What do we learn about Christ in the Five Books of the Psalms? Does the order of Psalms actually matter? Rev. Dr. Adam Hensley, associate professor of exegetical theology at Concordia Seminary in St. Louis, joins Andy and Sarah to talk about the order of the Psalms and why that matters, the pictures of Christ in the Psalms, what we learn about Christ through these pictures, and how the Psalms shape his own teaching and devotional life. Dr. Hensley is a Keynote Speaker at the upcoming LCMS Institute On Liturgy, Preaching and Church Music, happening July 9-12 at Concordia University Nebraska in Seward, Nebraska. This morning marks the first of six revival services taking place this week. Our guest preacher, Dr. Adam Hensley, will explore the depths of sin present in the current culture using the book of Romans as a backdrop. Romans 1 paints a vivid picture of the depravity of mankind, revealing the reason for God's wrath abiding over the world. The only hope for redemption is found in the person and work of Jesus Christ.
Rev. Dr. Adam Hensley, associate professor of exegetical theology at Concordia Seminary in St. Louis, MO, joins host Rev. Timothy Appel to study Leviticus 1:1-17. Although the book of Leviticus is unfamiliar to many Christians today, it occupies a key place within the Holy Scriptures. The people of God are encamped at Mt. Sinai, and the LORD has taken up residence among them in the tabernacle. How can He dwell among them with His holiness without consuming them in their sin? Through the rites given in Leviticus, the LORD bridges that gap. The first seven chapters speak of voluntary offerings that the people can present before the LORD in order that they can receive His holiness as the gift that He intends. The sacrifice given in the first chapter is the burnt offering, which is burned entirely on the altar so that the pleasing aroma ascends before the LORD. Because He has declared it a pleasing aroma, the worshiping Israelite could be assured that the LORD is pleased with Him. This is fulfilled in Christ, whose sacrifice in our place has made us pleasing in the Father's sight. “The Holiness of God” is a series on Sharper Iron that goes through the book of Leviticus. Because God desired to dwell among His sinful people for their blessing rather than their destruction, He gave them the sacrifices and regulations of Leviticus to bestow His holiness upon them. In this way, the book of Leviticus points us to Christ who is our great High Priest who offered Himself as the perfect sacrifice to make us holy before God.
In this episode we continue with the second part of Brandon's interview with Adam Hensley on the Psalms. This time Adam answers Brandon's questions about praying with those those psalms that refer to the "righteous man," and what about the "mean" Psalms?
In this episode Brandon interviews Dr. Adam Hensley, assistant professor of Old Testament Studies and Hebrew at Australian Lutheran College in Adelaide Australia. They focus their conversation on Adam's expertise in the Psalms. They discuss what the psalms are, how they teach us to pray, how they are arranged, and much MUCH more. One quick note: Adam uses the word "Antitype" to refer to Jesus several times throughout this episode. This just means that Jesus is the fulfillment of a promise or prophecy foreshadowed or prefigured by someone or something in the Old Testament.

Adam Hensley is best known as the founder, owner, and operator of Garage Gym Lab, which he turned from a passion project and side hustle into a thriving business allowing him to make the leap and leave a successful commercial real estate career behind. Garage Gym Lab reviews gym equipment and produces some amazing content. It's a really great mix of useful and relevant info and pure entertainment. As a home gym owner, I've followed Adam for several years now and it's evident that his passion for the home gym life is heavily driven by not only having a convenient place to workout, but more importantly the opportunity it provides to presently lead his kids as a living example and raise them in a house where health and fitness is a priority. From the courage to quit his job and pursue his passion to his collection of barbells to the intention he gives to his family. Adam is a guy I respect in so many ways, but above it all he is an amazing man, husband, and father, which is why I am so excited to have him on the show.
