my mom gets so sad when she sees holes in my clothes. i have these favorite boots, and they both have holes in a spot where it makes sense for them to wear out with regular use but the rest of the shoe still works fine i think. but mom gets so bummed when she sees them. she’s like “what did i do to deserve this?” and “oh god, what did i do wrong?” even though i’m like a pretty okay person and do some cool things in this world, and my shoes have nothing to do with her. is this just a common mom reaction? or like, an immigrant parent thing?i did a lot of research the past couple months and got a nice new backpack because my backpack was also one of the items that made my mom sad. and yah, i agree that it was disgusting, but it still worked fine. but i showed my mom my new backpack tonight and she was so happy. i’ve been looking forward to showing it to her. and i’m going to try really hard to keep it nice, though often life happens so no guarantees. mom loved the backpack but told me i still better not wear the shoes with holes next time i see her hahaha.i’m 37 and i wonder about if/when any of this will change with age. like, at some point will i start caring about whether my clothes have holes in them? would it have happened already if it was going to? or, will my mom stop caring about whether my clothes have holes in them? generally i don’t understand how age works and what if i never have kids of my own? will i just be treated like a child forever? or, for those of you with kids, do your parents still infantilize you anyway? obviously all parent-child relationships look different, but i just don’t feel like i have any reference points.mom, i know you see these posts and i love you and i know that we share many of the same values. and i don’t want to ever make you sad. and i will try to remember to wear a costume if you need me to but i will also continue to challenge you because i think that, too, can mean love.DOWNLOAD/STREAM RECORDING00:00 (intro by omar)00:20 Fitness Womxn “easy” New Age Record02:36 Jacob Sachs-Mishalanie “Dance” Black Garden OST05:04 Soft Fangs “Joy Ride” Drawing Heaven from Memory08:02 James Aranda “Floating Down the River” Heavy Meadow11:06 Nightmom “So Hot (Live @ The Biko Garage)” Drain Diaries13:04 Ted Taforo “Computers” BETWEEN DREAMS15:23 ylayali “man in the box” today19:32 Mid-Air Thief “Gameun Deut” Crumbling24:35 Jason Anderson “Little Things” Winter Songs IV26:20 Good Doom “ongoing leisure revolution” Ongoing Leisure Revolution29:27 Yeehaw Junction “Silverado” Demo31:57 The Expos “Sweet” Flavor City33:42 Worm Cafe “walk out” fantasies / walk out36:29 Abronia “New Winds for the Warming Sands” The Whole of Each Eye42:31 Mooey Moobau “Two One-Legged Man” Powder, and All That Store-Bought Hair45:16 Treadles “Skin Crawls” And The Rocks And The Trees And The Empty Air Between47:27 Throwaway “Exotic Bird” WHAT?50:15 GEE TEE “Chromo-Zone” Chromo-Zone51:42 Nag “A freeze” Red Panda53:15 Anna Vo “Everlasting Glow” VO // I call upon the dead to rise SP57:13 nine of swords “daylight” you will never die58:55 Banafsh “MOTHER OF SIGHS” THE THREE MOTHERS61:09 Prism “Lust and Trouble” Demo63:47 L.U.S.T. “Dark Place” Life Under Systemic Terror66:12 Happy and You Know It “Days Roll By” Mechanism
In this episode (after a 35 minute rambling rant about West Texas Archaeology, the joy of holding 31,000 year old ground sloth shit, obscure Chihuahua Desert Sunflowers, and rich freaks, we talk with Dr. Eric Lopresti about sticky plants and the evolution and adaptive benefits of glandular-ass trichomes in plants, namely the genus Abronia (sand verbena) and the flower structure of the Bougainvillea Family, Nyctaginaceae.
Adam Trimmings is a UK zookeeper and breeder of rare and expensive forest dragons such as Boyd's forest dragon (Lophosaurus boydii) and the Indonesian forest dragon (Lophosaurus dilophus). He also breeds Abronia, green tree pythons and blue tree monitors! In this episode we dive into their peculiar care requirements and discuss thermoregulation vs thermoconforming. We also cover the troubles with breeding some niche and nerdy species within the UK reptile hobby and the challenges that brings. SHOW NOTES: https://www.animalsathomenetwork.com/3-adam-trimmings/

If this episode doesn't inspire you to do something great in herpetoculture, nothing will! Nick Gordon is the Founder of the Abronia Alliance. In this episode, Nick explains how the Abronia Alliance works, he gives us an overview of the genus Abronia and we also discuss the Reptile Preservation Party. We also briefly touch on Nick's next project, the Cloud Forest Alliance. This project will allow keepers like yourself to be directly involved with the preservation and conservation of any species you are passionate about! Personally, I think the structure Nick has built for Abronia Alliance is a perfect template for other keepers to follow in order to make a positive change for not only herpetoculture but the natural world as well. A criminally underrated state for rare plants and plant ecology, Wyoming has a number of rare taxa and bizarre habitats. In this episode we talk with a botanist who spent twenty years in the state documenting, inventorying and becoming acquainted with the flora in the high deserts and alpine plant communities. We speak specifically about the Yellowstone Abronia, Abronia ammophila; the Blowout Penstemon, Penstemon haydenii; and the Desert Yellowhead, Yermo xanthocephalus, as well as about conservation, climate change and Western Botany in general.
Tonight's episode is a little bit different. Although they are not amphibians, lizard species within the Abronia genus (commonly called Mexican Alligator Lizards) face many of the same concerns faced by Central American anurans when it comes to conservation and care. Nick Gordon represents the Abronia Alliance and he was kind enough to talk to me this evening. The Abronia Alliance is an organization that promotes the conservation of Abronia species, engages the public through outreach and works to establish sustainable captive populations.
We're back after a brief break from schedule issues and this episode we're joined by Nick Gordon of the Abronia Alliance to talk about this cool group of lizards! Like this episode? Want more? Often known as Mexican Alligator lizards, the members of the genus Abronia are a beautiful and charming lizard. They are arboreal with prehensile tails and giving live birth. Jason Wagner is hobbyist and conservationist that specializes in the Abronia alligator lizard. Jason joins me today to tell us about these amazing creatures.
