Satire has become reality. Andrew Doyle is a playwright, broadcaster and creator of the Twitter persona Titania McGrath. Five years on from the publication of Titania McGrath's acclaimed book Woke: A Guide to Social Justice, Andrew cannot decide whether to find it funny or depressing that so many of Titania's ideas in that book ended up becoming reality. “Is the trans movement anti-gay?” In honor of Pride Month, Peter Boghossian begins this conversation with an investigation into the increasing rejection of trans ideology by the LGB (without the T) community. Peter's guest is Andrew Doyle, acclaimed author, comedian, and host of Free Speech Nation on GB News. Here's an important piece of information to better understand this conversation: Andrew is gay.Andrew explains the impact the trans movement has inflicted on gay people over the last several years, including the rise of abusive language toward gays he “hasn't seen since the ‘80s." Lesbians are labelled “sexual racists” or “transphobes” if they reject trans women as partners. (The same is true for gay men rejecting trans men—that is, women—but the abuse is not as pervasive.) Peter and Andrew discuss the incoherence of gender ideology, the nature of sexual attraction, how predators manipulate gender self-ID, and the sterilization of gay youth. Also discussed: Bad woke art, sensitivity readers, primary education, censorship, standpoint epistemology, critical thinking, the long history of human fantasy and folly, and more. Andrew Doyle is a journalist, playwright, satirist, and comedian. He is the creator of Titania McGrath, “a radical intersectionalist poet committed to feminism, social justice and armed peaceful protest.” He is the host of Free Speech Nation and an unabashed lover of art and literature.Watch this conversation on YouTube!
My guest today is Andrew Doyle. Andrew is a British comedian, writer, and political commentator. He's best known for creating and writing the satirical character Titania McGrath, a fictional social justice warrior who parodies extreme progressive activism. Doyle is also a frequent contributor to The Spectator, Spiked, and many other publications, where he writes on topics related to free speech, political correctness, and social justice. He's also written several books including "Woke: A Guide to Social Justice" which he wrote in character as Titania and "Free Speech And Why It Matters" which he wrote as himself. In addition to his work as a writer, Doyle has also performed a stand-up comedy and appeared on various TV and radio programs in the UK. This was a really fun and wide-ranging conversation about a bunch of different topics, and I hope you all enjoy it as much as I did.

This past week in Canada, a controversy erupted around the National Arts Centre's plans to reserve an upcoming theatre performance for Black audience members only, with many questioning why any organization would want to open the door for racial segregation, in any form. (And indeed, since this podcast was recorded, the NAC has issued an updated press release, indicating “everyone is welcome at all our shows.”) It's the latest example of a movement that, as my guest on today's program argues, presents itself as progressive — when in fact, its ideas are deeply regressive. Andrew Doyle is a British broadcaster, writer, and comedian. He shot to fame with his satirical Twitter account, Titania McGrath, but has since become known for hosting the GB News show Free Speech Nation. In "The New Puritans: How the Religion of Social Justice Captured the Western World," Andrew Doyle reveals the similarities between the destructive irrationality of 17th-century witch trials (and executions) in Salem and the illiberal collective mania afflicting modern society. Peter Boghossian interviews Doyle about themes explored, including the sly use of progressive language by Social Justice activists, the infection of major institutions, new segregation, “academic shibboleths,” gender stereotypes, trans medical scandals, whistleblowers, the meaning of “left” and “right” ideology, the instinct for authoritarianism and much more. They have their own sacred texts, their own high priests, blasphemy, unspeakable words, rites of passage, heathens and practises of sacrilege. So much so that the behaviour of many social justice activists in 2022 seems to echo very closely the behaviour of the Salem Witch Trials in 1692. Is western society in the grips of a progressive hysterical epidemic comparable to the Salem Witch Trials? My guest on Holy Smoke this week, Andrew Doyle, argues precisely that in his book The New Puritans. He suggests that gender ideology, and particularly the dogmas of trans activists, together with the fantasies of Critical Race Theory, are dragging society into an alternative reality that resembles a fanatical religion. But it's one that doesn't have to employ its own ideological police – because actual police forces, along with other powerful institutions including the churches, have signed up to the New Puritanism (usually without understanding it). Andrew Doyle has a doctorate in Renaissance poetry from Oxford University, so he's well acquainted with the postmodern manipulation of language and epistemology that equip proponents of so-called cancel culture. He'e also someone the new puritans would dearly love to cancel, in his roles as broadcaster, comedian and the creator of Titania McGrath, the hilarious Twitter parody account that's been suspended several times for poking fun at people who enjoy being satirised about as much as your average witchfinder-general. Don't miss my interview with the formidable Dr Doyle!

Free speech is not particularly fashionable these days. Indeed, this summer NPR's On the Media dedicated an entire episode to the topic without interviewing a single defender of free speech. With free speech skepticism on the rise, the new book Free Speech And Why It Matters could not be more timely, or more important. British comic Andrew Doyle initially found fame with his hilarious social justice warrior Twitter parody, Titania McGrath. But he's since become known as a crusader for free speech and the host of Free Speech Nation. In this conversation, Andrew Doyle walks through key arguments in favour of free speech and makes the case that the erosion of speech rights we've witnessed in recent years is destructive for democracy and human rights — and awful for art.
THIS IS A RE-UPLOAD FROM JANUARY 2020. Titania McGrath is a parody Twitter account created and run by comedian and Spiked columnist Andrew Doyle. He describes her as "a militant vegan who thinks she is a better poet than William Shakespeare." Andrew chatted to me about the importance of satire and why postmodernism is destructive and an absolute tragedy of reason. Woke culture, an offshoot of postmodernism, is a mindset steeped in racism, sexism, censorship, intolerance, bullying, and narcism. It's about gaining power through feigning grievances.

Andrew Doyle, author, satirist and creator of the social media sensation "Titania McGrath", returns to the #SWYSI sofa to discuss his new book: "Free Speech And Why It Matters". (https://www.amazon.co.uk/Free-Speech-... ) Free speech is the bedrock of all our liberties, and yet in recent years it has come to be mistrusted. A new form of social justice activism, which perceives language as potentially violent, has prompted a national debate on where the limitations of acceptable speech should be drawn. Governments throughout Europe have enacted 'hate speech' legislation to curb the dissemination of objectionable ideas, Silicon Valley tech giants are collaborating to ensure that they control the limitations of public discourse, and campaigners in the US are calling for revisions to the First Amendment. However well-intentioned, these trends represent a threat to the freedoms that our ancestors fought and died to secure. In this incisive and fascinating book, Andrew Doyle addresses head-on the most common concerns of free speech sceptics, and offers a timely and robust defence of this most foundational of principles. Jonathan Kay interviews comedian, social critic, and book author Andrew Doyle on why he thinks government censors are a bigger threat to a free society than the bigots they’re seeking to cancel.
In this episode, Matthew talks to the comedian, journalist and political satirist - Andrew Doyle. Andrew is perhaps best known for being the co-creator of the fictional character Jonathan Pie and for being the man behind the Titania McGrath parody account on twitter. In part one Andrew talks about Titania in relation to the culture wars, the social justice movement and wokeism. In the second half of the interview Andrew discusses his new book 'Free speech and why it matters'.
Not since Barry Humphries donned a blue rinse wig and presented Dame Edna Everage to the world has there been a dame as outspoken as Twitter sensation Titania McGrath. She is a spoof of the current ‘cancel culture’ and springs from the imagination of Andrew Doyle. He took the name from Shakespeare’s Titania, Queen of the Faeries who believed in fantasies and applies them to the real world. But there is a serious side to the parody which Doyle discusses in his latest book examining free speech. He believes the question should not be about the substance or content, but rather about defending the bigger question of the freedom to say it. So, we invited Andrew Doyle onto Sputnik to discuss the changing landscape of free speech. In 2017, a bomb ripped through the Manchester Arena during an Ariana Grande concert. 22 people were sadly killed in the attack, and now four years on from the atrocity, a new law is set to bring a legal requirement for public places and venues to ensure preparedness for, and protection from, terrorist attacks. Martyn’s Law, named after Martyn Hett, who died in the bombing, is the result of campaigning by his mother, Figen Murray who has lobbied for proper security requirements and a duty to protect public spaces and venues, sadly missing from the Ariana Grande concert. Counter-terrorism expert Philip Ingram MBE came on to Sputnik to explain the mechanisms of Martyn’s law and discuss the failures highlighted during the ongoing Arena bombing inquiry.
Come to my old-fashioned chatroom on Thursday at 8pm GMT (noon in California): https://discord.gg/RWH7fs6ygb. It's free and no need to sign up! Hello, and welcome to another episode of On the Edge with Andrew Gold. Today, I’m talking – well actually I spoke to him a couple of weeks ago – to comedian Andrew Doyle, who has just released his new book Free Speech. It’s a modern manifesto on why free speech is so important, and how even extremely offensive speech should be protected. Andrew Doyle Links: https://twitter.com/andrewdoyle_com https://twitter.com/TitaniaMcGrath https://www.amazon.co.uk/Free-Speech-Why-Matters/dp/034913538X Andrew Gold Links: http://patreon.com/andrewgold http://twitter.com/andrewgold_ok http://instagram.com/andrewgold_ok It’s a really beautifully written essay, which draws on the history of free speech and how it is being eroded from all sides bit by bit. We’re all aware that history seems to go in cycles and you never know when you’re next going to be under some sort of authoritarian regime. According to Andrew, it rarely comes from the place you expect it, and he believes we’re very much at risk right now from the censors on the Left, although he is politically Left himself. In his book and on the podcast, Andrew speaks of former essays, such as John Stuart Mill’s On Liberty in 1859, and John Milton’s 1644 Areopagitica. Andrew was also a teacher and writers about all sorts of things, but you may know him as both the creator of fictional angry news reporter Jonathan Pie – although he is not the actor who plays him – and fictional twitter profile Titania McGrath. Titania is a fake creation who tweets to parody the beliefs and actions of critical race theorists or virtue signallers. Her Twitter bio reads: Activist. Healer. Radical intersectionalist poet. Nonwhite. Ecosexual. Pronouns: variable. Selfless and brave. Buy my books. Today, we are going to talk mostly about Andrew and his book. On the day I spoke to him, he had just come under a barrage of abuse from his critics, because he had blocked some of them in anticipation of the book. They believed it was ironic for an author a book on free speech to block those who opposed the book – and Andrew countered that, if they believed that, they had a poor understanding of free speech. Part of free speech is not having to listen to someone. We speak about the pressure of getting all that flack all the time on Twitter – people accusing him of absolutely every form of bigotry. I ask him what it’s like to be a gay man being accused so often of homophobia. And we talk freely about free speech.
In this episode, I discuss the concept of the Imago Dei and then go over some idiocy from the Oregon School System who thinks math is racist. Yes, math is racist. I then go over an incredible thread by Titania McGrath (link below) and talk about how if everything is racist, nothing is. It is a really amazing thread. Put that in your theological pipe and smoke it. And be nice.

What is "Black Propaganda", and how can you use it in your marketing? Catherine Genovese's story, borough of Queens in New York City, March 1964. Attacked and tortured for 35 minutes straight, before finally being killed. Out in public. 38 people watched. None raised a finger to help her. When asked why, they said it was because nobody else did. They thought that if something was really wrong, someone would have done something. They looked to the crowd for a clue on what to do. Masked Umbrella Man and the Autozone windows. The case of the mysterious pallets of bricks. Could be cops. Could be antifa. Nobody knows. Both have motive. Lead the parade theory. The Psychology Behind Mob Mentality When you act as an individual, you bare soul responsibility for your actions. When you act as a group, you share responsibility, and the blame doesn't fall squarely on your shoulders. Therefore, when you think of yourself as an individual, you're more likely to consider the consequences of your actions. And when you think of yourself as part of a group, you abdicate responsibility for your decision making to the group. People who see themselves as an individual tend to give more thought to an action before taking it. People who see themselves as part of a group tend to just go along with whatever the group is doing. Individuals have to be persuaded, one by one, with logical or emotionally convincing arguments. Groups just need a charismatic leader to get behind and blindly follow. The number one rule for making people easier to manipulate? Get them to identify as part of a group, rather than as an individual. When someone keeps beating you over the head with your group identity, that's a pretty good indication they're trying to manipulate you. What is "Black Propaganda"? Titania McGrath, Andrew Doyle, Satire becoming reality. People look to what the crowd is doing if they're uncertain of what they should do. People like us, like us. People who want to be like us, like us. Your testimonials should take this into account. They should come from people your market can identify with or aspire to be like. Customer reviews and social media reviews. Influencer marketing is another option. In today's environment, both are better than celebrity endorsements. If you can control the direction of the mob, either by leading it, or by framing it, you can control the direction of people who defer to the mob.
