Tess Charles, hailing from the Capital Isle of Grand Turk in the Turks & Caicos Islands and with Jamaican and Vincentian heritage, shared her remarkable journey to stardom. After three years of headlining TCI's hottest events and successfully serving as the executive producer of her first Jazz and Soul show in November 2015, TESS made the bold decision to transition into a full-time performer. While she channels the soulful tunes of legends like Nina Simone and Ella Fitzgerald, TESS draws inspiration from her island influences to create her original music. Her versatility is evident as she delves into Soca and Rip Saw, releasing her self-written track "Daa'n My Business" on the "Grace Bay Riddim," produced by Jovano "Stutters" Robinson, a native of Middle Caicos, TCI. Tess Charles is a multi-talented artist who refuses to be confined to a single genre. She remains dedicated to her love for Jazz and Soul, and she aims to keep the world grooving to her music while introducing them to the distinctive TCI flavor of Rip Saw. With plans of having our own families how do we go about creating a legacy for them? What kind of values are we hoping will be evident in our own legacy? • How would we define ourselves? When you embrace your singleness it isn't always an easy thing to do because you can feel unfulfilled on your own. The best piece of advice given is "to live a full single life because once your single days are enjoyable, they will make your married days even more enjoyable." In this weeks episode, Ziggy and Lori set down with Travel Expert and Director Of Philanthropy and Luxury Travel Advisor at Traveluxe Johnna Messam where they shared their experiences going through their season of singleness. Often times "Singleness" look at it from a “lonely” and negative perspective. However, on this episode the discussion looked it from a place of optimism, self-care, self-love, healing and dating; exploring different avenues and dating outside the Turks pool. If you are going through a Season of Singleness, this is an episode that will change your perspective of how you grow through that experience. For this week's episode, the ladies took a deep dive into what it means to be a man in today's society with Teray Smith and Aulden Smith. We arguably live in a patriarchal and hierarchical society. As a result, some people think that men cannot be victims. After all a society which operates this way should be favourable to men. But this is not the case. Al and Teray shared their experiences in growing up in today's world, what shaped and molded them into manhood, the influence black culture had on their perspectives, the influence of role model along with other pressing issues modern day men face. It's a myth that men do not face obstacles. As Julie Zeilinger explains: ‘Even with ever-present privilege, men face their own set of destructive barriers that restrict what it means to be a man and how a man can express himself. This is especially true for men who are also members of marginalized groups.'Do men have the space to be vulnerable? How can women approach men from a place of compassion and offer support / be a support system? – do men have a strong support system? What is something men wish women knew about them? This episode was a shift in the series, especially for Ziggy as she sat in the seat that our guest sat in to confront her struggles with being Vulnerable. Ziggy and Loren both realized that to truly connect with their audience, they too have to “Get Candid” about their lives and journeys. Both of them showed the world parts of themselves no one has ever heard before, even close friends and family. They spoke about the willingness to come to a place of confidence to accept that their stories are not perfect but raw, sensitive and at times painful. In her new book, Daring Greatly, Brené Brown describes vulnerability as "uncertainty, risk, and emotional exposure." It's that unstable feeling we get when we step out of our comfort zone or do something that forces us to loosen control. Throughout the discussion Ziggy was noticeably uncomfortable as she confronted her struggles with opening up. Loren with her “empathic persona” created the perfect environment for Ziggy to conquer her fears. This was one of the most powerful episodes of the season. Entrepreneur and Fashion Designer Cyprianna Jackson souvenir luxury line bēchë recently gained worldwide attention by being featured in British Vogue's May issue. Bēchë Turks and Caicos lets you embrace the euphoric sense of TCI's exotic tropical islands. On this episode of Let's Get Candid, Mrs. Jackson sat down with Lori and Ziggy and opened up about her journey with embracing her femininity. In the course of the discussion, Lori, Mary and Cyprianna defined oversexualization, the evolution of the perception of women dating from the 15th century to current day, the impact mainstream media has on body images and the insecurities it generates, the mental health impact and being sexualized in public settings and in relationships. The conversation took a dive into the “sensuality vs. sexuality” debate where they examined how their feminine attributes are viewed in a professional setting (i.e. not being taken serious, unwanted attention, and their worth being tied to their physical appearances as oppose to their intellectual capacity.). They also explored the balance between sensuality and modesty; defining the characteristics of a sensual and modest woman and how they both impact your search for meaningful relationship. Amid the discussion, Mrs. Jackson opened up about her fashion swimwear line bēchë and also revealed the process her and her husband went through before marriage. Welcome to the Premiere of Let's Get Candid. During this episode Ziggy and Lori spoke about the importance of Let's Get Candid and why we should rethink the way we have conversation. They spoke about sisterhood, creating and strengthening strong relationships and forging new partnerships. The discussion touched on these key areas: • Self-awareness: doing the work to understand ourselves (the good and the bad), acceptance and forgiveness extended towards self, and self-reflection. • Entering the job market after living abroad - the process of gaining employment (over vs under qualified), settling for a job or creating a career? - are we being admitted because of our merits or connections? Or a bit of both? • Relevance - Popularity vs Influence vs Impact - overlooking persons who might be influential and impactful because they aren't popular, giving fair chances across the board to scout and develop new talent. What are we being influenced to do? The show also features a special segment called “Whatchu Know about us? Where the host and guest answer random questions about a bowl.
