In this sobering and soul-searching message, Pastor Karl dives deep into Matthew 5:17–48, where Jesus declares that He came not to abolish the Law but to fulfill it—and then raises the bar of righteousness far beyond anything the scribes and Pharisees ever imagined.Through six piercing examples—anger that murders the heart, lust that commits adultery in the mind, casual divorce, manipulative oaths, retaliation, and hatred disguised as justice—Jesus exposes the truth we all try to avoid: outward obedience is never enough. God judges the heart. Every single one of us stands guilty before His perfect standard.Yet the bad news is meant to drive us to the best news. Pastor Karl powerfully unpacks how Jesus' command in verse 48—“You therefore must be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect”—is not a cruel impossible demand, but the very reason the Son of God came. We cannot achieve the righteousness God requires, so God freely gives it to us through faith in Christ. Jesus took our unrighteousness and imputes His perfect righteousness to all who repent and trust Him.A hard-hitting, heart-exposing sermon that leaves no room for self-righteousness, but ends with the liberating joy of the gospel: guilty sinners can be clothed in the very righteousness of God and stand before Him as if we had never sinned. This week, we are looking at Ephesians 1:1-3. Today, we ask: what does it mean to have every spiritual blessing?
Message by Pastor Doug Bunnell, recorded live October 5, 2025 at First Presbyterian Church of Bellingham. Scripture read by Lynn Schuman.Every Spiritual Blessing We have been blessed with every spiritual blessing, live Kingdom abundance. According to verse 3, what has God blessed us with, and where? How often is the phrase “in Christ” or “in Him” used in this passage? What might be its significance? How does knowing you are “chosen, adopted, and redeemed” affect your identity and daily life?In what areas of life do you need to trust more fully in the Holy Spirit as your guarantee? What spiritual blessings do you sometimes overlook or take for granted? How might this passage shape your prayers or worship? Ephesians 1:3-14 1 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places, 4 just as he chose us in Christ before the foundation of the world to be holy and blameless before him in love. 5 He destined us for adoption as his children through Jesus Christ, according to the good pleasure of his will, 6 to the praise of his glorious grace that he freely bestowed on us in the Beloved. 7 In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace 8 that he lavished on us. With all wisdom and insight 9 he has made known to us the mystery of his will, according to his good pleasure that he set forth in Christ, 10 as a plan for the fullness of time, to gather up all things in him, things in heaven and things on earth. 11 In Christ we have also obtained an inheritance, having been destined according to the purpose of him who accomplishes all things according to his counsel and will, 12 so that we, who were the first to set our hope on Christ, might live for the praise of his glory. 13 In him you also, when you had heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and had believed in him, were marked with the seal of the promised Holy Spirit; 14 this is the pledge of our inheritance toward redemption as God's own people, to the praise of his glory.
This is the last of five studies on the topic Unstoppable Divine Blessings. Our primary focus is in the letter to the Ephesians 1:3-14 which begins, Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places. These blessings in Christ are revealed to have been planned before the foundation of the world and are many. These blessings are in Christ bring us to the place of seeking His kingdom over any other and cause us to praise Him for His glorious grace. The study concludes by highlighting the seven beatitudes contained in the Revelation of St John the Divine. The final beatitude describes those who have had their robes washed in the blood of the Lamb as blessed with the right to the tree of life and to enter the city by the gates where we joyful worship our triune God.
Through His grace, God gives us the ability to be settled with peace, and He gives us this new identity to be set apart to Him.
Christian Praise is I. Trinitarian. II. Grateful. III. Father-Focused. IV. Christ-Centered. V. Spirit-Appreciative

Ephesians, God's Masterpiece - Week 3
Proverbs 10:22 reminds us that being rich goes beyond money. God's blessing makes us rich in every area - spiritually, emotionally, and physically. The blessing is a powerful spiritual force, like a tornado or an ocean, capable of creating, transforming, and elevating lives. It doesn't bring sorrow, even when the process involves pain.Having a strong awareness of your covenant with God positions you for victory. When you move in the name of Jesus, you witness mighty things. Joshua 1:8 teaches that meditation transforms God's Word from mere information to deep revelation.Faith is not wishful thinking - it's confidently standing on God's promises. Christ took the curse so that we can walk in the blessing. Spiritual blessings may be unseen, but they are actively working. We have been chosen, adopted, and redeemed through Christ. We are blessed with Abraham's blessing, and by believing, the force of the blessing follows us everywhere.ABOUT THE NEWWe are a people of love and excellence who are result-oriented, spirit-led, word-rooted, prayer-driven, and kingdom-conscious. Overview We Are Blessed with Every Spiritual Blessing (1:3) We Are Saved by Gods Grace (2:8-9) We Are Heirs of Gods Promises (3:6) We Are Part of Gods Family (4:4-6) We Are Enlightened by Gods Spirit (5:8-10) We Are Empowered by Gods Armor (6:10-11) More To Consider Ephesians, like so much of Pauls writing, underscores the truth that salvation is by faith alone and not through works or human striving. The first half of the epistle (chs. 13) addresses the central doctrines of the Christian faith, while the second half of the letter (chs. 46) describes how those spiritual truths should be reflected in a Christians behavior. Some would divide the second half of the letter into two sectionsfirst the Christians conduct and then spiritual conflict with the forces of evil. Such a division highlights the familiar passage describing the spiritual armor of a Christian. Radmacher, E. D., Allen, R. B., House, H. W. (1999). Nelsons new illustrated Bible commentary (p. 1529). T. Nelson Publishers. Several years ago, two students graduated from the Chicago-Kent College of Law. The highest ranking student in the class was a blind man named Overton and, when he received his honor, he insisted that half the credit should go to his friend, Kaspryzak. They had met one another in school when the armless Mr. Kaspryzak had guided the blind Mr. Overton down a flight of stairs. This acquaintance ripened into friendship and a beautiful example of interdependence. The blind man carried the books which the armless man read aloud in their common study, and thus the individual deficiency of each was compensated for by the other. After their graduation, they planned to practice law together. Gary Inrig, Life in His Body. She had gone down in history as Americas Greatest Miser, yet when she died in 1916, Hetty Green left an estate valued at over $100 million. She ate cold oatmeal because it cost to heat it. Her son had to suffer a leg amputation, because she delayed so long in looking for a free clinic that his case became incurable. She was wealthy, yet she chose to live like a pauper. Eccentric? Certainly! Crazy? Perhapsbut nobody could prove it. She was so foolish that she hastened her own death by bringing on an attack of apoplexy while arguing about the value of drinking skimmed milk! But Hetty Green is an illustration of too many Christian believers today. They have limitless wealth at their disposal, and yet they live like paupers. It was to this kind of Christian that Paul wrote the Epistle to the Ephesians. Wiersbe, W. W. (1996). The Bible exposition commentary (Vol. 2, p. 8). Victor Books.

Saturday is review day on The Daily Promise. Every Saturday, we review the promises of the week so we can allow them to go deep into our hearts and lives. Here are the promises we covered this week. Malachi 3:6 – God Never Changes. Ephesians 1:3 – I have Every Spiritual Blessing. Genesis 1:27 – I am Created in God's Image. John 7:39 – You Have the Holy Spirit in You. Psalm 103:8 – God Abounds in Commitment Love.
Today's Promise: Ephesians 1:3 You are blessed. It's a fact. God has blessed you! He has poured out every spiritual blessing on you through His love and grace. To be blessed by God is to walk in His favor. It is allowing God to bring about good things in your life. The phrase "spiritual blessings" in this promise isn't referring to the blessing we receive when we get to heaven. Instead, spiritual blessings are the blessing brought to you through the work of the Holy Spirit in your life.
Our Glorious Inheritance // 3-23-25
Paul's letter to the Ephesians reveals the radical truth that all believers—Jews and Gentiles alike—share equally in God's abundant grace and eternal inheritance. Through Christ, God has lavishly blessed us with every spiritual blessing, completely transforming our identity and purpose. As humanity finds unity in Christ, all creation itself awaits its ultimate restoration and fullness in Him.

In the message, "EVERY SPIRITUAL BLESSING," Pastor Rich Whitter reflects on Ephesians 1:1-3, setting the tone for the first Sunday of the year by focusing on the immeasurable blessings found in Christ. This passage introduces Paul's letter with a declaration of God's generosity, highlighting that believers are blessed with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places. Pastor Rich emphasizes the importance of starting the year grounded in the assurance of God's abundant grace and purpose for our lives. The message underscores how these blessings are not tied to earthly wealth or status but are eternal gifts rooted in our relationship with Christ. Pastor Rich invites us to consider the richness of being chosen, redeemed, and empowered by God to walk in His will. The phrase “every spiritual blessing” reminds us that nothing is lacking for those in Christ—we are equipped for the journey ahead through God's provision. Paul's greeting in verse 2, “Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ,” serves as a powerful reminder of the foundation of our faith: grace that saves and peace that sustains. As we embark on a new year, Pastor Rich calls us to live with gratitude, acknowledging the spiritual riches we possess and allowing them to shape our perspective, priorities, and prayers. We hope this message encourages you to step into the year with confidence in God's sufficiency, seeking to embrace His blessings and extend His grace to others as you walk in faith and purpose.
