My friend, Judi Daniels joins me on this podcast. I've learned so much about suffering from Judi. Judi has Stage 4 cancer. She's had multiple surgeries. She's also one of the most crazy, spontaneous, joy-filled, celebratory, grateful people I know. For those who have ears to hear . . .Support the show (http://patreon.com/johnvoelz)
I was recently interviewed on the, Humans With Faith podcast with Scott Rodgers. Here is part two of that interview. I think this is an important conversation for anyone in ministry for sure but, I also think anyone who is simply interested in art and creativity is going to enjoy this. In this episode, we dive deeper into the place of art in church and culture, building relationship with artists, leading artists, and the unhelpful stereotypes of artists. We talk about good ways forward for a thriving art culture.Support the show (http://patreon.com/johnvoelz)

My friend, Sean and I recently went to a think-tank together in the San Juan Islands. Our wives didn't go. We starting talking about our wives and how we missed them and we decided to plug in a microphone and keep chatting. Sean and Holly have been married over 25 years. Tahni and I are going on 32. I thought it would be fun to occasionally talk to some everyday people that I find fun, interesting, and compelling. I want to talk about their life stories and their spiritual voyage. Today I'll talk with Gina. Gina's story is one of tragedy and triumph. She has survived cancer. Twice. Her father committed suicide when she was young. Her partner took her own life. In the thick of the deep pain and stress Gina put on an incredible amount of weight. At her highest weight she was 331 pounds. She has since lost over 170 pounds of that weight. She has recently renewed relationships that have been torn. Over the past two years, Gina's spiritual voyage has been a celebration of renewed relationship, restoration, and a fresh look at her identity. I love talking with Gina. We all want to make sense of life. So, phrases are often used like, "Everything happens for a reason" or "It must have been God's will." But, is that true? Is that honest? Is that helpful? Let's talk.Support the show (http://patreon.com/johnvoelz)
Mom guilt sucks. Everyday, good moms pour themselves into their families and end up drained and feeling like they didn't do enough, didn't do it right, didn't do it well, or any number of horrible and crippling feelings based on expectations of others or, self-inflicted expectations. My guests on this podcast are Alyson Johns, Renae Rodocker, and Karysa Trombley--real, transparent women who are willing to show their scars. Some of the greatest moms I know.Support the show (http://patreon.com/johnvoelz)
How to be a good human. How to live well in public. Common courtesies are skills that are expected of human beings because we walk upright. Different than pet peeves. Pet peeves are things that bug you that may not be rational to someone else. Courtesies include manners, public expectations, understanding the use of space, and cleanliness expectations, etc. My guest on this episode is my friend, Alisha Wilson.Support the show (http://patreon.com/johnvoelz)

People ask me all the time what I think about the, "war on Christmas." Sometimes, people tell me how they stand their ground and refuse to say, "Happy Holidays." People often assume that because I follow Jesus and I'm a pastor, I am a soldier in the "keep Christ in Christmas" brigade. When a few have taken the time to hear my thoughts, they are often surprised. So . . .Support the show (http://patreon.com/johnvoelz)
I suffer with depression and anxiety. I'm also a pastor. I have felt tremendous amounts of unnecessary guilt and I've bought a few lies along the way in regard to depression and anxiety. I've found some helpful tools. I've learned a few things. I want to talk about it.Support the show (http://patreon.com/johnvoelz)
