However, the judge found that the article did not cause serious harm to Hijab, that what was published was substantially true, and that Hijab had ‘lied on significant issues' in court and had given evidence that ‘overall, is worthless'. Douglas Murray is a journalist and bestselling author of 8 books, including: On Democracies and Death Cults: Israel and the Future of Civilization (2025); The War on the West (2022); The Madness of Crowds: Gender, Race and Identity(2019); and The Strange Death of Europe: Immigration, Identity, Islam (2017). He has been a contributor to Spectator since 2000 and associate editor since 2012. He is a columnist at the New York Post and regularly writes for the Telegraph and the Sun. Mr. Murray is also a senior fellow at the Manhattan Institute and contributing editor of City Journal. On this episode of The One Way Ticket Show, we begin the conversation with Mr. Murray sharing his one way ticket back in time to Elizabethan England which he describes as the greatest period of the flowering of the English language. There, he would meet Shakespeare, attend performances at the Globe Theatre, and marvel at the Court of Queen Elizabeth I. We then delve into his latest book, On Democracies and Death Cults: Israel and the Future of Civilization and cover topics and thoughts, including: Vasily Grossman's quote from his book, Life and Fate: “Tell me what you accuse the Jews of, I'll tell you what you're guilty of” How many in the West don't understand that for Hamas and people like Sinwar, their war against Israel is a religiously motivated jihad It's a myth that all people – everywhere – want the same thing The extent to which and the consequences of populations being misled in closed societies Divorcing a performer's politics from their performance (and how it would be wonderful if actors just “shut up” about politics in the first place!) The strange landscape that is the (news) media today His break mechanism of: "Never forget how much damage can be done by willful optimism" Why he never talks about his next book project And much more . . . From a purely secular historical viewpoint, does Jesus of Nazareth fall within the category of Great Men? A unique 19th-century approach to the study of history was known as the 'Great Man' view of History, according to which history can be largely explained by the impact of great men, or heroes: highly influential and unique individuals who, due to their natural attributes, such as superior intellect, heroic courage, extraordinary leadership abilities or divine inspiration, have a decisive historical effect. In this new podcast episode, I speak to Dave Smith about issues pressing the new independent media landscape such as the role of experts and the rise of misinformation. The podcast is structured as a kind of formalized response to Sam Harris and Douglas Murray's recent podcast on the same subject which mentions Dave Smith throughout:Dave and I also delve into the complexities of terrorism, foreign policy, and the historical context of U.S. involvement in the Middle East. We discuss the double standards in defining terrorism, the grievances that fuel radicalization, and the implications of military actions taken by both the U.S. and Israel. The dialogue emphasizes the need for a nuanced understanding of these issues, the importance of negotiation over military intervention, and the challenges posed Links:Spotify / Apple(Video version will be up tomorrow)Chapters:00:00 Introduction to the Illusion of Consensus Podcast06:01 Debate Dynamics: Gad Saad and Douglas Murray12:04 The Role of Experts in Media18:01 Civil Discourse and Respectful Engagement23:46 The Role of Joe Rogan in Public Discourse29:52 Concluding Thoughts on Current Events40:19 Debate Dynamics and Media Representation47:00 Expertise and Public Discourse53:59 Misinformation and Institutional Accountability01:04:14 The Role of Experience in Argumentation01:12:48 Debating Evidence and Claims01:18:32 Critique of Argumentation Tactics01:26:36 The Complexity of Truth and Responsibility01:35:13 Navigating Sensitive Topics in Debate01:48:47 Assertions vs. Arguments: The Debate Dynamics01:54:47 Understanding Radical Islam: A Complex Landscape02:00:08 The Impact of Foreign Policy on Terrorism02:06:39 The Nuances of Terrorism: A Comparative Analysis02:19:29 Charity in Discourse: The Challenge of Misinformation02:26:04 Strawman Arguments in Foreign Policy02:32:30 Historical Context of Military Interventions02:37:51 Negotiation Strategies in Conflict Resolution02:44:29 Alternatives to Military Action02:49:50 The Complexity of Asymmetrical Warfare02:55:28 The Right to Self-DeterminationSupport The Illusion of Consensus! The Illusion of Consensus is a fully reader-supported publication. Douglas Murray on conspiracy America, lawfare & the new age of suspicionDonald Trump promised to release the Epstein files – so why hasn't he? Spectator columnist Douglas Murray joins Kate Andrews to discuss the scandal that won't go away, what it says about trust in institutions, and why even Trump's most loyal supporters are starting to turn on him.

The soul suckers of private equity, Douglas Murray on Epstein and MAGA & are literary sequels ‘lazy'?First up: how private equity is ruining BritainGus Carter writes in the magazine this week about how foreign private equity (PE) is hollowing out Britain – PE now owns everything from a Pret a Manger to a Dorset village, and even the number of children's homes owned by PE has doubled in the last five years. This ‘gives capitalism a bad name', he writes. Perhaps the most symbolic example is in the water industry, with water firms now squeezed for money and saddled with debt. British water firms now have a debt-to-equity ratio of 70%, compared to just 4% in 1991. Britain's desperation for foreign money has, quite literally, left Britain ‘in the shit'. Gus joined the podcast to discuss further, alongside the journalist Megan Greenwell, author of Bad Company: Private Equity and the Death of the American Dream. (00:46)Next: why is MAGA so incensed over Jeffrey Epstein?Six years after he died, the Jeffrey Epstein scandal is still haunting Donald Trump. Trump had vowed to release all files on various cases that attract conspiracy theorists – from JFK to Martin Luther King Jr. What makes the Epstein case different, as Douglas Murray writes in the magazine this week, is that the case was so recent and Epstein's ties with the elites, many of whom are still in power. Trump appeared to backtrack on releasing files relating to Epstein, prompting ire from the MAGA world, and there is now mounting cross-party pressure to uncover who knew what. Mike Johnson, the House speaker, sent representatives home early for summer, and there is even talk of Ghislaine Maxwell testifying. Why is the Epstein scandal such a lightning rod for MAGA rage? Douglas Murray joined the Spectator to discuss. The full interview can be found on Spectator TV. (15:49)And finally: are literary sequels ‘lazy'?It's ‘sod's law', says the Spectator's literary editor Sam Leith, that when a friend's book is due to be reviewed in the pages of the books section that you edit, the review will be bad. Mike Cormack reviews Men In Love by Irvine Welsh this week, calling the decision by Welsh to pen another sequel to Trainspotting ‘lazy'. At the Spectator this made us ponder whether this is true of all literary sequels, and what motivates authors to stick with characters and stories that they know.Sam joined us to discuss further alongside Lucy Thynne, the Telegraph's deputy literary editor. (33:59)Hosted by William Moore and Lara Prendergast.Produced by Patrick Gibbons and Megan McElroy.

The Israel-Hamas ceasefire remains in limbo, raising urgent questions: What does each side truly want from a ceasefire — and who gets to define its success? As families continue to plead for the return of all hostages, both living and deceased, international pressure mounts while domestic divisions intensify. We hear from Shosh Bedrosian of Israel TV (ILTV) and Eric Mandel of the Middle East Political Information Network to unpack the emotional, political and strategic stakes on the ground. Meanwhile, in New York, the mayoral race takes an unexpected turn as Eric Adams and Andrew Cuomo launch independent campaigns, threatening to split Democrats' vote. At the same time, Zohran Mamdani, an anti-Israel candidate, is buoyed by growing support. What does this reveal about the direction — and divisions — of New York's Democratic base? Douglas Murray, Senior Fellow at the Manhattan Institute, provides insights on the candidates and the future of New York's Democratic Party.

Send us a textAnti-Semitism is reaching frightening new heights worldwide. From the shocking "Kill the IDF" chants at Glastonbury Music Festival to growing hostility toward Israel, we're witnessing prophecy unfold before our eyes. What's particularly disturbing is how quickly the original context—Hamas' October 7th attack that killed 1,200 Israelis—is forgotten in these displays of animosity. This episode dives deeply into the spiritual battle underlying current events. The well-off young people enjoying freedom at music festivals while calling for Israel's destruction represent a profound irony—they reject the very Judeo-Christian values that created the free, prosperous societies they enjoy. Douglas Murray, who witnessed the October 7th aftermath firsthand, highlights this moral failure and identifies a pattern: today's anti-Israel sentiment will eventually target Christians too when belief systems clash.Drawing from personal experience and Scripture, we explore how believers must develop spiritual discernment to hear God's voice amid competing messages. Just as sheep respond only to their shepherd's voice—illustrated through a powerful story from Norway—Christians must recognize divine truth amid chaos. We examine two critical prophetic markers: Israel's miraculous 1948 restoration (fulfilling Isaiah 66 and Jeremiah 16) and Jesus' warnings in Matthew 24 about persecution, apostasy, and false teaching preceding His return. The coming years will likely see dramatic shifts in how the church operates, with authentic ministry happening in homes and small gatherings rather than megachurches. Stay in the Word, keep praying, and remain watchful—the King is coming!Support the show

Israel has always operated a powerful and effective propaganda system - they even have a name for it, “Hasbara.” But in the age of social media the Jewish state finds itself falling behind in the propaganda battle as the ongoing genocide in Gaza and general treatment of Palestinians becomes too horrific for the rest of the world to ignore or Israel to paper over. Jimmy speaks with formerly Gaza-based Palestinian-Egyptian journalist Youmna El Sayed about her reporting and why the tide has turned against Israel in the information war. Plus segments on the bloodthirsty commentators populating Israeli television, House Speaker Mike Johnson's disingenuous response to Elon Musk's criticism of the budget bill and Barstool Sports' Dave Portnoy's unhinged reaction to antisemitic jokes. Also featuring Kurt Metzger, Mike MacRae and Aaron Maté. And a phone call from Douglas Murray!

Among the topics covered: Why Douglas Murray's challenge to Joe Rogan's platforming of non-experts is only partly right; The proper role of expertise; How to properly think about expert consensus as a non-expert; How Murray is unclear about the standards we need for assessing expertise; Why philosophical expertise, not simply on-the-ground experience, is crucial in evaluating the ethics of an ongoing war; Why many people distrust experts. On Friday's Mark Levin Show, the core difference between conservatives and the modern left lies in their view of the Declaration of Independence, which is a unique, revolutionary document grounded in eternal truths and God-given unalienable rights. The concept of power, as outlined in the Declaration of Independence, is central to the founding of the United States, uniquely vesting sovereignty in the people rather than the government. This power establishes individuals and society—"we the people"—as the ultimate sovereign authority. The nation's structure requires the consent of the governed while protecting individual rights. The left fundamentally rejects the foundational principles of the United States, particularly those rooted in Judeo-Christian values and the Declaration of Independence. Woodrow Wilson was a key figure who dismissed the Declaration's emphasis on unalienable rights, natural law, and divine sovereignty, viewing them as outdated and mystical. This rejection contrasts sharply with the founders' vision of individual and collective sovereignty, which Democrats oppose in favor of a more progressive, secular framework. Later, Douglas Murray calls in to explain that the recent killing of two Israeli Embassy staffers in Washington, D.C., reflects how anti-Israel propaganda, fueled by groups like Qatar and the Iranian Revolutionary Government, is inciting Americans to commit antisemitic violence. This incident is part of a broader wave of antisemitism driven by false narratives about Israel's actions in Gaza, leading to increased violence against Jews. Also, why are federal judges are involved in decisions regarding federal funding for colleges and universities, national security, and immigration policies, which should be handled by the president and the administration. Judges should dismiss such cases, explaining that they lack jurisdiction. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

Conservative commentator Candace Owens has publicly criticized Donald Trump for abandoning his “American first” pledge in favor of Israel and against free speech. In a recent episode of her podcast, “Candace,” she voiced concerns over the administration's actions against universities, particularly regarding free speech issues. Owens stated, “I never thought that I would see a day where I would be rooting for a university above Donald J. Trump and his administration. But I don't recognize this administration right now.” She highlighted the administration's actions against Harvard University, which is facing threats of federal funding cuts for not complying with certain demands. Jimmy and Americans' Comedian Kurt Metzger discuss how Trump has betrayed virtually every fundamental pledge he made to his MAGA base. Plus segments on actor Russell Brand's recent arrest on decades-old sexual assault charges and Health & Human Services director Robert F. Kennedy Jr.'s announcement that all new vaccines will only be approved after more rigorous studies involving placebos. Also featuring Stef Zamorano and Mike MacRae. President Donald Trump has been in office for 100 days. Israel has been at war with Hamas in Gaza for 570, and Russia and Ukraine have been at war for over 1,000. Douglas Murray has had a front-row seat to all three of these unfolding stories, bringing us reportage and analysis that have illuminated the most urgent issues of our time. His reporting and willingness to call out bad actors across the world and the political spectrum has earned him his fair share of adversaries. Earlier this month, Douglas went on The Joe Rogan Experience—the most popular podcast in America—to debate both Rogan and comedian-turned-pundit Dave Smith. They sparred for some three hours, with the debate earning millions of views and becoming its own viral news story. The interview became popular in large part because Douglas refused to pull a punch. In this case that meant fighting back against antisemitism—the people that spew it and the people who fail to confront it. In this case, the kind of antisemitism rising on the online right. George Orwell famously wrote that “to see what's in front of one's nose needs a constant struggle.” Nobody knows that better than Douglas who, unlike many of his contemporaries, never gets lost in excuse-making and needless ideological abstraction. He sees the world clearly and reports it back to us, which is a big reason why he's such a unique and valuable voice in our era of dishonesty. That gift is on full display in his new and best-selling book, On Democracies and Death Cults, where he writes: “The story of the suffering and the heroism of October 7 and its aftermath is one that spells not just the divide between good and evil, peace and war, but between democracies and death cults.” We get into all that and much on this episode of Honestly, which was originally filmed live for our subscribers.
