They analyze the episode's complex narrative, exploring the blurred lines between reality and fiction. Victor emphasizes his theory that much of what we see may be fabricated from the protagonist Dave's book. Key moments discussed include Dave's inappropriate behavior during a lecture, Calderon's ongoing investigation, and the absurd and surreal final scenes, which suggest a fantasy element. Fran and Babs from Over/underrated podcast return to Flixwatcher to review Fran's choice Chef. Chef (2014) is a comedy drama road trip film, written, directed and starring Jon (Iron Man) Favreau. Also starring Sofía Vergara, John Leguizamo, Scarlett Johansson, Oliver Platt, Bobby Cannavale, Amy Sedaris, Emjay Anthony, and Dustin Hoffman, along with Robert Downey Jr. Miami Chef Carl Casper is the head chef at a popular LA restaurant but clashes with the restaurant owner over the menu. When he receives a negative food review from a prestigious food critic and blogger Ramsey Michel he unintentionally starts a Twitter (hello 2014!) spat. After a failed attempt to serve innovative cuisine to Michel and redeem his status, Casper quits and decides to take his food on the road in a food truck and drag his son along for the ride. Chef is a charming and easy going film, even if it is occasionally a vehicle for Favreau's ego. If you enjoy food and hold nostalgia for a time when Twitter was a fun social media platform then Chef is the film for you. Chef scores highly across all categories apart from repeat viewing to give an overall rating of 3.70. “Well, pumpkins, looks like it's the age-old dilemma. Style...or substance.” It's Pride season, and we watched the larger-than-life drag classic “To Wong Foo, Thanks For Everything. Julie Newmar,” and we need a recount of our Princess Points. Over the past 30 years, this movie has secured itself as one of the most quotable comedies of the 90s. This isn't just a funny gay movie; this is a funny movie, period. We promise we didn't spend the entire 90 minutes parroting our favorite quotes back and forth, but when we did… we just couldn't help ourselves. Our three leads took these roles, inhabited them, and as the kids these days say— they ate. And left no crumbs. Patrick Swayze, Wesley Snipes, and John Leguizamo took a huge risk accepting these roles, but boy did it pay off. Miss Vida Boheme, Noxeema Jackson, and Chi Chi Rodriguez are on the Mount Rushmore of movie drag queens, and this movie is a treasure to the gays. We acknowledge some gender issues that are at play and some outdated terminology, but the script and the performances all came from a place of love. Clock the Grande Dames of drag in the opening and closing scenes and try to keep tally with us. Get ready for a fun one… Red and Wild. That's our theme! This Pride Month, Mark Radulich and Sean Comer celebrate the flamboyant, fearless, and fiercely important legacies of three trailblazing films: The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert (1994), To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar (1995), and Hedwig and the Angry Inch (2001). While each tells its own unique story—from a desert drag road trip across the Australian outback to a heartfelt exploration of gender identity through glam rock cabaret—they are all interconnected by the historical arc of queer visibility in cinema. These films didn't just showcase LGBTQ+ characters—they centered them, in eras where that was still an act of rebellion.Priscilla broke ground internationally, putting Australian queer cinema on the global map and normalizing drag culture long before RuPaul's Drag Race made it mainstream. Just one year later, To Wong Foo introduced Middle America to drag queens with heart, humor, and dignity—starring mainstream Hollywood actors like Patrick Swayze, Wesley Snipes, and John Leguizamo at the height of their careers. Then came Hedwig, a deeply personal indie musical about gender, trauma, and artistic expression, which has since become a cult favorite and a cornerstone of trans representation in modern film and theater. Together, these films reflect the evolution of queer and trans narratives—from coded subtext to full-throated declarations of identity and humanity.More than just products of their time, these movies pushed culture forward. They asked audiences to look beyond binary norms and embrace love, transformation, and self-expression in all forms. Whether through sequins, ballads, or beat-up buses, these stories assert—loudly and proudly—that queer people, drag performers, and trans individuals deserve joy, complexity, and a place in the cinematic canon. And as we revisit them in 2025, their messages feel just as urgent, defiant, and beautiful as ever.Disclaimer: The following may contain offensive language, adult humor, and/or content that some viewers may find offensive – The views and opinions expressed by any one speaker does not explicitly or necessarily reflect or represent those of Mark Radulich or W2M Network.Mark Radulich and his wacky podcast on all the things:https://linktr.ee/markkind76alsohttps://www.teepublic.com/user/radulich-in-broadcasting-networkFB Messenger: Mark Radulich LCSWTiktok: @markradulichtwitter: @MarkRadulichInstagram: markkind76RIBN Album Playlist: https://suno.com/playlist/91d704c9-d1ea-45a0-9ffe-5069497bad59

The PhilenApocalypse is back with a vengeance in Super 3D! Well, it's an audio podcast, so it's not really in 3D but this is the third PhilenApocalypse. Have there really been three of these things??? Yes, there have been three and this time it's the DRAG STORY TIME edition where Philena fails to completely torment the olds but she does enlighten them. First she goes back 30 years for the family-friendly, Spielberg-produced, and strangely-titled drag queen road epic, TO WONG FOO, THANKS FOR EVERYTHING! JULIE NEWMAR (1995) where ripped action stars Patrick Swayze and Wesley Snipes get in touch with their feminine side as drag queens driving across America in what the filmmakers described as "Easy Rider with dresses." Along for the ride is comedian and performance artist John Leguizamo as Chi-Chi Rodriguez, a young drag queen in training. Then Philena digs into her teen years HURRICANE BIANCA (2016) with RuPaul's Drag Race Season Six champ BIANCA DEL RIO, who wreaks havoc on a Texas high school after they fire her cis-gendered alter-ego Richard for being gay. Starring Rachel Dratch (!) as the evil vice principal with Alan Cumming in a jarring cameo as a kind of agent for high school teachers I guess, and RuPaul via Zoom or Skype, or whatever people were phoning things in with in 2016. Does Philena torture Bob, Greg and Cory with this one? You'll have to listen to find out, but the results may surprise you. In the opening, the OMFYS crew avoids talking about Nathan Fielder (barely), but they do talk about the box office phenomenon of SINNERS, even though Philena and Cory scold Bob about daring to reveal even the most minor plot points. Bob and Greg also tell their tale of meeting the late JOE DON BAKER (RIP) at the Judo Gene LeBell Roast which somehow ends with Tigger twerking with deadly MMA superstars. Joe the King was the directorial debut of long-time career supporting actor and occasional indie leading man Frank Whaley, who also wrote the script based partly on his own life. It stars Noah Fleiss in the title role, Karen Young, John Leguizamo, Whaley's friend and frequent collaborator Ethan Hawke, Camryn Manheim, Max Ligosh, a very young Kate Mara, and Whaley's The Doors co-star, the late Val Kilmer. as Joe's abusive alcoholic father. Critics were kind of all over the place about Joe the King, a film very much of its time, although the performances, especially those of Fleiss and Kilmer, were widely praised. Joe the King was given a very limited release on October 15, going on to gross just $60,000, but a few those dollars once belonged to our guest for this episode, Zaki Hasan, who actually saw it in a movie theater 26 years ago. Zaki is is a professor, award-winning writer, and film critic for, among other things, the San Francisco Chronicle. You can find him on Bluesky @zakiscorner

Political Detox explores the state of our society, the anxiety we are feeling, and ways we can navigate the chaos. Dr. G and Tonya talk about the administration's attempt to rewrite American history by erasing culture. Rick Najera is a creative force whose pen has carved bold, brown lines across Broadway stages, Hollywood screens, and the national conversation on Latino identity. A true original, Rick's storytelling blends sharp wit, deep heart, and fearless cultural commentary. From the bright lights of Latinologues on Broadway—his groundbreaking work that gave voice to untold Latino stories—to the writer's room of In Living Color and Mad TV (where he worked with Key and Peel and Jamie Fox and Jenifer Lopez), Rick has always led with authenticity. His Showtime comedy specials, Diary of a Dad Man and Legally Brown, showcase his rare ability to make you laugh while cracking open truths about family, faith, and identity. A writer, actor, producer, and cultural visionary, Rick's credits span television, film, and theater—including work with Fox, Hulu, Warner Bros., and major studios—while never losing sight of his mission: to elevate the Latino narrative. As the creator and host of Latino Thought Makers, Rick has become a leading voice in the dialogue around Latino excellence and empowerment, speaking across the nation to inspire the next generation, interviewing Dr. Cornel West and Dolores Huerta and Danny Trejo and many more. Whether it's behind the scenes or center stage, Rick Najera doesn't just tell stories—he builds bridges, breaks barriers, and makes sure we all laugh along the way. Latin History for Morons marks the second time he has worked with Leguizamo. He wrote the holiday classic Nothing Like the Holidays starring John Leguizamo. Most recently, he wrote and directed Sweet 15, his interactive Quinceanera that played to audiences in Miami and Chicago. With two Writers Guild nominations for his work in comedy, he is a rare writer that finds brave stories that make you laugh. Send us a Question!MOVIE DISCUSSION: Kathryn joins Melvin to discuss Jon Favreau's grounded indie-style flick, Chef! The two explore themes of maturing and parenthood, the relationship between the artist and the observer, and the importance of passion in everyday life. Topics:(PATREON EXCLUSIVE) 25-minutes talking about those insane A Minecraft Movie screenings where people are throwing their popcorn and bringing live chickens, and how that's wildly different to otherwise incredibly engaging fan screenings of The Room or Rocky Horror Picture Show. (PATREON EXCLUSIVE)Kathryn shares what it is about Chef that she really enjoys.Melvin compares Chef to Parks & Recreation, saying how it's a movie with conflict but ultimately everyone still kinda likes each other. It's fairly clear that Chef is somewhat an artistic response to John Favreau's experience with Marvel, Iron Man 2, and the subsequent critical response to it.Which food in the movie got us the most hungry. The movie explores the dynamics of the artist and the observer (or, critic), and Melvin spends some time categorizing what he thinks are variations of these archetypes.Chef depicts professionalism and the pursuit of maturity well.Sometimes eating food is like time travel.Seeking to live a life by design, not by default.Recommendations:Salt, Fat, Acid, Heat: Mastering the Elements of Good Cooking (2017) (Cookbook)Salt Fat Acid Heat (2018) (Cooking Show)Try new and exotic foods, and be adventurous with what you eat!
