GUEST OVERVIEW: Major Fred Galvin served for over 26 years as a enlisted and Marine Corps officer including assignments in the infantry, reconnaissance, force reconnaissance and Marine Special Operations Command (MARSOC/Marine Raiders). He led hundreds of combat missions including raids, deep reconnaissance, ship seizures, and ambush operations in Iraq, Afghanistan and in the Arabian Gulf, Gulf of Oman and Gulf of Aden. The Marine Corps selected Galvin to command the first Marine Special Operations Task Force to deploy to combat. While conducting a combat mission in Afghanistan, Galvin and six other Marines were falsely accused of war crimes which led to the longest trial in Marine Corps history that led an acquittal. He is the author of A Few Bad Men: The True Story of U.S. Marines Ambushed in Afghanistan and Betrayed in America. GUEST OVERVIEW: Graham Pinn is a doctor like half the world's businessmen and politicians seem to be now a days, but he is a proper doctor-a medical one having stamped out disease in 10 different countries. Now in retirement, he has too much time on his hands, and writes about matters he considers of importance for The Spectator Australia. Regarding their importance his wife differs.
GUEST 1 OVERVIEW: It's 1944 and two-year-old Suzi Smeed is being smuggled out of a Hungarian ghetto into hiding. In three days, her grandparents will be on a cattle train to Auschwitz—a place they will never leave. Separated from her parents, the orphanage that was her temporary refuge is destroyed by bombing. Suzi was hidden by good people trying to keep her alive. Her desperately searching mother did find her—surviving, just, in a barn. Her beautiful red hair had fallen out and she was covered in sores. The clothes she wore, when taken away, more recognisable than her physical features. This is Suzi Smeed's harrowing start to life, revealed in her book The Courage to Care. Her memoir details her survival of the Hungarian holocaust and fleeing to Australia as a refugee with her mum and her then successful life in Australia. Now in her 80s, Suzi visits schools to educate children about the dangers of prejudice, racism and discrimination. GUEST 2 OVERVIEW: Dr Bella d'Abrera is the Director, Foundations of Western Civilisation Program at the Institute of Public Affairs. She has BA in History and Spanish from Monash University, an MA in Spanish from the University of St Andrews and a PhD in History from the University of Cambridge. She has written and illustrated a children's book, is the author of The Tribunal of Zaragoza and Crypto-Judaism 1484-1515 and a trilogy on the English Reformation. She is currently on the Advisory Committee for the National Archives and is also member of ‘History Reclaimed' a counter-offensive against “fake history” comprising a group of more than 40 senior UK and Anglosphere academics. Bella is a regular contributor to The Spectator Australia and other media.
When it comes to conflict in the Middle East, there's the war, and then there's the war about the war. Of course, this isn't new. Caesar was penning war reports in Gaul and sending them back to Rome to win hearts and minds over 2000 years ago. But, back then Caesar could control the narrative. Today that is almost impossible. Social media, an activist mainstream media, and more sophisticated disinformation techniques have combined with millennia-old prejudices, and made it exceedingly difficult for Israel to communicate why they are fighting, how they are doing, and what still needs to be done. Eylon Levy has been on the frontline of the war about the war. Eylon is a former Israeli government spokesperson, and International Media Advisor to the President of Israel. He is now co-founder of the Israeli Citizen Spokespersons' Office and host of the State of a Nation podcast. The American experiment is failing. Division, mistrust and misinformation are now the country's defining characteristics. The storming of the Capitol, the prosecution of Donald Trump and battles over gun rights and abortion raise the spectre of further political violence. We often hear that these events are unprecedented. On the contrary, author and journalist Nick Bryant suggests that the hate, divisiveness and paranoia we see today are in fact a core part of America's story. His remarkable new book is titled 'The Forever War: America's Unending Conflict with Itself'.Follow Will Kingston and Fire at Will on social media here.Subscribe to The Spectator Australia here.
Sir Niall Ferguson is arguably the world's greatest living historian. He first pointed out that we're in Cold War II back in 2018. In articles for The New York Times and National Review, Sir Niall tried to show how China now occupies the space vacated by the Soviet Union when it collapsed in 1991.This view is less controversial now than it was then. China is clearly not only an ideological rival; it's also a technological competitor, a geopolitical rival, and a military rival.Sir Niall has recently amended his thesis to something altogether more disturbing. What if, in this new Cold War, the US — and not the Chinese - might be the Soviets? Follow Will Kingston and Fire at Will on social media here.Subscribe to The Spectator Australia here.
Education was once the search for truth. Sadly, this is no longer the case in many universities across the Western world. Instead of promoting debate, disagreement, and viewpoint diversity, too many institutions peddle a series of ideological narratives that seek to engrain a black armband view of history, an assertion of the importance of identity over merit, and a subjective definition of truth. That's why there is no more urgent priority in the world today for sensible conservatives than to fight back against the radical left's colonisation of education. Wilfred Reilly has accepted the challenge. Wilfred is a political science professor at Kentucky State University, and the author of the wonderful new book, “Lies My Liberal Teacher Told Me: Debunking the False Narratives Defining America's School Curricula”.NOTE: We had some very minor issues with Will's sound. It wasn't so long ago that one phrase sat above any other in the hierarchy of endorsements for a British or Australian male: “He's a good bloke.” You don't hear it as much in 2024 because blokehood is under attack across the Western world. Historically positive masculine virtues are now shamed as toxically masculine. At a minimum, blokeishness is derided as boorishness by our social betters in the media, politics, business, and culture. The first step to reclaiming blokehood is understanding it, which is what Geoff Norcott has done. As a rare right-winger, Geoff is a unique voice in British comedy, and has been hugely successful on the stand up circuit, with his podcast, and on TV. His latest book has made him the official expert on British blokes. There has long been a curious sub-genre in liberal journalism. It can best be described as “examining working class Americans in their natural habitat.” It goes something like this. Journalists from New York or California will bravely venture into a red state, observe the local inhabitants from afar, and come back with a series of superficial insights that reinforce the existing prejudices of coastal elites. Partly as a result of this lack of journalistic curiosity, liberal America is no closer to truly understanding the underlying forces that swept Donald Trump into the White House, and may yet do so again.Batya Ungar-Sargon did something novel. She wanted to understand the American working class, so she actually spoke to them, all over the country, for over a year. Lessons learnt were captured in ‘Second Class: How the Elites Betrayed America's Working Men and Women.' It is the best book to read if you want to understand the political and cultural forces at play in America in 2024.Follow Will Kingston and Fire at Will on social media here.Subscribe to The Spectator Australia here.
The most peculiar aspect of 'Pride' is how it has lumped together the gay population, with the most extreme proponents of gender ideology, when the latter have arguably done more than any other group to harm the former. Gareth Roberts has witnessed this firsthand. Gareth has fallen into commentary on gender ideology, but like previous guests of the show such as Graham Linehan and Helen Joyce, he was marvellously successful before wading into such treacherous waters. Gareth is a screenwriter and novelist, best known for his work on the iconic British series Doctor Who. His latest book is titled 'Gay Shame: The Rise of Gender Ideology and the New Homophobia.'Follow Will Kingston and Fire at Will on social media here.Subscribe to The Spectator Australia here.
The world could end before you finish listening to this podcast. That's the reality of a nuclear-armed world. If a sense of complacency had crept in about the threat of nuclear weapons, Annie Jacobsen's stunning new book is a wake up call. 'Nuclear War: A Scenario' imagines the 72 minutes after the 'button is pushed', and it doesn't end well. It's shockingly realistic, due to Annie's meticulous research, which reflects her status as a Pulitzer Prize finalist and New York Times bestselling author.Follow Will Kingston and Fire at Will on social media here.Subscribe to The Spectator Australia here.

There's a common refrain when it comes to housing in Australia today: ‘it's never been harder to enter the housing market'. Housing affordability has been labelled by politicians, the media, and aspiring homeowners as a historic crisis. What if that's just not the case? What if we've seen the same story countless times before? What the markets are doing what they have always done, and what they should be doing? It's easy to forget that journalists were once invested with immense trust by citizens. This is no longer the case. Journalists are amongst the least trusted members of society, and it has been largely self-inflicted. The rise of activist journalism over objective journalism, the rush for online clicks, and the narcissistic desire of too many to transition from being journalists to media personalities has blighted the profession. The question is, is journalism beyond saving? Anthony De Ceglie is well placed to answer the question. Sometimes it feels like the tidal wave of ‘wokeness' (or identity politics) washed over the western world almost overnight. It has captured more or less every societal institution in a remarkably short period of time. However, the intellectual roots of the movement can be traced back over fifty years. Politics is downstream from culture. To change politics, one must first change culture. The left intrinsically understands this in a way that the right simply does not. There are two ways to look at American politics in 2024. There's the prevailing pessimistic view. Many people think democracy is under threat, the economy is structurally vulnerable, the military is stretched, and for many, the looming election represents a choice between two geriatric evils. There is another perspective. What incredible fun! American politics has never been so entertaining. And as we look forward to the election, no one knows what will happen. If anyone can make sense of it all, it's Charles C.W. We as a society are self-censoring at record rates. Say the wrong thing at the wrong moment to the wrong person and the consequences can be dire. When the truth is no defense and nuance is seen as an attack, self-censorship is a rational choice. Yet, our silence comes with a price. When we are too fearful to speak openly and honestly, we deprive ourselves of the ability to build genuine relationships, we yield all cultural and political power to those with opposing views, and we lose our ability to challenge ideas or change minds, even our own. Katherine Brodsky thinks it's time for principled individuals to hit the unmute button and resist the authoritarians among us who name, shame, and punish. Australia is facing serious domestic and international challenges, all at a time when the political class has arguably never been so ill-equipped to address them. In fact, perhaps the only thing that nearly all Australians can agree on is that our leaders are not a patch on what they were in times gone by. THE THESIS: They have lived so long in the lie, they now feel it is their only refuge. It is certainly their native tongue. THE SCRIPTURE & SCRIPTURAL RESOURCES: The Old Testament reminds us what happens to people who live in the lie.Psalm 1: 1-61 Blessed is the onewho does not walk in step with the wickedor stand in the way that sinners takeor sit in the company of mockers,2 but whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on his law day and night.3 That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in seasonand whose leaf does not wither—whatever they do prospers.4 Not so the wicked! They are like chaffthat the wind blows away.5 Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous.6 For the Lord watches over the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked leads to destruction. The Pharisees had become the religious bureaucrats of their day and, though the Son of God stood directly before them, they could not see . . .John 9Jesus Heals a Man Born Blind9 As he went along, he saw a man blind from birth. 2 His disciples asked him, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?”3 “Neither this man nor his parents sinned,” said Jesus, “but this happened so that the works of God might be displayed in him. 4 As long as it is day, we must do the works of him who sent me. Night is coming, when no one can work. 5 While I am in the world, I am the light of the world.”6 After saying this, he spit on the ground, made some mud with the saliva, and put it on the man's eyes. 7 “Go,” he told him, “wash in the Pool of Siloam” (this word means “Sent”). So the man went and washed, and came home seeing.8 His neighbors and those who had formerly seen him begging asked, “Isn't this the same man who used to sit and beg?” 9 Some claimed that he was.Others said, “No, he only looks like him.”But he himself insisted, “I am the man.”10 “How then were your eyes opened?” they asked.11 He replied, “The man they call Jesus made some mud and put it on my eyes. He told me to go to Siloam and wash. So I went and washed, and then I could see.”12 “Where is this man?” they asked him.“I don't know,” he said. The Pharisees Investigate the Healing13 They brought to the Pharisees the man who had been blind. 14 Now the day on which Jesus had made the mud and opened the man's eyes was a Sabbath. 15 Therefore the Pharisees also asked him how he had received his sight. “He put mud on my eyes,” the man replied, “and I washed, and now I see.”16 Some of the Pharisees said, “This man is not from God, for he does not keep the Sabbath.”But others asked, “How can a sinner perform such signs?” So they were divided.17 Then they turned again to the blind man, “What have you to say about him? It was your eyes he opened.”The man replied, “He is a prophet.”18 They still did not believe that he had been blind and had received his sight until they sent for the man's parents. 19 “Is this your son?” they asked. “Is this the one you say was born blind? How is it that now he can see?”20 “We know he is our son,” the parents answered, “and we know he was born blind. 21 But how he can see now, or who opened his eyes, we don't know. Ask him. He is of age; he will speak for himself.” 22 His parents said this because they were afraid of the Jewish leaders, who already had decided that anyone who acknowledged that Jesus was the Messiah would be put out of the synagogue. 23 That was why his parents said, “He is of age; ask him.”24 A second time they summoned the man who had been blind. “Give glory to God by telling the truth,” they said. “We know this man is a sinner.”25 He replied, “Whether he is a sinner or not, I don't know. One thing I do know. I was blind but now I see!”26 Then they asked him, “What did he do to you? How did he open your eyes?”27 He answered, “I have told you already and you did not listen. Why do you want to hear it again? Do you want to become his disciples too?”28 Then they hurled insults at him and said, “You are this fellow's disciple! We are disciples of Moses! 29 We know that God spoke to Moses, but as for this fellow, we don't even know where he comes from.”30 The man answered, “Now that is remarkable! You don't know where he comes from, yet he opened my eyes. 31 We know that God does not listen to sinners. He listens to the godly person who does his will. 32 Nobody has ever heard of opening the eyes of a man born blind. 33 If this man were not from God, he could do nothing.”34 To this they replied, “You were steeped in sin at birth; how dare you lecture us!” And they threw him out.Spiritual Blindness35 Jesus heard that they had thrown him out, and when he found him, he said, “Do you believe in the Son of Man?”36 “Who is he, sir?” the man asked. “Tell me so that I may believe in him.”37 Jesus said, “You have now seen him; in fact, he is the one speaking with you.”38 Then the man said, “Lord, I believe,” and he worshiped him.39 Jesus said,[a] “For judgment I have come into this world, so that the blind will see and those who see will become blind.”40 Some Pharisees who were with him heard him say this and asked, “What? Are we blind too?”41 Jesus said, “If you were blind, you would not be guilty of sin; but now that you claim you can see, your guilt remains.THE NEWS & COMMENT:The Dictator of California has lived in the lie for so long, who can tell is he actually believes himself? What the Republicans voted against was keeping the door open for the IRS or any other agent of the State to force churches, religious hospitals and schools or any other group to violate the practice of their religious faith. Can Gavin even see truth anymore? His own Country of California has cities enshrining racism and special treatment of gender defiant people in their laws with “BIPOC” only meetings and schools and guaranteed income for men who think they are women.‘Election denier” Jamie Raskin has become The Lie, does he know that? One cannot uphold the Constitution by giving the State an open door to attack religious liberties. [AUDIO] - Jamie Raskin: “As my GOP colleagues try to block the Respect for Marriage Act, I remind them what we taught anti-gay politicians a decade ago: you placed your hand on the Bible and swore to uphold the Constitution. You didn't place your hand on the Constitution and swear to uphold the Bible.”Long ago, the ADL gave into lying and are now busily becoming The Lie. President Trump was the most pro-Israel President in history, Tucker Carlson is not gong to be President and being a Globalist is an ideology, not a religion or race. [AUDIO] - The head of the ADL said today that “it shouldn't sound so crazy” to think synagogues and Jewish day schools could be shut down by a Republican administration with Tucker Carlson as president because he would say he wants globalists out of the government. Is there a better example of how living in lies can turn you into The Lie than Jane Fonda? Here, Jane says, without racism there would be no “climate change” . . .”[AUDIO] - ‘This is actually coming out of the United Nations and a lot of so called reports on the issue.' Editor of the Spectator Australia, Alex Marshall reacts to American actress Jane Fonda saying ‘If there was no racism, there would be no climate crisis.'Michael Knowles very calmly allows a woman of The Lie to reveal the fact that she cannot see truth, let alone speak it[AUDIO] - “I identify as being correct, and more correct than you on this issue, and I would just ask that you accept and affirm my identity. Do you?”Zach Abraham's least favorite TV stock guy, Jim Cramer says he hates that people insist we are headed for a recession . . . Jim, we have been in a recession for months. That is not “just [my] opinion”, it is mathematically factual. When was the last time Cramer spoke truth? [AUDIO] - "Everyone's decided there's going to be a recession. I don't see the recession coming," Jim Cramer has said. The same White House who turned the backs on Marines and get them killed and decided to leave hundreds of millions of dollars in war fighting equipment to the Taliban says they will show how much they care about the troops by continuing to insist they get injected with useless, harmful, too often deadly mRNA. [AUDIO] - Jean-Pierre: "Republicans have decided they'd rather fight against the well-being of our troops and we believe it is a mistake. Making sure our troops are prepared and ready for service is a priority for President Biden and the vaccination requirement does just that."THE LISTENERS:Susan KDear Brother Todd, I listened to the podcast with Stacy Ograyenseks and my heart went out to her. I prayed for her, with you, that day.Because I am not in the medical field, I asked a good ‘sister in the Lord' who is a nurse to listen to that podcast.I thought it unusual for you not to have a trusted medical person in that podcast to discern what should have been done with Stacy's husband, other factors to consider, etc.My medical friend read the intro to the podcast and refused to listen/read further, due to your opining of ‘murder' and said that there is so much mis-information and outright lies (on both sides) on this issue, reminded me that Satan is the ‘Father of lies' and she considers it slander of the dedicated medical staff (some who are fellow-Christians) who have tirelessly and heroically try to help patients during Covid (she has been through a lot as a nurse, during Covid too) and that we should only be filling our heads with God's truth and not this (political) stuff because it could cause disunity in the Body of Christ and that only God knows the truth.
