She's a research associate turned journalist living with several chronic illnesses and an invisible disability. Her main health condition is called Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, a rare connective tissue disorder that leads to many co-morbid conditions. She's had around a dozen diagnoses, including dysautonomia, mast cell activation, small fiber neuropathy, a rare bleeding disorder called factor VII deficiency and much more. We absolutely loved hearing from other spoonies out there and we got INTO IT with Karina today. We chatted about her experience with multiple chronic illnesses, we ranted about hustle culture and how it's negatively affected the chronically ill for many years. When was the last time you thought of Godliness? What kinds of thoughts come to mind when you think of that word? Religion? Accusations? Dogma? If you grew up irreligious, this is a word that is distant and completely disconnected from your vocabulary. It probably sounds like it belongs in a different era. But Godliness is closer to us than we think.  In this message, pastor JD shares why godliness should matter, who it is for, and how to develop it.  We hope this podcast blesses you and helps you live better.

Have you ever had that one special dog?  Who took you down new paths and started a journey that would change you forever?  For author Daniel Schulof that was his Rottweiler Kody, and that journey started innocently enough with trying to find a way to exercise away some of his energy.  Instead of finding a fun new ball game, Daniel finds out that Kody may be part of a silent epidemic affecting millions of "healthy" dogs.  Hear about this life-changing discovery and the life-altering adventure that begins as a result.   This is part one of a two-part episode exploring the information-packed book Dogs, Dogfood and Dogma.  This book definitely needs to be part of every dog lover's library.Buy Dogs, Dogfood and Dogma on AmazonKetoNaturalPetFoods  Check out more episodes at www.doghappi.comThank you for being here.Stay Happi!

Details, credits, errata: This week Alissa and I watched Dogma, Kevin Smith’s goodhearted, filthy movie about theology and goofy stoners, a film that is very easy to watch but very hard to see! Alissa notes that there’s a YouTube upload and an Internet Archive version, neither of which seem terribly legit but since there’s no way to stream the movie or buy it from the distributor, we do not recommend watching a bootleg version but we also do not have an alternative.Sam mentioned Terry Schiavo, and Alissa mentioned the You’re Wrong About episode on her, which can be heard here. Our theme song is Louis Armstrong and His Hot 5’s Muskrat Ramble, made freely available by the Boston Public Library and audio engineering shop George Blood, LP through the Internet Archive. Dogma is copyright 1999 Miramax. Rob Go of NextView Ventures joins Nick to discuss Reflections From 10 Years at NextView, Dogma vs Discipline, the Importance of Effective Post Money, and Market Sizing Pitfalls. In this episode we cover: Is VC fundamentally changing under our feet? What are other biggest industry shifts that have changed the way you operate at Next View? Most LPs are focused on their fund managers' ownership percentage at entry. Explain what effective post-money at exit is and why that has become a north star from next view? Takeaway #3: There is a Goldilocks zone between too much dogma and lack of discipline. Can you give us an example or two of strategies that were difficult to let go of or move on from? Your favorite saying internally is “anything worth doing is worth doing fast”. Yet this is a pretty long cycle business and it takes time for a portfolio to mature and drive returns. What were the key learnings with regards to returns and metrics? How do you know if you're winning if the metrics are a bit of a red herring?  Are there any alternative metrics or signals you look for to quantitatively gauge performance? You cited the biggest observable misses for most VC's and it's related to market size -- what's been your observation here and where are investors missing? You suggest that founders and investors should make each other a bit uncomfortable. Why? Does this ever prevent you from winning deals? What's your opinion on competition after a decade of investing? How do you think about the competitive set of investors and how to maintain and edge in sourcing and winning the best deals? Do you have any advice for founders w/regards to fundraising?
