In this year's GateSlashers podcast special, hosts Dan and Ethan sit down to talk about IT, the two-part film adaption of Stephen King's iconic horror novel. Released in 2017, IT Chapter One, directed by Andy Muschietti, adapted one half of King's novel, focusing on a group of teen outcasts known as the Loser's Club as they encounter a malevolent entity known as Pennywise the Dancing Clown in their hometown of Derry, Maine. IT Chapter Two, released in 2019, again directed by Muschietti, finds the Loser's Club reuniting 27 years later to once again face-off with a returned Pennywise. On the podcast, we discuss our love of these films, how they are a shining example of studio horror, and true fear brought on by Pennywise. We also dive into the perfect casting across the board, from the young Loser's Club to their adult counterparts, and the sublimely terrifying performance by Bill Skarsgård as the titular IT, Pennywise.

THANKS TO ANDREW FOR MAKING THE INTRO SONG. (soundcloud.com / andoryukesuta)@andoryukesuta In October 1988, twelve-year-old Bill Denbrough crafts a paper sailboat for Georgie, his six-year-old brother. Georgie sails the boat along the rainy streets of small town Derry, Maine, only to have it fall down a storm drain. As he attempts to retrieve it, Georgie sees a clown in the drain, who introduces himself as "Pennywise the Dancing Clown". Pennywise entices Georgie to come closer, then bites his arm off and drags him into the sewer. The following summer in June 1989, Bill and his friends Richie Tozier, Eddie Kaspbrak, and Stan Uris run afoul of older bullies Henry Bowers, Belch Huggins, Patrick Hockstetter, and Victor Criss. Bill, still haunted by Georgie's disappearance, calculates that his brother's body may have washed up in a marshy wasteland called the Barrens. He recruits his friends to investigate, believing Georgie may still be alive. Ben Hanscom, one of Bill's new classmates, learns that unexplained tragedies and child disappearances have plagued the town for centuries. Targeted by Bowers' gang, Ben flees into the Barrens and meets Bill's group. They find the sneaker of a missing girl named Betty Ripsom, while Patrick is killed by Pennywise while searching the sewers for Ben. Beverly Marsh, a girl bullied over her rumored promiscuity, also joins the group; both Bill and Ben develop feelings for her. Later, the group befriends orphan Mike Hanlon after rescuing him from Bowers. Each member of the group has encountered terrifying manifestations of the same menacing clown who attacked Georgie: a headless undead boy (Ben), a sink that spews blood only children can see (Beverly), a diseased and rotting leper (Eddie), a disturbing painting coming alive (Stan), Mike's parents burning alive (Mike), and a frightening phantom of Georgie (Bill). Now calling themselves "The Losers Club", they realize they are all being stalked by the same entity, which they refer to as "It". They determine that It appears as their individual worst fears, awakening every 27 years to feed on the children of Derry before resuming hibernation, and moves about by using the sewer lines, which all lead to an old stone well hidden under an abandoned house on Neibolt Street. After Pennywise attacks them, the group ventures to the house to confront It, only to be separated and terrorized. As Pennywise gloats to Bill about Georgie, the Losers regroup and Beverly impales Pennywise through the head, forcing the clown to retreat. The group flees the house and begins to splinter, with only Bill and Beverly resolute in fighting It.

She curates FINAL GIRL FASHION on Instagram, an account showcasing the killer outfits of women in horror. Emily also co-hosts the podcasts We Really Like Her! And What About Meryll? Together they cover the IT miniseries, both feature films and the classic Stephen King novel which started it all. Furthermore, they explore the nitty-gritty differences between the Andy Muschietti vision of Derry and how it compares to the Fukanga/Chase draft.Emily and Josh also speculate wildly about why Warner Brothers jumped ship after developing IT with Fukanga for nearly five years. If you are a fan of Stephen King's IT and Pennywise the Dancing Clown? If so, you won't want to miss this episode. Do you think the recent films did the book justice? Let us know on social media! *Trigger Warning: If you are creeped out by clowns, this might not be your episode.* Shake what Pennywise gave ya as Ghost and Pope delve into the pain of finally hitting the wall on R34 availability, go deep into FROMSoft's awesome game output, and in general talk about content that would make The Dancing Clown himself blush. Because, ya know. Clussy. ... That is a really funny word. Like, sometimes I have to wonder WTF is up with the internet. Y'all need Jesus, every one of you. Including me, but he never shows up to "Poker and Other Assorted and Unnamed Vices" night, so it's unlikely that we'll run into each other. I'm just waiting for the audio to upload and have nothing to do, and I'm ADD AF, so now I need something to occupy my attention. How'd y'all like the new Jurassic World? I thought it was pretty dope, to be honest, if you just forgive its flaws. You kinda have to do that with every movie, though. For example, Citizen Kane is a dope movie, if you forgive the flaw that it SUCKS. The only movie I can think of that I've ever seen that is without blame is probably Beavis and Butthead Do America. They set out to do something and did it well. We need Mike Judge to get out of animation and like directing the MCU movies or something. I can see it now, Iron Man calling Hulk a fartknocker. End Game was kinda a big deal, but I think this is the crossover we've been waiting for. Wait, when Thanos snapped, did it erase Beavis and Butthead? Or half of the TMNT? So many questions unanswered. You might be thinking "Pope, it's a movie, calm down". Well, I haven't seen that movie, so of course I have questions. Also Thanos looks like an abused ballsack. No hate on Josh Brolin, though, he's dope. Have you ever had friends hype about something and you just can't bring yourself to give a flying shit about it? That's me and Marvel movies. Formulaic, uninspired, and boring, at least the few I've seen. And, of course, DC decides to rip them off and do it worst despite DC having better characters. I mean, what were they thinking? Audio is processing now. Guys and gals, I'm a low typist. I've been sitting here for ten or so at this point. I could have uploaded a MP3 instead of WAV, but you guys deserve the best. So here I sit on my Sunday morning typing just to pass time. OH IT'S DONE ENJOY THE EPISODE BYE. Website: www.beetlemilk.com Twitch: Twitch.TV/Ghostbody

It's the exciting conclusion of our rock block, EMTs! We're discussing the second installment of the adventures of Pennywise the Dancing Clown in the 2019 film, "It Chapter Two." Special topics for your consideration include: the potential redemption of James McAvoy (we'll see), CGI bug babies and the feelings they stir up, trying to be friends with Jessica Chastain, a generalized disdain for giant Paul Bunyan, and the return of a classic recurring gag for us.  Last week (Episode 351) we discussed the first half of this unendingly long film series. In Episode 97 we discussed the miniseries. And just for fun, in Episode 126 we discussed "Cabin in the Woods," which I mention only because it's the spookytimes season and it's still one of my (Katie) favorite spookytimes movies of the last decade. Go watch that movie for your own happiness. Time to go back in..............time, for our pop culture classic episode!! We're going back thirty one years, to 1990, and we're here to talk about one of Stephen King's original projects, that was put on the small screen. Starring Tim Curry, Harry Anderson, John Ritter, Tim Reid, and more! We're of course talking about the original time that the being known as Pennywise graced our eyes, in the IT miniseries! "In 1960, seven preteen outcasts fight an evil demon that poses as a child-killing clown. Thirty years later, they reunite to stop the demon once and for all when it returns to their hometown." The original was filmed as a miniseries and aired over the course of several nights, BUT, now I think that most people who are going to watch it, will just watch it in one sitting. The movie of course follows a group of children, into their adulthood, who are haunted by an evil benevolent creature, that most commonly goes by the name of Pennywise the Dancing Clown! Pennywise is some kind of alien creature that has lived on earth for a long time, and comes out roughly every twenty seven years, in order to feed. If you've only seen the remakes, and have not given yourself the opportunity to check out the original, this is a MUST watch. If only for Curry's amazing performance as Pennywise! When Stephen King's Novel It came out, I don't think he knew there would be multiple adaptations of it spanning almost 30 years.  We know that the TV miniseries is iconic with Tim Curry's portrayal of Pennywise the Dancing Clown creating such a pandemic of coulrophobia (fear of clowns). 27 years later Bill Skarsgård brought us a very different version of the menacing clown. The debate will of course be which movie is better (if any). Drink: Beep Beep3/4 oz. Kinky Pink Liqueur3/4 oz. Blue Curacao*Garnish with some cotton candy.

The Development Hell podcast unearths Cary Fukunaga's (TRUE DETECTIVE) unmade adaptation of Stephen King's IT!  With guest Emily Gagne (BEST FRIENDS FOREVER), this new episode uncovers a very different (and darker) vision of Stephen King's seminal work of terror.  Emily Gagne is a filmmaker, podcaster and writer. She curates FINAL GIRL FASHION on Instagram, an account showcasing the killer outfits of women in horror. Emily also co-hosts the podcasts We Really Like Her! And What About Meryll.  Together we cover the IT miniseries, both feature films and the classic Stephen King novel which started it all. That's when we dive into Cary Fukunaga's and Chase Palmer's 2014 draft of the IT adaptation which was ultimately cancelled.  Furthermore, we explore the nitty-gritty differences between the Andy Muschietti vision of Derry and how it compares to the Fukanga/Chase draft. We also speculate wildly about why Warner Brothers jumped ship after developing IT with Fukanga for nearly five years.  If you are a fan of Stephen King's IT and Pennywise the Dancing Clown? If so, you won't want to miss this episode.  Do you think the recent films did the book justice? Let us know on social media!  You'll float too … but only if you subscribe to the pod on Apple, Spotify or anywhere you get your podcasts!  Development Hell is also a proud member of the Dread Podcast Network. For every horror title to hit V.O.D, countless others end up D.O.A! On the latest episode of Nick Nack Goes To The Movies, we dive into a story as old as time, the battle with fear itself. Another horror series in the It films, both the miniseries as well as the modern 2 parter. But more than just another scary movie that features Tim Curry, Seth Green, Jessica Chastain, James McAvoy, and of course Bill Hader, in its media adaptations. Here we have an amazing story about grief, trauma, getting over loss, friendship, coming together, and just growing up. This scary coming of age story has it all. Who doesn't want a free therapy session while watching something spooky AF? The horror genre does so well with its exploration of trauma, and these movies see how that impacts kids in the present, as well as how they all grow up. This Stephen King story is great and you will want to join Pennywise the Dancing Clown down here in the sewers to float down here with the rest of us. But with this tough year we have all had, maybe we can come through this episode, and part 2 of pandemic living, and rise up and be the better for it all. So time to take a deep emotional ride with me, I sure open up, that is when not talking about WandVision. So let me know which version or movie moment was your favorite or least favorite on social media, at either @NickNackMovies and @NickNack_IC on Instagram, Twitter, and Tik Tok. The hottest or most interesting take in the Nick Nack Mail Bag will be shared on the next episode! And keep an ear out for my amazing Pennywise impression attempt!
