Last year (2023) a conversation about creativity and innovation around art started about a great artist. The Picasso Celebration 1973-2023: 50th anniversary of the death of Pablo Picasso. This celebration triggered the desire to bring the amazing art of Picasso over to the United States to stimulate interaction with businesses and education and encourage creativity.Karl talks to Andy Martinez, the President of the TECC (Texas European Chamber of Commerce) and their plans to bring over to Texas some wonderful pieces of art by Picasso.LEARN MORE: The Business of the Art - Creativity and Innovation Inspiration - BCN News Pablo Picasso from Malaga (10/25/1881 - 04/08/1973), as loved in Spain as in France, and internationally.Pablo Picasso was a multiple creator, he equally dominated the classical painting of his early years, as well as engraving, lithographic printing and other pictorial techniques. He painted from ceramics to an allegorical mural to peace, such as his 'Guernica'. And he was not alien to sculptural creation. His work is that of a complete creator. His inspiration always found him working on a new work. He placed the cubist avant-garde ahead of his contemporary fellow artists. He was a tireless worker. He played all the styles and had time to dance, go to the bullfights and surround himself in very Spanish parties with his best friends. He was also a skillful negotiator of his art.

In this sermon we encourage people to desire and express the creative flow that comes from God. God is the Master Creative-Artist. We learn that we are created in God's image, created to be creative. All of us can be creative in one or more ways. Creative expressions can serve many purposes including adoration, revelation, restoration, communication, and demonstration. We must desire, recognize, stir up, capture and express inspiration (or the creative flow) that comes from God. Desire the creative flow that comes from God to make a meaningful difference in whatever you do or are engaged in. You can help me cover licensing, hosting, streaming, editing, and royalty fees by visiting this PayPal link right here.Dante the pilgrim and (shockingly!) Virgil have made it to the first terrace of Purgatory proper, although they (and we?) are still not sure exactly what's going on. All we know is that the terrace has gorgeous carvings in the white marble.Join me, Mark Scarbrough, as we look at the first of these carvings that will help us understand the penance ahead--and more importantly, help us understand Dante's theory of art, developed over the central cantos of PURGATORIO.Here are the segments for this episode of WALKING WITH DANTE:[01:18] My English translation of the passage: PURGATORIO, Canto X, lines 28 - 45. If you'd like to read along or drop a comment to continue the conversation, please go to my website, markscarbrough.com.[03:18] Who was Polykleitos? What does Dante know of him? And how does this artist relate to "nature," the "child" of God.[06:13] The first image in the marble is revealed through periphrasis, despite its inherent realism.[11:24] "Ave" is an inversion of "Eva"--or Eve, from the garden of Eden. The fall in Genesis and the consequence of death lie at the bottom of this passage.[14:42] Dante appears to favor very realistic art.[15:50] The art here is rather spare--or at least sparely described.[17:03] Dante appears to favor didactic (or moral) art.[17:46] Dante's theory of art is that creativity builds off what's come before.[22:30] To put "historical" matter in an imaginative space is to compromise the historicity of the matter.[25:57] The unknowable is embellished by art, a most human gesture.[28:38] Rereading the passage: PURGATORIO, Canto X, lines 28 - 45.
My guest today has lived, well, a life like no other. The writer Jennifer Clement grew up in 1960s Mexico, at the tail end of the Mexican Golden Age, next door to the former home and extended family of seminal artist Frida Kahlo. As a teenager she moved to New York, where she inhabited the artistic downtown world of Jean-Michel Basquiat, Keith Haring and Andy Warhol. She was - and still is - a magnet for the creative and surreal. But Mexico had her heart. Since returning to Mexico City, she has written many books, including the cult classic Widow Basquiat and Prayers for the Stolen which became an award-winning Netflix film. Jennifer was also the first and only woman president of the writers human rights organisation PEN International in its 100+ year history. In her memoir, The Promised Party, Jennifer looks back at an extraordinary youth spent with artists and revolutionaries, and examines the way it shaped her.Jennifer joined me from her home in Mexico City to talk about playing in Frida Kahlo's bathtub and why Kahlo's art speaks to so many women, why so much women's art is still sidelined, and how she developed a passion ethic not a work ethic. We also discussed rebellion, running away, the power of girlfriends, how acting on dreams can change your life and why her mother has been taking HRT for 50 (yes five oh) yearsIf you loved this episode, you might also like my conversations with Isabel Allende and Esther Freud.* You can buy all the books mentioned in this podcast at The Shift bookshop on Bookshop.org, including The Promised Party by Jennifer Clemenet and the book that inspired this podcast, The Shift: how I lost and found myself after 40 - and you can too, by me.* And if you'd like to support the work that goes into making this podcast and get a weekly newsletter plus loads more content including exclusive transcripts of the podcast, why not join The Shift community, come and have a look around at www.theshiftwithsambaker.substack.com• The Shift (on life after 40) with Sam Baker is created and hosted by Sam Baker and edited by Juliette Nicholls @ Pineapple Audio Production. “What I discovered eventually was to use all your resources to get as much support as you can, it makes a huge difference to everybody. And give up on asking people for help that don't want to help you” - Esther Freud. Motherhood is an intense period of introspection and change. For some, these may be ideal conditions for creative inspiration to strike, but it comes with immense demands on time, money and energy. For the Wheeler Centre's M/OTHER series, writer and musician Edwina Preston, British novelist Esther Freud and musician and mother Thndo explored the ideas and complications behind balancing art-making and motherhood. Together with host, Radio National presenter Hilary Harper, they delved into pertinent and honest questions about the roles of mother and artist, the barriers to creativity placed upon them by caregiving, and what structures can be put in place to better support mothers pursuing creative careers. This event was recorded on Saturday 4 March 2023 at the Wheeler Centre as part of M/OTHER: a weekend of fearless conversation about the ways ‘motherhood' is experienced, portrayed and labelled by those who mother, have been mothered, wish they were mothers, do not identify as mothers, cannot or do not want to mother, and by society at-large. The official bookseller for M/OTHER was Neighbourhood Books. How do humans relinquish their potential to limited man-made systems like technology, economy, etc? That's the big question to be explored as Dr. Canute White talk with Michaell Magrutsche My guest is an outside-the-box thinker. He has the ability to resolve paradoxes like why are 95% of worldwide artists existing around the poverty level and therefore should be proud to be poor. According to Michaell, “without creativity there are no man-made systems, there would be no world as we know it.” What's the solution? The solution: My guest discovered patterns within Art that foster creative communication and identify art values outside any systems which always raise our human potential. #usingart #creativesolutions #humanspotential Guest's Links: https://twitter.com/michaellart https://michaellm.com/ Now, subscribe to our YouTube channel ( https://youtube.com/channel/UCoc-QGLBLQxIYRa7N-OaRqA). Today we have something a little different for you. Last week LeeAnn was traveling and didn't have time to record with me, so I dug into our archives and dusted off an interview I did with Jennie Marie Studio that I recorded about a year ago. Jennie's made a name for herself hand painting glass candle votives. Most of them feature Star Wars scenes, but she's also been known to do Marvel, DC, and lord of the rings. If you follow me on Instagram, you'll have seen my unboxing video of the custom commission she painted for me depicting the dark and brutal relationship between Obi-Wan Kenobi and Darth Maul. It's truly a masterpiece. Follow Jennie's instagram @jenniemariestudio In this interview, we discuss everything from Jennie's formal art training in Florence, to how the American school system didn't work for our creative brains, to how her teenage love for Luke Skywalker eventually led to her current business venture painting custom votives. We had a fabulous time recording this and ended up chatting for almost 3 hours. This is a shortened version, but if you'd like to listen to the full conversation, please consider joining our Patreon where we post complete interviews, episode extras, and so much more.

Art and creativity can be a useful way of opening our awareness. So many moments in our lives can leave us feeling disconnected and out of touch. Today we talk about how engaging our creative side can help us slow down and open to possibility. We name our own struggles with feeling vulnerable and inadequate. And we share our moments of feeling like we've broken through the veil in order to encounter the Divine. We hope you'll join us as we engage in the reality that art is everywhere, painted into the very fabric of our world. #Poetry #Retreat #Labyrinth #Mandala #Vulnerability #MovementMeditation #Crafts #Haiku #Color #Chakras #VisioDivinaFor Transcript:Go to the "Transcript" Tab.If you are in a player that does not have the Transcript Tab, use the link below:Sign up for our newsletter here: https://foundrysc.com/connect/newsletter

Today's podcast is about finding creativity and inspiration through wine.In this episode we sit down with Jean-Charles Boisset to discuss his vision of wine through art, and how we might be closer than ever to the vineyards through the Metaverse.I consider Jean-Charles Boisset to be an artist who embraces so many facets of the wine industry, expressing it through jewelry, art, perfume, and entertainment.Jean-Charles Boisset was born into the world of wine in the village of Vougeot (Burgundy), France—the heart and birthplace of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. His lifelong passion for wine began early, having grown up on the family's estate winery, Domaine de la Vougeraie, located within view of the centuries-old vineyards of Château du Clos de Vougeot.Jean-Charles' passion for California and California wineries endowed with history, heritage and a pioneering spirit led him to Sonoma County in 2003, where he purchased DeLoach Vineyards, an early producer of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Zinfandel in the esteemed Russian River Valley. This set to motion further purchases of distinct wineries and destinations in the Napa Valley and Sonoma County, including Raymond Vineyards, Buena Vista Winery, Oakville Grocery, and in 2021 The Ink House Luxury Inn and Elizabeth Spencer Winery in Rutherford.Since 2016, Bottled in China brings you into the food and drink scene through conversations with the some of the most happening personalities. Hosted by Emilie Steckenborn, the show is your one spot for all things food, beer, wine and spirits from across the world. "At some point a friend looked at all of my work and he said: “You know that out of 100% of things you are doing only 20% of that is fashion and yet you call yourself a fashion illustrator?” I had to see this with my in my own eyes to understand. It's so hard to realise things about yourself, it's so easy for someone else to see things about you. And if they are true friends, they will tell you. And if you are smart enough and courageous and if you are not stubborn you will allow to see yourself through others eyes and maybe learn something. I realised that I have built my name and my confidence in these confines and didn't know where to go from there. The funny thing is once I let go of defining myself as a fashion illustrator everything opened up. It may sound cliché but really the only limitation that we have is in our head. The second I said goodbye to fashion I was an interior designer, I was a landscape artist, I was the canvas artist, I was the digital artist and that's how the phrase THE WORLD IS MY CANVAS was born." If you want to connect or suggest people for an interview write to me on beinganddoing.podcast@gmail.com In this episode I am talking to the wonderful Shira Barzilay (@koketit) and there are so many insights that I will have to devote several posts to this wonderful woman!@koketit is an Isreali born artist and illustrator. As a young girl, she fell in love with the smells of paint and turpentine wafting through the air of her aunt's studio. With a love for storytelling she explored various avenues of self-expression. Following her studies she embodied a ‘more is more' aesthetic. Over time, she understood that though her work, she could say more by doing less. Her journey began to manifest as she incorporated a subtractionist methodology to her work. At the start of her newfound appreciation for minimalism, she endured growing pains of removing elements from her work, until she reached a point where the initial draft didn't consist of many lines to start. Using Picasso as her guiding light, she shares his belief, “Art is the elimination of the unnecessary.” Primarily she creates digital prints, in an attempt to reveal the unseen. You can connect with her and enjoy her art by visiting her web page www.koketit.comWith love,Aleks
