Jim Patton and I didn't meet through the running community. You'll have to listen to hear the story. I like to think of Indy as a "small, big town". During this conversation we talk about: How Jim and I know each other His sub-4 hour marathon in Mesa 2024 Working on his nutrition, strength and following a running plan helped him find “edge” How he got into running 15 years ago The story of him being the first person to register for the Carmel Half Marathon (ever!) and one of the first members of the Carmel Runners Club Why he joins Indy Runners and Carmel Runners Club every year 2011 Marine Corps Marathon was his first marathon Getting sober 15.5 years ago and how that ties into his running journey Finding ways to give back - Back on My Feet (how he met Timmy Howard), Drumstick Dash, American Cancer Society (his wife, Jennifer, is a survivor), and Big Brothers Big Sisters The unfortunate injury he's dealing with right now heading into the NYC Marathon in November How we used to suck at training for races Our virtual race experiences - “The Jim-athon” A health scare he had at the Indy Mini in 2015 The Ragnar events he's done - 7 of them! And his team won their age group one year after another team admitted to cheating Donate to Jim's NYC Fundraiser

Making a Scene Presents an Interview with Jim Patton and Sherry BrokusOver the first two years of the pandemic, Patton joined his longtime producer Ron Flynt in Jumping Dog Studio to record twenty songs they later narrowed to the eleven (plus a coda) on the album. Patton's new songs, while not directly addressing the pandemic, explore relevant themes of loneliness and dreams gone bad, and plans gone wrong, and how hard it is for two people to get along even when they love each other and have each other's best interest at heart.

Making a Scene Presents an interview with Jim Patton and Sheri BrokusBerkalin Records is pleased to announce the Summer 2022 release of "Going the Distance" from Austin's folk-rock duo Jim Patton & Sherry Brokus. Over the first two years of the pandemic, Patton joined his longtime producer Ron Flynt in Jumping Dog Studio to record twenty songs they later narrowed to the eleven (plus a coda) on the album. Patton's new songs, while not directly addressing the pandemic, explore relevant themes of loneliness and dreams gone bad, and plans gone wrong, and how hard it is for two people to get along even when they love each other and have each other's best interest at heart.
In today's episode, we sit down and speak with Dr. Jim Patton of Vanderbilt University. Dr. Patton has been researching how certain retinal stem-cells in zebrafish are able to regenerate and repair themselves after being damaged. If this ability can be applied to humans, it could prove to offer eye-saving treatment for many and is an exciting look into the future of optical regeneration and eye care.
What is Worship? I mean, really? What is it really? Is it something that we only do on Sunday? Is it just me singing to God? What does worship actually look like? This week we will be addressing the importance of true worship, and why it might be necessary to redefine the nature of our association with the word. Are you a true worshiper? Jim Patton is the guest this week, and the song of the week is called "The Way It's Always Been" off of Jim and Dee Patton's album Homesteading. Jim Pattron has given us the rights to distribute his notes on the topic. You can find those at our Facebook page @ThePTPodcast.

Recorded live at the National Celtic Festival in Victoria, Australia. Maggie Carty joins us for a few tunes and a chat about being immersed in the music all her life, custodianship, and the musicians that made the biggest impact on her playing. The songs and tunes performed are as follows: The Moving Bogs/Sydney Bogs (please correct me if this is wrong) Lough Erne Shore The Nightingale The Mist Covered Mountains/The Gallowglass Jig Stór Mo Chroí ... So it won't be a surprise to anybody who's listened to a few episodes already that my first acquaintance with Lough Erne Shore, which Maggie Kate sings in Episode 5 of The Blarney Pilgrims Podcast, was via the Paul Brady and Andy Irvine Purple Album...worth a listen. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-UiBO1MT65g And here is a great song Maggie performs with John Carty (her dad) and Francis Gaffney: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rzLKI9B67-M The Mist Covered Mountains, which Maggie plays, got me all nostalgic for Scotland as I was listening to her. And bagpipes. So many bagpipes at the National Celtic Festival Australia Official, some of which you can hear floating on the breeze behind Maggie as she's chatting with us on a sunny Saturday morning. And which put me in mind of other sunny Saturday mornings in Stirling, Scotland, when I worked in a wine and whiskey store and would hear two competing pipers busking from either end of the same street. A very interesting phenomenon, the effects of competing bagpipe music floating on the breeze on one's psyche... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n72XebBaMeI Louis MacNeice's poem Bagpipe Music (what an accent that guy had - you'd hardly guess he was born in Carrickfergus.) Louis worked for a long time at the BBC, and is fondly remembered by Andy Irvine, who knew him from drinking in The George in London, before he (Andy) found his way to Ireland... https://www.andyirvine.com/bio/chapter1.html Maybe everything, always, eventually comes back around to...you know...Andy Irvine. Louise Mulcahy, one of the Mulcahy sisters who Maggie cites as an influence: https://www.facebook.com/louise.mulcahy.330/ And a fascinating clip of (I think) Bryan Rooney - the Godfather: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EopvuL9T8W4 One last note, Maggie was chatting about the London Irish music scene...I'm trying to track down an old BBC Radio 4 docco about just that, so hopefully in the next few weeks we'll be able to share it with you. Seriously - has a banjo ever sounded so good? Thank you Maggie Kate for a lovely Saturday morning. You can buy Maggie's CDs here: johncartymusic.com/music.asp (BTW, CDs are on sale for €10 with free postage to anywhere in the world for the month of July.) And you can follow her here: www.facebook.com/maggie.carty.3 www.instagram.com/maggiekatemusic/ I (Darren) would like to say a massive thank you to Jim Patton, who, after listening to the episode got in contact with me via Facebook to let me know some more info about Maggie's banjo. So, for those of you interested in such things, here are the deets. It is a Jim Patton Banjo. The tone ring is made from 3/8" square brass tube rolled to fit the rim. And the wood is American black walnut. It's a beautiful banjo! You can contact Jim here: https://www.jpbanjos.co.uk/ And you can follow him here: https://www.facebook.com/jim.patton.946 Thanks again to Una McAlinden for having us at the National Celtic Festival and to everyone that came along to watch and support. Cam Janssen, Hanna Yates, and Dave Rapp III react to Jordan Binnnington's hilarious interview question. They dissect the struggling powerplay of the St. Louis Blues. Also, they get expert insight from Jim Patton on the Kentucky Derby.
Dr. Jim Patton from the UT Austin Department of Special Education tells us how a Universal Design for Learning approach leads him to leverage teaching strategies that can accommodate the special needs of some students, but these same strategies can be useful to other learners. Using specific examples taken from his large-format Applied Learning and Development course, Dr. Patton groups these techniques into three categories - access, expression, and engagement. Episode 8: Elliott spends some time with one of the most caring, thoughtful, and encouraging magicians, Paul Wilson! There's so much greatness in this episode, and it's certainly a touching one. I remember seeing the Beatles' movie, Help! when I was a kid. Love the lyrics, which are so brilliant: (Help) I need somebody (Help) Not just anybody (Help) You know I need someone (Help) When I was younger, so much younger than today I never needed anybody's help in any way But now these days are gone I'm not so self assured Now I find I've changed my mind I've opened up the doors Help me if you can, I'm feeling down And I do appreciate you being 'round Help me get my feet back on the ground Won't you please, please help me I can almost hear the strains of this song on the phone when prospects call me to ask, sometimes convolutedly, for help ("I really don't need help, but if I did, what could you do for me?"). Where I see businesses get into trouble is knowing when to ask for information and when to pay for it. According to the SBA, businesses fail for several reasons, chief of which are lack of planning, capital and other resources. In this biz environment, operating without the key information needed is almost criminal, given the massive amounts of information available on the Net. Michael Gerber, author of the The E-Myth Revisited, spoke of "working on your business, not in it," staying out of the tactical weeds and into the strategic mission and vision. To do this, Gerber spoke of the importance of creating systems that tied directly into those strategic aims. Burning daylight poring over website after website, looking for information defies our ability to be strategic and our ability to get the most out of our time. The Wild Hunt for information, particularly when you need it to be right and you need it right now, can be the greatest of all cul de sacs. This week, we hear from Jim Patton of J Patton Consulting and his Prepaid Legal affiliation. What Jim offers is a business service that, for a monthly fee, allows members to pose real-life problems to legal, accounting and other professionals and get real life answers. One example he gave was the business owner who needed to let an employee go. That owner posted the question in the service and got back a checklist for terminations that allowed him to stay fair, square and legal. Be sure to grab a copy of a copy of The Dip as well. _____________ FOR MORE INFORMATION, TO JOIN THE DISCUSSION FORUM, LISTEN AGAIN OR READ SHOW NOTES Lalita Amos http://www.TotalTeamSolutions.com/podcast/podcasting.htm http://totalteam.blogspot.com 214 615 6505, 3895 for questions or comments
