"I'm never getting slammed again." Erie's Deven Zendarksi learned plenty during his MMA debut back at Brawl in the Burgh 12, where he lost a unanimous decision to Stout PGH's Zach Snyder. Among those lessons? Don't get slammed. That's a big one. Besides that, though, Zendarski also learned about the process. There's more to a fight than showing up and throwing heat at your opponent's dome. With one fight in the bag, he understands that well. Now, Zendarski returns to the 247 FC cage to show off his improvements. He'll face Absolute Martial Arts' Falco Teti Saturday, Oct. 1, at Brawl in the Burgh 13 inside the Monroeville Convention Center –– and he cannot wait for fight night. > After speaking with Zendarski on the Pittsburgh Combat Sports Podcast, it's easy to see why he's so eager to get back inside that cage. Enjoy the show.
Jesus, OK, why did I do this and what the hell is my point? The Snyder cut took me by complete surprise when the hashtag #releasethesnydercut became reality. It was something to do during quarantine. I put it on while running on an elliptical machine, expecting a mild diversion at best. But despite my cynicism, "Zach Snyder's Justice League" won me over with its ambition, confidence, lack of irony, visual inventiveness, epic spectacle and I'm going to stop there. I didn't mean to write a list when I started that sentence. My intention was.a tight statement of purpose. Sorry. This should be the last superhero movie. It tells its story with utmost earnestness and believes that it can use its superheroes to connect emotionally with audiences in a genuine way. The goal is to be an epic that communicates something fundamental and imporant about the human race. And, because superhero stories are incapable of supporting such lofty ambitions, it falls short of that goal. in doing so, it clearly defines the limits of superhero stories. This is exactly how good they can get. Experiment done. We can stop now. Maybe consider going back to Westerns or hey! What about vampires? Or comedies. Remember comedies? Let's make some comedies. It's fun to be in a room full of strangers laughing at stuff. Anyway, I haven't recorded the follow up (follow ups?) yet. If everybody hates this idea, maybe I never will.

After a much needed three week break into Predator territory, The Three Men And A Retrospective podcast is taking quite a jump this week. Batman V Superman Dawn of Justice was released a full twelve years and four in universe films after the film that was the basis of our previous DC review, Catwoman. Why did we take this approach? That is one of the many questions they answer in this full in depth episode of the Three Men and a Retrospective Podcast. The other questions asked involve a lot of what went into this extremely polarizing Zach Snyder directed film. But if we were to answer everything that went into the making of the 2016 superhero film, it would take two podcasts. Which is why we are reviewing it AGAIN from Superman's perspective next year. But for now, listen in as the guys take a look at BvS from Batman's point of view, and judge how each character we have followed in this seemingly non ending dive into the Batman Universe.

Welcome back to #Millennial, the home of pretend adulting and BeReal talk. Friend of the show and fellow podcaster Eric joins us this week! Do we actually want our friends to know what mundane things we're up to? A new report from Rolling Stone claims that bots, and perhaps even Zach Snyder himself, may have played a role in the social media push for the release of The Snyder Cut of 'Justice League.' Do we worry about bots when participating in social media movements? On a related note, the vast majority of teens do not trust news coming from TikTok. Huzzah! On the other hand, there is a ton of misleading information coming out of TikTok. How did teens learn to be skeptical of their social platform but Boomers still treat Facebook articles like the gospel?! While Biden and Trump are the obvious frontrunners for 2024 (for now), both are lagging in the polls among their own supporters. Should Joe Biden run in 2024? The panel has some split opinions. Would implementing an upper age limit as a qualifier for President be ageist? One major issue behind Biden's lagging approval ratings: Democrats are harder on him than Republicans were on Trump at the same stage of presidency. Laura's plea: get in line in 2024. For the love of god. This week's recommendations will feed your body and soul: Find a Choco Taco if you can (RIP) (Andrew), Nest Thermostat (Laura), See's candies chocolate coffee beans (Pam), and Yellowstone National Park (Eric). Find Eric on his podcast Thank You For Spieling and of course MuggleCast! And in this week's installment of After Dark, available on Patreon: It's all about fan conventions baby! First we provide a brief overview of this year's SDCC announcements. In the era of covid, how safe can meet and greets even be? Eric shares a tale of plexiglass, photo ops, and a celeb still getting covid anyway. As someone who has done quite a few meet and greets with celebrities, Eric shares his experiences and tips for having a successful meet and greet. Does going to a convention right now feel responsible?
Zach Snyder earned a ton of fans at Brawl in the Burgh 12 –– and for good reason. Learn more about what sets the Stout PGH rep apart here. The post Podcast: Is Stout PGH's Zach Snyder the Most LIKABLE Dude on Earth?! appeared first on 247 Fighting Championships.
Zach Snyder gets it. Training out of Stout PGH, Snyder boasts some of the best coaching and instruction in the city –– but he always understands that the sport of MMA is more than just the performance in the cage. From his Brawl in the Burgh 12 walk-out to his epic post-fight speech, Snyder embraced the entertainment aspect of the sport, a rarity for a fighter just making his amateur debut. And he's just getting started at north of 30 years old. And he's not sure where he's gonna go from here. > Speaking on the Pittsburgh Combat Sports Podcast with 247 FC GM Hunter Homistek, Snyder breaks down that debut performance and much, much more. Enjoy the show (you will).
Titular Marvel Cinematic Universe actors month creeps into week two. Is Ghostbusters: Afterlife all just nostalgia or is there more to be had in this legacy sequel. The boys discuss if a kid based Ghostbusters movie is a good idea, if Zach Snyder should direct a Spider-man movie, and if Sony is a bad movie studio. Synopsis from IMDB: When a single mom and her two kids arrive in a small town, they begin to discover their connection to the original Ghostbusters and the secret legacy their grandfather left behind. This week, we're talking Superheroes! Why is it so rare to see a great romance in a superhero story? Is there really no room for love and capes? Do heroes eat? (spoiler: obviously) — We're joined by author Barry Lyga, a comics and superhero expert, to discuss all this and more…and to chat about the new YA Superhero anthology, Generation Wonder, in which Sarah has a short story (it's a romance). We also recommend some great superhero romances and comics, because of course we do. Do yourself a favor — be sure to check out show notes this week. The visuals are a delight.Fated Mates Live, in person, is happening!!! We'll be in Alexandria, VA on July 30th — join us there! We'll be joined by a ton of our favorites…find more information about the event and get tickets through Old Town Books! Thanks to Penguin Random House, publisher of Andie J. Christopher's Thank You, Next, for sponsoring the episode. Thanks, also, to Lumi Labs, creators of Microdose Gummies. Visit microdose.com and use code FATEDMATES to get free shipping & 30% off your first order. Our next read along is Virginia Henley's The Dragon and the Jewel, a deep cut from Sarah's childhood. Check your content warnings and remember this one is from 1991, so we don't even know, honestly. We're flying without a net here. Get it at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Apple, Kobo or your local indie.Show NotesThanks to Old Town Books, we are going to have a real Fated Mates Live event at Apollycon at the end of July. It will be Saturday evening July 30th in Alexandria. Stay tuned for details. Welcome Barry Lyga, comics author and editor of the YA superhero anthology Generation Wonder. Sarah has a story in the anthology, and we'll hope you'll buy one for the young reader in your life. There was no kissing in Doctor Strange, but we've been promised there will be in Thor: Love and Thunder. In fact, Taika Waititi said Mills & Boon, so...that's official.Back in the day, romance comics were just as popular as superhero comics. Check out the site Sequential Crush to see the history of romance comics. If after this episode you think you might want to check out more comics, Suzanne's site Love in Panels is the best place to start. Comics writer Mark Waid wrote about manhood and comics in an essay that is no longer available online, but Mark is also the author of Irredeemable, a comic about Superman turning villainous. Another essay about how modern superhero movies are romance and sex-free is called Everyone is Beautiful and No One is Horny. If you have little kids, check out the Mia Mayhem series of graphic novels. Jen was on Heaving Bosoms to discuss Cinnamon Blade. The TV Show about the superheroes going to work is called The Boys.Exactly one year ago (well, one year ago yesterday), Justin Halpern and Patrick Schumacker, co-creators of the DC Entertainment-HBO Max adult animated series “Harley Quinn,” told Variety that DC Comics removed a scene from the show of Batman "dining feline" (h/t bleedingcool for this delightful euphemism), saying "Heroes don't do that." As is right and just, the internet disagreed and #HeroesWhoEat and #BatmanGoesDown were born. It was a great day.For what it's worth, it wasn't just the internet that disagreed. Zach Snyder confirmed that Batman in fact does eat, with one of the greatest tweets of all time. At least, we think so. DC apparently did not care for it. While we like Snyder's version very much, here are some other NSFW images we like almost as much (eye headphones in): From artist @Mrs_Van_Damn; commentary from @realAgdtwinkie; from artist (with excellent commentary) @ArtKhobra; and this one, from artist @rpace, with special love for the pegging crew.
We did it! It's been a long time coming, but we finally did a Spoiler-ific review of Batman: Hush. We mostly discuss the comic series run, but also mention the movie for comparison. We discuss the much revered Batman story arc, Hush from early 2000s, featuring the brilliant artwork of Jim Lee, and writing prowess of Jeff Loeb. There are some disagreements. Hear Seth rant and rave (some old), and awe as Matt even joins in (a rarity). We compare it to the movie, and even over comic runs. But is it Repeatable? HOO wee, we've got a humdinger of an episode for you this week because the Don't Worry Crew watched the Zach Snyder (!) animated movie The Owls of Ga'Hoole. The hosts agree that Snyder's signature slow mo fits perfectly in this genre, Amanda reveals some... disturbing abilities, and Wade, well, is a bit disturbed. Oh yeah, and it's now canon that both hosts can't read, and that won't be contradicted in future episodes, guaranteed. The new Taiwanese film The Sadness is bound to end up one of the most talked about horror films of the year. It pushes the envelope in every concievable way, and will stoke the embers of the Zombie genre in ways nothing has since Zach Snyder tried his hand at it. Love it or hate it, this is a film that will elicit a response. Join Andrew in a discussion on his screening of the film, and mostly a discussion as where it really fits into modern horror. Trigger Warning, this might not be a positive review, and might/would piss the director right off. Enjoy, everyone! contact the show- AndrewWatchesFilm@gmail.com

THIS WEEK ON THE NERDY VENOMS PODCAST -- With WarnerDiscovery's new execs demaning an overhaul of their DC film franchises, we have potentially reached what may be the end of Zach Snyder's bewilderingly dark film franchise. But worry not Snyderbros! We've got some ideas with what you can do with your spare time now that HashtagRestoreTheSnyderverse ain't gonna work no more. IN OTHER TOPICS, we discuss the apparent sudden hatred of Taika Waititi's Thor adaptations when compared to the original (which WAS good BTW) and whether or not Elon Musk wants to make a quick buck off the mutants of Venusville. All that and the news on this week's ball busting Nerdy Venoms podcast!

The Ray Bradbury and Philip K. Dick bundle has 9 short stories from these legendary sci-fi authors. Available now for only $4.97 at LostSciFi.com.We've already narrated 5 sci-fi stories written by William Morrison and many more are on the way. We had no idea that William Morrison was born Joseph Samachson on October 13, 1906, in Trenton, New Jersey, the son of Russian Jewish parents. This guy has an incredible bio. He graduated fromRutgers University, then earned a Ph.D. in chemistry fromYaleat the age of 23. He was an assistant professor at the College of Medicine, at the University of Illinois. He also headed a laboratory in metabolic research at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Chicago. Samachson worked as aresearch chemistfor theAmerican Molasses Companyuntil 1938, leaving to become a "freelance technical writer".Then in 1941 his first short sci-fi story was released. Writing as William Morrison, for reasons unknown, "Bad Medicine"appeared in Thrilling Wonder Stories magazine in February 1941. He would go on to write about 80 short sci-fi stories over the next 17 years. If that's not enough, he started writing for DC Comics sometime around 1942. Contributing to stories for both Batman and Superman, he even created a character of his own. That character would appear in the 4-hour epic, Zach Snyder's Justice League released in 2021. Played by veteran Hollywood actor Harry Lennix, the character Samachson created 66 years earlier appeared on the big screen. John Johns, aka Martian Manhunter is a shapeshifter stranded on Earth originally from Mars. Martian Manhunter first appeared in the November 1955 issue #225 of Detective Comics. A copy of issue #225 sold 5 years ago for an amazing $120,000! You can find a copy on eBay right now at the bargain Buy It Now Price for only $34,995. Joseph Samachson also found time to write scripts for a science fiction television series that aired on the DuMont Television Network. Captain Video and His Video Rangers aired from 1949 to 1955. Not to mention your reach is probably like, less than 5% on your FB page posts. So what do we do? Enter the private, online community of Discord! And here are two guys from BlackBar who can tell you all about how to use it, Zach and Caleb! I think that Discord is a must for kids and student ministry digital communities now and in the future, may become more and more important for adults as well. EPISODE 1 - “Whatever We Can Do To Help”Greetings Super friends! Welcome to Superman & Lois & Pals. I'm Henry Bernstein and alongside me is my favorite super pal, Professor Sam Brody. It's been about 6 months since we've recorded. We have seen each other in person where we did a super hero media thing. We saw Spider-Man No Way Home together! I also got to show you my Superhero action figure collection and my extensive DC Comics library.I want to thank the more than 1100 people who downloaded our little pod. This started as an outlet for me to talk about Superman on TV and we really appreciate you for listening to us!Let's talk about Superman and Lois Season 2S02E01 - “What Lies Beneath?”Directed by Gregory Smith Writing Credits:Brent Fletcher and Todd HelbingThree months after Nat's arrival, things start to settle down. Sarah returns from camp and gives Jordan the cold shoulder, Clark and Lois fight, Lana throws herself into a mayoral campaign, Superman comes to terms with Sam's replacement, and earthquakes shakes Smallville. Things we wanted at the end of last season:Better costume - done. S looks brighter, and is set within the costume. The costume moves a bit when he moves around showing that he's not wearing the fake padding anymore. Much more form fitting. As much as I like 5 o'clock shadow Clark, I still want clean shaven Superman.Stories that make sense - kind of but the angry Lois thing, eh.3 months later:Lois - So are we to believe that Lois has just been an asshole to sweet, kind, sensitive, patient Clark and her CHILDREN for 3 months with zero explanation? DOesn't sound like the Lois we've gotten to know. Her explanation was totally reasonable but THREE MONTHS?! “Dad, how long is she gonna be like this?” That's some intense shit for a family. Lois is kinda acting like a moody teenager. It just wasn't realistic to me that everything Clark said to her she found annoying. And the argument they had was just completely unreasonable. She's short with Jordan but then mad when he doesn't go into details about Sarah. Who cares that he got arrested at Atlas Pond? Who cares that he doesn't want to talk about it? He's being respectful. Really interesting stuff with Lois' mom being a deadbeat and abandoning her and Lucy. That would definitely harden someone like Sam. This isn't something we've heard about before so it came as a bit of a surprise. Seemed odd though that a couple that previously had amazing communication, would take 3 months to have this talk. I guess Clark has super-patience as one of his powers. IronsWhat have John Henry and Natalie been doing for 3 months? Why did John Henry have to stop Natalie from running and hugging Lois? Clark - Awesome dad, awesome partner. The way in which I fell in love with Bitsie Tulloch last season, I'm falling in love with Tyler. He gets this character. His talk with Lois is so supportive and his talk with his boys was so sweet and hilarious. When Jonathan mouths, “mom,” I laughed. Clark's super smell thing with Jordan's cologne. Super funny thing that Jonathan's girlfriend said the same advice as clark and he's just like “stupid teenagers.” and then being like, “oh Jonathan Come on!” when Lois is pissed about catching Jonathan with Candace. Superman - BANGER of a way to show some Super feats. Superman lifting a freaking sub and the North Koreans saying, “Superman saved us” is just pure joy. I was smiling ear to ear. Rescuing people from an earthquake is also so super. I'm enjoying the conversation about whether Superman is just for America or not. I sort of like this soft spoken, thoughtful General Anderson. What was affecting Superman's super-senses? Kryptonite? Who were those Super beings? X-Kryptonite soldiers?Cushings - Gotta say, I'm a little disappointed that Lana is just running this stranger's (to us) campaign and she's not running herself. I like Clark and Kyle bonding a little. Sarah's weirdness around Jordan is totally relatable. And I don't really care. I love that Smallville is cashing in on Superman to help the economy. Love the JLGL cut out of Superman.Doomsday - It looks like they're going to do some comic-accurate stuff. But I feel like we've seen Doomsday recently with BvS crap and Krypton.

We were finally able to re-record our Watchmen episode with no technical hiccups! In this episode we discuss the differences between Alan Moore's graphic novel and Zack Snyder's film adaptation as well as as another film adaptation that was thankfully never made.
Caitlin is joined by artist, kickball champion, and fellow Richmonder Stephanie to talk about the 2004 remake of Dawn of the Dead. We ask lots of questions. Where would you spend time if you lived in the mall? Can cats eat bananas? Is CJ the proto-Daryl? Does CJ have the best redemption arc in horror history? How would zombie babies eat? Is Steve just the bizarro world version of Phil Dunphy? ARE you down with the sickness?

We're back to read alongs this week! We're big Kylie Scott fans here at Fated Mates, and we talked about her Stage Dive series all the way back in Season One on our very first interstitial, and now we're doing a deep dive. We'd intended to do book three, Lead, but we ended up talking about all four, and honestly, rereading this was pretty great for us. We hope it was great for you, too. Our next read along, sometime in July, is Cat Sebastian's wonderful Unmasked by the Marquess. Get it at Amazon, Apple Books, B&N, Kobo, or Bookshop.org.Thank you, as always, for listening! Please follow us on your favorite podcasting app, and if you are up for leaving a rating or review there, we would be very grateful!Show NotesSarah has a book coming on August 24th! Preorder Bombshell now. You won't regret it.Everyone is struggling with getting dressed again. It's a 1001 in the 1001 Dark Nights series as an homage and allusion to Scheherazade, the story-teller of the Arabian Nights. We also love the VIP series by Kristen Callihan, and the 4th book in that series, Exposed, comes out next month, July 2021.On our upcoming episode with Susan Elizabeth Phillips, where she told us that back in the day, “rock stars, actors, and athletes” were not allowed in the early days of romance. We aren't sure why, but we speculate that it was fear of putting “sex, drugs, and rock and roll” and other high roller lifestyles on page. If you want to join the OSRBC group (Old School Romance Book Club) on Facebook, make sure to answer the three questions if you want to be admitted.Beverly Jenkins liked the Stage Dive series, too.Andi Arndt is the narrator of all Kylie's books, including the entire Stage Dive series, and Jen thinks she is terrific. The Captains' Vegas Vows has a similar set up to Lick: waking up married in Vegas, and only one of them remembered what happened. “Retcon” is a word that started out as shorthand for retroactive continuity, and here's a piece from Merriam-Webster explaining its remarkable elasticity.Hyperemesis gravidarum is the medical term for severe morning sickness, which affects about one percent of pregnant people. DC comics claims that Batman doesn't go down, but the internet and everyone else on twitter and even Zach Snyder disagred. But in all seriousness, maybe it's just another interesting data point about America turning back towards the Hays Code and continuing to remove sex from all kinds of media.Thelma and Louise does have a great ending, you can't argue with that. And since 2021 is the 30th anniversary of the film's release, there are lots of interesting retrospectives on the movie.Desmond Morris is an English zoologist who outlined the 12 stages of intimacy -- hey, humans are animals, too!
