Why? Well, because it was an out of state bank. Anyway, uh- they were working as busboys in a hotel, and uh-uh Josh was sitting, drinking his coffee, and he was so beautiful, and they say hi to him. That's how they met. What's the interesting part? Well the interesting part is that after their first recording, Josh paid for dinner. Media Referenced in this Episode: The Room. James Franco visits Google to discuss writing, directing, producing and starring in his film "The Disaster Artist.” The movie is based on Greg Sestero's best-selling tell-all book about the making of Tommy Wiseau's cult-classic disasterpiece The Room, often referred to as “The Greatest Bad Movie Ever Made”. In the film, Tommy Wiseau and Greg Sestero become friends after meeting each other in an acting class in San Francisco. Hoping to achieve Hollywood stardom, Sestero moves to Los Angeles and signs on to appear in Wiseau's project. Financed with his own money, Wiseau writes, directs and stars in "The Room," a critically maligned movie that becomes a cult classic. The film also stars Dave Franco, Seth Rogen and Zac Efron. The BAMPIRE Interview Bit of a change this episode; Lee and Adam chat with filmmakers Zoe Wassman and Malachite Saaquya about their movie “Bampire”, which they are in the process of crowdfunding. Bampire is a 90s-set horror comedy, introducing a brand new element to vampire lore - vampires who morph into deer! It has a cast including genre stalwart Diane Franklin, “The Room”'s Greg Sestero and the legendary “Lloyd Kaufman”; animation from Josh Stifter; visual effects by the award winning Trysta Kelley; and Taylor Morden in the director's chair. Having completed filming, the guys are now looking to raise the funds required for post production. As you will hear, Zoe and Malakhai's passion and love for this project is infectious, they really want to get this out there, and from what we've seen of the amazing footage they have, so do we!Have a listen, and go to bampiremovie.com which will take you straight to their Indiegogo page, there you'll see a teaser and find out exactly what you can do to help this movie get out there, and pick up some lovely merch too! Plot sinkholes, disappearing characters, bizarre dialogue, wooden performances - all features of the 2003 film The Room. Described by one reviewer as "like getting stabbed in the head," the $6 million film earned a grand total of $1,800 at the box office when it first opened. Despite it's disastrous debut the independent film starring and written, produced, and directed by mysterious misfit Tommy Wiseau has gone on to cult status and continues to play to sell-out crowds. Screenings are often raucous with audiences throwing American footballs around and hurling plastic spoons at the screen. Greg Sestero played Mark in the film and co-wrote The Disaster Artist, a memoir about the experience of making the film, which became a 2018 movie starring and directed by James Franco. He's in New Zealand for a screening and Q&A at Wellington's Roxy cinema.
We just saw the new movie from writer-director-star Tommy Wiseau (The Room), so we had to throw our schedule out the window to talk about the romance of Big Shark! Join in as we discuss our experience being in a room with Wiseau, his growth as a filmmaker, his dubious claims about its production, and various plans for exploding pigs. Plus: What happened to Greg Sestero? Did the music in the movie have planned notation? Are any of the firemen characters being paid? And, most importantly, did they ever use the treasure map? The Room is a 2003 American independent romantic drama film starring, written, directed, produced, and executive produced by Tommy Wiseau, who co-stars with Juliette Danielle and Greg Sestero. Set in San Francisco, the film is centered around a melodramatic love triangle between amiable banker Johnny (Wiseau), his deceptive fiancée Lisa (Danielle) and his conflicted best friend Mark (Sestero). A significant portion of the film is dedicated to a series of unrelated subplots, most of which involve at least one supporting character and are left unresolved due to the film's inconsistent narrative structure. The work was reportedly intended to be semi-autobiographical in nature; according to Wiseau, the title alludes to the potential of a room to be the site of both good and bad events. The stage play from which the film is derived was so-called due to its events taking place entirely in a single room.
SIDE HUSTLE 6: JAMES FRANCO: WE KNOW HE IS CANCELLED, STOP TEXTING US ABOUT IT We live in an era where men are being held accountable for being awful (not nearly enough of them but it's a start). This is a good thing. Most of these men are older, however, and in the creative sphere most are past their Best By date. So it is unusual to have someone like James Franco, literally at the apex of his skills both as actor and director, undone by his own destructive impulses. It offers a fascinating "what if" to a career that will more than likely never be now. As actor we begin with PINEAPPLE EXPRESS (2008), the first mainstream feature directed by David Gordon Green (we talked about his brilliant "Joe" during our Cage Uncaged season, still worth a watch!) and featuring a near-future murderers row of comedic actors. Like most films written by Seth Rogen and longtime co-writer Evan Goldberg, Express eventually boils down to a story about male friendship. This time between Rogen and Franco's sweet, open-hearted stoner Saul. It is a classic performance in a classic stoner comedy.Franco has directed a lot in a short time and our "side hustle" film of his is THE DISASTER ARTIST (2017) detailing the, uh, male friendship between real life Tommy Wiseau and Greg Sestero. No, this was not written by Rogen and Goldberg. Instead we have a true life story about the man behind one of the best worst movies ever made, The Room, who spends a lot of time, money and effort in order to not have to say "I love you" to his best bud (who is played by Franco's own brother, not-cancelled Mr. Allison Brie, Dave). Both a singular performance that strives to go beyond imitation and directing makes this the most Franco of movies. It shouldn't work but does. An amazing career most likely cut short in mainstream cinema with no one else to blame but himself. Maybe he can play himself in the eventual film version. Ken and Thomas are joined by Leigh to sort it all out. Filmmaker and author Greg Sestero joins me for this episode of Salt Lake Dirt. Greg wrote The Disaster Artist which is about his friendship with Tommy Wiseau and their experience making the cult classic film The Room. The book is one of the best film memoirs out there in my opinion. And of course, The Room speaks for itself. There is a reason why after 20 years the film resonates with a worldwide audience. Greg will make his first Salt Lake City appearance on Saturday May 27, 2023. The Salt Lake Film Society will host a 35mm screening of The Room and a Q & A with Greg as well as some other fun surprises. You can grab tickets at SLFSTIX.com. Great book, great film, great guy. Pippa and KJ are joined once more by Ryan Trumpler, this time to discuss James Franco's The Disaster Artist, based on Greg Sestero's memoir of the same name about the making of The Room. This is an episode that started out silly, but turned into a deeper discussion of bad behavior from directors and whether that behavior is tolerable for the sake of art. (Spoiler: it's not.)
We chat with special guest Greg Sestero (The Room, The Disaster Artist) about his upcoming appearance at The Strand in Delaware, OH. Thanks to Yellow Paper Planes for our theme song "Stare To Hold" Purchase tickets for the event here!
Joining Sarah for this special interview episode is actor, writer, director, producer, AND best-selling author, Greg Sestero! You may know him best from the 2003 cult classic "The Room," but Greg has been involved in a lot of cool projects since then — including writing his memoir, "The Disaster Artist" which was adapted into the 2017 Oscar-nominated and Golden Globe-winning movie. We talk about horror influences, the longevity of practical effects over CGI, plus his upcoming sci-fi/horror movie, "Forbidden Sky." You can follow Greg on Twitter/Instagram: @GregSestero And we'll be adding the link for the "Forbidden Sky" Kickstarter when it is live!
The show took a week off but comes back firing on all cylinders. This week, we have a very special guest. Greg Sestero, writer of the best-selling book "The Disaster Artist", co-star of the Best Bad Film ever made "The Room" and writer-director-actor in a new creepy horror film, "Miracle Valley", joins The Bucktooth Gremlins for a nearly 2 hour conversation about Greg's career, famous faces and some of the best bad movies we have seen. By the end of the episode, will Greg really get his answers on Eric, Julia & Emma Roberts??
As this celebration train continues, we make a stop over in Wiseau World. We watched The Room, we're the experts, Mark! How will the Room hold up? Host: Nic Panel: Candace, Lauren, Nur, Daniel. Read the Disaster Artist Directed by Tommy Wiseau Starring: Tommy Wiseau, Juliette Danielle, Greg Sestero, Philip Haldiman
We're very fortunate to have two experts this week joining us to discuss The Room. First off, we have Steve Heisler from The AV Club who has made it his journalistic duty to learn everything he can about this disaster. Also joining us is Mark (Oh, hi Mark!), aka Greg Sestero who also worked behind-the-scenes as a producer. Tuxedo football, outdoor green screens, unnecessary double casting, Mark knows how it all came to be and he's here to share it all with us. Enjoy! The time has come to review a piece of cinema for our 150th episode that is hailed as being one of the worst movies ever made - and we try tackle that statement with special guests Nathan and Ty from the Midnight Screening podcast! We discuss the Wiseua phenomenon, Nathan's connection to Greg Sestero, the Disaster Artist (book and movie) and most importantly, what Sophie made of this as her first viewing experience! But even more importantly, this is Sophie's first attempt at editing the podcast, so you can wonder if she had as much fun watching as she did editing it... In this episode Andrew chats with writer, director, actor Greg Sestero about his latest film, Miracle Valley, which is screening around Australia from today - February 15 - with Q&A screenings taking place around the country. Naturally, when Greg is in town, screenings of The Room take place too, and Greg will be on hand to chat with audiences about his work on those two films. But Greg's more than just a guy who's received fame from The Room. He's also starred in films like The Christmas Tapes, which Perth local Rob Livings co-directed. Greg talks about Miracle Valley, twenty years of The Room and what the title 'the worst film of all time' means to him. This interview was recorded in Northbridge so there is some atmospheric sound, and you'll have to excuse the mic dropping midway through, the wind knocked it over. The interview starts with Andrew, naturally, talking about Mac and Me, another 'worst film of all time'. If you're in Perth, head along to catch Miracle Valley and The Room at Luna Leederville on February 15 and 16.. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Join me as we say “What a story, Mark!”, definitely have the cancer, and keep our stupid comments in our pocket, all while discussing the “Citizen Kane of bad movies” - ‘The Room' with the help of the legendary Joey from So Wizard Podcast. You can (and should) find Joey and his awesome podcast on Twitter at @SoWizardPodcast or on their website http://www.sowizardpodcast.com/ The Room is a 2003 American drama film written, produced, executive produced and directed by Tommy Wiseau, who stars in the film alongside Juliette Danielle and Greg Sestero. The film centers on a melodramatic love triangle between amiable banker Johnny (Wiseau), his deceptive fiancée Lisa (Danielle) and his conflicted best friend Mark (Sestero). We Watched A Thing is supported by Dendy Cinemas Canberra.
