Two buddies with the occasional guest will discuss a horror movie they watched over some drinks
G and John have a fun chat about one of King's very few forays into the fantasy genre. The two are very happy to see an old friend return; the magician with the smile of a dead man, the man with many monikers that loves to bring chaos in his wake, whether it's in mid-world, a plagued alternate version of America, or in this case an ancient kingdom called Delain. Yes, that's right Randall Flagg is back in one of King's underrated tales. Sit back, grab a flagon of ale, and enjoy this chat.
What's this, The Cold Ones gang repeating themselves? Not quite, guys. While we covered Edgar Wright's classic zombie movie a few years ago, Jim and John are tackling the flick in a different way today: Could we survive the movie? To spoil stuff, na, we wouldn't make it - but you should still tune in to see how we think we'd die! Mixed in are some musings on burgers and bitching about Max rebranding for their third time in like 5 years. Sit back, crack a cold one and enjoy
G and John are back with the Stephen King discussions! In this episode we take a deep dive into one of King's earliest entries into the fantasy genre. Please join us, right here and now as we run with the moon and journey with Jack Sawyer on his quest to save his mother with a magical Talisman which doesn't just impact one world, but all worlds.
John and Rich finish up their marathon discussion!
That's right, true believers, it's the triumphant return of Capes and Cold Ones! Join Rich and John as they dissect what many consider to be the gold standard of comic book movies - Spider-Man 2 directed by Sam Rami. John gives a brief run down on the hurried pre-production that somehow still allowed arguably the best movie to ever feature your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man. The two also do not forget to praise one of the best villains turns as well with Alfred Molina donning the extra four mechanic arms as Doc Ock. This is going to be a marathon discussion, so get comfy, crack a cold one and enjoy this chat.
Join John and Kristina as they take a deep dive into Robert Egger's masterful retelling of the Dracula myth. The two gush over the visual language of the flick, the costumes as well as the makeup. The two also crown Bill Skarsgard as one of the kings of horror now that he has Pennywise and Count Orlock under his belt. Sit back, crack a cold one and enjoy.
John and G discuss the underrated story of a werewolf haunting a small New England town. John may be a bit loopy, and we may have missed the spookiest month of the year by not posting a pod, but we're back now and that's all that matters! Sit back, crack a cold one and enjoy.
Kristina, John and Jenn with two n's sit down to chat about Richard Donner's The Omen. The trio dig the old timey score, '70's aesthetic and the fact that the doctor from The Secret of the Ooze plays a major part in this flick. Sit back, crack a cold one and enjoy.
G and John chat about one King's greatest, but also darkest works. The two chronicle the doomed lives of the Creed family that just wanted a nice little life in a sleepy Maine town, but were doomed by a busy road and a cursed burial ground a few miles away. The two dig into the tough to handle but true lesson that King imparts to his readers; Sometimes Dead is Better. This book certainly isn't for the faint of heart, but The King and Cold Ones Crew agree, it's one of the writer's finest and most haunting works to date. So if you're interested, pull up a chair, grab a cold one from Jud's ice bucket and enjoy this chat on King's classic novel.
Join Jim and John for a an adventure that spans hundreds of years as they recap the masterpiece that is Terry Gilliam's Time Bandits. What, not a horror movie you say? To that I will point to the horror of being threatened by a band of thieves the appear out of your bedroom wardrobe and then being chased by the disembodied head of The Supreme Being and then having misadventures in time and space while the personification of Evil plots your demise! John and Jim discuss the differences between American and British humor. The stacked cast of this flick is admired as well as the pure brilliant imagination of Terry Gilliam. Ok, sure it doesn't fit the regular definition of a horror movie, but c'mon, Time Bandits rules! Gather up with some cold ones and get ready for an adventure through time.
Gina and John sit down to talk about a teen and his haunted car in the 80's classic King tale. The two dive into this surprisingly deep horror novel that has something to say about growing up and growing apart from childhood friends. The two try to decipher the world that has moved on, and the broken gunslinger that it left behind. So, crack a cold one and enjoy this palaver.
Kristina and John cover the brilliant 70's set found footage flick written and directed by Colin and Cameron Cairnes. The two praise the storytelling, the clever take on the previously well worn horror found footage technique, as well as the nostalgic art direction. The two think that this David Dastmalchian led flick will become required viewing for many Halloweens to come. So gather up Night Owls, crack a cold one and enjoy.
John and Jim chat about John Carpenter's masterpiece The Thing, a tale about a shapeshifting alien lifeform that causes panic and paranoia amongst a team of Americans at a research station. The two discuss how criminally underrated the film was when it first debuted in 1982. They also get into the gory details of Rob Bottin's genius special effects makeup work on the film. The two discuss how often remakes can be disappointing but agree, Carpenter's retelling has to stand as one of the all time great remade flicks. So, bundle up as you join us in the Antarctic, crack a cold one and enjoy.
G and John take a deep dive into Richard Bachman's (cough cough, Stephen King's) dystopian novel. The two agree that King accurately predicted the rise of reality t.v, but also acknowledge that the writer falls short on executing his vision; a brilliant premise does not automatically equal a brilliant book. While this book fell short of expectations, the two look upon King's '80's bibliography with much anticipation, and the next stop is The Gunslinger. We are now are officially on the path of the beam. Sit back, crack a cold one and enjoy.
We made to 100, people! Instead of looking at any one specific movie, John and Jim rip off an old bit for sports radio; Mount Rushmore. The two list some of their favorite horror flicks and touch on early memories of watching them. They occasionally go off on tangents about comic book flicks as well as the state of the movie industry that we're witnessing right now. The duo discuss their upcoming plans for the pod going forward. Sit back, crack a cold one and enjoy.
Welcome back to King's haunted town of Castle Rock. Gina and John take a big ol' bite out of King's seminal book about a good dog turned rabid. The duo dig into the nitty gritty of the novel with maybe one or two too many sub-plots. John has some issues with the cereal advertising subplot in particular. The two recall an early episode of their lives when they had to walk home from a gas station in the summer of '93. Sit back, grab a cold one and enjoy.
Kristina and John take a deep dive into a Christmas movie tradition in the making: Violent Night, staring Stranger Things' David Harbour. The two reminisce about Christmas past. The inevitable comparison between Die Hard is made. John Leguizamo's evil Mr. Scrooge is admired. You better watch out, you better not cry, you better grab a cold one, I'm telling you why. Santa Claus is going to lay the hammer down.
G and John chat about another Richard Bachman/Stephen King story. The two navigate a tricky story that deals with mental health issues and loss. The duo wrestles with their disdain for the main character while still sympathizing with his dilemma. The two also discuss the nature of nostalgia. Sit back, crack a cold one and enjoy.
Jim and John sit down to talk about the fantastic Child's Play, directed by, directed by Tom Holland and written by Don Mancini as well as John Lafia. The duo reminisces about '80's toys. The practical effects are admired. John is way too interested in Chris Sarandon. Sit back, crack a cold one and enjoy.
John, Kristina and Jenn with two N's take a deep dive into the first Friday The 13th flick directed by Sean S. Cunningham. The trio reminisce about watching the series at a young age. The confusion about the ending is remarked upon. John can't stop talking about different kinds of pies. It's a bit of a loopy episode recorded right in the middle of Red October (Go Phils). Sit back, crack a cold one and enjoy.
Jim and John discuss Prometheus, Ridley Scott's return to sci-fi flicks. John struggles with coming up with the word casino. He also goes into great deatil about the creation of the movie. Sit back, crack a cold one and enjoy.

A certain Netflix series is discussed as having taken inspiration from King's book. The terror of a child with psychic abilities is pondered. Sit back, crack a cold one and enjoy.
Rich and John tackle the culmination of the MCU's Phase 1: The Avengers, written and directed by Joss Whedon. The two recap how Marvel Studios made one of the biggest gambles in Hollywood history and won. The two then pretty much praise the flick for what it is, one of the great super-hero blockbusters. Side notes: Rich has some interesting Spider-verse theories. John is still fascinated by those scented candles sold by Gweneth Paltrow (If you don't know what I'm talking about, Google it. It's pretty funny). Sit back, crack a cold one and ASSEMBLE!
Kristina and John chat about The Descent directed by Neil Marshall. The two share their misgivings about exploring caves. The unique, somehow plausible monsters of the movie are admired. Sit back, crack a cold one and enjoy.

The duo discuss what it would be like to have a power that would ostracize them from the rest of society. John struggles mightily with a Tiger analogy about halfway though the podcast. Sit back, crack a cold one and enjoy.

Sit back, crack a cold one and enjoy. *Apologies for the rough sound quality at the start of the episode. It gets much better 7-8 minutes in*

Join John and Jenn with two n's as they navigate their way through Friday the 13th Part 7: The New Blood. The two try to run through the plot but get distracted by silly things like the timeline of the Friday series, sweet haircuts, and the incredible Canadian Tuxedos. Kristina, John, Jenn with two n's and Dan sit down for a lively conversation about Scream 6 directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett. The gang discusses the absence of franchise star Neve Campbell and the effect it had on the movie. John has a pretty bad pitch for a Mare of Easttown and Scream crossover. Kristina tries to keep everyone on track as they talk in Batman voice for some reason. If you were looking for an intelligent take on the new slasher flick you may have come to the wrong place, but hey you may get a laugh or two at the nonsense. Sit back, crack a beer and join us.
Gina and John finish up their chat on The Stand.
Captain Trips have you down? Join John and Gina as they make their cross-country journey along with some of Stephen King's most memorable characters as they dig into The Stand. The two dissect just about every minute detail of King's answer to Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings. The two discuss some things that felt a little prophetic in this text originally published in 1978. So, it's come to this. John was unable to get anyone to hang out so he recorded a solo pod. Fittingly, this episode covers I am Legend directed by Francis Lawrence. John has some high praise for Philly's own, Will Smith, as well as the atmosphere of this pre-Walking Dead and The Last of Us movie. John does complain once, twice or perhaps a dozen times about the really bad CGI. If you are feeling a little loopy like John in insolation, crack a cold one and give this a listen.
Feeling down from the cold weather and the sun setting too early in these gloomy winder months? Join John, Rich and Sister G for a lengthy talk about a somewhat forgotten but good flick, 2007's 30 Days of Night, directed by David Slade. The three praise the perfect concept for a horror film; vampires descending upon a town during a month-long polar night. The gang also digs into the animalistic and terrifying depiction of vampires, which unfortunately was superseded by those vamps that sparkle in sunlight (oddly enough David Slade directed one of those movies, a crazy fact I did not know when recording!) Other takeaways, John and Rich may be a bit too obsessed with the performance of the great character actor Ben Foster, Josh Harnett is dreamy, and lastly tractors armed with chainsaw-like weapons rule. Lock your doors, board your windows and make sure you have a few cold ones for this fun chat.
The Delco lads finish up their discussion on one of the best movies ever made.
Rich, Torch and John fire up the Delorean and take trip down memory lane to discuss one of the best movies ever, Back to the Future. Is it a horror movie? Probably not but stay tuned for John's pretty bad justification for covering it as one. The trio have an admittedly rambling conversation on this classic from the '80s. Sit back, crack a Pepsi Free and enjoy.
Got the post-Christmas blues? Join Jim and John for a discussion of Scrooge, a classic adaptation of A Christmas Carol starring Alastair Sim. The two chat about how this particular adaptation of Dickens' immortal tale hits home. Plus, the two find time to complain about the cold weather that hit Delco over the Christmas holiday. Sit back, crack a cold one and know me better, man!

John, Jim and Kristina provide some final thoughts on Die Hard. Plus, the three dig into some of their favorite Christmas gifts they received as kids.
Is it cliché to cover Die Hard as a Christmas movie? Is it weird that a horror podcast is throwing in a Christmas mini-series? Yes, but it's Die Hard, so who cares? John and Jim break down the iconic action movie that spawned dozens of imitations, some good, many bad. The two get into why Bruce Willis was the best actor available for the job. Come join us at the Nakatomi Plaza, crack a cold one and enjoy.
Kristina and John sit down and chat about the John Hughes classic, Planes, Trains and Automobiles. While not a horror movie, most people all agree that traveling can be horrific. Sit back, crack a few cold ones and enjoy.
