By 2014, the band's sophomore release, Western Horror, leaned into a cinematic direction, immersing listeners into a wordless narrative that probably belongs best to a Tarantino film. The following release of 2016, TDIII - Tokes, Hatred & Caffeine, saw the group tightening its compositions, resulting in an album that featured a total of 12 tracks over the span of 40-minutes. Gone were the long, drawn-out build ups! Tumbleweed Dealer began to favor quickly undulating cascades of harmonies, all of which were played against a rhythm section that openly showcased a vast array of musical influences. While the band never actively toured, they played the occasional show. Scarce as they were, the band traveled as far as California to share their mastery of the loop station and to recreate their soundscapes in a live setting while commanding the stage with the authority of the seasoned extreme metal veterans that made up their ranks at the time.By the time composition started for an eventual fourth album, the group's live lineup had dissolved. What started as a simple decision to ward off the need to write music that can be recreated in front of a live audience quickly grew into what Sebastien coined a “bucket list album”, a shining new opportunity to indulge in every adventurous musical thought in a way that was free from any concern about the feasibility of its pieces. Pairing themselves with an unlikely drummer early in the creative process, Angelo Fata from local hardcore bands Jesus Horse and Hopeless Youth, group mainstays Painchaud and Joubaud went on to craft songs that merged oppositional forces of vintage sounds with modern ideas. Mellotrons, Hammonds, and Rhodes were added on top of jazzy, funky riffs that managed to maintain the group's melodic pallet in a way that pushed it further. If there was an elevator pitch to sum this new direction up, it might go something like this: “What if Toe and Camel got high together in a swamp?”More than 8 years in the making, Tumbleweed Dealer's main driving force, Seb Painchaud, not only thinks that this album reflects a life-spanning culmination of his experience as a musician and composer, but also of his life as an avid musical fan with an obsessive need to discover new artists, genres, and sounds. Though he has released records with various projects since his early twenties, Dark Green is the album he has been working on his whole life, whether he knew it or not.

When we discussed an Emmanuelle movie earlier this year, we had no idea there was another one coming. And this one with a top flight notch cast. We also discuss Inside Out 2 crossing the $1 billion dollar mark at the box office and what it says about how we look at flops today. Though it probably will not make as much money, we are still excited about the upcoming Beetlejuice Beetlejuice and its upcoming world premiere. We all already know the country has an awful choice to make. When your choice is senile old white man or crazy old man is their a point in even making one? The answer is yes. Re-Elected from 2020 is a horror movie that knows exactly what it is. A goofy, kind of dumb, but all around fun watch that is not supposed to be taken seriously. You would figure that a movie from this era involving dead presidents would have all sorts of social commentary. Re-Elected does not have one thing to say about what is going on in today's world and is better for it. For starters, this is not that type of movie. It's not that horror cannot say anything relevant; it has always been light years ahead of other genres when it comes to that. It is more about some films being all about just turning off your brain and enjoying what you see at the most visceral level.Cold Blows the Wind is an awesomely named indie horror movie that constantly punches above its weight. It is a microbudget affair that is so good that it allows anyone watching to focus on the plot and characters instead of the value of the production. Filled with great performances and writing, even some noticeable missteps do not take away from the enjoyment. We also talk about what is appropriate nudity. For years now, we have talked about how today's cinema seems to fear be sexy, erotic, or just plain naked. The rub is, when done right, nudity can add to a film, even when it an argument can be made that it was not completely necessary. But necessary and appropriate are two entirely different things. ☀️ John Carpenter's Vampires may be mostly forgotten today, but it was a big hit when it released back in 1998. In this episode we are revisiting the renowned director's mishmash of the horror and western genres, and once again asking the universal question of "How well does it still hold up?" We'll also nominate which characters we think were most deserving of death, so be sure to stick around til the end of the episode.● ● ●▶️ Watch the Video Podcast☑️ Vote in the Cherry Picker● ● ●

Dan and Scott make their way to the virtual Yeti Cave to talk about CANARY, a Comixology Original now published by Dark Horse Comics. The trade is out June 26th. This is a Western Horror story with elements of body horror and cosmic horror all brought to life by Dan's masterful artwork and haunting colors. Canary takes place in the past but feels relevant for today. Dan and Scott get into their creative partnership and share some of the highlights of making this comic. As a fan of both this was a true joy for me. I hope this isn't the last time these two gunslingers work together.  Play TTRPG games? Make sure to check out our partner Arkenforge. Howdy pardners and pardnettes, it's time to join the rodeo and review Bone Tomahawk. It's going to be a rootin tootin good time. https://youtu.be/VHDyu1o2nAg Artwork by Dustin Goebel. Follow @dgoebel00 on instagram. Synopsis In the sleepy old west town of Bright Hope, it is anything but, as the town doctor is kidnapped by a band of indigenous cave dwellers that even the (other?) Native Americans think are savages. Kurt Russel's Sherriff Hunt leads a band of men on a rescue mission made up of his elderly assistant deputy played by Richard Jenkins, the arrogant Gunslinger Brooder played by Mathew Fox, and The doctor's lame husband played by Patrick Wilson. Actually lame, his leg is broke. He's actually a pretty cool dude. They make their way through the frontier to find the territory of the Troglodytes, and find out that the stories of their savagery are if anything underselling it.  https://youtu.be/0ZbwtHi-KSE Review of Bone Tomahawk This film is one of a few in the genre of Western Horror, and few if any reach the quality of this film.  The film is effective in it's simplicity. It's a rescue mission ala The Searchers. You have the set of archetypal characters that are thrown together by situation and duty, and several dilemmas and power struggles along the journey to find the location of the savages. Bone Tomahawk Poster When they get to the Troglodyte Territory, the tone takes a sharp turn into straight up torture porn horror.  The mission goes from the guys in white hats will surely win, to oh no… oh nonono.  While the first half of the movie drags a little, I think it's necessary to set up the characters and give contrast to the horror at the end of the film. One scene in particular stands out so much that it's basically become a meme as “that scene” in Bone Tomahawk. For good reason. It will stick with you, and if you are a man, you will especially feels something. Score 8/10 Bone Tomahawk Add it to your collection or rent it now.Click here to buy

IT'S WRANGLERS VS. DINOSAURS, BUCKAROOS VS. WEREWOLVES, AND DISGRACED SOLDIERS VS. WESTWARD EXPANDING CANNIBALS!   Howdy, cowpoke, did you just hear a spooky coyote howl? Catch a glimpse of a ghostly cow, maybe? That's probably because Gabe and returning guest Luana Saitta are talking about westerns with a horror slant this month. Well, that was the idea, at least. We ended up covering classic dino “Weird Western,” The Valley of Gwangi (directed by Jim O'Connolly, 1969), an arty frontier bodice ripper with a werewolf twist in Martin Donovan's Mad at the Moon (1992), one gen-u-ine western horror classic – Antonia Bird's Ravenous (1999). Have you guys seen Ravenous? Because it's really good.   Note: I didn't notice that Luana's mic was a bit hot and that mine was echoing until I was in the process of editing. If you couldn’t guess from the title, that’s right, the main focus of this episode is western themed horror. Let me start off by saying that Michael J was very surprised that this is actually a subgenre, considering the only horror western he knows of is House II: The Second Story. Obviously, there are many more films discussed, that involve such sensitive material as “ghost rape” and more. Before all that, though, we get into a lot of different topics ranging from a drunken Donald Pleasence in Halloween to Pet Sematary. The Wind is a Western Horror movie that is a spiritual successor to The Witch. The harsh landscape and interpersonal paranoia are in the forefront of this tense thriller. We review the film and attempt to unravel the non-linear narrative to make sense of what actually happened to the four main characters. It is a Western Horror film that tells the story of two young families living on harsh untamed Western frontier of the US in the 1800’s. Caitlin Gerard plays Lizzy Macklin, who with her husband Isaac (Ashley Zukerman) own a homestead on the windy, dusty plains. They are soon joined by a newlywed couple, Emma and Gideon Harper played by Julia Goldani Telles and Dylan McTee. The Harpers are out of their depth trying to survive in the unforgiving environment. Emma soon starts to show cracks in her psyche, and is driven mad by the pressure. When Lizzy starts to also experience some of the visions and unexplained phenomena described by Emma, she starts to question whether she is also going mad, or is it an actual evil presence seeking to destroy them? https://youtu.be/WVZBNT0Ap-A The Wind - Official Trailer Review of The Wind Comparisons to the Witch are inevitable and apt with this movie. The harsh environment and the pressures of surviving off the land are basically a main character in both films. The trailer also makes comparisons to The Babadook. Being two of my favorite horror movies of the last decade, those comparisons made me set my expectations fairly high. The good news is that this film, for the most part, met my expectations. Want To Watch it Now?Click the button to watch The Wind on AmazonWatch The Wind It is a simple story injected with convincing human drama and told artfully through a non-linear narrative that keeps you engaged and on the edge. Coming from a first time feature film screenwriter and director, it’s actually really impressive how all the moving parts worked so well. You’re fed bits of information piece by piece, which lets you assemble the puzzle of the story’s timeline. Just enough information is withheld throughout to make you question whether the cause of all the trouble is simply paranoia and madness, or if it is an actual demon. The tone is set early with the first scene featuring a dead baby, and the menace is maintained throughout the whole movie. The score and sound design are excellent, and scared me as much as the visuals did. The film relies on inter-relationship drama, and psychological horror more than jump scares, but those are represented as well. It never quite reaches the greatness of The Witch, but the same thematic elements are represented very similarly here. Score for The Wind Movie Score 8/10 The Wind Horror Movie Spoilers Click to Expand for Spoilers Chronology of The Wind Unraveling the timeline of the film is one of the engaging aspects of the film. Below I have to the best of my abilities tried to lay out the chronology of events in The Wind. The first scene chronologically would actually be Lizzy being "haunted" alone in her own cabin. The wind knocks at door, blows out the candles, and generally terrifies Lizzy. All the while she is pregnant. Next, Lizzy is comforted by Isaac and she gives the creepy eye to the camera. Lizzy gives the creepy eye. Isaac sees that Lizzy has been reading the demons of the prairie book and burns it. Demons of the Prairie Pamphlet Isaac gives a shotgun to Lizzy to shoot demons Macklins lose baby Samuel and bury him with the Bible. The Harpers move in and the four of them all have dinn...

Westerns share a lot in common with horror. Both deal in black and white, good and evil, blood. There’s not a lot of true cross over. Sure, you’ve got some brilliant horror that pulls ideas from the Western: Sam Peckinpah’s Straw Dogs, Wes Craven’s The Hills Have Eyes. But that’s not what we’re looking for.
