BUFFALO, NY- November 13, 2024 – A new #research paper was #published in Aging (listed by MEDLINE/PubMed as "Aging (Albany NY)" and "Aging-US" by Web of Science), on October 25, 2024, Volume 16, Issue 20, titled, ”Canonical ligand-dependent and non-canonical ligand-independent EphA2 signaling in the eye lens of wild-type, knockout, and aging mice.“ Researchers from the School of Optometry and Vision Science Program at Indiana University have uncovered important new insights into how the aging affects the eye lens and contributes to cataract formation, a condition impacting millions worldwide. This study focuses on the EphA2 protein, traditionally associated with cancer, which researchers have now identified as essential for maintaining the lens's clarity and function as it ages. Cataracts are the leading cause of blindness worldwide, primarily affecting older adults, yet the precise biological mechanisms behind their formation remain unclear. This research sheds light on the role of the EphA2 protein receptor in the eye lens, revealing that it operates through two distinct signaling pathways: a canonical (ligand-dependent) and a non-canonical (ligand-independent) pathway. By studying various groups of mice, including those lacking the EphA2 protein receptor and its ligand partner ephrin-A5, scientists observed how these signaling pathways change with age, affecting the organization and maturation of lens cells. Researchers Jenna L. Horner, Michael P. Vu, Jackson T. Clark, Isaiah J. Innis, and Catherine Cheng observed that EphA2's canonical signaling, which organizes lens cells, remains stable in aging lens tissue, particularly in epithelial cells. They found that the non-canonical signaling pathway—previously associated primarily with aggressive cancer cells—increases with age in normal lens cells. This increase suggests that non-canonical signaling plays a crucial role in helping lens fiber cells mature and maintain their structure over time. “Here, we report that canonical ligand-mediated EphA2 activation is restricted to the lens epithelial cells and show the first evidence of physiological non-canonical EphA2 activity in a normal tissue.” This understanding could lead to new therapies targeting EphA2 to delay or prevent cataracts. In conclusion, this study represents a significant advance in understanding the cellular mechanisms behind lens aging and cataract development, potentially paving the way for new non-surgical cataract treatments. Zinc is the 3rd most important nutrient and is involved with over 200 different enzymes. Zinc allows you to make glutathione, the most powerful antioxidant. It's highly concentrated in the prostate and helps make sperm and testosterone. Zinc is in the part of the pancreas that produces insulin, and it is also in the hippocampus, the part of the brain responsible for memory. Zinc is vital for wound healing, decreasing gastritis, generating collagen, and hair regrowth. Here are 7 common zinc deficiency symptoms: 1. Night blindness 2. Low testosterone, estrogen, or progesterone 3. Diarrhea 4. Acne 5. Alopecia 6. Cataracts 7. Thymus gland shrinkage The thymus is the most important immune gland. It makes the T cells that control and coordinate every aspect of your immune system. T cells help to kill infection and cancer and help prevent autoimmune diseases. Professor Greg Fahy has conducted fascinating research about the anti-aging possibilities that can occur when you restore the thymus gland. If you can regenerate the thymus gland, you may be able to increase your lifespan by decreasing the risk of cancer and infections. In a rat study, a thymus from a younger rat was transplanted into an older rat. The rat experienced an increased lifespan and regrowth of the thymus. Rats given zinc had fully recovered thymus function and improved immune function. Zinc deficiency can be caused by the following: • Aging • Gut issues • Vegan/vegetarian diets • Alcohol • Sugar • Chronic stress • Medications When you take zinc, you should also take copper. Thymus extract can also be beneficial to the thymus gland. DATA: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/8582782/ https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/8582786/

Which key foods, vitamins, and daily habits preserve vision and prevent macular degeneration as we age? There is more to the color of the foods that we eat than meets the eye, reveals ophthalmologist Dr. Rani Banik. For example, the macula at the back of the eye draws its yellow color from the carotenoids, lutein, and zeaxanthin in foods like bell peppers and mangos, she says. We need the macula to make out the details of objects: “It's responsible for our highest resolution vision,” says Banik, who emphasizes nutrition in preventing eye conditions like cataracts, glaucoma, and macular degeneration. It's the lutein and zeaxanthin in egg yolk, she adds, that gives the food its distinctive orangy-yellow color and which make it a source of eye health. “Some of the common summer fruits such as peaches, nectarines—[these] bright yellow, orange ... fruits are very rich in these ocular pigments.” Banik joins Vital Signs with Brendon Fallon to reveal how macular degeneration and other hallmarks of eye damage and aging can be prevented and, in some cases, improved through certain nutrients and living habits. Banik talks about a patient with a family history of blindness, who had just been diagnosed with intermediate-stage macular degeneration. What results did he see from following her “macular-degeneration diet” and making certain lifestyle changes? Which foods and nutrients best preserve eye health? Which type of sunglasses best protect against UV-ray damage to the eyes? We probe these and other aspects of natural eye health on Vital Signs with Brendon Fallon. Banik is a neuro-ophthalmologist and practitioner of functional medicine, which aims at treating the root cause of disease, often through diet and lifestyle change. ⭕️ Watch in-depth videos based on Truth & Tradition at Epoch TV
Cataracts are the leading cause of blindness worldwide – 50% of the world's blindness is a result of cataracts. For 200 years, treatment of the condition involved removing the lens of the eye and substituting the function of that lens with a pair of thick glasses. But in 1949, Dr. Harold Ridley had another idea. What if he replaced the natural lens of the eye with an artificial one? Well, let's just say the field of ophthalmology didn't see the vision. Hope you'll join us. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Cataracts are a clouding of the lens in the eye, which is normally clear. The lens helps focus light rays onto the retina, the light-sensitive layer at the back of the eye. When the lens becomes cloudy, it scatters light and prevents a clear image from reaching the retina. This can cause blurred vision, dimmed vision, and difficulty seeing colors. There are two main reasons why people get cataracts: Aging: This is the most common cause of cataracts. As we age, the proteins in the lens of the eye can break down and clump together, causing the lens to become cloudy. pen_spark Opens in a new window www.nhs.uk Aging and Cataracts Other medical conditions: Certain medical conditions, such as diabetes, can increase the risk of developing cataracts. Other factors that can contribute to cataracts include: Injury to the eye Long-term use of certain medications, such as corticosteroids Exposure to radiation Family history of cataracts If you think you or your grandpa might have cataracts, it's important to see an eye doctor for a diagnosis. Cataracts are usually treated with surgery to remove the cloudy lens and replace it with a clear artificial lens. Cataract surgery is a very common and successful procedure. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/moodkillers/message

In this episode, Ralph and Luc spotlight an environmental success story: the Montreal Protocol's role in healing the ozone layer. We draw comparisons to the pitfalls of the IPCC's COP process and try to derive a diplomatic blueprint for climate policy. We look into the science of how ozone and chlorine works in the stratosphere, the history of the activist scientists (Sherwood Roland and Mario Molina) who first sounded the alarm about CFC's destruction of the ozone layer, and the work of technocrats in devising their replacement. We also examine the geopolitical dynamics that were foundational to this planetary victory. In this podcast, we're going to take a look at a simple natural solution for cataracts. Cataracts can be described as cloudiness or opaqueness of the lens of the eye. They are the number one cause of blindness and are typically treated with surgery. Too much oxidative stress can lead to cataracts. Oxidative stress occurs when there's too much oxidation in the body and not enough antioxidants. Too much oxidation in the eye mainly stems from sugar consumption. If you have too much sugar in your blood, four main tissues are affected: the nerves, kidneys, arteries, and eyes. Sorbitol is a sugar alcohol that creates inflammation and glycation—and it tends to accumulate in the eye, creating cloudiness. Sorbitol can affect the retina of the eye and the cells that compose the myelin in your nerves. It can also increase the pressure in your eye, contributing to conditions like glaucoma. If you have cataracts, you need to change your diet and eliminate sugar. There is also another solution that may help. L-carnosine is a powerful antioxidant that works within the mitochondria and has anti-glycation and anti-aging effects. It also acts as a pH buffer. L-carnosine is an excellent option for the prevention and reversal of cataracts, but on its own, it can't penetrate the eye. N-acetylcarnosine (NAC) is a compound that allows carnosine to penetrate the eye. Research has shown promising effects of using a one percent solution of NAC for conditions like glaucoma, cataracts, and macular degeneration. Try using one to two drops of N-acetylcarnosine in each eye two to three times per day. Also, try taking NAC with zinc. Zinc is a powerful antioxidant and is important for NAC to be properly utilized in the body. Let's talk about the best remedies for cataracts and how to help prevent cataracts naturally. Cataracts are a problem with the lens of the eye—the lens becomes opaque and is difficult to see through. Glycation is one of the top causes of cataracts. Glycation is a term to describe the combining of sugar with protein or sugar with fat. The more glycation occurs in a person's lenses, the more eye problems they could experience. Glycation could be why people with diabetes have a higher risk of cataracts and another reason why a low-sugar, low-carb diet is so important. Top causes of cataracts: • Glycation • Aging • Chronic use of steroids • Chronic stress • Alcohol • Smoking • Exposure to microwaves • Junk foods • Exposure to certain chemicals • Oxidation • High-sugar diets The best natural remedies for cataracts: 1. Intermittent fasting 2. Cruciferous vegetables 3. Egg yolks 4. Selenium 5. Vitamin C 6. Vitamin E 7. Zinc 8. NAC 9. Thiamine (vitamin B1) 10. Riboflavin (vitamin B2)
