trackable).   New Year's Resolutions You Can Actually Stick To Break a Bad Habit – this type of resolution tends to be specific enough that you can actually hold yourself accountable and keep with it. Once you find that you have full control over yourself when it comes to overcoming the bad habit, you might even be inspired to expand that mindset into larger aspects of your life like work, relationships and health.   Try Something New – It's only human nature to stick to what we know. But while it's perfectly fine to have routine and a sense of normalcy in your lives, broadening your horizons to new experiences can only help you grow. Choose one thing you don't usually do or have never done and break out of your comfort zone a bit.   Prioritize Self-Care – Sometimes we are so busy worrying about others that we forget to take time for our mental and physical health. If you feel guilty taking some me-time, keep in mind that there's a difference between taking care of yourself and being self-indulgent.   Mend Relationships – If you want an easy way to get into the whole “new year, new me” mindset, letting go of grudges and mending relationships is a good place to start. At the same time, recognize when someone in your life is toxic or is holding you back in any way. The people you surround yourself with play a role in shaping who you are, so make sure their qualities, personalities, and values and line up in some way with those of your own.   Go Easy On Yourself – Recognize all your hard work and learn when it's time to treat yourself. If you vowed to eat healthier this year that doesn't mean you have to deprive yourself from a delicious meal or a night out with friends. Goal setting is a powerful process for thinking about your ideal future, and for motivating yourself to turn your ideas [for the future] into reality. The process of setting goals helps you choose where you want to go in life. By knowing precisely what you want to achieve, you know where you should concentrate your efforts.  You'll also quickly spot the distractions that would otherwise lure you away from your intended direction/goal. Properly focused goals can be incredibly motivating, and as you get into the habit of setting and achieving them, you'll find that your self confidence improves and your vision grows. Goal setting techniques are used widely in business, sport, academic achievement and also in everyday life. They give you long term vision and short term motivation. They focus your quest of knowledge and help you to organise your time and your resources so that you can make the very most of your life.   By setting sharp, clearly defined goals, you can measure and take pride in the achievement of those goals. You can see forward progress in what might previously have seemed a long pointless grind. By setting goals, you will also raise your self confidence, as you recognise your ability and competence in achieving the goals that you have set.   From the Book ‘On the Shoulders of Giants' by Rhondalynn Korolak "You control your future, your destiny. What you think about comes about. By recording your dreams and goals on paper, you set in motion the process of becoming the person you most want to be.  Put your future in good hands – your own." ~ Mark Victor Hansen ~   You have to know what it is you are seeking to achieve in life otherwise it's too easy to drift aimlessly. Years pass like days and next thing you know 20 years have passed and you've still not finished that novel that you started to write, not gone back to school to get that degree, not sorted your financial affairs, never bothered to get around to learning a second language etc. There is one thing that we need to touch on in the context of goal setting – it is the distinction between goals and dreams. And it is this distinction that makes all the difference. Too often, traditional goal setting can seem like a very clinical exercise. Pick up any self-help or business book and it will tell you how to set SMART goals – specific, measurable, achievable, realistic and time bound. While I agree with the necessity of these basic factors, I also think it is absolutely crucial to incorporate the element of "dreams" and the "imagination". By their very nature, dreams are illogical, irrational, non-sequential, without specific steps and difficult to measure. However, too many of us get limited in our goal setting by the constraints of our own imagination. We would all like to make an extra $100,000 a year but we have no powerful, compelling reason ‘WHY'. What exactly would you do with another $100,000? That is the critical question to ask yourself …   Connect with ‘what' or ‘why' and the ‘how' will make itself known to you in the most miraculous ways.   Even so, $100,000 is not a huge stretch in today's terms. But most never dare to aspire to double or triple their income. Why is that? The missing element is the realm of dreams and imagination. By its very nature, a dream is something that is potentially unrealistic. However, dreams are incredibly powerful and compelling because they are about who you are becoming, not who you are now. Dreams and imagination lie within the domain of the subconscious mind. By incorporating this additional element into the goal setting process, we connect to the infinite resourcefulness of the subconscious and ignite a passion that will inspire and drive us towards our goals. Financial Foreplay® Highlights: Define your Goals: 1.When setting goals it is very important to remember that your goals must be consistent with your values. 2. A goal can not contradict any of your other goals. For example, you can't buy a $750,000 house if your income goal is only $50,000 per year. This is called non-integrated thinking and will sabotage all of the hard work you put into your goals. Non-integrated thinking can also hamper your everyday thoughts as well. It pays dividends to continually strive to eliminate contradictory ideas from your thinking. 3. Develop goals in the 6 areas of life:                      Family and Home                    Financial and Career                    Spiritual and Ethical                    Physical and Health                    Social and Cultural                    Mental and Educational   Setting goals in each area of life will ensure a more balanced life as you begin to examine and change the fundamentals of everyday living. Setting goals in each area of live also helps in eliminating the non-integrated thinking we talked about in the 2nd step. 4. Write your goal in the positive instead of the negative. Work for what you want, not for what you want to leave behind. Part of the reason why we write down and examine our goals is to create a set of instructions for our subconscious mind to carry out. Your subconscious mind is a very efficient tool, it cannot determine right from wrong and it does not judge. It's only function is to carry out its instructions. The more positive instructions you give it, the more positive results you will get.  Thinking positively in everyday life will also help in your growth as a human being. Don't limit it to goal setting.   5. Write your goal out in great detail. You must give the subconscious mind a detailed set of instructions to work on. The more information you give it, the more clear the final outcome becomes. The more precise the outcome, the more efficient the subconscious mind can become.   6. By all means, make sure your goal is high enough.   7. This is the most important, writing down your goals creates the roadmap to your success. Although just the act of writing them down can set the process in motion, it is also extremely important to review your goals frequently. Remember, the more focused you are on your goals the more likely you are to accomplish them. Sometimes we realise we have to revise a goal as circumstances and other goals change. If you need to change a goal do not consider it a failure, consider it a victory as you had the insight to realise something needed adjustment.  MY RESULT Goal Setting Formula   Whilst you need the capacity to dream you also need to be able to move that vision from the ethereal to the material and that is where MY RESULT goal setting methodology comes in:   M          Measurable result. How will you know when you get there? What does the end step look like? Y            Why? For what purpose/intention do you want it? Do not be afraid to dream BIG here!   R            Realistic and achievable. Don't be afraid to set a longer-term goal that is a stretch or a challenge. E            Ecological – is it good for you, others and the planet? S            Specific, clear and concise goals – ensure you subconscious mind knows what it is working towards. U           You have it now. The goal must be written in the present, as if you have it now and signed by you. L             Looking toward your goal - not moving away from what you do not want. Action-oriented. T            Time bound - must have a specific achievement date.

SMART which can be defined as S-Specific which means that your goals need to be direct, detailed, and meaningful like real numbers with real deadlines. For e.g. if you say you want to be successful it is not a goal wherein if you say you want to double your business by march,2021 then it is a specific goal. M-Measurable which means that your goal should be quantifiable so that the progress or success can be tracked. As in the case of above e.g. the number which is doubling the business is very much trackable whereas being successful is not. A-Achievable which means that your goal should be challenging but there should be a possibility to achieve it. You should have the tools and resources to achieve the goal. For e.g. if you want to double your business you should have adequate machinery or manpower to achieve your target. R-Relevant which means it should be sensible enough as per the industry. You should know what you and your team are capable of. For e.g. if you are part of the website designing industry your team should have designers. SMART Goal series, T. for timely. We are diving into the reason to set SMART goals. I used to absolutely HATE SMART goals, but that was before I understood the science behind them.  I have had a fascination for the mind for as long as I can remember. So much so, I have undergone my NLP (Neuro linguistic programming) certification and I am currently getting my EFT tapping certification as well. In NLP, the conscious mind is known as the goal setter, and the subconscious is known as the goal getter, which is why it's important to set goals for your subconscious mind to take over the task of mapping out how to achieve your goals. This week we are learning about the T in SMART goals. The T stands for TIMELY. In order to have the motivation for your goal, you have to set a date to accomplish your goal by. This keeps you in constant pursuit for your goals. Last week, we learned about the R which is realistic. This used to be a personal struggle for me. As an amputee I have been limited by so many people. All of my goals have been deemed unrealistic by one person or another, which is why this episode is so important to me. I share with you my process for designing REALISTIC goals and how you can use this in your life, too. During this season, we talked about the M in the SMART goal stands for MEASURABLE. How are you documenting your progress? Are you setting sub goals? Are you relying on emotional feedback? Are you tracking your progress at all? It is incredibly important to be in tune with how you're feeling during your goal achieving process. To avoid burnout and fear of failure it's always a good idea to have a method to stay on track and a method to celebrate your wins and successes. This is especially important in those long term, hard to reach goals. In this episode I share the specific tools I use to document my goal setting progress. We are tackling the reason behind SMART goals. I used to absolutely HATE SMART goals, but that was before I understood the science behind them.  I have had a fascination for the mind for as long as I can remember. This was because I didn't know the difference between being busy and being productive. I didn't understand the importance of aligned action- the importance of action that reaps results. This episode I get real with you on why you're not putting in the action steps to getting closer to your goal. Last episode we talked about the M in the SMART goal stands for MEASURABLE. Today marks International Women’s Day, a day dedicated to all the amazing ladies around the world. On this special day, we’d like to pay tribute to the badass women who we have had the pleasure to have as guests on the show during 2020. Check out some of the awesome strategies and tactics which we have covered via these badass gals!   Sue Rice - Storytelling Tips Nicknamed the ‘female David Ogilvy’, Sue Rice is famous for writing award-winning copy for countless entrepreneurs and we chatted about her email copywriting tactics which enable her to deliver record-breaking open rates. One idea is to make connections between things that are seemingly unrelated. We are swimming in a sea of metaphors and part of it is just being conscious of it. One way to make it interesting and bring it into a fresher light, is extensive reading, watching movies, etc. The magic is in everything that’s around us.  Sue listens to the news on the BBC, which has very clever writers. She also uses an app called Clipboard where you can pick the categories you want to follow. It’s important to do a little bit of collective brainstorming every day to see what people are talking about, otherwise, you are defining what you are doing for them on your terms, not theirs. You want to be entering the conversation in their head and if you are not watching that, it’s hard to do.   Molly Mahoney - Facebook Engagement Molly Mahoney of The PrePared Performer, is legendary for her Facebook marketing skills. She’s a wizard at doing Facebook lives and getting organic reach. We chatted all about how Molly is able to get high ticket coaching clients, right from Facebook, how to grow Facebook groups, and how to get interaction on Facebook pages with her four-step process. We loved her advice in regards to getting more engagement on Facebook. She tells us that the rules have changed for bots and there are four types of messages, one of them being a confirmed event reminder. When they comment on the post, they confirm to the bot they want to be reminded of more information. Another way to use this is that when they say yes, you ask them if they want to be reminded about all of your content coming out.  Once they confirm, you want to make sure that button opens up to another piece of the conversation so you are engaging in another conversation within that 24 hours.  Another strategy is the “Unlock and Share Button”, so when they are in your bot after they get the show notes or whatever it is that you are giving, send another message a minute later that says you have a bonus gift they can get if they share your video, and if they want to access, just click here to unlock and share the video.    Lisa Cherney - The More You GFR, The More Impact (And Money) You Will Make Lisa Cherney, now known as The Queen of Clarity, is the host of the ground-breaking confession-based GFR Podcast show for successful soulful entrepreneurs and founder of the GFR Squad, a lively community that is serious about embracing the GFR lifestyle and living a life without regrets. One of her GFR commandments is “Don’t worry about being normal” and the confession is “Where are you not speaking your truth?” That’s where the juice is, determining what is your soapbox. If you weren’t worrying about offending anyone or breaking any laws, what would you want to say? People are too concerned about what strategy they are going to use, but eventually, the strategy will emerge. The more you get real, the more impact you will make. So the first thing is to determine if you are ready. If you’ll do all the strategies and make the investment, this is where to go next. If you are ready, choose the confession question that hits you in the gut and go from there. Just pick the one question, take some time with it, and it will do wonders.   Sara Christensen - Defending Your Business Our chat with Sara was really eye-opening as she talks about how one little post sent her world in a spiral, leading to an all-out war waged on her business, thousands of hateful messages, and even death threats. You want to be extra careful what you are putting out there and what you are involved in. If you don’t already have procedures in place of your social media and email communications, you should make sure that whatever you put out in the world is not going to offend or piss someone off. If you are using outside resources for VA’s, you may run a risk. You don’t want someone working on your team, that’s not as invested or doesn’t understand the complications of posting something that might be harmful. Understand the power of social media which is so amazing yet also be weaponized against you. Be mindful to use it as a building block for your business. Consider if there other ways to diversify where your clients are coming from. Ask yourself, “What if your social media channels got taken away today - what other plans do you have in place?”   Ilana Wechsler - In-Market Audience Targeting  We also chatted with Ilana Wechsler of Green Arrow Digital, who is a former data analyst, turned Pay Per Click marketing expert. She detailed her paid ad puzzle technique and how to make the different pieces of your marketing puzzle work together.  Google is shifting away from the concept of targeting content science to targeting more in regards to who you are as a person, which is like identity-based targeting. One of the ways they are doing this is with in-market audiences, which is very short-term intent-based searching. So you can match your Facebook targeting to Google’s in-market audiences. For example, consider if you are suddenly in the market to buy a car, where you don’t normally search online for car information. Then there are what’s called affinity audiences which is your long-term behavior or things you are looking at online often. So basically you're starting with the people that are already going to your website and looking at who they are and what their actions are, and then slowly expanding out more and more as you get additional data on who these people are that are already coming to your site. If you find those audiences work, especially on the Google side of things, you can apply that in-market audience to your search quadrant and also to the YouTube quadrant. It's a process of systematically building out your puzzle, based on data and if something doesn't work then it doesn't make sense to apply it to a different quadrant.     Susie Moore - Removing Your Blocks We loved chatting with Susie Moore, author of Stop Checking Your Likes as it’s something we’ve all fallen into. One of the things she discussed was how to remove your blocks. First, you need to state as a fact, that you are worthy of receiving. Susie uses the example of being out on a hike with your friends and you go missing. Would your friends consider if you were worth finding, asking if you were thin enough, popular enough, etc.? If this is true in the physical world, this is true on all levels. Even if you have a million likes or followers, it does not alter your worthiness. If you can accept this as a fact and don’t question it, you will know that you are worthy.  Most people spend too long reaching out to people because of fear of rejection. Often it means it’s just not the right fit or the right time. If you don’t ask, the answer is always no. Most people give up after the 2nd or 3rd follow-up. If you keep going, people eventually cave. A confident person is simply willing to be rejected, and to them, it’s no big deal.    Lisa Buyer - Social Media Platforms With Traction We had a great chat with Lisa from PR Secrets on using social media for branding and PR purposes. She covers a host of topics such as newsjacking, chatbots, futurists, SEO, visual reporting, podcasting, and what’s new in putting together a press release.  One of the things we discussed was the latest platforms that have traction. For example, if you are featured in a third-party publication, you can take that article and put it on Facebook and run ads to it targeting people who work at other media publications. It’s a win-win, as the journalist is getting more exposure, and you are getting that third-party credibility, so it’s a smart modern day PR strategy. You can target the publication’s following and run $1 a day ads, as taught by Dennis Hu. You can also take that targeting strategy to other platforms.  Tik Tok is the most talked about social media platform lately, and while Lisa doesn't  have any clients where it’s a good match, from a storytelling standpoint it’s entertaining. From a PR perspective, instead of having her clients start an account, they are looking to share content to the influencer’s audience where the influencer would talk about the brand and create content around a theme. One cool thing about Tik Tok is there are so many cool filters and ways to create videos that are very creative, then take those videos and republish it to your main social channels.    Felicia Pagesh - Campaign Tactics  We had a great chat with Felicia Pagesh of Activate Branding, who dove into fun topics such as conversion optimizations, webinars, landing pages, and other useful techie talks. One tip she gave us is that when you are building out your campaign, you should already know what the objections are that people have. That is what’s included in your sales sequence to overcome those objections. Everything in your webinar should also be designed to overcome those objections, so instead of creating separate FAQs as part of your follow-up, you can pop that transcription sequence into your follow-up for anyone who matches the behavior of someone who is interested but hasn’t bought yet.  Also, give people an option to download an mp4 into an mp3 to listen to your webinar. If you have an audible call to action, keep your URL very simple and easy to follow. As long as it’s trackable, it’s worth testing. It doesn't really cost much more time or money to repurpose and it’s like getting free sales.   Erin Pheil - Fixing Your Mind Erin Pheil from MindFix Group chatted with us all about fixing your mind and getting past those mental roadblocks that get you stuck. You can deal with perfectionism by being compassionate with yourself. You will be able to clear out that pattern so you don’t have to deal with it on a constant basis. A pattern can be emotional or behavioral. For example, we may be triggered into getting angry when someone gives us feedback or we may get anxious whenever we are on camera. Other people may have behavioral patterns like every time it’s time to talk about money, you change the subject. We have these different behaviors and emotions we get stuck in over and over, and if you can identify the pattern, you can work backward and clear it out once you know what it is and what you want to change. Once you do that, it clears up so much energy, space, and time in your life. At the core, humans behave according to what they believe to be true. So if you are walking down the street and see a cat and you believe they are dangerous, you will avoid it. But if you believe cats are awesome, you’ll go over to pet it. When you have a pattern, you take a fundamental truth that humans act based on what they believe to be true. If you're acting or experiencing feelings in a certain way, you believe something that's keeping you looped in there.    Gabby Bernstein - How To Detach We chatted with Gabby Bernstein, author of Super Attractor who gave us some very practical tools to work through some tough stuff that we are all going through in our personal lives. She also talked about what she refers to as her “Rage on the Page” method and the benefits of listening to a specific playlist while writing. Gabby has been practicing with a method based on Dr. John Sarno’s work, who was known for healing back pain, and whose work was based on the fact that our physical pain is a manifestation of our impermissible rage and there is a mind-body prescription to heal that. Gabby has renamed a similar prescription given to her by a friend that deals with journaling, calling it “rage on the page”.  The basis of this is that you journal about the rage for 20 minutes. Even if you don’t think you have rage, it could be as simple as thinking “Why did I eat that bad thing this morning?” Next, meditate for 20 minutes. Gabby also puts on bi-lateral music. She practices a therapeutic method called EMDR, and this is similar to stimulating to each side of the brain. When you start to stimulate the bilateral brain functioning, it allows the resource part of your brain to access some of the information stored hidden and in many ways to see. It allows your brain to unpack what has been hidden.    Kim Krause Schwalm - Copywriter Hiring Tips Kim Krause Schwalm joined us on the show and gave us a boatload of awesome strategies and insight from her long copywriting career. When hiring a copywriter, look at their writing and their portfolio and see if they are passionate, curious, and put hard work into the promo. If you are not well versed in copywriters and are reading a sample and you can see if the headline grabs you (read it at night when you are tired) and makes you want to read further.   Sometimes it’s hard to write your own copy and one thing you can do is to ask someone to give you a critique. If you like what they say, maybe that’s the person you want to hire. That’s one way to see how they work as well. As for communication falling off, the question is how are you paying them? Sometimes if you go back and forth on price, then you probably don’t want to work with them. It often comes down to whether you are getting what you pay for, and you still want to make sure you are getting a good value as it can be a big investment. Have a fair deal and pay them 25-50% upfront. You could have a phase where you have different steps that allow you to move along to minimize some of the risks, plus they will have some built-in milestones they have to meet. Most professional copywriters will agree to a schedule upfront so everyone is on the same page.    Laura Gale - Getting Your Book Published Laura Gale, author, and fellow podcaster joined to talk all about the step-by-step method she uses to guide people to finally get that book published. People discount their own stories as not being compelling all the time. There’s a lot of interesting things in the day-to-day to give people a peek behind the scenes. If you can pinpoint something to one specific moment where something surprised you, or it was unexpected, then those are the moments that are really interesting. Story structure has become a bit of an obsession and people are overthinking it. While the hero’s journey is great, it can take a lot out of it and not every story is going to fit that structure. The more you can rely on emotion and specific moments, the stronger your story will be. For a long time ghostwriting was seen as cheating, but if you are an entrepreneur you want to have other people taking care of the stuff you are not best at, and writing is a skill that takes a lot of time to get good at. The idea that it’s not really your book if you didn’t write it yourself doesn’t ring true. When Laura puts it together, it’s all their voice and all of the material and style is generated by the client. She is more of a vessel to get that story published. Most celebrities who have ever written a book are almost always ghostwritten.    Melanie Benson - How To Spice Up Your Topic If It Is Less Than Exciting On our episode with Melanie Benson, she gave us some great tips on how to follow the ‘golden thread’ to pull the right audience into your world, what to do if you are just starting out in your podcasting journey and how to define your audience and make sure they are a good fit for your business. One way is to think of a formula that connects back to your work (not the Smart Goal formula which is way overused). Melanie created a formula called the ROCS Method: R - Relevant O - Outcome Driven C - Credibility Boosting - people often miss this but try to include it in your intro. Talk about case studies or client successes so people pay attention. Keep it natural, don’t be a name-dropper. S - Specific, find a way to put specificity in it, i.e. can you do it in 90 days? C – Compatible or Challenging  Over the years, I have found it to be extremely helpful to use a system like SMAC to help me sort, identify, and articulate what I want to accomplish. I hope you find tools like SMAC helpful for your future planning too!  Action and accountability  While it does take some serious willpower and determination to start dreaming of a new future - only action and accountability will get you to the finish line. Don’t make the common mistake of just setting really good goals and walking away - you’ve got to put your plans into action!  I recommend breaking down your goals into manageable steps - don’t bite off more than you can chew! Some have even found quarterly goals to be more helpful as they are short-term and help you achieve your long-term objectives.  After you’ve figured out your plan of attack, rope in a friend to help hold you to it. You won’t get where you want to be if you don’t have good people in your corner rooting for your success. Hello again and welcome to the next episode of Level Up, the podcast that focuses on leadership, self improvement and continued growth throughout our everyday lives.  I'm Jose, your host and I am joined by my co-host, and the CEO of All-American Lumping LLC, one of the fastest growing national 3PL Logistics and Freight Handling companies in the U.S., Crystal Garcia. Last week we discussed "Defining Success"…how we define success for ourselves.  What that looks like for us as individuals and we also touched on failure and what that looks like as well.  You can't have one without the other, right? Today we are going show you how you can be a "Goal Digger".  Not a Gold Digger.  But a GOAL DIGGER  So first thing's first, what the hell is a GOAL Digger? Read Excerpt: Neffi, a blogger posted in the Buzz Blog that… A “GOAL digger” …is someone who is ambitious and clear of the things they want. Goal diggers have dreams, goals and aspirations for independence, success, and their version of happiness. They “dig in” and do the work to become the person they strive to be. Being a “GOAL digger” is all mindset. It's the basic of setting goals for your life and doing what it takes to achieve them. Whether they are goals set in your education, your career, your personal life, or some other area. You are setting goals for whatever it is you desire that will define success to you. Tackling obstacles and burdens that may get in your way, being determined, persevering, sometimes a little suffering with blood, sweat, and tears. A GOAL digger never stops working towards their goals. What have you done to get better today? Q: What do you think about Neffi's definition of a Goal Digger? Goals provide you with direction, purpose and motivation.  They are the destination in the your mental GPS that allows to see where you want to go in life or business.  Without goals, you're just aimlessly moving through life, business is just one sale after another without any true purpose.  This can be frustrating if you are trying to achieve something specific. This typically ends in frustration, disappointment and in severe cases, depression. Q: How did you overcome that obstacle and how were you able to double your earning potential in just a few months?   Q: Have you ever tried to achieve something without having a specific goal in mind?  What happened and how did that play out?  One of the three critical criteria for being a Goal Digger, is that a Goal Digger sets VERY, VERY SPECIFIC goals.  The more specific the better.  A vague or wishy-washy goal is nothing more than a desire.  A lot of people have heard about SMART goals, SMART being: S-Specific, M-Measurable, A-Attainable, R-Relevant, T-Timebound Another way to look at it is through the PURE format which is: P-Positive, U-Under your control, R-Right sized, E-Ecological Q: How do you set goals to achieve what you want to achieve in your personal life?  Professionally?  In business? Example of weak goals (Desire)  I wanna new car  I wanna bigger house I want a better job I want to lose weight Example of strong goals  I want a 6-Series Covnertibel BMW M3 I want a 4 BR home in Manteca with a pool and it must be close to a good school I want a position as an Operations Manager for Walmart making $95K a year with good bennies I want to lose 30 pounds of fat and gain 10 pounds of muscle, dropping my waistline from a 42 to 32  When goals are not quantifiable how can you assign value? I want to be happy as I was when I was in college Q: Have you ever set a goal without a timeline?  Did you achieve that goal?  Have you ever over achieved a goal that you set that was too low?  What did you learn from the process?Example of poor timelines  One of these days  Eventually Next year Putting your goals in writing is a great way to commit to yourself what you intend to accomplish.  People who write down their goals are almost 42% more likely to achieve their goals. Q: Do you commit your goals to writing?  What does that look like?  How often are they revisited?  Do you only do this for business or also personally?  How has this impacted your success? Journaling Balanced Scorecard Strategic Objectives  Q: Have you failed to achieve a goal you set?  Why did you fail and what did you learn from that failure?   Read Quote:  Darren Hardy says, "If you are not making the progress that you would like to make and are capable of making, it is simply because your goals are not clearly defined"  Q:  Either of you set goals got 2021 yet?  What will that look like? As we bring the infamous 2020 year to a close in just a matter of weeks, many of you will begin setting the same old new years resolutions you always set.  You know, Lose weight, save money, travel more, etc.  We've all done it. This year, I challenge you to do a few things differently.  Take out your pen and paper or write this down in a note app: Set a simple theme for the year.  This year our theme is Health and Wealth.  Last year it was "Show up and Be Present" in honor of one of Crystal's very close friend that passed.  (Crystal can add) Your theme can be what ever 1 or 2 things are most important for you that you plan on focusing on.  Use this theme to align your decisions throughout the year.  Regularly discuss your theme with you power circle and hold each other accountable when you are not acting in alignment of that theme.Set SMART and specific goals that align with your WHY and your values.  For example, my WHY is family.  My value is also family, one of my goals for 2021 is going to be to visit my son in Texas in February of this year.  I am also going to take go on a family vacation to Costa Rica in July of this year, if COVID allows.  Write your theme and your goals for this year down.  If you are able too, I recommend purchasing the "Living Your Best Year Ever" journal, designed by Darren hardy.  You can purchase it on Amazon for about $35, the link is provided below.  It will definitely help you fine tune your goal setting process and allow you to become a better GOAL DIGGER.  But just writing it down on paper in notebook or on a note app like OneNote, or even sending yourself an email with your goals outlined, you will have a greater chance of accomplishing that goal.  This year, set the right goals and make sure the goals are right for you. ★ Support this podcast on Patreon ★

What goals were met, and what fell short with area for improvement. We look at what existing and new goals we are setting for 2021, and ways that we can stay accountable to meet them. We review keys to making and achieving goals by setting S.M.A.R.T. criteria. S - Specific. Make goals less vague. Rather than "I'm going to lose weight." try "I'm going to lose five pounds. M - Measurable. With something we can measure we can track progress. By stating 5lbs as our goal we can measure how much we've lost and how much we have left to lose. A - Attainable. By keeping the goal something that is realistic and attainable we have something we can actually reachable. Rather than arbitrarily stating I'm going to loose 30lbs would cause possible health issues, make it very difficult or even impossible to reach based on my height, weight and BMI. R - Relavant. Goals need to make sense to me, and be relevant to me and my life. I'd like to lose some of the weight brought on by the pandemic, and being at home snacking all the time. I'd like my Medium-Sized shirts to fit more comfortably. This is totally relevant to me. It makes sense. T - Time Sensitive. If we can have specific, and measurable goals, we need a way to keep motivated, and review progress. By keeping a goal time-bound, we don't keep extending the goal and become a contestant Someday Isle. Ya know, I'll get that someday? "Someday I'll lose the weight." Get voted off the Island, and set a timeframe for the goal, and perhaps periodic milestones along they way. Today I want to talk a bit about the importance of building your own platform online, and a method I used to kill the procrastination that many people suffer from.    When Jerry Seinfeld was an up-and-coming comedian, he made a commitment to write one joke a day. Just one funny line, nothing huge.    He had a big calendar of the whole year on a wall in his apartment. Every time he wrote a joke, he put a red X on that date.   Before long he had a growing chain of red X's on the calendar — a visual reminder of the consistent work he put in.   What kept him motivated each day was the fear of breaking the chain. DON'T BREAK THE CHAIN.    I had a new year's resolution of creating 2 podcasts a week for the whole year in 2020, and we are nearly half way through the year and I'm up to Episode 47 now.    What inspired me was when I heard Steven Larsen saying he hated the idea of publishing initially, but once he finally committed to it it changed his life.    It might sound old school but the key to finally making it happen was creating a SMART goal.   S = Specific   M = Measurable   A = Achievable   R = Relevant   T = Time-based

I’m sharing how to succeed in what you want by setting SMART goals. Today we’re going to discuss New Year’s resolutions. It’s customary to pick things we’d like to accomplish by the end of the year, but oftentimes a few weeks into the year we fail miserably at it. We fail because we don’t set ourselves up for success in achieving those goals. To reach these goals, they need to be SMART goals.  SMART goals have five key elements: S- Specific. For example, you want to be faster, better, or increase something definitive. You don’t want vague objectives. Saying, “I want to lose weight” isn’t well-defined enough.  M- Measurable. How do you know if you’re succeeding? What measure are you using to determine success? You need to know whether you’re making progress.  A- Attainable. If you set a goal you can’t accomplish, what’s the point? You can break up a larger objective into smaller pieces that are easier to achieve. R- Realistic. This has to be something you can accomplish in your life, a feasible change. You need to be able to attain growth in your goal.  T- Timed. For example, “I’m going to lose 30 pounds by the end of April.” An easier way to do this is to ground yourself in why you want to reach this objective: “I’m going to lose 30 pounds by the end of April so I can enjoy better health.”  If you would like to talk more about SMART goals or other real estate topics, I would love to hear from you. With just days before the new year, your host, Dan Neumann, figured it’d be the perfect time to discuss New Year’s resolutions! Many people set New Year’s resolutions, but the problem is: they don’t keep them. Some research even says that only 8% of people actually achieve the goal they’ve set out for. Many of these goals don’t even reach a two-week shelf life before many people give up.   But why is this? In today’s podcast, Dan Neumann sets out to find the answer! WHY IS GETTING HEALTHY SO HARD? How is it that we can be so good at setting and achieving our goals in every area of our life, but yet, continue to struggle over and over again when it comes to our health related goals? If you’re like most people, you’re successful at every area of your life except lingering health related issues. Maybe it’s an unhealthy weight, diabetes, high blood pressure, cholesterol, fatigue, mismanaged stress, or a lack of sleep. It’s something that lingers every year. How can this be? How is it that a successful person like yourself, who has a thriving business, family, and interpersonal life struggle with something as trivial as weight or sleep? THE ANSWER LIES IN GOAL SETTING. The truth is, that you already know everything there is to know about goal setting — that’s how you’ve become so successful in the first place. By applying these same principles to your health, you can have the healthiest year ever in 2018. Have you ever thought about what determines whether something happens or doesn’t happen in your life? The truth is, we never make time in our lives for things that are “shoulds”… WE ONLY HAVE TIME IN OUR LIFE FOR THINGS THAT ARE “MUSTS”. For example, you may think “I should be a better parent…a better father…. a better husband”. Shoulds never make it in our day to day activities. Only musts do. The things that you do every day are the things that you’ve made a must. My guess is there are things in your life right now that you want to change, but you’ve allowed yourself to tolerate them for way too long. You have the power to both create things that add to your life, and to take out the things that take away from your best life. ONLY SMART GOALS DONE. Each letter in the acronym SMART has a specific and powerful purpose. S: Specific. Clarity is power. Our brains are designed to crave simplicity and clarity. Complexity is the enemy of execution. The most important variable in goal setting is having a specific desired outcome already identified. M: Measurable. You can manage what you don’t measure. It’s very important to have specific milestone and measurements that you are tracking to measure your success. A: Achievable. If your goal is achievable, you will gain momentum. Momentum is one of the most important variables in goal achieving and breakthrough. R: Realistic. Achievable goals are important, but you also want them to be realistic so that you can capture quick wins. T: Timed. A goal without a timeframe is just an idea, a thought, or a wish. If goals don’t have timelines, they just don’t get done. We all need accountability, and setting a specific time limit to your goals can determine whether you achieve them or not. AND IT STARTS WITH POWERFUL DECISION MAKING. In order to move the needle in a massive way this year towards the healthiest version of yourself, you must master the steps to powerful decision making. First, know your target. Your target is your desired outcome. Get as specific as possible with what you want. Clarity is power – get crystal clear on your priorities. Second, know your why. Knowing your why provides you with purpose, and purpose gives you the drive to complete your goal. This is very, very critical. In Part 1 we discussed having a plan. In Part 2 we discussed reviewing and revising our plan on a regular basis. Today, in Part 3 we are discussing S.M.A.R.T Planning. "The SMART acronym first appeared in the November 1981 issue of Management Review. "There's a S.M.A.R.T. way to write management goals and objectives." was the title and it was written by George Doran, Arthur Miller, and James Cunningham." according to smart-goals-guide.com. According to the same source: "When the S.M.A.R.T goal was first introduced to the world it was an acronym which stood for: S. - Specific M. - Measurable A. – Assignable R. - Realistic T. – Time-based - In other words when you set a goal you had to ensure it was specific, measurable, assignable, realistic and time-based." Here are some other words that came be used to perhaps make it better fit your needs. Setting Goals is the Key to Success 2nd of 5 At the root of all success is a vision and intention. We must learn to set achievable goals. I lead teams. I lead meetings. I teach leaders to lead. I can see the end result, because I have defined it clearly. I set a goal to be in shape. I have expressed the goal in terms of running a certain distance in a certain amount of time. I can't accomplish that goal without the following: The belief that I will succeed... A description of what it looks like when I have succeeded... A long-term vision... Short-term goals... A weekly schedule... A daily plan of action... That works for my work, as well as for my running. What about your work? What about your life? Goals are SMART! S = Specific M = Measurable A = Accountable R = Realistic T = Timed Note to the frantic and weary: The "A" for accountable provides the traction that makes goals work.
