Hey everyone, The Brutalist - the acclaimed, now 10x OSCAR nominee film - has now released in theaters nationwide in the U.S. and in UK theaters this weekend. This film premiered over 4 months ago now so, typically, I wouldn't feel much inclination to review it, especially since this film is certainly making my top 10 movies of 2024 list, which releases next week on this very show. The timing of the release as well as the plethora of OSCAR nominations it just received compelled me to put out a review though. So, here we go. Is The Brutalist deserving of its 10 Academy Award nominations and all the insane hype since Venice? Find out in this review! The Brutalist:Directed by: Brady CorbetWritten by: Brady Corbet, Mona FastvoldProduced by: Nick Gordon, D.J. Hope you enjoy Nick's story!
The Minnesota Twins get one win against the visiting Tampa Bay Rays and they seem quite content with just the one, losing a series to one of the best teams in the Majors. Dan and Hoges discuss the myriad questions this team has surrounding its roster the rest of the way, including whether players like Nick Gordon, Brock Stewart, Byron Buxton and Chris Paddack will find their way on a potential playoff roster. They also look back at the decisions Rocco Baldelli made during the series and the handful of memorable moments from players like Royce Lewis (who else?), Willi Castro and Max Kepler, who continues to prove his doubters wrong. The listeners have nearly locked up a season victory in Puckett's Picks, but Dan is holding out just a little bit of hope and turns in a different direction heading into the four-game series in Chicago. The Twins are closing in on the Central division title, but Derek Falvey is not counting down the magic number yet. In dramatic fashion, the Minnesota Twins finished off a sweep of the Chicago White Sox, giving them three sweeps in their last five series. David and Dan look back at the dramatic finish to Game 3 as well as the exciting comeback in Game 2 and the thundering start to Game 1. They examine the play of Byron Buxton, the down series for Eddie Julien and the way pink eye impacted the way Rocco Baldelli was able to manage the series. They praise the play of Alex Kirilloff and the steady presence Carlos Correa has been the last couple of weeks, and they look forward to how this roster might change when Jorge Polanco and (eventually) Royce Lewis and Nick Gordon return. Gleeman and The Geek - An Unauthorized Minnesota Twins Podcast
Aaron and John talk about the Twins bringing back bad memories with Emilio Pagán imploding and injuries piling up, plus the latest on Royce Lewis, Nick Gordon, Jorge Polanco, Joey Gallo, and a running game finally kicking into gear.
Technically the Minnesota Twins lost two of three games to the Dodgers in Los Angeles this week, but neither David nor Dan are fully willing to admit it based on how the end of Game 1 went down, thanks to some bad umpiring. They discuss that as well as the Twins' bounce-back victory in Game 2 and a lackluster performance in Game 3. David returns and defends himself against the many attacks he feels he suffered from Dan and Hoges last episode while also trying to take the high road above the criticism. Dan praises the work of starter Bailey Ober, while David is forced to admit that he probably should have just taken Byron Buxton in Puckett's Picks for this series. They discuss the pending roster move to replace the injured Nick Gordon and wonder what the circumstances will be on June 1, when Royce Lewis is eligible to return from the 60-day IL. Michael Kopech carried a no-hitter into the 6th inning, Eloy Jimenez brought the lumber with him in the 7th, and Andrew Benintendi walked it off in the 10th to propel the Chicago White Sox to their first 2-game winning streak of the season Tuesday night. Kopech allowed just a sac fly and had to settle for the no-decision. Alexander Colome was called on in the 8th inning to protect a 2-1 lead after an Eloy Jimenez homer and promptly gave up the game-tying home run to Nick Gordon. The score remained there until Andrew Benintendi lined a walk-off single into left field in the 10th. Timestamps: 2:20 - Question from Jeff about his pricey Juan Soto. 7:20 - John has a keeper question regarding his Shohei Ohtani, Manny Machado, Pete Alonso, Andrés Giménez, and Zac Gallen. 15:56 - Tim's asking about his $3 Michael Massey. 21:54 - This question from Hayden involves tons of players! $40 Shane Bieber, $36 Bo Bichette, $24 Max Muncy, $19 Brandon Lowe, $10 Ryan McMahon, $9 James Karinchak, $9 Giovanny Gallegos, $8 Pete Fairbanks, $6 Eduardo Escobar, $4 Michael King, $3 John Schreiber, $3 Nick Gordon, $11 Jake Cronenworth. 36:35 - What do we do with Bryce Harper? David wants to know. 43:45 - ATLien and Thomas ask similar questions that essentially revolve around the idea of keeping players at their current value or even a few dollars more - does it ever make sense to do so? 48:55 - Eloy Jiménez… DH? OF? Vikabot is wondering if he is less injury-prone and more valuable if he is a DH. 52:50 - Pete (not that Pete) is wondering about some cuts: $5 José Quintana, $5 Blake Treinen, among others. 57:35 - Does the World Baseball Classic have any impact on MLB players' performance? Coowell is wondering. 1:01:05 - Joseph is stacked with high-upside, cheap players. He wants to know how he should proceed as his auction gets closer. The Minnesota Twins are coming off a disappointing finish in a 78-84 campaign that saw them finish third in the American League Central. Within that, there were numerous key injuries that hampered them down the stretch, including both Tyler Mahle (shoulder) and Jorge Polanco (knee). Even in such a sad finish, the Twins had multiple breakouts throughout the course of the season. Griffin Jax had a really nice year next to Jhoan Durán in the bullpen while José Miranda and Nick Gordon each thrived at the plate. Who are three Twins I like for the 2023 season? Let's dive in. Keep or Kut - Pete (@PeteBBaseball) and Chad (@chadyoung) take a look at players who might be available in your leagues - whether in free agency or through an off-season trade - that may be worth targeting as you prep for the 2023 season in your long-term leagues. Join Pitcher List Plus and get an ad-free website and access to the Pitcher List Discord community, while supporting the podcast. Timestamps: 6:50 - Pete is enamored with Nathaniel Lowe's elite second-half. 16:40 - David Villar is only 12.6% rostered on Ottoneu, but that isn't stopping Chad from targeting him in his leagues. 23:28 - How do we view Oneil Cruz while on one hand, his Brl% is over 15%! But, on the other, his K% is up near 38%. 30:27 - Nick Gordon has been swinging a hot bat and providing a lot of fantasy value despite an unspectacular success rate on the bases. 37:28 - The humidor in Oakland has Pete getting a little more interested in Seth Brown. 42:54 - Chad likes both Lane Thomas and Gavin Sheets, especially the former given that Tony La Russa might finally be out of town. 53:00 - Simply put: the hosts can't quit Blake Snell. 58:54 - Chad likes what he is seeing from young Arizona arms Drey Jameson and Ryne Nelson. 1:01:45 - Despite probably never becoming the closer, Pete still likes Alex Vesia. 1:03:34 - Pierce Johnson has returned and looked good.Get PL+ and join our Discord: https://pitcherlist.com/plus
