In today's episode, we sit down and speak with Dr. Jim Patton of Vanderbilt University. Dr. Patton has been researching how certain retinal stem-cells in zebrafish are able to regenerate and repair themselves after being damaged. If this ability can be applied to humans, it could prove to offer eye-saving treatment for many and is an exciting look into the future of optical regeneration and eye care.

Dr. Arrindell grew up in the VirginIslands, went to college at Michigan State, went to medical school at the University of Iowa, aswell as did his residency at the University of Michigan. Dr. Arrindell and some of his fellowmedical professionals founded a practice called Tennessee Retina in 2008. Dr. Arrindell'spractice is well known for quality care and advanced high level research into retinal issues anddiseases.November is National Diabetes Awareness Month and Diabetic Eye Awareness Month. Dr. Jeffdiscusses how there is a lot of talk in the healthcare community about the “diabetic epidemic”.Dr. Arrindell discusses that there is an increasing volume of patients with diabetes however thenumber of cases he sees with advanced diabetes and advanced diabetic eye issues hasdecreased. Dr. Arrindell attributes this to catching issues in patients earlier.
