Christian and Colby, two horror film nerds, go on a cinematic journey of grotesque proportions. Each episode finds them trudging through the proverbial swamp of extreme cinema, trying their damndest to contextualize it, and determine how much the average

Imagine Pixar's Cars and Cronenberg's Crash had a baby. TITANE. After a week of relaxation, the Dwellers are BACK with a vengeance! This week, the Dwellers were truly excited to talk about Titane, the new body horror joint by the French Auteur Juilia Decourneau! This is a shocking and truly unique film, so be sure to check it out if the conversation piques your interest! Enjoy!
This week, Colby is joined yet again by former Lil' Scaries guest (and brother!) Collin McHugh! In order to keep the Halloween spirit going despite it being November, Colby and Collin watched and discussed the very first HELLRAISER film, one that their parents absolutely would have outlawed. It's a great conversation, and one that also touches upon their...unique relationship with the holiday. And be sure to check out Collin's fantastic show, the Twelve Six Podcast! https://twelvesixpodcast.libsyn.com/
Happy Halloween, ya freaks! In order to properly celebrate the greatest of all holidays, The Dwellers decided to head out into the WILD BLUE YONDER known as...NETHERWORLD, the famous Atlanta Haunt, for the very first time! Listen to our experiences and go visit those fellow freaks at NETHERWORLD if ya wanna get spooked! https://www.fearworld.com/ Check out the link to their website!
This week, the Dwellers head over to HollyWEIRD to finish their 5 part series on David Cronenberg with his most recent film, MAPS TO THE STARS. This divisive movie led to a fun conversation and stick around to the end of the episode for our announcement of our next deep dive series! We can't wait to jump into it!
This week, the Dwellers attended a very special screening at their beloved Plaza Theater here in Atlanta. The film was MIRACLE VALLEY, by Greg Sestero, aka NOT Tommy Wiseau from THE ROOM. This film was written, directed, and starring Mr. Sestero, and the Dwellers got the chance to ask him a few questions after the screening! Also joining this episode is Randy Staat from our friends over at The Overlook Hour Podcast! Randy is a recent Atlanta resident, so definitely expect to hear him some more! Follow the link to check out their Podcast below! https://open.spotify.com/show/7EeZja13DquKBOV1180AEz?si=J52GWUBMQeSnuaEzMZQfcQ
Fan of bathhouses? Not for long! This week, the Dwellers jump right back into their five part series on David Cronenbgerg with 2007's Eastern Promises, the Viggo Mortensen-starring Russian mafia flick. This is an intense, well-acted film that the Dwellers were immensely excited to jump back into, and we think you'll enjoy it too! (Assuming you enjoy seeing a butt ass naked Viggo fighting off assassins in a bathhouse)
The Dwellers just can't quit CAGE, and this week they enter into the RAGE CAGE once more with Sion Sono's brand new film, PRISONERS OF THE GHOSTLAND, a film that has it all! Leather jumpsuits with bombs attached to the testicles, nuclear irradiated zombies, a setting called SAMURAI TOWN, and Chop-Top himself: Bill Mosely! Strap in for a wild ride and enjoy our conversation!
This week, the Dwellers are joined by photographer, designer, and friend of the podcast Chase Harris! He recommended Gregg Araki's 2004 HEAVY drama Mysterious Skin. This film is a brutal and realistic story of abuse, trauma, and a whole mess of other REALLY EXCITING AND FUN TOPICS Check out Chase on IG, Twitch, and Tumblr @megaloom https://www.twitch.tv/megaloom
HAPPY 50TH EPISODE EVERYONE!!!! What better way to celebrate than by watching a movie like David Cronenberg's 1996 car crash fetish film, CRASH? And before you ask, idiot, no it's not the same Crash that won the Best Picture Oscar back in 2004 why would you even ASK such a dumb question?? Enjoy part three of five of The Town of Cronenberg! AND WEAR YOUR GODDAMN SEATBELTS
She's baaaaaaaaaack! Brittnee Weiland returns and joins Colby for a Lil' Scary in which they watched a new psychological thriller called (unfortunately) JOHN AND THE HOLE. Refreshingly, Brittnee is NOT a horror fan so this episode is perfect for those of our listeners that don't love the gross, gory stuff that are normally reserved for main episodes. Enjoy!
BE AFRAID, BE VERY AFRAID This week, The Dwellers are back in The Town of Cronenberg with part 2 of our 5 part series on the iconic director, and they revisited his 80's classic, THE FLY. Full of goo, sex, more goo, and Jeff Goldblum, this classic monster movie mixes in all the Cronenberg weirdness he becomes known for. They were also so excited to be joined by their good friend and noted Cronenberg fan, Charlie Maynard! Enjoy! And make sure to follow Charlie on Twitter, where he consistently makes us all laugh very hard @TheTumBoy
If you saw the first Don't Breathe, you MIGHT be wondering what a sequel to such a surprisingly gross and intense little thriller might entail. The Dwellers were wondering that exact same thing, so they ventured out to the theater to FIND OUT. Is it bad? Is it unnecessary? Listen and hear their thoughts... Enjoy!
Welcome...to The Town of Cronenberg, our five part series on the body horror legend where we'll be watching a film from each of the five (!!!) decades he's been grossing out the general public. Our first film, 1979's THE BROOD, is a great introduction to the filmmaker, so listen and decide for yourself! Hope you like creepy kid monster things! Enjoy!
It is HERE. The Dwellers have been waiting for over a year for The Green Knight, David Lowery's Arthurian fantasy film starring the ever-dreamy Dev Patel! Did it live up to ALL of the hype?? Listen and find out! Enjoy!
This week, the Dwellers jump into the mind of Japanese horror manga legend, Junji Ito, with the film adaptation of one of his most spine tingling stories, Uzumaki, the bizarre tale of a small town that is haunted by SPIRALS (no, seriously!). Listen to find out if it's worth checking out! Enjoy!
After a nice, gentle (kinda) experience last week with PIG, the Dwellers jump right back into that cellar with a nasty little 90's Hong Kong film called Ebola Syndrome, from Herman Yau, who directed one of our earlier films, The Untold Story. This movie is offensive, gross, and at least a little bit entertaining. Enjoy!
Are you guys ready for the RAGE CAGE? Well, too bad, because in Michael Sarnoski's brand new film Pig, we got something more like the SAGE CAGE, and we gotta say, it took us by surprise! Enjoy! And go see Pig in a theater near you, or ELSE
Much to Colby's dismay, the Dwellers dive waist deep AGAIN into the dirty, dirty world of Harmony Korine with TRASH HUMPERS, a film shot purely on VHS cameras and devoid of much of a plot or story. Don't worry, there's LOTS of fun sounds and songs throughout (which Christian faithfully recreates during our recording)! Enjoy!!
This week, the Dwellers took the patented Fucked Up Movie Time Machine and travelled over to France in the early 90's for a nasty little film known as Man Bites Dog. After watching this admittedly great flick, it was easy to see how it influenced COUNTLESS other fantastic films. Enjoy our conversation!
This week, Colby is joined for a fantastic conversation by Alyssa Armand, the Program Director of the Atlanta Film Festival! We get some great insight into what it takes to run a film festival, as well as her personal experience with the horror genre and why she's such a big fan of it. Be sure to check out the Festival and the Atlanta Film Society and all the cool shit they're doing! AND GO SEE A MOVIE AT THE PLAZA THEATER OR THE DWELLERS WILL COME FOR YOU https://www.atlantafilmfestival.com/ https://www.atlantafilmsociety.org/ http://plazaatlanta.com/
The Dwellers made the excursion out to the THEATER (!!!) to check out the brand new, throwback horror film, Censor! It felt so amazing to have that theater experience again, popcorn and Diet Coke and all! But how did the film itself hold up? Listen and find out!
Episode Notes How strong is your stomach? Watch this week's film, 2006's Taxidermia, and FIND OUT. The Dwellers jumped right in and...let's just say ONE of the Dwellers has a strong stomach. Listen and place bets on which host can handle his squirts. This Hungarian film has some truly shocking moments, but in a sliiiiightly different way than the Dwellers were used to. Enjoy!!
This is one of our most exciting special episodes yet! We were SO excited to be joined by our new friend, Ian Deaton, a multitalented composer, musician, occasional actor, director and watcher of MANY films for an extensive and incredibly informative conversation! Ian also has been associated with VIDEODROME (our local Atlanta video rental shop) for two decades, and has the most expansive knowledge of the city of anyone we've met. This was such a fun talk, and we've been chomping at the bit to share it with you guys! And definitely check out Videodrome and the links to Ian's work!https://www.deanwellglobalmusic.com/https://www.videodromeatl.com/https://videodrome.tv/
Y'know, there are some movies out there that just get under your skin, and not in the spooky fun way, but rather in like a "why the hell am I watching this?" kinda way. Skull: The Mask, a new Shudder original film, is exactly that kind of movie. Please enjoy this very chaotic episode. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app
Is this Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls??? NOPE, this is a different kinda three-peat! This week, the dwellers watched a THIRD film by French director Alexandre Aja. Oxygen, his brand new thriller starring dreamboat Melanie Laurent, is also a Netflix original! If this was on TUBI, though, you know we would've watched it on there.BRAND LOYALTY! --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app
Time for a heavy hitter! Wes Kraven's infamous 1972 film, Last House on the Left, has influenced countless horror films through the decades so we figured it was time to give it a real watch, as neither Christian nor Colby had actually seen it all the way through. An important film, through and through, and a little nasty too. Imagine watching this in the 70's! Insane! Enjoy our conversation!
Like Fortnite? Well, you're in luck because this week the Dwellers watched the film that began the craze! Just, y'know, about twenty years ahead of it's time. 2000's Battle Royale is a well known Japanese film that has had TONS of influence (and copycats) in all kinds of different media and SPOILER ALERT: This movie still fuckin' rips! Enjoy the child death!
If you love haunted houses, escape rooms, and weird, horny nerds, then The Blackout Experiments just might be the film for you! I'm mostly kidding, as this is a very bad and boring documentary, but it was a fun flick to make fun of, so we had a good time with this conversation! Enjoy this short and sweet episode and have yourselves some laughs.
The Dwellers have ventured into new territory! The vast world of comic books is one that Colby is unapologetically obsessed with, so of course he found the Serbian Film of the comic world, Garth Ennis' Crossed. This story is legendary among comic fans for its depravity, so it made a TON of sense for the podcast! This one is a little longer than usual because we had a lot to talk about, so enjoy!
The Dwellers are BACK, baby! It's been a few weeks and we were sick of not giving you guys the fucked up content you so desperately crave, so we watched a Korean film from 2010 called Bedevilled, just for YOU. This Korean film from 2010 was new to us and since we have so much love for many films that come out of Korea, we were excited (well, as excited as we can get) to check it out! We've got plenty of new ideas coming up soon so be sure to keep listening!
Are you a fan of Lord of the Rings? A dumb question, because the answer is obviously yes. Peter Jackson, director of the trilogy, began his career as a low budget splatstick indie filmmaker, in the same vein as Sam Raimi, only a lot more gore. Meet The Feebles, his second feature film, is a bizarre, raunchy, and surprisingly funny Muppets satire in which EVERY CHARACTER IS A PUPPET. Yes, you read that right. Enjoy!
The Dwellers are finally jumping on the Lynch train!!! Well, Christian has basically been the conductor of this train for most of his adult life while Colby, on the other hand, has actively avoided most of Lynch's work. That all changes THIS EPISODE. Will Colby appreciate alllllll the very delicious-looking food in this film? Will he too start wearing a pocket protector like the e-boy protagonist, Henry? LISTEN AND FIND OUT, YA DUMMY
This week, on a very special video edition of Lil' Scaries, Colby got a chance to interview the super talented writer/director Brantly Watts! It's a fantastic conversation about The Exorcist, Brantly's film of choice, as well as the genre of horror at large! Make sure to follow the link below for some of her AWESOME short films! https://vimeo.com/brantlyjwatts Check out the video and you'll get to see Brantly's adorable dog, Merle! https://youtu.be/00FrK5Z8OgE https://vimeo.com/brantlyjwatts
This movie's got it all! Blood orgies! Hard drug use! STABBING!This week, the Dwellers hopped in a time machine and headed back to the ol' free love days of the 60's to hang with Christian's all time favorite musician, Charles Manson. 1996's The Manson Family was a wild trip that really (and surprisingly) has a lot going for it. Our pal Roger Ebert even liked it!Enjoy!
A very special thank you to our own personal Holy Trinity: Gordon Ramsey (The Father, duh), Necrostorm (The Son, I guess?), and Tubi (let's be honest, Tubi is all of em rolled up into one big fatty) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rtZ5td7CcRc&feature=youtu.be Honestly why are you even reading this, go watch the video NOW GO GO GO
Like Forest Gump? Do you also like Gummo? Well, friend, you are in luck! 1993's Australian critical hit, Bad Boy Bubby is the movie for you! A truly bizarre journey that the Dwellers surprisingly found themselves invested in, this film is a trip. Maybe you'll think so too? Enjoy!
Big fan of power tools? Well, you're in luck! The Driller Killer, the story of Tim "The Toolman" Taylor's dark spiral into murder, is a true classic of the genre. Of course, we're only kidding. This week, the Dwellers watched (and enjoyed!) Abel Ferrera's 1979 video nasty, The Driller Killer, about a tortured artist that goes on a killing spree. A surprisingly New York experience with some fun punk influences made for a fun watch!
This week, The Dwellers were joined by a great friend, horror fan, and absolute Dweller material: Michael Turner (@michaelandrewturner)! What better way to ring in the new year with a rip roarin' discussion of Takashi Miike's 2003 surreal, body-horror comedy Gozu! This is a weird one, and the Dwellers had a fantastic time discussing this truly bizarre film. And be sure to check out Christian's new musical project, Hark, by following the links below from Bandcamp (workofhark) and Immersive Atlanta! https://immersiveatlanta.com/premiere-after-a-hard-decade-of-reflection-hark-delivers-bad-news/ https://workofhark.bandcamp.com/album/from-back-then-and-afterward
Based on a true story, 1993's The Untold Story tells a story (see what I did there?) that blends together comedy, horror, beat cops, extreme violence, and still manages, despite allll of that, to work! The Dwellers had a great time with this Hong Kong film that had style and goofs for days, so enjoy!
Welcome to 2021, where everything is good and there's nothing at ALL to worry about!! To enjoy this new utopia we are all now living in, the Dwellers watched Lucky McKee's 2011 horror film, The Woman! There's an interested bit of lore surrounding Lucky McKee and his trilogy of sorts, in which The Woman is the second film. Enjoy, and we hope you're a fan of some VERY sick music ;)
A very merry Christmas from the Cellar Dwellers! We hope you're having the best Christmas, so we wanted to gift you with an early episode! That's right, folks, we watched the infamously religious extreme horror(seriously!) film by renowned shithead Mel Gibson, The Passion of the Christ! WHAT. A. MOVIE. Thanks for listening this year!! It's been a great ride so far, and we're excited to keep subjecting ourselves to this punishment for YOUR benefit!
Pascal Laugier's 2008 extreme horror classic, Martyrs, is an iconic film for our Dwellers, as it was one of the earliest examples of such cinema that they discovered. Joining them for the rewatch is Aaron Chewning (@aaronchewning), writer/comedian extraordinaire, and big time horror fan. Revisiting this movie was a pleasure, so be sure to listen and find out why! And if you ever need a good laugh, make sure to give Aaron a follow, because he's one of the funniest people we know!
John Waters, the King (Queen?) of Schlock, is a favorite for ONE of our hosts, while the other is still just getting used to the wild auteur. Waters' feature debut, Multiple Maniacs, is a very mixed bag, but one with a TON of character and style, even if it's not what many people would consider good. Enjoy!
In this extra large Lil' Scary, Colby and very special guest, Jordan Noel, a supremely talented Nashville-based director, editor and designer, discuss Jordan's pick, Lynne Ramsey's 2011 drama, We Need To Talk About Kevin. Jordan makes some CLAIMS in this episode, now can he back them up?Be sure to check out Jordan's latest film, This World Alone!https://www.thisworldalone.com/
Fuuuuuck, man. Trauma, a brutally extreme 2017 Chilean horror(?) film, was compared to one of the heaviest of hitters OF ALL TIME in A Serbian Film, so the Dwellers figured they just had to check it out. And BOY OH BOY, does it deliver some shocking moments. Enjoy, ya'll!
Sometimes a film comes along that is juuuust the right amount of messed up, combined with some truly mind bending story elements, that really hits the sweet spot for the Dwellers. Pedro Almodovar's 2011 body horror thriller, The Skin I Live In, is a wild one that made for a great conversation. Enjoy!
Every once in a while, a low budget film will come along and blow us all away with its fast paced action, fun dialogue, and great effects. Is Adam Chaplin, a 2011 Italian film directed by, written by, starring, and composed by the TRUE auteur named Emanuele De Santi, that kind of low budget film? Spoiler warning: ...not really. Enjoy!
This is one of the heavy hitters, folks. This infamous 2002 film by the French provocateur, Gaspar Noe, was one that the Dwellers had been putting off for years. How does it hold up? Is it REALLY as bad as people say? Listen and find out!
In honor of his new film released, the Dwellers jump into the works of the brave and talented Sacha Baron Cohen. While Borat and Bruno may be fairly tame by 2020 standards, these films made a LOT of people angry back when they came out, so listen and find out how they've aged! And hopefully have yourself a good laugh, which is exactly what we need in these stress filled times.
Ever wanted to see a bunch of cartoon animals smokin' weed and havin' orgies? Well, you're in the right place. The Dwellers jump into the world of animation with Fritz The Cat, Ralph Bakshi's infamous 1972 film that received a rare X rating. Does it deserve that rating? Listen and find out!
