Show notes provided by Joe Peluso Hey PILGRIM strap on your web-shooters and get ready to sling back to the "swingin' sixties" and join James and Joe as they trek down to that special corner once again, and this time are transported back to the spring of 1966. What's so special about this tie-dyed season? What fantastic forces dropped them in the flower-power era? Would youbelieve everyone's favorite "friendly neighborhood" superhero? Appearing on newsstand and spinner racks across the nation, in May and June of that year were issues #39 and #40 of THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN--and Peter Parker's life would never be the same again! It's the classic two-parter that delivers monumental mayhem, and the most awesome avalanche of senses-shattering thrills when Spidey and his arch nemesis--The Green Goblin--throw down for a raucous rumble that rocks The Big Apple! This one has it all: action, mystery, suspense, soap opera,comedy--and calamity! James and Joe employ their "spidey-senses" to bring you an inciteful, fun review of two--just two--comic books that quantified who our favorite "web-head" was back when. And then, how this adventure informed the choices made decades later by Sam Rami and others, as the kid from Queens swung onto the big screen. Stan Lee, and newly arrived penciler, John Romita Sr.create amarvelous masterpiece of four-color ferocity that will blow your mind! We think this trip to that special corner was well worth thetrip. So to quote Stan "The Man"--ENJOY!!!
In Episode 50 of Secret Level, Billy and Joey thrust themselves into the world of Sam Rami's awesome 1981 horror film The Evil Dead! This is always a fun movie to revisit and there are a lot of interesting and fun behind-the-scenes stories that we came across in our research that we have a blast talking about! From the crazy story behind the cabin where they filmed the movie to all the challenges the crew faced during the production. Ultimately, the creative team made an incredible horror movie that launched an insanely successful franchise that is still going strong!
That's right, true believers, it's the triumphant return of Capes and Cold Ones! Join Rich and John as they dissect what many consider to be the gold standard of comic book movies - Spider-Man 2 directed by Sam Rami. John gives a brief run down on the hurried pre-production that somehow still allowed arguably the best movie to ever feature your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man. The two also do not forget to praise one of the best villains turns as well with Alfred Molina donning the extra four mechanic arms as Doc Ock. This is going to be a marathon discussion, so get comfy, crack a cold one and enjoy this chat.
“There's something out there. That... that witch in the cellar is only part of it. It lives... out in those woods, in the dark... something... something that's come back from the dead.” Happy Halloween! This episode we are getting “groovy” with Ash in Evil Dead 2. This bonkers Sam Rami film from 1987 has an amazing cult following but will it have two more by the end of the episode? So let's all sit back and celebrate the spookiest night of the year with this madcap film and a well earned beverage of your choice. As always, thank you for listening. Please share with anyone who is a fan of these films and the 80's in general. You can get in touch with us on the links below. Cheersy! The October MOTM is a horror film, in recognition of Halloween and this year we have a truly frightening film, but still with a lot of humor. It comes from director Sam Rami, so that mixture will be no surprise to the deadites out there, but this film does not feature Bruce Campbell. Instead, we get Alison Lohman, being physically and mentally abused as a curse threatens to take her to hell via a violent lamia. Matthew Simpson of the Awesome Friday Podcast was the movie's champion, and he takes over the hosting duties. Damien Riley of "But I Digress" spends a lot of time admiring Miss Lohman in the film, and we talk about out favorite horror film directors as well. Plenty of spoilers, but with a film titled "Drag Me to Hell" you have a pretty good idea of what is coming.

Aimee Miles has been 100% dedicated to her acting career since childhood. She's a native to Northern California, a graduate of the prestigious Wesleyan University in Connecticut, a bilingual Spanish speaker who did her thesis on Latin American Theatre under military dictatorships... no kidding! Now Aimee lives in the California's Gold Country with her family, has a home studio and she is still working out of a base in San Francisco. Aimee is the true example of someone who never sacrificed their dreams and followed their passion. She's got a metric ton of great advice for other actors out there coming up in the game too. So pay attention! Todd Kramer and Jay Reum have a delightful and insightful chat with Aimee, and Jay was even almost moved to tears from the inspiration of it all. IMDB ※=※=※=※=※=※=※=※=※=※=※

Mike Burdge and Tim Irwin start off a new Overdrinkers mini-series covering the comic book adaptations of the 90s that were directly inspired by the tone and success of Batman (1989). First up, it's Sam Rami's notoriously awesome, Darkman (1990), Warren Beatty's batshit bananas Dick Tracy (1990) and Joe Johnston's inarguably fun, The Rocketeer (1991). Along the way, they discuss the changes in comic book and superhero adaptation fare, as well as the successes and failures of the genre over the past 30+ years. Listen on…. Overdrinkers Cocktail: The Rocke-Who? 2 oz Floral Gin 1/2 oz Vodka 1/2 oz Luxardo Maraschino 1/4 oz Orange Curaçao 3/4 oz Lemon Juice Combine all ingredients with ice and shake well. This week we discuss the soundtracks to Sam Rami's Spider-Man 2 & 3. Spider-Man 2002 was a huge hit and proved that comic book movies could be culturally ubiquitous. As we know now, they're inescapable. "Vindicated" (Dashboard Confessional)2. "Ordinary" (Train) 3. "Did You" (Hoobastank)4. "Hold On" (Jet)5. "Gifts and Curses" (Yellowcard)6. "Woman" (Maroon 5)7. In this episode we're covering Sam Rami's hit 2002 film Spider-Man! I mean Cottonee! The Cotton Puff Pokemon! Don't worry we're totally not tired and distracted at all. Follow along with the entries below: Black: When attacked, it escapes by shooting cotton from its body. The cotton serves as a decoy to distract the attacker. White: They go wherever the wind takes them. On rainy days, their bodies are heavier, so they take shelter beneath big trees. Black & White 2: Perhaps because they feel more at ease in a group, they stick to others they find. They end up looking like a cloud. Sun: When it finds others of its kind, they all stick together. When enough of them have collected, the mass resembles a cumulonimbus cloud. Moon: Pillows and beds stuffed with cotton exhaled by Cottonee are soft and puffy, light and airy— altogether top quality. Ultra Sun: To protect itself, it shoots cotton from its body. When it gets wet in the rain, its cotton grows moist and heavy, and it can't move as well. Ultra Moon: When attacked, it expels cotton from its body to create a diversion. The cotton it loses grows back in quickly. Sword: It shoots cotton from its body to protect itself. If it gets caught up in hurricane-strength winds, it can get sent to the other side of the Earth. Shield: Weaving together the cotton of both Cottonee and Eldegoss produces exquisite cloth that's highly prized by many luxury brands. BTB: A world-traveling little puffball that generates cotton in perhaps a variety of fashions. That cotton is the real good stuff.
