If you walk into a restaurant and instantly scan for the chair that will hurt the least, this video is for you. That tension you feel before you even sit down, that quiet fear of, “How long can I last before my back starts throbbing?” that's not just physical. It's your nervous system stuck in protection mode. For years, I lived that same routine. Every dinner out with my family turned into a countdown timer in my head. Fifteen minutes in, my low back would start to tighten. Thirty minutes later, I'd be shifting, bracing, pretending to be “fine.” But deep down, I was afraid. I thought the chair was the problem, when really, it was my body's overprotective alarm system. In this video, I'll show you a simple exercise you can do before you sit down that teaches your body how to relax, feel safe, and sit pain-free for hours, even in the worst restaurant chairs. You'll learn how to:✅ Calm your nervous system and reduce sensitivity before sitting.✅ Teach your brain that you're safe in a seated position.✅ Rebuild tolerance so your body doesn't flare up every time you dine out. This isn't about perfect posture or magical chairs, it's about retraining your system to trust movement again. That's the foundation of my Hybrid Relief Method™, where we first reduce sensitivity, then build tolerance, and finally build resilience so you can live freely again. If you've been avoiding dinners, travel, or even family gatherings because of sitting pain, watch this video all the way through. Your body isn't broken, it's just overprotective. And you can retrain it. Enjoy! -WIlliam

In this deeply personal episode of Self-Care with Geraldine Hardy, recorded in Germany just before her journey to Thailand, Geraldine opens up about experiencing sudden lumbago — and how physical pain can be the body's way of asking us to stop, reflect, and release. Through her own story of emotional healing, yoga, meditation, and hypnotherapy, Geraldine explores how unprocessed memories, stress, and responsibility can manifest as physical blockages in the spine — and how reconnecting to our body's wisdom can create lasting transformation. You'll learn: - The emotional meaning behind lower back pain and lumbago - How fascia and energy are linked through the root and sacral chakras - Why emotional release can be the key to physical recovery - How to recognize when your body is saying “pause” - Practical tools for self-healing: meditation, yoga, magnesium, and breathwork ✨ Geraldine's message: true healing begins when we stop resisting the pain — and start listening to it.

Hey friend — here's the messy little episode: you're living in a one-bedroom with a partner who does construction and gets terrible back pain, and your seven-month pregnant sister shows up after a big fight with her husband asking to crash and sleep in your bed. Your boyfriend said he couldn't give it up, you apologized to avoid a fight, and later you found your sister crying in the bathroom. Cue Mom calling and being furious. Ugh. I totally see both sides: your sister is emotional, pregnant, and needed space, and that's precious, but your partner's need for real sleep because of his physical job is also a legit, health-related boundary. This isn't just about feelings — it's about a shared home and agreed-upon boundaries, plus the practical reality of one real bed and a couch that's not ideal every night. If it were me, I'd start by asking how serious the fight was — if your sister left because she felt unsafe, give her the bed and your full support. If it was a heated argument and she just needed space, a one-night compromise (you on the couch, sister and partner in bed) or a clear, empathetic conversation about limits is reasonable. Neither kindness nor boundaries have to cancel each other out.

If you're still doing knee-hugs, Child's Pose and “cat-camel” while being told to avoid squats/hinges… that's why you're stuck. Today we show how to turn rehab into something that actually works: control the spine first, practise real-life patterns (squat = chair-stand, hip hinge = pick-up), and then build capacity with sensible loading. We also demo towel decompression vs cobra (elongation/traction beats extension-compression), explain why sitting can add ~40–90% lumbar load, and how to stop relying on relief that feels good but slows healing. Post-partum & post-microdiscectomy notes included, plus why the Roman chair is a gimmick for most backs.Start here → https://backinshapeprogram.com/start/Highlights:

You should definitely go back and listen to our first episode with him before you dive into this one. We brought Brian back to ask a variety of follow up questions, some our own and some provided by you guys in your responses to the initial episode. The most frequent piece of feedback we got was about his interpretation on MRIs. We get to that a little later in the episode, so stick with it.Other topics for this discussion include the psychology of recovering from injury, the complexity of the relationship between pain and injury, and for our video viewers he even breaks out some spine models to demonstrate a few of the concepts he discusses. He mentions Michael Shacklock and neurodynamics a few times, if you want to learn more about that check out their page. He also mentions a few videos they're making about MRI interpretation, here are links to the first two:"MRI Case Study: Why They Matter and Why They Don't Tell the Whole Story""Does Your MRI Tell the Whole Story?"Brian also asked that we include the following clarification in response to his exchange with Alex about Elon Musk's role in SpaceX engineering (this is copied directly from Brian's email): "Elon Musk actually does design rockets and create technology for various aspects of rocket science and aerospace advancement. He oversees engineering and development projects for SpaceX yet only holds bachelor degrees in both economics and engineering from the University of Pennsylvania. He began (but did not complete) a PhD program at Stanford before launching PayPal etc, he lasted 2 days in the program. He credits mentors and reading many books and studies, as have I with MRi's. "
Send us a textThis week I'm doing a littlew Q&A as it's been a while.First I talk about how diastasis recti surgery (tummy tuck) can help ease post-partum back pain. How does it work? What the issue is, Who might need it etc. etc.Secondly I go over an email I had from a listener, and HPNB member, who wanted to cancel the program because it's not right for her. MY advice is always the same in this case; Cancel it! Don't pay a penny for something that you can't stick to :)And finally I go over this study , sent to me in August, which raises some interesting points about how "Fear of Childbirth" can negatively impact the whole labour process, and what we should do about it.As always; HPNB still only has 5 billing cycles. So this means that you not only get 3 months FREE access, no obligation! BUT, if you decide you want to do the rest of the program, after only 5 months of paying $10/£8 a month you now get FREE LIFE TIME ACCESS! Matt and Allie are back to discuss this month's clinical corner article! In this case presentation- you'll hear about a patient who experienced consistent gluteal pain even after seeing his PCP, PA and PT. With more and more time passing and worsening symptoms, and a palpable mass finding by the PT, the patient was urged to get an MRI. This uncovered that the mass was identified as advanced-stage non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. Luckily, after treatment and a couple months of PT, the patient resumed walking, golfing, etc with no pain and in complete remission! This article highlights the importance of hands-on PT, self advocacy, and early intervention.Read the article here: https://www.jospt.org/doi/10.2519/josptcases.2025.0126https://www.jospt.org/doi/10.2519/josptcases.2025.0126Did you know that you don't need a doctor's prescription to receive physical therapy? Is Your Chiropractic Care Plan a Sales Pitch or a Health Strategy? Understanding the Difference | The Prime Podcast Have you ever left a doctor's office with a recommended care plan and felt a wave of skepticism? It's a common experience, especially in chiropractic, where the purpose behind a structured plan is one of the most misunderstood aspects of care. Patients often turn to social media forums, asking friends, "Does this seem right?" creating a massive gray area filled with confusion and misinformation. In Episode 343 of The Prime Podcast, Dr. Skip and Dr. Julie Wies pull back the curtain on this "taboo" topic. They explore why the concept of a care plan is so divisive and why clear communication between a doctor and a patient is the most critical factor for a successful health outcome. This episode is an essential guide for any patient who wants to feel empowered and confident in their healthcare decisions. The doctors break down the two fundamental philosophies of care you'll encounter: Symptomatic Care: The reactive, "quick fix" approach. This is for when you just want immediate pain relief for a headache or back pain and have no long-term goals. Vitalistic Care: The proactive, wellness-focused approach. This is for patients who want to address the root cause of their issues, prevent them from recurring, and achieve a higher standard of overall health. Using a brilliant "fruit salad vs. veggie salad" analogy, Dr. Skip and Dr. Julie illustrate what happens when a patient's expectations don't align with a doctor's standard of care. They discuss why a chiropractor who is truly invested in your long-term wellness will always recommend a plan, and why "just come in when it hurts" can lead to a cycle of recurring problems and the false belief that "chiropractic didn't work." Furthermore, they tackle the thorny issue of insurance, explaining why the best chiropractors are often out-of-network and why that should be seen as a green flag indicating a commitment to wellness over "sick care." KEY TAKEAWAYS Communication is Key: A successful healthcare experience depends on the patient and doctor being on the same page with their goals and expectations before care begins. Vitalistic vs. Symptomatic: Understand which philosophy your chiropractor follows. Are they focused on proactive wellness and fixing the root cause (vitalistic), or just reactive pain relief (symptomatic)? A Care Plan is a Standard of Care: A structured care plan is not a sales pitch; it is a doctor's professional recommendation based on your history, exam, and health goals to achieve lasting results. Don't Ask the Internet, Ask Your Doctor: If you have questions about your care plan, the most qualified person to answer them is the doctor who created it based on your specific case. Insurance Doesn't Dictate Health: The best healthcare providers often operate outside of insurance networks because they refuse to let a third party dictate a standard of care that is focused on sickness, not wellness.
Did you know that 1.6 million spinal surgeries happen every year in America – but many could potentially be prevented? In this episode, Dr. Tom and Marissa Nixon tackle one of the most common questions they receive: "My loved one has been told they need neck or back surgery – what should I tell them?" Drawing from a decade of holistic health practice, they break down the real reasons behind disc bulges, stenosis, and degenerative disc disease, while offering hope and practical direction for those facing spinal surgery recommendations. This isn't anti-surgery – it's about understanding your options and addressing root causes before invasive procedures become necessary.Key Takeaways:• Ask "Why" Eight Different Ways – Don't accept "old age" or "genetics" as the root cause of your disc problems. Keep asking why until you get to the structural issue: bones that have moved the wrong way and need to be corrected.• Structure Determines Function – Just like a house with a shifted foundation, when your spine loses its proper structure and curves, it creates pressure that leads to disc bulges, stenosis, and pain over time.• Corrective Chiropractic Offers Hope – Look for chiropractors who take before-and-after X-rays and focus on restoring spinal structure through adjustments, decompression, and targeted exercises rather than just temporary pain relief.Remember: Your body was created to heal – sometimes it just needs the right structural support to do what it does best.Recommended Tools & Support: Get professional-grade supplements and wellness tools we trust: Fullscript Store – Twin City Health Explore our FREE protocols, guides, and courses: Visit Our Stan Store Want 1:1 Functional Medicine coaching? Ever wondered if X-rays are really necessary before a chiropractic adjustment? Or have you been told they're an optional, skippable step? In this vital episode of The Prime Podcast, Dr. Skip and Dr. Julie Wies tackle the growing misconception around spinal imaging and explain why skipping this step could put your health at risk. Many people seek chiropractic care for back pain, neck pain, or general wellness, but not all understand the importance of a proper diagnosis. An adjustment without a clear picture of your spinal health is just guesswork. Drs. Skip and Julie reveal what a trained chiropractor can see on an X-ray—from hidden fractures and dangerous pathologies to congenital abnormalities that could make a standard adjustment harmful. Discover why the X-ray and the chiropractic profession were born in the very same year and how this foundational tool is a non-negotiable "standard of care" for ensuring patient safety, achieving better results, and truly understanding the root cause of your health concerns. Don't let a practitioner gamble with your spine. Learn how to advocate for the highest standard of care. In this episode, you will learn: Why spinal X-rays are a foundational standard of care in chiropractic, not an upsell. The difference between "guessing" and "knowing" when it comes to your chiropractic adjustment. Real-life examples of serious conditions (cancer, aneurysms, hidden fractures) that were discovered through routine spinal imaging. A compelling case study of how an X-ray solved the mystery of a teenager's chronic migraines. The truth about radiation exposure from X-rays versus everyday activities like flying. What to do if your chiropractor has never taken an X-ray and how to find a practitioner who prioritizes your safety. My guest, PJ Glassey discusses the emotional side of back pain and how a condition known as Tension Myositis Syndrome (TMS) is characterized by chronic pain, often in the back, neck, shoulders, and hips, and is caused by the brain's response to repressed negative emotions and stress. About Mr. Glassey: PJ started personal training in 1987 and successfully grew his business over the following 11 years, training clients in their homes and at local area gyms. With the help of these clients as test subjects, and armed with his degree in Exercise Science, PJ invented his “multi-protocol” concept and refined it through 1998, when he founded the X Gym.
