We're revisiting our Quentin Tarantino / Paul Thomas Anderson series with two films that many would say are their respective masterpieces. After they spent the 90's being the gods of film schools everywhere, they entered the 21st century artists with something to say, each filmmaker forging seeking to forge a new path for their career. Or did they? Brian welcomes Max and Nick back to the show to discuss two modern classics, There Will Be Blood and Inglorious Basterds.

Episode 10: Inglorious BasterdsRelease Date: 2009In this episode, we discuss the ‘Glory' of the movie ‘Inglorious Basterds'.This is a 2009 alt-history war film written and directed by Quentin Tarantino. It stars Brad Pitt, Christoph Waltz, Michael Fassbender, Eli Roth, Diane Kruger, Daniel Brühl, Til Schweiger and Mélanie Laurent.Inglourious Basterds is a firm favorite with both the hosts and Christopher Waltz's Hans Landa remains one of their favorite villains. Waltz's Handa has gone down in movie history as one of the most iconic characters, sweeping all the acting awards that year. Tune into the episode, where the hosts tell you why this movie is rewatchable even after so many years and cannot stop mentioning Waltz/Handa every 5 minutes of the episode - because every favorite scene and dialogue is incomplete without Waltz's reference. Synopsis: In Nazi-oc cupied France during World War II, a plan to assassinate Nazi leaders by a group of Jewish U.S. soldiers known as the Inglorious Basterds led by Lieutenant Aldo Raine played by Brad Pitt coincides with theatre owner Shosanna Dreyfus's vengeful plans for the same. Melanie Laurent plays Shossana who had witnessed the slaughter of her family by Colonel Hans Landa played by Christoph Waltz. As the relentless executioners advance and the conspiring young girl's plans are set in motion, their paths will cross for a fateful evening that will shake the very annals of history.Favourite Scenes: Opening Scene - Waltz sends a chill down your spine. Hands down one of the best opening scenes in movie historyStrudel scene : Waltz meets Shosanna. This scene gave rise to many theories - Did Handa recognize Shosanna or not? Handa's multilingual skills stun the Basterds. The massacre at the Tavern - Rookie mistake Mr Fassbender!Trivia: https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Trivia/InglouriousBasterdsMusic from #Uppbeat (free for Creators!): https://uppbeat.io/t/hey-pluto/the-paradeLicense code: MIE1N7HAVI6KJOSGContact Us:Email: thetalkingtalkies@gmail.com Twitter: @_talkingtalkiesInstagram @_talkingtalkiesBenny (@RealBennyMan) / TwitterMi (@Mi_Rambles) / TwitterPlease leave us a review or rating on the podcast app!

This week's episode of the Empire Podcast is one of those jam-packed, bumper-sized affairs. Largely because we have three incredible directors guesting on the show. First up is Mike Rianda, whose animated marvel The Mitchells Vs The Machines, is one of our favourite movies of the year thus far. He talks to Chris Hewitt and Ben Travis about his experiences making the movie, providing a few voices along the way, and even reveals that he listens to the pod. We're so sorry, Mike. Then, Chris has a chat with the French filmmaker Alexandre Aja about his new sci-fi thriller, Oxygen, a high-concept flick in which Melanie Laurent wakes up in a futuristic pod with no memory of how she got there. And last but not least, Chris has a slightly spoilerific chat with Sound Of Metal's brilliant director, Darius Marder, ahead of that film's release into UK cinemas next week. This is also a preview of their spoiler special interview, which will soon be available to subscribers. Then, in the virtual podbooth, Chris is joined by Helen O'Hara and James Dyer for a fun episode in which they discuss the week's movie news, from an unrecognisable Leonardo DiCaprio to the latest casting news for Knives Out 2; review Oxygen, Those Who Wish Me Dead, and Fried Barry; and in a listener question inspired by The Mitchells Vs The Machines, discuss which directors would become giant faces on their own personal Mount Rushmore. Enjoy.

On our very first episode of the podcast we chose the topic of one of our favourite directors Quentin Tarantino films. Warning will be talking SPOILERS.Boaz's pick is Pulp Fiction 1994. Directed and written by Quentin Tarantino. Cinematography by Andrzej Sekula. The film stars Samuel L Jackson, Uma Thurman, John Travolta, Bruce Willis and Ving Rhames. The lives of two mob hitmen, a boxer, a gangster and his wife, and a pair of diner bandits intertwine in four tales of violence and redemption. This film is one Boaz's favourite films of all time. Boaz attempts one of Sam Jacksons iconic speeches. "Say what again!" Martins pick is Inglorious Basterds 2009, directed and written by Quentin Tarantino. Cinematography by Robert Richardson. The film stars Brad Pitt, Melanie Laurent, Christoph Waltz, Michael Fassbender, Diane Kruger and Daniel Bruhl. In Nazi-occupied France during World War II, a plan to assassinate Nazi leaders by a group of Jewish U.S. soldiers coincides with a theatre owner's vengeful plans for the same. When we discuss Inglorious Basterds we may have a slight obsession with Christoph Waltz. We hope you enjoy our first episode. Here are the social links for updates on future pods. Temp (II) Esta noche volvemos a salir. "The closer you look, the less you'll see." The magicians reiterated this magic sentence in director Louis Leterrier's caper thriller, "Now You See Me." The magicians' audiences are warned of the performers' prowess, but still miss the critical movement every time. So is the same with Chinese moviegoers in front of the big screen. While the director tries desperately to convince audiences that magic shows are important because they make people happy, the majority of Chinese audiences are preoccupied with the logic of the story and its many loopholes. Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Isla Fisher and Dave Franco play four street magicians summoned by an anonymous person to prepare and perform a series of special magic shows. These involve robbing a bank, cheating a billionaire sponsor of all his fortune and removing all cash from a heavily guarded safe company. Morgan Freeman is an ex-magician who now seeks to expose their tricks. Mark Ruffalo and Melanie Laurent represent the authorities who are hot on their tails. Two of the "Four Horsemen," Jesse Eisenberg and Woody Harrelson, are able to leave an impression with their on-screen performances; the rest are mostly obliterated by the running storyline. Still, viewers are allowed to feast their eyes on spectacular magic shows, one after another. However, if you examine the story more closely, the second half of the movie is not as compelling as one would imagine based on its grand opening. While the magicians are being pursued by police, when they do get the time to perform, the shows are accomplished under menacing circumstances and the viewers can hardly enjoy the glamour of the illusion like they did in the opening scene. It just seems the director has shifted his hitherto pious attention on the magic tricks to the prolonged chase, which leads to nowhere. Despite the incoherent focus, the script by Ed Solomon, Boaz Yakin and Edward Ricourt still shows great promise. The secret of each show is revealed right after the presentation, yet the audience is still intrigued, with anticipation for more. Meanwhile, they are keeping their eyes sharp and exercising their brains, hoping to uncover how the characters pull off each trick. Compared to other movies currently available in Chinese cinemas, "Now You See Me" is much more attractive and its audience much more willing to engage. On a scale from one to ten, "Now You See Me" deserves a six.
