Episode 61 – Conversation With Kit Sinclair In this episode, I speak with Kit Sinclair. Kit is an Occupational Therapist based in Hong Kong who has dedicated her life work to the profession. Kit has been involved in the development of the profession in Asia and other parts of the world. She has also been part of the World Federation of Occupational Therapy at different level including Presidency. In the episode, we discuss her work and also her part in creating learning modules for Disaster Management & Preparedness and work with displaced people in Occupational Therapy. Episode 40 – Prison & Sensory Approaches On this week’s episode, I am in conversation with Gisele Craswell, an Occupational Therapist based in Canada about the use of sensory approaches in prison environment. We discuss the sensory experiences of people in prison and the possible impact on functioning. We also discuss what the evidence says about sensory interventions and mental health, the challenges in providing sensory interventions in prisons and Gisele provides advice for OTs based in prison or forensic units who want to develop a sensory pathway. Episode 34 – Prison Mental Health OT In this episode, I am joined by Charlotte Wise & Katie Vaneker to discuss their roles working in mental health teams within a prison. We discuss what a typical day looks like and the challenges around this and the difficulty in maintaining an occupation focused practice in a highly restricted environment. Katie also shares her experience of having spent a month in a Nepalese prison. This is the first episode of the mini-series exploring the role and impact of occupational therapy within the criminal justice system. She is in the final stages of completing a PhD at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience at King's College London on how we can better understand sex differences and similarities in the autism profile. Since 2012, Hannah has been delivering autism psycho-educational workshops with male and female offenders across London prisons. Having been part of a successful bid for government funding in early 2018, she is now partnering with St. Giles Trust to improve service provision for women with mental health and complex support needs in England’s Criminal Justice System. Hannah has dedicated herself to autism research and tirelessly advocates for increased public understanding of women on the spectrum, and indeed the greater well-being of all those with neurodiverse conditions. Emma Kurran is a 3D Artist and an Autistic woman. She was diagnosed at 18 years old whilst at university. She originally trained as a 3D Character Animator and worked on some amazing VFX films, including Jungle Book (2016), Exodus: Gods and Kings (2014) and Guardians of the Galaxy (2014) for a few hectic years, then became a freelance animator and illustrator for a change in pace.
