Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints have received special undergarments as part of their temple endowment ceremonies since the days of Jospeh Smith. But what are these garments? How do they fit and feel? How have they changed with fashion trends over the years? And how do Latter-day Saints perceive and experience these garments as an embodied practice of their religion?Researchers Nancy Ross and Jessica Finnigan sit down with host Nicholas Shrum to discuss these and many other questions from their brand-new book (co-authored with Larissa Kanno Kindred) Mormon Garments: Sacred and Secret (University of Illinois Press). Having surveyed thousands of Latter-day Saints, Ross and Finnigan discuss their findings on the gendered difference in garment wearing, the ways in which garments make Mormonism feel embodied, the social costs of wearing — or not wearing — garments, the complexities of researching such a taboo topic, and the impact of these garments on the individual Latter-day Saints' relationship to the Church and God.Nancy Ross is an associate professor and the department chair of the Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences Department at Utah Tech University. She was also a 2024 Clyde Research Fellow in Mormonism and Gender in the UVA Mormon Studies Prince Collection.Jessica Finnigan is the founder of Fractional Project Manager and a seasoned researcher and data analyst. She has been researching and writing about Mormonism — particularly the experience of Mormon women — for over a decade.
Welcome to the weekly MormonNewsRoundup where Al & Dives ruminate on the great and spacious Beehive!
Today on The Mormon News Roundup, I'm doing something different.Instead of reacting to breaking news or the latest institutional scandal, I walk through the current temple recommend interview questions of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints—and I answer them honestly, exactly as they are asked today. If you don't answer these questions “correctly,” you don't enter the temple. No temple, no ordinances. No ordinances, no highest degree of heaven. These questions are framed as measures of worthiness, spirituality, and moral fitness—but embedded in them are deep assumptions about authority, obedience, guilt, sexuality, money, epistemology, and even thought itself.I spent decades answering these questions the “right” way. My livelihood once depended on it.Today, I answer them truthfully. This episode is not about mockery or personal grievance. It's about examining whether these questions are coherent, ethical, evidence-based, or psychologically healthy. If truth matters, these questions deserve scrutiny—not automatic assent. We go through all 18 temple recommend questions, covering topics like:Faith vs. evidenceTestimony and emotional epistemologyProphetic authoritySexual shame and thought crimeTithing and institutional deceptionHonesty, obedience, and worthinessYou don't need a recommend to be ethical. You don't need priesthood keys to be decent. You don't need secret rituals to be worthy. If you find this episode helpful, uncomfortable, or clarifying—good. That's what honest inquiry does.☕ Yes, I drink coffee.
Jeff Durbin -Acts 17:1-17- This week will mark my personal 30-year anniversary of going to minister the Gospel at the Mormon Temple in Mesa. During that time, I have had the privilege of giving the biblical Gospel to millions of Latter-day Saints, face-to-face, and through the platform that the Lord has given. God has blessed the proclamation of His Truth and countless Mormons have come to a saving trust in the true Christ. We live in Arizona and have quite a diverse local mission field. However, a large portion of the community that surrounds us are Mormons. These people are lost and are following a false Christ, a version of Jesus that does not exist and has no ability to save. My passion is to reach them with the Gospel, the only one that truly saves. I believe that love for the lost will cause us to cast of indifference for the state of their souls. I believe that a genuine love for Mormons will lead to boldness and an effort to reach them in whatever way the Lord grants us opportunity. I hope to encourage you, today. I want to encourage you with the Scriptures and with stories of His faithfulness. As I always say, "God blesses faithfulness." I hope and pray that God would bless us as a faithful church that will reach this large community around us, leading to the end of Mormonism and so many Mormons coming to know the One Who gives everlasting life.

Why are Latter-day Saints so eager to build temples, and are "temple works" really a New Testament practice? In these Viewpoint shows, MRM's Eric Johnson and Bill McKeever explore the doctrine behind LDS temples. Mormonism's practice of temple building has no basis in either the New Testament or early Christian history, making LDS temple worship a uniquely Mormon doctrine.

Go To https://rumble.com/user/MormonRenegade for free video & access to exclusive content. On this installment of the Temple Series we are going to be discussing perhaps one the most controversial and for sure the most misunderstood portion of the original Mormon Temple ceremony and that is the Oath of Vengeance. With portrayals of Mormonism such as Under The Banner of Heaven and American Primeval this part of the Temple Ceremony makes a lot of Mormons squeamish. The truth is however we don't need to feel that way. Today I have Ben Shaffer on the podcast as we discuss this portion of the Mormon Temple experience in depth. We talk about what the Oath really is, how it has been misused, how it became taboo, how it helps us become a more civilized people, and also how it actually helps us focus on relieving the suffering of the oppressed.

Cameron Call has a Bachelor Science Degree in Exercise Science from Brigham Young University in Provo Utah ,and a Doctor Degree in Chiropractic (DC) in 2015 from Parker University in Dallas, Texas . Cameron grew up as the “perfect Mormon boy“. He served as a missionary in Nashville, Tennessee, did high-level work with the bishop in the church , was married to his wife in the Mormon Temple in Mesa Arizona. He had so much shame and so much internal homophobia of being a gay man. Cameron produced three beautiful children .He also is an excellent pianist started playing when he was seven years old . Even though he loves to play the piano, he continued to use this as one of the ways to hide himself authentically. What makes Cameron story so incredible is his internal homophobia which went on for years and his denial of his authentic self and the tremendous shame he had to overcome by using courage. You will see the tremendous amount of courage that Cameron displayed. You will also be impressed with the peace he has with being his authentic self. Another thing that's incredible in this story it has a happy ending and you'll have to listen to the podcast find out what that happy ending is . .

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (LDS or Mormon Church), has long been known for their secret temple rituals that only the worthy saints can participate in. In Part Two of their conversation, Paul Cardall and Peter Breinholt delve into the world of Mormon music and LDS culture. A multi-million dollar industry, Mormon music is relatively unknown. As the Church expanded its membership beyond Utah's borders, so did the audience for recording artists who are members of the LDS Church or create music with Mormon themes. Both Paul and Peter have their roots in Mormonism, which adds depth and insight to this episode, particularly for those unfamiliar with mainstream Mormonism or the LDS Church. With all the mystery that shrouds the Mormon temple, I do my best to lay it all out on the table. After an (albeit chaotic) rundown of what goes on inside, we talk through your stories, experiences, thoughts and feelings. I laugh, I cry and I process a good amount of religious trauma along the way. Hey, what else is Girlscamp for? --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/hayley-rawle/support
On this episode of Mormonish, we sit down with our two new friends from a concerned citizen's group in Heber, UT, to find out more about their goal, to have the new LDS temple relocated to a more appropriate site. As you watch the episode, you certainly won't miss the parallels to the situation with the Cody, WY Temple. As background info, a new temple for Heber Valley, UT was announced at General Conference in October 2021. The site was revealed on September 19th, 2022 and a ground breaking ceremony with President Russell M. Nelson was held on October 8th, just a few weeks later. The temple will be 88,000 square feet with an elevation of 5,712.72 feet, by far the largest building anywhere in the area. Three times taller than the existing tabernacle in Heber, for comparison. While many of us were lamenting the effect a large temple would have on the dark skies in this untouched area, most assumed that after the groundbreaking the temple had begun construction. This is not the case and a very active and organized group of citizens in the Heber Valley area are working hard to find a better solution and have the temple relocated to a more suitable area. As Mormonish learned from a site visit with the citizen's group, there are big concerns about the present site including dark skies, water table issues, height issues, location in the flight path to a local airport, and more. We learned a lot from our visit to the Heber Valley proposed temple site and we know you will too. If you'd like to learn more or help financially, here is their contact info. With a new year under the control of Revision Rusty M. Nailz we have a new Temple Endowment for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints! What's new? What's not new?! Why did they make the changes?!?! We dive deep into the new endowment with comparisons from older versions to see what's slipped through the cracks about the new Mormon ritual. After that we review a movie with another secret combination as its center, Angels and Demons, based on the Dan Brown novel.
