Aubrie Howell and Kathleen Rawlinson
The Christian and the Atheist podcast is a captivating and thought-provoking show that brings together two individuals with opposing beliefs to engage in deep discussions on spirituality, religion, and life. With a combination of intellect, wit, and respect for each other's perspectives, the hosts create an environment where listeners can explore the vast spectrum of belief systems.
One of the best aspects of The Christian and the Atheist podcast is the honesty and vulnerability displayed by both hosts. Aubrie and Kathleen are not afraid to delve deep into complex topics such as death, sex, and spiritual doubt. They share personal stories that are incredibly real and emotional, allowing listeners to connect with their experiences on a profound level. The passion they bring to each conversation is palpable, making it impossible to not be drawn into their discussions.
Another great aspect of this podcast is its ability to address topics that are often oversimplified or completely avoided by religious leaders. The hosts tackle complex issues head-on, challenging traditional beliefs and offering fresh perspectives. This refreshing approach allows listeners to expand their understanding of spirituality and encourages them to question their own beliefs in a safe space.
While there are numerous strengths to The Christian and the Atheist podcast, one potential drawback is the limited range of perspectives presented. As the title suggests, the show primarily focuses on conversations between someone who identifies as Christian and someone who identifies as atheist. While these dialogues offer valuable insights from both ends of the belief spectrum, it would be beneficial to incorporate interviews or discussions with individuals from different religious backgrounds or philosophical viewpoints for a more comprehensive exploration.
In conclusion, The Christian and the Atheist podcast offers an incredibly unique listening experience for those interested in delving deep into matters of spirituality. The hosts' genuine passion combined with their willingness to explore controversial topics creates an engaging atmosphere throughout every episode. Though it may benefit from incorporating additional perspectives, overall this show provides intellectually stimulating conversations that leave listeners eager for more.

Aubrie and Kathleen sit down with Rabbi Jasper and have a very relaxed conversation about the similarities and differences of Christianity and Judaism. We get to touch on what Judaism says about LGBTQ+ and how they combat antisemitism. This is a great episode that we enjoyed getting to create for our listeners. This episode is jam packed with so many things we couldn't put it all in the title. Kathleen's wild experience at a pizza place where everyone was high as a kite is one we laughed way too hard at. Aubrie has an interesting interaction at a Jehovah Witness funeral with some of the church goers as well as having a run in with some past church friends at a kid's birthday party. She also took her first non-evangelical communion. We also talk about the tough decision Aubrie and her husband had to make when they walked away from sponsoring kids in a Christian mission project. Seth has authored five books, including his latest offering, “Christianity Made Me Talk Like an Idiot.” He also hosts a second podcast, "True Stories with Seth Andrews." With a mix of humor and heart, Seth Andrews has spoken for audiences large and small in the U.S, Canada, Europe, and Australia about his former faith, the promotion of science and skepticism, the importance of Humanism in this often crazy world, and why we should all pursue a personal relationship with reality. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/thechristianandathiest/support
Ok, you know when you hear about something and the person who is telling it is trustworthy and wouldn't lie about what they are talking about but the thing they are talking about is so wacky you have to pull in another source who knows just as much about it to confirm the insanity you just heard? That is what this episode is! Kathleen's husband sits in the room with us to help give insight to the topic of Mormon tithing and the breaking headline. You don't get to hear his voice but he's like an advisor throughout the episode. It's super interesting for those of us that don't know much about Mormonism to hear how the LDS do tithing and how they have handled the tithing. We hope you find today's episode informative. If you are part of the LDS and find yourself defensive when people talk against the Mormon Church then we encourage you to listen but if that's too much for you feel free to check out our other episodes. We mean well and don't want to cause harsh feelings to be stirred up. Next week we will be posting another Book Club with the words largest Atheist Podcast host, Seth Andrews. He was an absolute joy to have on the show and we are so excited to finally drop the episode. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/thechristianandathiest/support
Welcome to the second episode in our Book Club series! A few months ago, we sat down with Marla Taviano, the author of a wonderful book of poetry called Unbelieve. We learn about her upbringing as an evangelical Christian, her deconversion process, and what she believes now, all through the lense of a series of incredibly touching and sometimes hilarious poems. Marla Taviano is into books, love, justice, globes, anti-racism, blue, gray, rainbows, and poems. She reads and writes for a living, wears her heart on her t-shirts, and is on a mission/quest/journey to live wholefarted (not a typo). She's the author of unbelieve: poems on the journey to becoming a heretic and jaded: a poetic reckoning with white evangelical christian indoctrination, and lives in South Carolina with her four freaking awesome kids. Find out more at marlataviano.com. To purchase Unbelieve, along with the next book in Marla's series, visit her on Amazon at https://www.amazon.com/stores/Marla-Taviano/author/B001IQX7OG?ref=ap_rdr&store_ref=ap_rdr&isDramIntegrated=true&shoppingPortalEnabled=true --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/thechristianandathiest/support
This episode, as Kathleen points out, is a little unhinged. We start with how fun it was to find out Rihanna is pregnant via the halftime show. Then, Aubrie brings up a topic that is giving her anxiety and she wonders if Kathleen ever finds herself feeling similar or if she deals with things differently. Finally, we go into the rabbit hole of how Mormons view afterlife. It's full of information and opinions from an ex-Mormon so if you find yourself particularly sensitive to hearing potentially negative things pointed towards the Mormon belief system then we advise you to skip the topic. We will be going into Book Club: Unbelieve by Marla Taviono so if you want to read the book of poems in preparation of next week's episode you can find it on Amazon or you can get a signed copy from Marla herself, just look her up on Facebook and shoot her a message. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/thechristianandathiest/support
