The weekly Sunday morning message by Pastor Paul Edwards from Redeemer Church of Waterford, Michigan.

Who has the better claim on St. Patrick, Catholics or Protestants? Given that St. Patrick was NOT canonized by the Roman Catholic Church, this message examines the life and theology of Patrick to make the case that the man we have come to celebrate on March 17 is not the man as he actually was in history. He was in actuality the "proto" Protestant.

What are the heart and spirit as the Bible defines them? The heart is the mind, the control center of my entire being. The spirit is the will, the thing that causes me to do that which the mind dictates, to fulfill the desires of the flesh and of the mind that has set us in opposition to God.Man does not need to be improved. He does not need to be reformed. He does not need to be made better.Man needs to be made new. The whole of his being must be remade. The Bible calls this new birth, regeneration, a new creation.

What the Apostle Paul is concerned to demonstrate in Ephesians 5:3-7 is that vileness, uncleanness, or any sordid behavior has no place in the life of the Christian at all. The person who behaves in the way which Paul describes as a pattern of his or her life has no inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.

The gospel is bad news before it is good news. The bad news is we are defiled, unclean, and polluted because we have profaned God's holy name by our own way and our own doings. Is there any hope that we can be made clean? Yes! The very holy God whose name we have profaned has himself made a way for our cleansing. But the cleansing he offers is not merely a sprinkling of water. It is nothing less than the sacrifice of our entire being to Him.

Revelation 3:20 is one of the most familiar verses in all of the Bible, often used as an evangelism text purporting to portray Christ knocking at the door of an unbelieving sinner's heart. While that may be a legitimate interpretation of the text, it is more than likely that the door Jesus is knocking on is the door to the church, and it isn't the sinner He is seeking, but dinner with His own people.

The gospel is not a remediation program. It is not a program of moral reform. The gospel is nothing less than a radical transformation of the entire being through the sovereign work of regeneration by the Holy Spirit. And what is the evidence that this regeneration has taken place? The Lord God has sanctified me in such a way that I am a man in Christ - a completely new creation - showing forth the praises of Him who called me out of darkness into his marvelous light.

Because of the indictment of "lukewarmness" which the Lord Jesus passes upon the Church at Laodicea, we imagine them in dystopia terms. Yet the reality is, the ancient city of Laodicea was one of the wealthiest in all of the Roman Empire. The Church at Laodicea had acquiesced to this superiority complex, itself proclaiming that it was "rich, increased with goods, in need of nothing," an attitude which became the leading symptom of its spiritual torpor. The prescription that Jesus offers to this church that has everything is to buy from him what it isn't even aware it is lacking.

The message of the Bible is that God in eternal counsel has devised a plan to reconcile his fallen creatures to himself. This plan is the gospel, and it is on every page of holy Scripture. All of the essential elements of the gospel are contained in Ezekiel 36:16-38. God is holy, Because God is holy, he hates sin. And because God hates sin, he punishes sin. What does it look like for God to pour his fury upon sinners?

Click "View Item" to listen.Jesus's indictment of the Church at Laodicea was, "You are neither cold nor hot." The condition of coldness is not deadness, but refreshment. The state of hotness is fervency of spirit in serving God and others. This church was neither. It was lukewarm, which is not a mixture of cold and hot, but rather a state separate from cold and hot, in a class of its own. It is a state of torpor, listlessness, lethargy, indifference. What are the symptoms of this lukewarm spiritual condition? The answer is in Revelation 3:17, which we consider in this sermon.

What is the message of the Bible? The word of the Lord that came to the prophet Ezekiel in Ezekiel 36:16-38 is the message of the whole Bible in miniature. You will find this message either implicitly or explicitly on every page of the Bible. What is it? The message of the Bible is the revelation of God to man, and the revelation of God's eternal plan to rescue man from his sin and misery. In a word, the message of the Bible is the gospel.

What does Jesus mean when he says, "I would that you were either cold or hot"?He most definitely is not using "cold" as a negative category and "hot" as a positive category and "lukewarm" as a mixture of the two.Jesus wants us to be cold or hot. But what does that mean?

This is the first in a series of messages titled "The Gospel According to Ezekiel: Salvation by Grace in Ezekiel 36."From the beginning of human history, two voices have competed for the minds, hearts, and wills of human beings: the voice of God in Genesis 1:3 "And God said..."the voice of the Devil in Genesis 3:1 "Yea, hath God said...?"The way you view the world depends entirely upon which of these two voices have your attention and allegiance.

We do not, we cannot, we must not judge the success or failure of a church by its size. Spiritually unhealthy churches come in all sizes, but the overwhelming argument from Scripture is that it is the small church that is most conducive to vibrant spiritual community.

The world pays a great deal of attention to the passing of one year into the next. It becomes the occasion for gatherings and celebrations, the dropping of a ball, the blowing of party favors. We do all of this because we have it in our minds that the change from an old year to a new year offers us hope that our lives and our world will somehow be different in the new year than they were in the old year. This "hope" masks nothing more than a fatal optimism. In reality the only thing that has changed is the date. What's new? And where do we find the ultimate satisfaction in what is new?

The story of the people of God is marked by periods of rebellion against God, then exile from God, and then return to God.In chapters 9 and 10 of Isaiah, God is angry with His people. This anger has come in four waves, with each wave ending with the refrain, "For all this His anger is not turned away."But in Isaiah 12, the prophet gives the people of God hope for a coming day when God will once again reconcile his people to himself. Isaiah 12 is a hymn of praise and thanksgiving in three stanzas with the beautiful refrain:"Though you were angry with me, your anger is turned away, and you comforted me."

The Shoot is an insignificant twig which Isaiah prophesies will cut down the mighty trees of the woods - the nations of the world who are in rebellion against God and and oppress the people of God.How will we recognize this insignificant twig since the world considers him unworthy of their attention? Isaiah says we will recognize him by his righteousness and faithfulness. But what does that mean?

Our text tells us that "Jesus grew in wisdom, and in stature, and in favor with God and man."Since Jesus is God in human flesh, why would it be said of him that he "grew in wisdom and favor with God?"What are the means which God used in the life of Jesus to cause him to grow in wisdom and favor with God?

In a blessing that is also a prophecy, Balaam sees, in the latter days, "a Star coming out of Jacob" who will "crush the foreheads" of Moab. It is clear that this Star is a majestic ruler, but not an ordinary majestic ruler.Balaam sees the One who presently exists (because He has always existed) but is not presently present.

We consider three vignettes from Mary's relationship with Jesus as described by Luke to discover lessons for developing holiness in our own lives.

We learn from Jacob's blessing on Judah in Genesis 49 that the seed of the Woman in Genesis 3:15 is a royal seed. Underlying the conflict between nations, between husbands and wives, between employer and employees is the question: "Who will rule?"God's royal Scepter belongs to only one individual - Shiloh - who has routed the Serpent and alone has the right to reign.

What is God doing in Joseph? What is God making him to be?For the sake of His Son, Jesus, God is making Joseph "a walking, living, breathing model of what it means to live as a friend of God."Part One in the 2025 Family Advent Sermon Series.

The first half of Genesis 3:15 tells us why there is trouble, and turmoil, and despair in the world. The second half of Genesis 3:15 is the first gospel promise that God has a plan to do something about the way the world is and to restore it to how He meant it to be.The story of history and of the Bible is the story of two seeds in conflict.

Those who have been regenerated by God's Spirit have a new identity: they are dead in Christ and alive in Christ. They also have a new purpose: they live by faith and they live by love.

Who are the 144,000 in Revelation 7? They are the complete number of the elect known only to God (7:1-8), and the "great multitude, which no man could number" (7:9-17) who have been sealed with their Father's name in their foreheads, washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb, and "come out of great tribulation" - a tribulation which has been oppressing them for the last 2,000 years. But will only 144,000 ultimately be saved?

On this All Saints' Day we consider together what the activity and the realities with which our loved ones in heaven our preoccupied.

What are the misconceptions people have about Heaven and Hell verses the realities? What do Heaven and Hell reveal about the character of God?

Why do you love God? Many make the mistake of believing that it is their own love for God that causes Him to love them. But something closer to the opposite is actually the case: it is God's love for you that causes you to love him."We love Him because He first loved us."WHEN did God first love us? The answer lies in the meaning of "foreknown" in Romans 8:29.

What are the evidences that I have truly been born again or regenerated by the work of the Holy Spirit? In reading of Hebrews 6, some make the assumption that verses 4 and 5 are evidences of regeneration when in reality those verses merely point to EXPERIENCES any person - even unbelieving people - can have when under the influence of the gospel. The EVIDENCES of regeneration are actually in verses 9 - 12.

What is your greatest personal need? A cure? A financial windfall? Reconciliation of a broken relationship? None of these, and hundreds of other needs, are not our greatest personal need.Your greatest need is a personal confrontation with the Holy Spirit - your need for a radical transformation that makes you a new and radically different person.

A further consideration of the four characteristics of the church in the Nicene Creed:The Church is One (Unified)The Church is Holy (Unblemished)The Church is Catholic (Universal)The Church is Apostolic (Unerring)

In the first half of the third article of the Nicene Creed we affirm WHO the Holy Spirit is - "the Lord and Giver of life who proceeds from the Father and the Son." In the second half of the third article we affirm WHERE the central place of the activity of the Holy Spirit is: in "one holy catholic apostolic church."The Creed affirms four vital characteristics that define every true assembly of God's redeemed people: Unified, Unblemished, Universal, Unerring.

Most Christians do not have a biblical understanding of who the Holy Spirit is.According to Ligonier's 2025 State of Theology Survey, 53% of self-described evangelicals believe the Holy Spirit is "a force." This is not biblical. The Holy Spirit is not a force, or a power, or a feeling. The Holy Spirit is a person whom the Nicene Creed describes as "Lord, and giver of life."

In this message Pastor Paul offers biblical illustrations of how God has used the evil intentions and actions of rebellious human beings to fulfill the eternal counsel of His own will to bring all things together under the Lordship of Jesus Christ.

The church in every generation has witnessed the silencing of bold gospel voices in death, yet the eternal God and His eternal word endures. In the last two months God has called to his nearer presence men who have been instruments in His hand for the bold proclamation of His truth: John MacArthur, James Dobson, Charlie Kirk, Voddie Baucham."Moses my servant is dead." What now? We mourn. We remember. We are resolute.

One of the most neglected aspects of the atoning work of Christ is his ascension into heaven. While we rightly give our attention to his resurrection, just as important to our salvation is his ascension and the work that he is doing even now in his session for us at his Father's right hand.

The Bible says that when God's people sing, they proclaim, they teach, they encourage. Singing in worship isn't about me and my preferences. It's about the communication of God's word and His glory.

Anger. Rage. Revenge. All natural human responses to evil. But the Psalmist David offers followers of Jesus a better way.

Dr. Ottavio Palombaro is the author of "From Rome to Reformed: The Confessions of an Italian Ex-Catholic."

There are numberless gifts purchased for the believer by the blood of Christ which are bestowed upon us in the resurrection of the Lord Jesus from the dead. In this message we consider just three of those gifts: satisfaction, sanctification, and surety.

The central theme of apostolic preaching is the resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ from the dead because the central tenet of the Christian faith is the resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ from the dead.

What is the unity of the Spirit and what are the dispositions necessary to maintain it?

When the creed rightly declares that our Lord was "crucified for us under Pontius Pilate, suffered, and was buried," we must be careful to understand that the suffering of our Savior is not limited to what he endured for us on the cross.

Though Mary the virgin was the willing human instrument, the conception of the eternal, only-begotten Son in her womb so that He might be made flesh is due only and entirely to the work of the Trinity.

The most important thing about heaven is that the Lord Jesus Christ is there at the right hand of His Father. This truth only emphasizes the great grace displayed by the Son of God who willing left the glory of heaven to come to earth to save His people.

In the Nicene Creed, the phrase "Who for us men and for our salvation came down from heaven" turns our attention from the person of Christ in relation to His Father as the eternal Son of God, to the work of Christ in relation to us as the Lord Jesus Christ - the eternal Son made flesh. This work of Christ for us takes place in two states of His incarnation in human flesh: His Humiliation and His Exaltation. What does it mean that this work is "for us"?
