In this episode of the Watchung Booksellers Podcast, children's book author/illustrators Kristine Lombardi and Cat Min talk about their process and love of kids' literature.Kristine A. Lombardi has written and illustrated several books for children, including Lovey Bunny, Mr. Biddles, My Wish for the World and The Grumpy Pets, which garnered an International Literacy Association Children's Choice Selection. She loves quirky characters and tender stories written with lots of heart. Her next book "Crouton" is coming from Random House in 2026! She lives and works in Montclair, New Jersey. Cat Min is a Korean American author-illustrator, animator, and twin mom. Cat grew up in Hong Kong, where she spent most of her childhood drawing and making comic books out of printer paper and staples with her best friend. She studied animation and film at NYU Tisch and went on to complete the Illustration & Visual Storytelling Summer Residency Program at the School of Visual Arts in New York. She is also a member of SCBWI, Women Who Draw, and the Society of Illustrators in New York. Her debut picture book, Shy Willow, was featured in the NYT twice and translated to many different languages. Welcome to episode number 81 of the Wedding Songs Podcast. I am Matt Campbell and today I am going to be talking about songs you can play for a combined parent-child dance. Now, this could be the father-daughter / mother-son dance combined into one song. You may not want to have a lovey-dovey song that is particular to a father-daughter or for a mother-son. This is more generic and could be played for either dance. If you prefer to read the list, or listen to the list you can do so on our website MyWeddingSongs.com. Just search for combined dances. Make sure you check that out. I am not going to go thru every song on the list but I am going to go thru these in chronological order starting with the newest song first. Let's go ahead and get started with the first song titled “On Me” by Thomas Rhett, Kane Brown, and Ava Max. This was featured in the Scooby Doo soundtrack of 2020. It is really a great song that describes a relationship where you can rely on another person, particularly a parent. If you have never heard this song, the lyrics include…And if you want to, tell me what you gon' do, You could put it all, put it all on me, You can count on me, one, two, three. One of the most popular parent-child dance songs at weddings is “Forever Young”. A lot of artists have covered this and if you are a Folk fan, in 2019 Andrea von Kampen released this song. It is a great Folk song with the lyrics…Forever young, I want to be forever young. Next up, in 2018, Luke Bryan released “Most People Are Good” with the lyrics…I believe this world ain't half as bad as it looks, I believe most people are good. Another more generic song is “Humble And Kind” by Tim McGraw in 2016, with the lyrics…When the work you put in is realized, Let yourself feel the pride but, Always stay humble and kind. In 2007 the lead singer of Matchbox 20, Rob Thomas, released “Little Wonders” for the Meet the Robinson's soundtrack. Lyrics include…Our lives are made, In these small hours, These little wonders. Also released in 2007 is a collaboration with Jim Brickman featuring Lady A on the song “Never Alone”. Lyrics include…So when hard times have found you and your fears surround you, Wrap my love around you, you're never alone. Another very popular parent-child dance song at weddings is “My Wish” by Rascal Flatts with the lyrics…My wish, for you, is that this life becomes all that you want it to, Your dreams stay big, your worries stay small. If you are looking for a Christian song then in 2005 Mark Harris released “Find Your Wings” with the lyrics…I pray that God would fill your heart with dreams, And that faith gives you the courage, To dare to do great things. In 2003 Josh Groban released “You Raise Me Up” as a popular selection. In 2000 Lee Ann Womack released “I Hope You Dance” with the lyrics…Promise me that you'll give faith a fighting chance, And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance, I hope you dance. Of course “Sweet Child O'Mine” by Guns & Roses is a popular father-daughter dance song,

We're baaaack! What a great break we had to enjoy our families this summer and to get into the swing of things with school. We have a great episode with fun topics like the book of Revelations and how Kathleen completely forgot there's a freaking dragon in it! Aubrie has made some great friends that happen to be Christian but have a few differing beliefs than her. It's been interesting that she's having to do the same work of being ok with the differing viewpoints much like how she deals with Kathleen's differing viewpoints. We discuss the song My Wish by Rascal Flatts and how maybe having everything handed to you can cause entitlement. The song Stand by Your Man by Tammy Wynette came on the radio the other day and Aubrie was shook by how troubling it was. Enjoy that wild ride of what it brings up. I cancelled my debit card, unlinked my debit card from Wish, deleted my Wish account, and deleted the app from my phone. Next, I changed my Gmail password and changed my security settings. Finally, I scrubbed my Gmail and discovered the hackers were overseas. Due to the terrible global social experiment called COVID-19., surveillance will increase. Big Brother is watching. One night after dinner, a teacher began checking her students’ homework while her husband was strolling around the house, playing his favourite game on his phone. On reading the last note, she began crying while silent tears rolled down her cheeks. Her husband saw this and asked, “Why are you crying, my dear? What happened?” The wife replied, “Yesterday at school, I gave my 1st-grade students a task to write something on the topic ‘My Wish’.” “Okay, but why are you crying?” The wife woefully replied, “Listen to what one of my students wrote: My wish is to become a smartphone. My parents love smartphones very much. They care about it so much that sometimes they forget to care about me. When my father gets home from work, he says he’s tired but he always has time for his phone. Not for me. If my parents are doing some important work but the phone rings, it gets answered within a single ring. But they never pay attention to me, even if I am crying. They play games on their phones, not with me. When they are talking to someone on their phone, they won’t stop to listen to me. Even if I am trying to say something important. That’s why my wish is to become a smartphone.” After listening to the note, the husband got emotional and asked the wife, “Who wrote this?”. She replied, “Our son”. -- Gadgets are beneficial, but their purpose is to bring us ease, not to cease the bonds of love we have with our family and loved ones. Children can observe and understand everything that happens to them & around them. These things get imprinted on their minds with an everlasting effect. Let’s take the care that’s required to ensure that they grow up with the right impression.
