It can be made especially difficult by messages about how we 'should' move our body or even exist in our body in different seasons, or how we should & shouldn't rest. As teachers we want the folx in our room to feel comfortable and safe, right? In this episode we gently start to speak about how diet culture might be affecting our students or clients. First, we talk about shame. Shame that might get in our way when we do any anti-oppression or social justice: 'I'm going to learn about all the times I made mistakes'. I speak to navigate our shame, so that we may help our clients navigate their own. This episode is relevant to anyone who works with other people. I hate it, but inclusivity has become a bit of a buzzword, but it really shouldn't be. I talk about being inclusive, anti-diet, trauma informed and queer safe but what does that actually mean? This is a bigger conversation, but we start it in this episode. Let me know what comes to mind when you hear the word 'inclusive', and send any tangents my way: info@movewithbillie.com Sign up for my newsletter here Magical link for all things (buy me a coffee, buy a gift card, see my offers, sign up for freebies) Extra resources Email questions, guest applications, feedback & your fave food to: info@movewithbillie.com Please take a moment to like, follow and leave a review! There are many many reasons that I'd never comment on someone's body size, let alone compliment weight-loss. A lot of them are because I'm against diet-culture's existence, but those aren't the only reasons. Listen to find out why, or send this episode to someone who might need to hear it. Inspired by Shannon Crow, I turned last weeks newsletter into a podcast episode, for the first time (and maybe last time?). Last week I wrote a newsletter just bluntly talking about how I've been feeling, that it's been a little hard to go about regular life, run a business and know what to write in a newsletter with everything going on in my life, and in Gaza. So today we are talking about just that. Anxiety, depression and trauma are things that I've lived with for a really long time. In this episode I talk about things that I do when my anxiety starts to crank up higher. I'm not giving any professional or medical advice, as I'm not a therapist, I am instead speaking as a person who has lived through these things, hoping it helps validate and normalize someone else's experience. I am speaking openly about living with mental health struggles to help normalize and de-stigmatize it.
